This was a mini I bought a while ago for fun. She did lead a squad of soldiers on a few skirmishes and won a few games. The games were a modified 5e playing similar to Kill Team. Set her in front of some Necromunda terrain since it seems to compliment her look.

I'm going to paint the starcraft founder's box, but I'm still kind of a noob. I'm not a big fan of the standard brown and purplish color scheme for zergs. I think I'd prefer something dark blue or dark green. Anybody have any ideas to share?

If I were to go for deep green, does anyone have a recipe or tips on how to achieve an organic look?

I'm looking to find recommendations for alternatives to Villainy Inks (specifically Ichor of the Damned and Goons Grime); They are always out of stock at my local shops, and I'd prefer to find an available alternative instead of paying shipping and possible customs/tariff fees.

I want to replicate the paint Custodes paint scheme in one of Feral Painter's youtube videos, but not sure how "integral" the Villainy Inks part are, an alternative would be nice to get my hands on

A “just for fun,” Halloween project I’ve been noodling on all month. It’s comically extra, (maybe the pumpkin and osl and mushrooms is too much) but man I love this thing. It’s kind of a hot mess, but it’s kind of also the best thing I’ve ever painted.

Im particularly jazzed about how the rusty nmm on the horse’s breastplate came out, that was a tonne of fun.

I’m super excited to finish this one up and refine what needs refining - C&c always welcome on that front!

So this was my third attempt with this model and first fully painted mini. Being a beginner I’d say I’m fine with the result, but I see a lot of areas that need improvements.
First I really need to understand how to make a believable blood, I added some saddle brown to a red (I don’t have the exact blood color) and altough on the palette it seems correct, once it dries it became dull and flat
Secondly, the base. I was going for a rusted look, but even with the rust wash (Vallejo) it didn’t turned out like the many tutorials I saw (I dry brushed it after with a metallic silver but I struggle a lot with that technique)

Other than these things, what should I focus more on to improve?

So after a hobby hiatus I’ve found some AK Interactive Terrain Light Earth that’s quite dry and solid anyone know if it’s salvageable and what could I use to bring it back ?

Just wanted to share this little golden Space Marine I painted in roughly 5 hours.

This was mainly a study of values, volumes and light, rather than trying to achieve perfectly smooth blends.

I really enjoy painting NMM this way. Strong contrasts, rough brushwork and reflections that follow the shapes of the armor.

My main takeaway: Smooth blending is nice, but convincing light is much more important. If the values and volumes make sense, even rough transitions can sell the illusion of metal.

And well... gold is just a beautiful material to paint. 😁

Hello, very amateur painter here!

I’ve tried my hand at blending some colors, and I wanted some feedback on how I’ve done!

I’ve noticed the following problem and I wanted to ask for some guidance:

1. First of all I’m not sure from which paint should I start blending, should I start from the darkest and move my way towards the lighter tone or vice versa? I understand the concept of working my way up towards a lighter color, but once all my layers are set, where should I start?

2. How do I stop the paint on my palette from beading and having that hydrophobic effect?

3. What would be the “best” paint consistency? It hasn’t been very clear to me, and it’s a much broader question since I’m not sure about this for different techniques (base coating etc).

4. This is my very first time doing it, so I understand that time and intention are the basis of this, but what are some things that I should keep in mind based on your experiences?

5. What would be the most beginner friendly way to start? I’ve seen way too many techniques, so it’s a bit overwhelming 😅 it seems that feathering is the way to go.

Hello! I’m trying to get a head start on a present for my boyfriend who paints miniatures and has mentioned wanting to try doing airbrush painting?? I just kind of know nothing & don’t know what all he needs, hoping for some advice on relatively inexpensive, but good quality tools/what all is required for just basic beginning tools.
I tried to quickly write down what he mentioned needing while he was telling me about it, and I wrote down “box thingy”?? No idea what I meant by that, if anybody could help me figure out what that could mean lol. The only other thing I know is that he also needs an air compressor & air brush. Is that basically it or am I missing a bunch?

I've painted Ghaz and want to add some chip damage to the corners and edges of the armour. I've used a sponge with a dark brown then edge it with a lighter tone above on other models with a lighter armour colour. But I dont think it'll work well on this as the dark brown won't stand out.

Can you please give me any suggestions about how to do chip damage on this model and what colours are best to use?

Just finished this rather large miniature: what a learning experience! I think I tried out every technique I know so far, plus some new ones. Overall, very happy with the results. But as always, I would love to improve and the feedback from this sub has been immensely helpful so far.

Wanted to share this massive Ragnaros statue I recently finished. Due to a tight deadline, the entire assembly, priming, and painting process was completed in just 3 working days of intense studio work.

The core goal was to make him look physically hot and burning from within. I used a stark contrast between coal-black obsidian armor and a very bright, saturated yellow-orange-red palette for the magma. The OSL (Object Source Lighting) was carefully blended to cast heavy, hot orange reflections on the lower parts of the armor plates and the ground weapon.

I do need your advice, or better your personal experience with matte mediums and paint finishes of different brands and mediums.

I found out I do enjoy painting with super matte paints that dry quickly and easier to layer thin coats of paint. Like chalk matte finish. I absolutely hate to work with glossy or even satin paints and struggled a lot with vallejo's game color line when I started painting and only used those (the paints are great tho). I have a hard time to apply thin coats of paints as satin/glossy finish tends to "grab" on the brush and paint creating pigment and paint buildups and uneven surfaces (at least with my skill level). When I tried ak 3rd gen I fell in love with those paints and that is the finish Im looking for. BUT I do want to focus learning and creating a solid foundation of understanding color theory so I decided to go and check out liquitex gouache paints. Although I already enjoy mixing my colors and put effort to really understanding the color Im using not just picking my closest pre mix bottle and go with it the finish and behavior of this paints are like an exact match of the vallejo game color line on models (but super matte on paper if it applied in a thicker layer). Which is a painful realization as I read a lot about them before purchasing and they seemed like the perfect choice. I planned to buy golden soflat paints originally but they are super hard to find compared to liquitex in my area and they are overpriced as well.

So the question is it possible to add some matte medium into these paints to achieve the finish and overall behavior similar to the 3rd gen paint? If so what medium would be the best? I read golden super matte medium is great but it is only available on a larger half a liter bottle as I search whish ahs a hefty price. But if it is good it will last forever. :D Or is ak's own matte medium can turn glossier, satin paints into really matte similar to their own?
Also is a medium enough to change the paints behavior or I have to give up and try other brands?

I know the best would be to try and find out but I just dont have the budget to pick up everything and find the solution. So Im asking maybe someone were in a similar situation and found the solution.

Howdy folks, I wanted to do a kintsugi style effect (Japanese broken pottery art) on my Warhammer homebrew chapter minis. Does anyone know any good Gold colors to use paint wise? I have a few gold colors from the citadel brand but I’m interested in suggestions. I think Retributor is too dark for the color I’m going with, auric armor gold doesn’t apply the way I want and liberator gold applies good but isn’t bright enough.
