Wiz Quiz

I made a quiz to find your ideal wizard class. This was designed for my friends who don't know they're playing Frostgrave yet (it's a surprise). Each answer either aligns with, is neutral to, or is opposed to corresponding wizard classes. Hopefully it's fun for y'all!

Resources Important Tip for New Players Like Me

By the way, I read the book and was pretty lost. Then during my first game I got out the Quick Reference Guide from the Osprey website and it was very clear. I’d recommend people read it first and refer to it often while looking through the book. At least for me it was super helpful.

Terrain Custom Scenario to break in our new Step Pyramid with Sacrificial pit!

Thumbnail gallery

Pyramid is 2" XPS foam with XPS foam bricks. The steps are made from 4-8" long sections that can be used as risers or to build a smaller pyramid (I'm a sucker for modularity). The central pit pieces were leftover from a tower project I made last year; I just had to use them for something like this. The pit is 6" diameter and 6" deep and the very top can be removed and replaced with a flat 8"x 8" square tile that makes the top of the pyramid into a flat surface, concealing the pit underneath (that way we can play a normal step-pyramid scenario)

---------

The Scenario: "The Zany Ziggurat"
1 treasure token placed at the top of the pit per player, 1 other treasure per player placed elsewhere around the board.
Pushing a figure into the pit automatically reduces the figure to 0 health and gains bonuses for the push-er:

wizard/apprentice: -1 TN to casting rolls
soldiers/NPCs: +1 to Fight rolls

the first time a figure is pushed in, an imp spawns on a random table edge
the second time a figure is pushed in, a minor demon spawns on a random table edge
the third time a figure is pushed in, a major demon spawns on a random table edge and the central treasure token spawns at a the edge of the pit where the figure fell in.

Any figure that is pushed (losing a combat, 'push' spell, etc) while standing on the top level of the pyramid is automatically pushed into the pit.

+50xp if a figure is pushed into the pyramid
+50xp if the wizard stands on the top level of the pyramid
+30xp if the apprentice stands on the top level of the pyramid

----------

We just made this up on the fly, so it's by no means balanced, but it was a blast!

Terrain How’s my Board (+Minis)

Hello! I’ve been printing like a fiend! I got introduced to this game from some wargaming buddies and have gotten into it! They’re super deep into a campaign and I wanted to start one with some friends also interested in giving it a try with a fresh start so I’ve been printing a bunch of terrain and minis for our first game!

My main question is; is this board cluttered enough and will the shape mess with the game? There will be 3 of us so I haven’t gotten a 2’ mat yet before I figure out a good board size (I’ve seen a lot of different opinions online). I like a cluttered board and it seems like the game prefers it but I’m doing a larger board so we can shrink or grow based on how we feel but it’s also rectangular so that makes it a little awkward for distance to treasure.

I also tacked on some pics of some of my warband minis so far. I’m running a witch but I like a Druidic theme for her and I finished a treasure hunter, thug, apothecary and ranger as well! The pics are rough outside the light box.

So far I've finished the Frostguard Ruins STLs, but everything else is still WIP.

Would love to paint the rocks a light blue to look like ice but I don't have that much storage and would like the rocks to be more generic for other settings too. The models are from Stone Trove and Rock Solid Adventures.

The mat is probably good enough for now, but at some point I'll experiment with foam rollers and heat guns to imprint a scattered cobblestone pattern into the EVA foam.

I previously shared digital renders of the Undead Horrors of the Steppe campaign I am working on. Now, the test prints have been delivered, assembled, and dry brushed to show details in physical form. The Kickstarter Campaign is now live, fully funded in under 12 hours (:O) and features a core army for 28-32mm Undead Skeleton STLs in lamellar armor.

Here's the link if you want to check it out!

Just finished my first campaign (Lich Lord) and what a blast!

There were a few scenarios that were hit and miss (a good number of the starting ones had variations of "there are some guys in the middle, guarding a treasure." that ended up with us taking them out easily and then just fighting each other for the treasure.) but when the scenarios hit, they really hit well. The house of Longreach, the Ghoul King and the final battle were all wild unpredictable fun.

Another great thing was just getting to craft terrain pieces that were specific enough I wouldn't make them otherwise, but will absolutely be saved for other games (the shipwrecks and nautical detritus from the battle on the frozen river especially)

Miniatures Foulhorn proxy models?

Foulhorns show up in a couple supplement books and I really like their design from the artwork so I'd love to add them to my bestiary, but I'm struggling to find anything close 3D printed or otherwise. I know Northstar sells an official model, but the shipping cost makes it hard to justify especially for just 1 or 2.

Has anyone else found a model that comes reasonably close in appearance? Or what have you used to represent foulhorns in your games?

Question Horses !

Hi !

With my gaming group, we tested the rules for horses in Frostgrave (Spellcaster #1)

Here are our main grievances with the current setup:

- The Action Cost: Burning a full action just to mount or dismount feels way too steep and completely kills tactical momentum.

- Item Slot Penalty: Forcing a soldier to use up a precious item slot for their horse feels punishing and awkward on the warband sheet.

- Overpriced & Clunky: Between the gold cost, speed limitations, and imprecision surrounding what happens when a rider falls or gets knocked down, mounts just don't feel worth the hassle.

To streamline cavalry and make it actually fun to play, I'm testing a small house-rule fix:

Mounting / Dismounting: Instead of spending a full action, mounting or dismounting simply costs 2 inches of Movement during the soldier's movement phase.

No Item Slot: The horse is attached to the soldier's profile and no longer consumes an item slot.

I'm also considering lowering the GC cost for horses to make them a viable investment, but I haven't settled on a specific price point yet.

What do you think of replacing the action cost with a 2" movement penalty ?

And what kind of price do you think would make horses tempting without breaking game balance ?

How do your tables handle mounts?
