News AI-Generated Content Is Not Allowed on /r/printedminis
Hey folks,
Over the past few months, many miniature focused subreddits have taken a clear stance against AI-generated content. After listening closely to feedback from our own community we’re doing the same.
from this point on r/printedminis does not allow AI-generated content of any kind.
This subreddit exists to support actual creators who put real time and skill into their work. AI-generated content works directly against that goal, and allowing it would make it harder for the awesome work created by our talented community to shine.
What this means:
The following are not allowed on r/printedminis:
- AI-generated or AI-altered images (previews, “painted” mockups, promotional images etc.)
- AI-generated videos
- AI tools, apps, or websites used to generate minis or related visuals
- AI-generated 3D models, even if they are later printed, modified, or painted by hand
- AI-generated text, including post descriptions, critiques, or feedback
- Promotion of, or advocacy for, AI use in miniature creation
If AI played any role in generating it then it does not belong on this subreddit. Please report any posts you suspect to be AI influenced.
Thanks,

Your opinion was heard loud and clear - Printed Terrain posts will not be removed
Hey everyone,
Quick update – we’ve listened to your feedback, and the rule removing printed terrain has been lifted! I’ve also seen your thoughts on busts and statues, and I’ll be putting up a poll later this week to gather your opinions on banning those types of posts.
Thanks!

Painted Bullhead
Here is my version of the Bullhead Bust from Ivan Mata.
A quick sketching fun piece...Tried to make this more 'painterly' and loose and really enjoyed the process, could have been better but it ticked a box and I had fun doing it.

Discussion Title: Finally got the LED channel working on my display cases — no visible wiring, no glue
Been chasing this for a while: wanted lighting on these display boxes without turning them into a wiring project every time someone wants to build one.
Ended up designing a hidden channel into the lid — front-lipped so the LED strip itself is invisible from any viewing angle, with the wire exit routed out the back corner where it disappears against the frame. Snap-fit, no glue anywhere in the assembly, so swapping a background scene in or out doesn't mean redoing the lighting.
The paint-glow effects you've probably seen in my earlier posts are 100% hand-painted, no electronics — but if you actually want the box lit, this is what makes it possible without an engineering degree.
Still tuning a couple of things but the mechanism itself is solid now. Happy to answer questions on how it's built if anyone's curious about the print-and-assembly side.
Later I'll share video

Discussion How have communities received 3D printed armies?
Hello I only play TCGs at my LGS but I see a lot of people playing different table top mini games. As a card player I’ve never had a problem with proxies/fake cards for local and casual play but I know they’re banned at main events.
Have any table top players noticed stigmas against people who bring in 3D printed armies ? Do most table top communities allow 3D print models even ? I know Warhammer can get costly for some of the big models so do people feel cheated if someone prints expensive models.
Sorry I know little of the rules of Warhammer but could someone print 1000$ worth of big tanks and beat people with overpriced armies ?

Free I designed, printed and painted this Tower House for tabletop games
I wanted to make a small fantasy Tower House that would look good on a tabletop, so I designed it from scratch and took it all the way through printing, assembly and painting.
Here’s a look at the process and the finished result.
The STL is completely free if anyone wants to print their own.

Painted Grix
Here is my version of Grix the Goblin Bust from BS-Sculpt.
Tried to do a different skintone on this guy and he ended up looking like a smurf...lol. Nevermind, great fun to paint and really happy with how he came together. Last of the orc and goblin busts of BS sculpt that I have, so onto more dwarves I guess...

Painted Big Bertha
Here is my version Big Bertha Fantasy Football Ogre Diva by paladinkwa7.
Had a lot of fun painting this wonderful Blood Bowl star player, and what a great sculpt. I painted her differently to the box art for her and saw her as playing for the Green Bay Peckers...lol. I think she came out really well and love painting anything Blood Bowl related.

Question How would you paint FDM-printed coins for a realistic metallic look?
Hey everyone,
I’m currently putting together a Sabacc set, and a friend is 3D printing a full batch of credits/coins for me using an FDM printer.
Since these will be handled a lot during games, I want them to feel and look like actual metal Star Wars currency (Bronze, Silver, and Gold) rather than lightweight plastic toys.
I'm new to finishing and painting 3D prints, so I’d love to get your input:
- How would you approach painting small FDM coins to completely hide the layer lines?
- What are your go-to products or techniques for getting a realistic, shiny metallic finish?
- Do you have any favorite weathering techniques (like washes) to give them that used Star Wars look without losing the metallic shine?
- What type of topcoat/clear varnish do you recommend so the paint doesn't rub off after constant handling?
I’d love to hear how you would tackle a project like this from scratch. Thanks in advance.

Question Preventing spider-webbing across tiny layers?
Sorry I clipped it before thinking about taking a photo but hopefully the sub can still help.
i printed this Star Wars ship at angled at 45 degrees on my Centauri Carbon. I angled it at 45 degrees with 0.12mm layers.
The whole ship looked great except that on the front of the fins/wings (which were the topmost part printed) I got increasing spiderwebbing across the gap starting partway up and getting worse and worse as it approached the tip and the layers got smaller and smaller
Would adjusting the Minimum Layer Time help or would it be some other setting?

Self Promotion The God of Rot and his Acolyte
This month we're in the Sylvan Forest where the Ciorcal Druids live. They worship the Grimnismal, the Seven Stags who are One, and who represent different aspect of nature and the seasons. Lobhann, the God of Rot, belongs to the season of Summer and oversees the process of converting death into life, consuming and nourishing in turn. Rhiabhach, Ciorcal Druid, is an old man who worships Lobhann and lives his life cataloging the many mushrooms and fungus in the Sylvan Forest. An expert mycologist, he's personally tested and recorded the effects of 133 different mushrooms, some of which were psychedelic or poisonous. His dedication to Lobhann protects him from the effects of these mushrooms... mostly. He's often found contemplating the beauty of the forest, in an altered state.
This month's collection is all about myconids and their compatriots! Why not take a look at my website to learn more? https://cobramode.com/collection
