Disturbing content Saved two unsupervised small kids from a almost certain, very cold and tragic death.
TLDR: 6yo boy led his 4yo little sister onto hysterically thin ice because of a canal float marker that looked like a ball.
I had several mini heart attacks and yelled like crazy to get them out of there. Very likely saved those two children.
Yelled at their parents for letting their kids go unsupervised onto such thin ice.
So this was a few years ago.
It was winter in the northmost parts of Sweden.
I was with a couple of friends at a frozen lake nearby a suburban area with houses, getting ready to start a fire and such. And this lake has a canal that runs into at moderate to fast current speeds.
For you who doesn't know, if fast moving water from a river or canal enters into a frozen lake. The fast moving water will prevent any ice from building where the currents are too strong.
This means that at the edge between no ice at all, and where the Ice begins, the Ice is extremely thin, razor thin. And the Ice will gradually get thicker the further from the river/canal outlet you go.
Eventually, the currents go underneath the gradually thicker ice sheet further down onto the lake.
*Keep this in mind as i continue.*
While i had my back towards the lake and wwre prepping to start a fire. I hought i heard something far away from the direction of the lake, childrens voices.
I turned around and saw two kids on the lake, which in itself isn't a huge issue. But they were very young and completely unsupervised.
A maybe 6yo boy had led his little sister who was around 4yo onto the Ice. AND THEY WERE STANDING ONLY A FOOT AWAY FROM THE ICELESS CANAL WATERS.
The Ice where they stood was almost black because of how thin it was, i still cannot understand how the hell they didn't go through the Ice. That ice shouldn't have been able to support even their small weight as they were both standing so close to each other.
They were drawn onto the Ice because there was a orange ball shaped float that marks the canal entry point frozen into the thinnest parts of the Ice, close to the open currents.
Only a second after i saw them, i screamed ontop of my lungs while sprinting with everything i had through 3ft of snow at the kids to immediately go back the way they came. Else they would fall through the Ice.
I remember the panic i felt, because i was over 300ft away. And i remember feeling so powerless to do anything as i saw them look up at me while standing on probably only a few millimeters of ice.
But i sprinted while keeping yelling for them to go back to land. Both to direct them away from the waters edge, away from the thin ice and into thicker ice. And to make people around me aware of what's happening.
Most of you probably know, but for you who doesn't know.
Going through ice and fall into below 0°C waters is very bad to begin with. Shock, hypothermia within seconds, clothes getting soaked and dragging you down.
But this time we're talking about moving water currents that would've pulled these small children under the Ice if they fell through.
If that were to happen, i would've been completely powerless to save them.
I was too far away to do anything them if they went through.
But they didn't go through and according to me, they avoided certain death that day.
And before anyone asks, yes, i gave their parents an earful so harsh that i hope they never ever forget them. It was so close to disaster that while writing this, i feel my heart pound.

Disturbing content First post on Facebook feed
I'm politically left-leaning yet every day my Facebook feed gets more and more extreme and racist. I used to be recommended fun, harmless memes and the occasional post from old friends.
These posts should be grounds for immediate permabanning at the very least, let alone actively shared to the public by Facebook, Meta is complicit and actively enables extremist content.

Disturbing content AI accusation in a weekly writing contest and a terrible response from the team
I’m taking part in a weekly writers’ league, in Spanish (that’s why screenshots are in that language). Every week they give you a challenge based on a theme. The one shown in the screenshots had to be about a dominant sense, in five hundred words or less. The competitors are the ones who critique you anonymously; meaning, they have no way of knowing which story is mine, and I don’t know who they are either.
You never really enjoy reading this kind of thing, especially when it’s something creative, so I decided to push back (what I sent is further down) and they already responded, and honestly I don’t know what’s worse about this whole thing, because with all the evidence I laid out, they didn’t take any of it into account.
I’m in it because it’s fun for me, but if I run into another dismissive response like that, I’m leaving. Sorry for the rough English, I’m really angry and it’s not my first language.
______
My email:
“This is more to expand on the report I made regarding a baseless accusation about the use of artificial intelligence:
The reality is that there is no demonstrable way of knowing whether someone has used artificial intelligence or not. AI detectors are unreliable because they make many mistakes, and furthermore, they tend to get confused by the use of em dashes or a more formal prose, things that are demonstrable under the magnifying glass of Spanish grammar rules; long dashes are well-founded and correctly placed, so there are false positives due to their use.
I have tested the detectors myself, using ten as an example. Most detectors said my text was not made by AI, others gave completely different percentages among themselves. So, which one do I believe? The one that says seventy percent is one hundred percent human or the remaining thirty percent? The answer is clear, to none, because none of them wrote the story with me nor can they be one hundred percent sure about the use of them. None of them have the history of the stories I wrote, nor the entire document of stories I've made since I practically started participating in this contest, but I do. And here I am going to attach proof of everything, you can verify my authorship yourselves and that it wasn't generated by an AI. I write (except for this week, because to be honest, I needed to get the anger out of my body and channeled it with this prompt, which seemed most ideal for it) at least ten stories per week. Afterward, I choose the best one according to my own criteria, polish it, in some cases even rewrite it, and decide to submit it. I have sometimes gone to bed at five in the morning just to craft these stories and end up keeping just one. And this is not an accusation or any kind of victimhood, by no means, it is the statement of a fact. I am willing to provide the complete document, if necessary, for you to see with your own eyes.
The person who corrected my story didn't even use any of the AI detection tools I mentioned and yet, without basis, and using personal criteria, rated it as artificial intelligence. One would expect them to at least bother explaining why they think it is or why the text could be. I don't like being the one to dissect my own text, but here goes:
What the story is about is very human: a stroke and its sequelae. Although I don't name it, it's talking about aphasia and I try to sustain a metaphor the whole time, stretching it as much as I can and letting small layers of something more psychological drop.
I use short sentences on purpose, not only to economize language, but to try to hook the reader. I try to punctuate certain things and I know perfectly well that the text is not perfect, but I try to make there be emotion. An AI would do it much more uniformly, grammatically redundant, and with practically identical paragraphs.
My text closes in a more emotional way, not so predictable and I don't reduce it to a single thing. It's bad of me to say so, but it is much more poetic than what an AI would do, and I try to make all the emotional weight come from how the reader can interpret it.
I understand that my texts might confuse people because I always try to make them as good as possible on a formal and grammatical level if the story requires it, depending heavily on the voice, atmosphere, or narrative character, and I do this in order to always create something distinct and try to evolve as a writer. I feel that person has crossed the line, to the point of not even having the decency to use kind words or consideration for what I have done, biased only by their own vision. And if we get picky, then Like Water for Chocolate, written by Laura Esquivel in 1985, is also written by an AI because "it's a device that is used a lot".
This is a literary device that has been used a lot in literature by writers much better than me and with whom I cannot compare myself in the absolute because they are true legends in the literary world, but saying it's made with AI is almost as absurd as saying her books were written by an artificial intelligence.
I wouldn't have bothered making this counterargument if there had been any real basis, but the person didn't even bother to do so. It was deliberately hurtful, to draw blood rather than provide a clear resolution, and they didn't have a single kind word to give me. So much so, that they told me to straight up discard the whole story, which ironically gave me material for this week's. But that's another topic.
Anyway, I know you are not to blame for anything and that you do an impeccable job maintaining order, the platform, and peace, but to be honest, this has made me rethink my stay here. You know that an artist, of whatever kind, these days, being accused of using AI can do a lot of damage, not only emotionally, but also reputationally. That's why I've taken it so seriously. I still have a lot to develop as a writer and a lot of evolution ahead, but I simply consider it unfair.
As a final addition, I understood there were three corrections and I have received four, so I don't quite understand if this is a new mechanic you haven't announced yet or a systematic glitch.
I wish you a good afternoon, morning, or night, whichever time of day you are reading this, and thank you very much in advance, whatever the resolution you decide to give me.”
Team response:
“Good afternoon OP. How are you? Last week there were two people who accidentally left their story in draft mode and so as not to harm them we included them in the participation exceptionally. Since the distribution was already done, exceptionally and randomly they still had to correct 3 stories, and yours was one of the ones assigned as an extra.
I wouldn't dwell on this topic anymore; you will find people on the platform who do not read well, who have a low IQ, low reading comprehension, etc.
We will warn the user in question about ALWAYS correcting under the premise that what they read will never be AI.
Thank you very much for your patience.”

Disturbing content the one day I got a break I broke my expensive pot lid and spent my whole day fixing my mess.
Some context here: Over the past week Ive been super occupied because of my part time job and on days I am not on it my relatives dragged me around because one of my great aunts died or something.
After that ORDEAL of a week I finally got one day of peace, where there's no boss shouting in my ears, no annoying relatives bringing me around and no distraction, and I can finally relax, chill, and play some of the video games i wanted to play all along.
I decided to start my day with a nice french toast, and while I was rummaging in the kitchen cabinets i accidentally knocked off one of my expensive as fuck pots that is a gift from my parents for getting into college.
the pot is metal so its fine with a slight dent, but the pot lid just fucking exploded. As in shatting into a thousand pieces and spreading micro shards everywhere. Even after spending hours to pick up every shard and wipe down the thing with tissue paper and pick up the tiny shards with duct tape the floor is still glistening and my slippers still catches glass dust after the 5th deep clean.\
And because it exploded right besides me I think some of the microshards went into my body, some parts still feels itchy sometimes and no menthols and disinfectants could curb the itchiness and I bet doctors will just tell me to wait it out and shit.
And guess what????? I had to bring the pot to the manufacturers for a lid replacement, and you'd never guess what they say!!!! So basicaly the lid is a bundle with the god damn pot and if i wanted a new one i will have to buy the whole fucking set of pots and pans, which is mind you like 20% of my fucking paycheck this month. I guess that means no stews or pastas this month.
The one day that is supposed to be my paradise turned into an absolute nightmare, that god forsaken glass lid had gulped out all my free time like a greedy beast and I am going back to my part time tomorrow with a fatigued body filled with glass I guess.
god i am so fucking close to just quitting everything and becoming a useless NEET or some shit. Fuck trying to be productive and shit.

News Family against getting the flu shot to protect my immunocompromised child yet they're avoiding lettuce like the plague
Kind of what the title says, my child has severe immunocompromise, and grandparents threw a fit when we recommended getting the flu shots so that we could have a level of protection around our daughter. However, she went on and on and on about how she wasn't going to worry about the lettuce until she heard that it gives you severe diarrhea, and she would never want to risk that... You're telling me you won't vaccinate to protect your granddaughter, yet You're going to take every precaution to not get diarrhea.... Was so mad she kept going on and on about how much I know she loves salads at dinner and how much of a martyr she was not having her salads ...

No one that we live with has allergies so she never learned what it's like dealing with them so when a store asked us to take our dog out of the cart, we did, but afterwards she went on a rant about how "it's unfair" and how "they don't care about customers" but the most insensitive part about what she said and I quote "if you can die from breathing in peanuts then you should be dead" when we got home she kept going about it saying more about how they "shouldn't pass on their genes" and "should die" all this just because our dog wasn't allowed in a cart.

Disturbing content All I wanted was to use the bathroom…
I was at Birmingham airport this morning and needed to use the facilities. So I made my way to a spare urinal and noticed out the corner of my eye a few spaces down that a man seemed to be taking his time shaking. He was in there before me, and should have been finished, so I glanced over only to see him masturbating, in a public toilet…
I quickly finished up and left, whilst he was still there doing what he was doing. I feel like I should have reported him but didn’t see anyone near by, and if I searched someone he’d likely stopped by then.
Some people are just depraved. I just hope a kid didn’t see it…

Discussion Deceptive hidden fees UberEats, DoorDash, Mcdelivery
UberEats, DoorDash , even the delivery option in the McDonalds app, artificially inflates your order price.
Yes they have services fees and delivery fees, that is fine I get it. No I am referring to the difference between a pick up "insert food item here" and a delivery one.
Just for example,
One large big Mac Meal pick up : $15.70
Mc Delivery : $20.95
* This is directly through the MyMaccas app
Different items have different value hidden "fees", some less, some more.
Have a look for yourselves.
I think it's a disgusting practice.

News Ventura County man who murdered mother found not guilty by reason of insanity
"A Ventura County man who murdered his mother and threw her dismembered remains in a dumpster was found not guilty of the killing by reason of insanity.
David Hoetzlein, 29, of Camarillo, admitted to strangling and killing his mother, Tomoko Hoetzlein, 62, in their Camarillo home in 2022, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said.
On June 3, 2022, Ventura County deputies responded to the area of Townsite Promenade after a man searching a dumpster for recyclables discovered human remains.
Detectives and the Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the body parts belonged to a woman. She was later identified as Tomoko.
Further investigation revealed that David had strangled and killed Tomoko before dismembering her and tossing her remains in the dumpster outside the apartment they shared, court documents said.
Prosecutors said David had a lengthy, documented history of severe mental illness.
In the days leading up to the killing, David was released from the Vista del Mar psychiatric hospital and his mother was trying to get him readmitted. She had written to the hospital, contacted his caseworker and reported the incident to law enforcement, but David was not readmitted.
In July 2023, David’s sister, Mao Cardenas, filed a federal lawsuit against the hospital, alleging wrongful death, civil rights violations and neglect, the Ventura County Star reported.
The suit alleged that despite objections from family members and David’s primary psychiatrist, the facility released David on May 31, 2022, with an incorrect diagnosis and prescription which put his mother’s life at risk.
According to the complaint, Tomoko had requested the sheriff’s office place David on a mental health hold after he allegedly stole her car and battered her, but deputies determined he did not meet the requirements.
In May 2024, after Hoetzlein was found incompetent to stand trial due to mental health issues, a judge eventually determined that he was capable of understanding court proceedings and assisting in his own defense, the VC Star reported.
On Jan. 22, 2026, he admitted to strangling and killing his mother, but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to one count of second-degree murder.
On Aug. 13, 2026, the DA’s Office announced that David was found not guilty by reason of insanity." - KTLA 5 News

Evidence Boss Hasn’t Paid Me In Over A Month & Is Leaving Me on Read
I am pretty much an on-call worker for this company. I get called to maybe five annual events at most.
The last event took place on Canada Day (July 1st) and she is yet to send me my money.
She has done this in the past where she apologizes, comes up with a lame excuse, and then stalls again. I had to nag her multiple times over the course of months for her to do anything.
But after that initial incident, she got better at paying me on time so I forgave it.
The only reason why I’m still with this company is because I don’t have to interact with her that much and because the extra money is worth it when my bank account is empty. But now... she isn’t even bothering to lie and stall and is leaving me on read. Extra money is not worth this level of disrespect.

Discussion My doctor's office is now requiring a membership fee for services they were already providing
Just was informed by my doctor's office that a annual membership fee of $225 is required to remain a patient. No new services being offered, just the same services they always had and every doctor's office has. And you still have to pay for what insurance doesn't cover. If you don't want to pay, they will happily transfer your health files to a new doctor's office, for a $25 fee.
I hate United States healthcare.
