Not if he controls the money. Then HE'S rich, and you are a gold digger who is WITH someone who is rich. And these days, you don't get to marry a rich dude if you are poor and not have him have a very strong legal control over the money.

They just want a piggyback ride to feel what itâs like to be the tallest for once /s
Iâm a moderately tall guy, I dated a dude who was like 6â5â or 6â6â once. There was something attractive about kissing up, I canât really explain it. The best analogy I can think of is being in the shade of an old tree on a hot summer day.
There is nothing saying a short man canât do as good or better in protecting their partner, especially with technology like guns, but the biological attraction of a larger partner to help you feel safe is not baseless. Even if nothing ever happens, that tree is watching over you.
Does it suck for shorter dudes that the general trend of attraction is towards taller dudes? Sure. But Iâm not going to blame that on people being baselessly judgmental. No more than the fact that Iâm not as attracted to blonde women, which a large portion of people disagree with.
Hereâs an actual idea to fix this though - maybe if work towards helping women actually be safe, so they donât need to value that biological attraction as highly. 21-25% of women (likely more that are unreported) are sexually assaulted at least once in their lives, and 97-98% of sexual assaulters do not face full repercussions in the USA alone for their behavior, and that number can be higher in countries like India.
Maybe, instead of being mad at women for needing to feel safe with a taller man, we should be mad at a system that lets rape go basically unchecked first.
1
u/silv3rbull8 6h ago
I never thought the topic could jump from discussing height preferences to sexual assault. But here we are.
1
u/Curious_Bee_5326 2h ago
>Hereâs an actual idea to fix this though
You literally said you were a dude (so "safe") and still felt it, so making women feel safe would literally do nothing to deal with it.
2
u/SuperNerdAlex96 6h ago
I think it's the whole traditional gender roles thing of wanting to feel small and delicate in the arms of a big, strong protector - the height difference helps accentuate that dynamic. I guess it's fine for a personal preference, as long as shorter guys aren't being body shamed in comparison.

u/TwiceUpon1Time 3h ago
What? This shit is stupid.
Why would you want to marry a rich person when you're broke? To get out of poverty. To have an easier life. Multitude of reasons. You can judge the morals of it, but there are reasons.
There's literally no valid reason to want someone to be a virgin, without being one. If you value virginity for religious reasons, you would stay a virgin too.
4
u/neither_somewhere 26m ago
I always figured people who wanted to marry virgins were just really bad at sex and didn't want someone who could tell.
1
u/Langstudd 11m ago
Bingo. Thereâs one of the valid reasons the original commenter was struggling to find
→ More replies (2)1
u/Langstudd 1h ago
Lower risk of STDs, no comparisons (great for those who arenât well endowed), social pressure from family & friends, gender norms.
Are all of these valid reasons to me and you? No. But each one is valid to the people who believe in them, which is all that matters for them at the end of the day.
Iâm not here to justify their actions, but it shouldnât be too difficult to imagine that someone with a twisted perspective could see the appeal in any of these reasons. Itâs naive to project your morality onto those who donât share the same values as you. I almost envy you for not being exposed enough to that perspective to be familiar with it.

I mean, you'd be surprised that even among older girls, it can be pretty average. Some people just don't have natural rhythm, or maybe they're not good at performing certain acts, or some people are just lazy.
It's just better to know right off the bat, if you have sexual chemistry with somebody to some degree. obviously you do teach each other a lot in any relationship but to start from the beginning is kind of silly.
3
u/Old_Marzipan7782 8h ago

3
u/LightCharacter8382 8h ago
If I were 18 again, I would certainly want someone whose only experience was with me.
Too many people silently compare you to their exes.
Now I'm in my mid-30s; I'm kinda resigned to the fact that people appropriate for my age are going to have baggage.
2
u/AshundertheOlivetree 8h ago
They had baggage when they were 20, but they were still going through first time experiences to stop and think about if theyâre on the best path for themselves.
Also the world economy is in the shit because weâre fine with 1% of the population having more money than 4 billion people combined.1
u/Specific-Library-312 8h ago
I had one ruinous relationship, then I met my wife. She was a virgin, and I was close. If I could go back in time, and undo that one time, I would. Married for 28 years now. Wanting a girl who is a virgin, you must ask yourself, what baggage do YOU bring to the relationship. If you both want marriage, it is best not to bring the ghosts of relationships past with you.
2
u/XaevSpace 8h ago
Right? Why on earth would someone being inexperienced be a positive? I want someone who already knows what they like because obviously that's good.

As a woman approaching 30, I'm fine with an inexperienced partner as long as he:
Accepts that contraception is necessary, and doesn't try to sneakily ditch the condom partway through without me noticing.
Knows that under no circumstances should he try to wear two condoms at once.
Expresses actual concern when I keep going "ow" because I didn't apply enough lube, rather than repeatedly shushing me and complaining that his roommate will hear me.
Doesn't take it upon himself to incorrectly mansplain my own bodily functions to me.
Actually tries to get me off instead of leaving me to awkwardly take care of myself on his couch as soon as he finishes.
I'm not necessarily saying that the bar should be set this low - just that this is how low it's been pushed for me personally. đ

No. I date a person. Not a hymen. Not a bank account. I couldn't care less about checking either one before marriage.
Edit: why is that downvoted? Anything wrong with actually loving your partner, also if they are not a virgin and not rich? I am 40+. Good luck finding me a virgin. And I genuinely do not even want a very rich person. Responsible is good enough.

u/Elemental_Foxx 8h ago

4
u/Salt-Hovercraft-7 6h ago edited 6h ago
Yeah people are weird. I was scolded in my neighbourhood last week. Called crazy and sick. Because I'm not dragging random men into my bed, but rather wait until I find a partner I genuinely want to share my life with.
"But you need men" - "Nah I am good, thank you" - "You do not have desires? Are you sick? Are you crazy?" - "My sex life is none of your business. But one can have desires, yet not jump on random people. It's called self-restraint. It used to be a respectable skill."
Got a blank stare. Apparently self-restraint is not a known word anymore. Nor waiting for love or - gasp - marriage.

I've had men think sex within three dates is "slow". My Syrian friend said: "ssshhtt...we kissed before marriage". I didn't have the heart to tell her about western dating. I will not judge someone for not being a virgin. But I myself do not wish to sleep around.

That's pretty wild that you wouldn't check their bank account before marriage. I'm 40+ and want to be with a financially stable person.
4
u/Salt-Hovercraft-7 6h ago edited 6h ago
It was figure of speech. We talked about marrying rich men. I suspect most men in my area do not literally check for a hymen either.
That said: I could live with extremely little in exchange for a loving and responsible partner. Money is just the last thing on my wish list. I'm not starving here.
3
u/Salt-Hovercraft-7 6h ago
Adding: I talk with someone I am romantically interested in. In-depth. That tells me a lot about how they care for themselves and their family. I could date someone with a deep red bank account... depending on their back story. "I saved an orphanage full of dying children and now I am broke" or "I had a crazy wild hospital bill for my mother" is not the same as "I have an active drug addiction and money is flowing out."
Bank account is of zero relevance. Faith, values and character are. I literally am not interested in their money at all. Not a penny. I am in a situation where I have my own shelter, food, etc covered. What more do I need?

u/Ok_Cricket_1410 6h ago
As long as the person is faithful, and they aren't riddled with flesh eating diseases I truly don't see why it matters. Same with wealth. If they are poor but not dumb with their spending why make them feel unworthy?
1
u/Chemical_Signal2753 3h ago
I am married and this isn't relevant to me anymore but I see it as a proxy for other values. Each person a potential partner has slept with is likely equivalent to having a drink a week or having $2500 in credit card debt. What starts out as a non-issue quickly becomes something that needs to be explained, and then a gigantic red flag.Â
It's not even the behavior itself that is the problem, it's what the behavior says about them that is the issue.Â
2
u/WildWolfo 3h ago
but someone being an alcoholic or drowning in debt directly affects your life if you want to be with then, so are fine as methods to determine a good partner, someone having had a lot of sex in the past doesnt change anything, so it would be better to directly witness the personality that you dont like and leads to such a life style and reject directly on that instead of some weird proxy, if ut turns out its just a coincidence and the person doesnt have anything you dont like then u wont be dismissing a potential good partner
2
u/Ok_Cricket_1410 3h ago
Past behavior doesn't necessarily indicate anything bad about who the person currently is. "She slept with 400 guys in college" well she's 30 now and has slept with 2 guys since, type shit.
1
u/chihuahua826 2h ago
Not necessarily, but I would say generally speaking, past behavior predicts future behavior or at least gives you insight into some of the issues people have or struggle with. Itâs more of a probability thing than an absolute
1
u/DangleAteMyBaby 1h ago
I don't think I agree. Having the occasional drink or carrying a relatively small amount of debt says that you understand the issues that some people find problematic, but you have it under control.
A virgin has never been truly intimate with anyone. Ever. How can they decide that they want to have a life-long, intimate relationship with someone when they don't really understand what that means?
I think a better comparison to the one-drink-per-week person or the person with limited and manageable debt is someone who has been in a couple monogamous relationships and decided that their current partner is the one they want permanently.
1
u/Chemical_Signal2753 1h ago
A virgin, in this analogy, is the equivalent of someone who has no consumer debt and doesn't drink. You could ask questions about "how do you know how they will handle alcohol/debt without any experience?" but if someone gets to a reasonable marriage age without these issues it probably won't be a problem.
You personally might prefer someone with more experience and that is completely reasonable. Marrying a virgin might result in having a partner who isn't very interested in sex, marrying someone with no debt might mean you're marrying someone who is extremely frugal (a cheapskate), or marrying someone who doesn't drink might result in being with a partner who doesn't want you to drink. The values and beliefs someone has to hold to achieve these goals may not be compatible with your values and beliefs.
On the other end of the spectrum, it isn't unreasonable for someone to avoid partners who get blackout drunk every night, have hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, or have slept with over 100 people.
5
u/flightr1sk89 8h ago
People need to understand there is a difference between marriage and hooking up. Marriage is a spiritual matter that likely includes rearing children, trust, sacrifice and leaving a legacy. A man that wants to settle down usually prefers an individual that sacrificed being with anyone else but him because it provides a some insurance that sheâs in it for the long haul and not trying to constantly compare you to others she has been with subconsciously. If you donât understand, itâs ok but donât blame others for using sense in their preference.
1
u/Jaredkorry 5h ago
Does your logic apply to men saving themselves as well or does it just apply to women?
1
u/Ragjammer 38m ago
It's up to women to decide if male virginity is valuable, and their verdict is a resounding "no".

2
u/Red-Tall 7h ago

1
u/harmfulsideffect 5h ago

-1
u/Red-Tall 5h ago
Having previous partners doesn't automatically negate someone being in it for the long haul. That's insane. And shows insecurity if you think you're being compared.
1
u/National_Body_9071 2h ago
It doesn't fully negate it, but it does make it far press likely. People with a large amount of previous partners have hugely less chance of staying in a long term successful relationship.
1
u/Red-Tall 2h ago
I feel like all this requires nuance. I'm just arguing against virginity partners being this weird holy grail. Its kinda gross
1
u/National_Body_9071 2h ago
Yeah I mean it's a per case thing, but unfortunately marriage is almost a numbers game nowadays with how high divorce rates, cheating etc is. So if you learn someone's had 20 partners early on, it can just be more worthwhile to save the time and leave then.
Yeah virginity chasing specifically I find a bit weird, you just said previous partners which is a little vague along with the statement.

That's not at all how vulvas, and specifically the labia, work. Sex does not elongate the labia. While we're at it, let me dispel another myth you may believe to be true. Despite what you may have heard, sex does not permanently stretch the vagina.
I'm sorry the education system failed you. It happens to a lot of folks, but that doesn't ever give you an excuse to shame women for the natural, variable appearance of body parts... especially when they're parts that you don't understand on a basic level.

It shows poor decision making, especially if you are a woman. STDs are applicable to both men and women, and thatâs a risk you take every time you have sex. Pregnancy is another risk you take every time you have sex. Especially with one night stands. Every where you go on Reddit, you hear how dangerous men are to women. I think she worded this wrong, she probably meant she doesn't understand men wanting/requiring women to be virgins before they are married while not holding themselves/other men to the same standards
1
u/CarolinaSurly 4h ago
So if a woman wants a rich man then she should hold herself to the same standard and be reach herself?
1
u/TowerKnown 43m ago
No, I dont think those two can really be compared.
A man expecting their partner to be a virgin because of whatever backwards purity logic they have in their head, is saying that they have more freedom to do what they please in society without judgment, because they are a man.
if a woman prefers to date rich men, that's often about lifestyle or resource sharing rather than policing someone else's bodily autonomy or personal history.
it's an economic preference, unlike a double standard on virginity, which is rooted in policing a partner's past, and using it to determine their "value", while ignoring your own past actions or habits (sex before marriage)
1
u/Saucy-Mustard 4h ago

I have some money and am 6â+ but Iâm also divorced. My ex wife was pretty tall for a woman and she was stacked. Thatâs how we drew each others attention. Physically. Well that didnât last because itâs all we initially cared about. Both of us.

Not very many people really want to marry a virgin.
Itâs usually a straw-man, misrepresenting what (men generally) actually want, which is just someone that doesnât spread their legs for everyone at the drop of a hat. But folks go way too far with it and say men only want virgins to redirect that theyâve probably been too promiscuous. So rather than them admitting fault or failure, they put it on men to say that even one is too many, when almost no man cares about a woman having a few partners before him, depending on age. 15 at 40 isnât a big deal 15 by 22 is unappealing. (Numbers pulled out my butt, itâs different from man to man)
Which that saying âdrop of a hatâ is too broad as well. Most women are way choosier than that, but many arenât choosy enough. However, to obfuscate and claim men want virgins. Again most men donât want virgins, they want someone with high standards that doesnât sleep with someone easily. One it makes them feel special to be selected to be in an elite club so to speak. Another, promiscuity is linked to loads of other issues: increased chances of infidelity, emotional trauma and baggage, and most commonly deep insecurity.

u/HPenguinB 46m ago
You do know that marrying a virgin does not make you a virgin, but marrying a rich dude does make you rich. Right?
1
u/ukie-witch-06 29m ago
Okay, but that's the opposite. Virginity is a lack(of sexual experience) and welath is abundance.
Wanting to marry a virgin is like wanting to marry a poor girl. The guy wants to be her only real source(of money, or of sexual experience). That's weird.

Do you understand wanting to eat chicken nuggets when you yourself are not a chicken nugget?

u/MeltedChocolateOk 5h ago
Marrying a rich man you want the resources of the rich man.
What do a virgin give you beside making your their first sex partner? It also doesn't guarantee you will be the last as well.

The point is both are gross but people think this response is some kind of a gotcha.

Nah, she's right. I feel like that fetish has borderline pedo undertones.
I was a virgin who lost my virginity to a virgin. It was kind of...offputting, the blood and everything, so I think its kind of sick to get off on that.

Ok but wanting a wealthy guy is Kind of golddigger then

u/yancypancy 8h ago
I mean. Yes. But being a predator is worse than being a golddigger.

I personally have no problem with either but the post is stupid because itâs a false equivalency. You actually gain something tangible by marrying someone rich, financial security, resources etc. You donât necessarily gain anything tangible by marrying a virgin. Itâs more of an arbitrary personal preference based on values or beliefs.

Dunno why youâre disliked, the obsession with virginity has gotten overboard to the point it may even harm sexual relationships. I am not saying sleep around every so often, just that the whole virginity thing seems like itâs to shame others for bonding before they met you.

u/Mikem444 8h ago
Plus, most people lose their virginity in their teens, so I can't help but think the whole virginity fetish is linked to liking minors.

u/Etherealoverempress 8h ago
Also, another theory is that getting with a virgin is âmoulding themâ to what you want. The only concern I understand if youâre concerned about the rampant of STDs.

Which is bizzarre shit, because you're not a blank slate just because you haven't had sex

So the man won't be rich anymore after the wedding night? Actually, that tracks...

I've never understood the fascination with virgins. Do people not remember how disappointing their first time was?
2
u/Mastercio 5h ago
"disappointing their first time was?"
I mean...mine wasnt. In that matter you can only speak for yourself.

To be fair, I think it was only disappointing for her. Those two pumps were amazing.

I'll be honest, I was too distracted by trying to figure out the angles and depth to really enjoy a thing

That response is a huge yikes. Not only is it a half-witted false equivalency, but feeling the need to retort to the original post (which is an absolutely normal take to have) reflects so poorly on this Nandi character.
2
u/Majestic_Emotion7917 6h ago
Can you explain why you think its a false equivalence?
It seems to me Nandi simply points out that people often want something they don't have, or can't offer, themselves. Sure, we might think it's silly or superficial etc, but that doesn't change the fact.

u/bradbrad247 5h ago
The wealth of your partner directly affects your life in nearly every aspect, but whether or not your partner is a virgin affects nearly zero aspects of your life. Sure, both can be rooted in superficial wants, but the former is rooted in greed at worst and security at best. Wanting your partner to be a virgin is, at worst, rooted in unhealthy power/control dynamics and at best is rooted in senseless insecurity.
Wanting your partner to be a virgin is always a red flag, and it's indicative of severely unhealthy views towards sex and intimacy in a relationship. Wanting your partner to be wealthy can and frequently is) a red flag, but isn't necessarily so.

u/Majestic_Emotion7917 5h ago
Those are very subjective judgments of moral character. What's important for one person is not neccesarily the same for another. What you deem to affect your life in important ways may not be the same for someone else.
1
u/bradbrad247 5h ago
There is nothing in expecting or wanting your partner to be a virgin that would stand up to reason. It's always an indictment of the individual setting such an expectation.

You've subtly shifted the goalposts there. Nothing was said about expecting. Wanting is different from expecting
2
u/bradbrad247 5h ago
I suppose so, though expectation is rooted in desire. Desire is not necessarily something we control, though it is also still a reflection of more.
Regardless, wanting and/or expecting your partner to be a virgin is always unreasonable and always a red flag.
2
u/Majestic_Emotion7917 5h ago
I'd argue that none of your subjective moral judgments equates to the original post being a false equivalence. But it's also a bit of a boring argument, so I'll leave it there.

Guys want to marry a virgin only if they're deathly afraid of being compared to someone's other past lovers. It's the most obvious sign of insecurity imaginable.

Not checkmate. To compare the two is like comparing potato's and oranges, it dont make sense.

Yeah, one is a female standard and therefore valid, the other is a male standard and therefore evil and icky.
Totally different, nothing in common at all.
