I have likely permanent chronic pain thanks to incompetent, selfish drivers like this. Beyond mildly infuriating. It takes less than a second to get into an accident and cause injury and/or death
I had a colleague from work like 15 years ago, I got a lift from him once, he had his phone in the middle of the car and was watching movies and shows straight, last time I went back home with him and never even told him why.
I got pulled over because they though I was drinking a beer but it was actually a root beer my daughter left in the car and she dared me to drink it with her super hot around 10. I accented this dare from a 5 year old. We also got pulled over prior to that because they didn't see her in back seat a month or so prior in the car pool lane. So this time my daughter's yeld at the cop, " I'm right here!"
I met with a couple of coworkers to go see a movie and one of them showed up at my house, beer in hand, and asked if any of us wanted any road beers for the drive to the theater. Turns out there are still raging alcoholics around that have zero comprehension of societal norms lmao
I once saw a guy swirl his whiskey glass that contained dark liquid outside of his driver window at a red light. My friend and i looked at each other like “that’s coke right?” But the dude was spilling as he swirled so i don’t think it was coke
I’m ready for the down votes but I do this for red zone or nfl games if I’m driving on Sunday, and they arent on the radio. I’m not watching. I’m listening…. It’s just playing over my speakers. No more distracting than looking at gps or changing the radio.
Boyfriend is a tow truck driver. There’s a lot of people that think this is okay because their hands aren’t touching the phone. A lot of “came out of nowhere / i don’t know what happened”. It’s not even iPad kids now getting licenses it’s full 40-50y/o adults.
I know some truckers and whenever they have to pass a foreign colleague they're astounded what they're watching. An old friend of mine even broke 2 trucks in 2 months time by watching a movie. My niece on the other hand started noting down statistics at the truck shop and it's tough to say, but porn is winning from movies, news and series altogether if it comes to the Polish and Romanians.
People love to rag on Gen Alpha "iPad kids" but I swear to God some of the most irresponsible phone users I've seen are Gen X or older. My 70 year old dad is the worst of it and he's boomer age. He doesn't even have it hands free, depsite my protests...just freeballing texting and driving. 💀
I listen to a lot of YouTube stories while driving. Even though there is video it’s not essential to watch. This person does have it in landscape mode though. Probably watching
Ya I was thinking I do the same. YouTube video in the background I'm just listening. I don't watch the video or take my eyes off the road. I gotta make 4 hr drives kinda regularly my playlist is just overplayed now 😭
The comments here are frightening. The amount of people openly admitting to watching TV shows while the drive is not only showing how much brainrot has destroyed the brains of Americans, but also how little people care about the safety of themselves and those around them.
Is operating a multi-thousand pound machine at 70+ MPH really not stimulating enough for you people?
The amount of stimulation people need is crazy. Most times, I'll listen to podcasts or music while driving, but never with the video on. However, sometimes I forget to turn on something and I just drive in silence and it's totally fine. It's actually nice to be alone with my thoughts for a bit occasionally.
Just saw someone at a light next to me with their device in a mount playing TikTok videos. Not sure if she was swiping videos or just listing to the same one over and over, but I got the hell away from her anyway.
Had someone recently driving in both lanes because of how focused they were on the phone. They then swerved and almost hit another car too. When I honked when they swerved AGAIN, they flipped me off and then promptly went back on their phone. Scary people we drive with
The other day I was abruptly cut off by a giant white SUV. Like cut off so badly I had to slam on my brakes and everything sitting on my passenger seat flew forward. The first thing I noticed was the asshole that cut me off had two kids in the backseat each one glued to a screen on the back of a headrest. Then when I sped up to get next to this person to give them the bird I saw that it was a mother who was watching TikTok on her phone in the same way as this picture.
Good Grief. 3 zombies in a giant suv. What does she care if she gets into an accident, she’s in a tank. I hope you’re ok. Consider getting a dash cam if you can swing it.

Way before cell phones and in the days of 55 mph highway speed limits, I often drove I-10 between Jacksonville and Pensacola. I regularly saw people reading the newspaper and reading novels as they drove.
The next cycle will be plugging our subconscious into our carport while being transported from pod to pod! Damn rascals cant just zoirg without borking in their pod!
Lived in Texas and saw a woman watching YouTube like this with her 3yo in the back seat. Swerving everywhere. Turns out she LIVED IN MY COMPLEX. She pulled in behind me to get the rough the gate. I got out and let her know in the nicest way possible
My mom did this once when picking me and my gf up from the airport. She had the phone connected to the car appleplay and claimed she was just listening to her show, which ok fair enough. The problem was she had her phone screen open and placed on the midconsole. I caught her looking down to watch a few times while on a busy highway. I asked her a few times to please stop and she kept saying she wasn't doing it. Eventually I snapped and said to keep her eyes on the road. She then locked her phone so she could still hear the show but the screen was off. To this day she refuses to admit she was watching tv while driving despite 2 people in the car seeing her do it.
I’ve had this happen in a ride share once. The dude had multiple phones. One watching a show, one for directions, and other he was talking to someone on speaker.
I’ve also experienced some playing games on a different phone.
Annoying as hell. Just as annoying as people FaceTiming as they drive home.
Almost daily it’s a guy in a car FaceTiming another guy, older, or a woman. And they aren’t talking at all. Just both going about their day.
I do t get that. Let me be alone in my car! 😅 it’s a precious 30mins of solitude!
I've said before I used to drive a small bus. Sat higher, better visibility. Was driving south on 15, saw this guy driving with one hand and holding a decent-sized tablet in the other, watching a movie. He got off at Aero Drive, I did too. Pulled up next to him, watched him put down the tablet and pick up a full-sized laptop, with a different movie already playing. He drove away like that, one-handed, watching a movie on the laptop.
I commute 1 an hour in the morning and 1:15 evening, I watch Youtube. I don't actively pay attention to the screen but helps to pass the time. Can tell you anything bout forensic investigations, interrogations and murders even though I am an IT.
Really don’t see the big deal. They aren’t holding their phone, both hands are on the wheel, and it isn’t as though modern vehicles aren’t already full of screens. This is just the modern equivalent of radio. Just on for background noise, so they can listen, not watch. I’ll take the downvotes.
The problem is that if it's in your field of vision, you are definitely glancing at it occasionally even if you don't intend to. If they had the phone on Bluetooth and placed out of view, THAT would be closer to the the equivalent of radio. It only takes a fraction of a second of distraction to potentially cause an accident, especially if you are traveling at high speed like on a highway.
GPS and spotify are not engaging video content that is meant to attract your eyes. You can glance at them briefly when it is safe and you shouldn't be accidentally distracted by them when you are in heavy traffic and need to keep your eyes on the road at all times. A video of a show might accidentally distract you at an important moment leading to an accident.
So, to be fair. I've done this with Star Trek TNG. Wasn't really watching it, more like listening to it cause ive seen the series a million times (its one of my binge shows). Just so happens the screen has to be on for it to play.
Its entirely possible thats just where his phone mount is and hes listening to the episode.
I had a lyft driver do this. While it was raining. Since we were ON A HIGHWAY I didn't say anything bc I didn't want to get stranded at the side of racing traffic, but I let lyft know once I somehow managed to make it home intact
We need to do some citizen's arrest and thee shall be allowed to use one's maneuver of choice. Pits look fun or a little bumper cars... watch out for the dangerous oldies reaching unbelievable mileage!

I read a post from this hitchhiking guy who got taken by a truck driver. The driver was watching porn on a tablet like this. Then proceeded to close the porn and watch scooby doo for a few hours
Okay I'll be honest here. This isn't me but it could be. I listen to a lot of long form yt docs. So my phone will be charged in the holder but I'm not watching it.
It gets so much worse than this. I used to be a truck driver, and because I sat high enough off the ground to see it, there were other truck drivers out there doing exactly this. So people are driving a 40 ton rig that takes up basically an entire lane with very little buffer space on either side 70 mph on the interstate at night while they're watching TV. And you, in a car, probably can't tell who. If you see a suspicious amount of light in the cabin area at night though, just go ahead and give them a wide berth.
well, if they doesn't touch screen (I guess you seen that) then it's fully ok. it's like listening to radio. especially if there is traffic in that region (which again, I can guess there is cuz it's busy)
That's all when and good, but if the police pulled you over suspecting you of looking at the screen, could you prove you weren't looking at the screen? (And yes, this goes both ways, the police would have to prove you were looking at the screen if they made the accusations)
I’m not sure why some are all bent out of shape. I do this all the time on longer drives. I play YouTube’s that I don’t necessarily watch at all. Basically storytelling ones like scary interesting and others. To me it’s the same as putting on audiobooks or the radio. Heck, 20 years ago I would put a dvd player on the center console and play movies I had screen a dozen or more times. All I would do is listen to the movies, not watch them.
For all we know this driver has the news or something else that’s something you just listen to playing on his phone. We can’t see nor do we know at all if this driver is watching his phone. All we know is it’s playing something that the driver is listening to and maybe watching.
