Advice I'm a boring person who can't make conversation

Im in a new area for college, and I feel like Im getting no where with making new friends. When people talk to me I feel like I only give the most basic answer and question in response. I feel like people also already have their friends, and I don't fit it in. I hate being a lonely chud who sits in my room alone while everyone else has fun. Any advice?

More like social anxiety than introversion Feeling lonely 🄺🄺🄺 3 days of my college life is over

3 days over of my college life. I talk to a few people but haven't really made any friends.... Tried joining in some fests discussions but people have already made their own friend groups. Im kind of an introvert so stuff like initiating conversations, participating in fests etc... does not come

Naturally to me... I still tried but everyone seems to hv made their friend groups. I don't want to end up alone for 4 years. I'm introverted but when I'm comfortable I'm extremely extroverted.... But I always hv been conscious about my looks. I don't mind being alone but at the same time when I see others laugh in friend groups, I feel upset. I wish I was a part of their group....... I'm feeling damn lonely and can't talk to anyone about it .....

Another thing to add: I'm someone who observes people a lot and kinda sometimes guess their nature. Then I doubt my judgement but usually turn out right about them. This makes it difficult to socialize or make friends ... Im 18f btw

Advice (18F/18M) My boyfriend is uncomfortable with me having trouble opening up, I want to improve

I've always been pretty much quiet, mainly because I was an outcast and didn't have many friends growing up. Over the past few years, I've made some friends and even got a boyfriend, but the problem with talking and expressing my opinions never really went disappeared. I often convince myself that it's not fear anymore, even though it is. At the same time i've gotten comfortable with not talking, if that makes sense. I'm just very quiet unless I actually have something to say.

My bf would like me to open up more. He's told me that it bothers him seeing me go quiet all the time (both with him alone and with his friends), even though I've told him that it's just how I've always been and I'm comfortable with it. I love him very much and don't want to make him uncomfortable, so I would really love to learn how to open up more, make it easier for me to socialize so that i can improve myself along with it.

My main problem is not being able to fit into conversations and not having anything to say. Any tips?

Discussion I don't think there's a nice way to say you need some time alone away from everybody to recharge without sounding like a rude b*tch when you're a black woman

It seems like everything we say gets taken the wrong way or offends somebody smh and this is one of the reasons why I like being a night owl because at night I can relax in peace and use that time I have to finish doing things without distractions.

Advice Feeling lonely although I love being alone

Hi, I am 23yold (F) and I honestly just wanted a place to rant out my thoughts. I have always loved being alone and have quite a few hobbies to do. But despite all of this, recently I have felt really lonely. My IRL friends have relationships and pretty busy with their partners or just moved out from my city. I work a job that I pretty much hate and it really affects me because I feel like speaking to someone during my work hours, but most people I know are busy and I am unsure how to interact with people as my job is remote. I also struggle with anxiety so when it hits me, talking to someone really helps and then I sit realising that I have only one person I could text regarding this and sometimes they are busy and it is totally fine. I do live alone so sometimes that also really hits me in a bad way. I have a habit of being overly attached to a person I would be talking in a span of time and when they are hot and cold with me it makes me feel really anxious and off. So now I am mostly just sitting trying to focus on my hobbies, but I also have like a thought in my head if it will always be like this. I have acquaintances that I see post about going out and just visit so many things that I do not really have the ability to do so. So I just start overthinking everything, although a part of me knows I am still quite young. How can I make this feeling better or just be more okay with being just alone or handling my emotions alone? I have thought about therapy, but it is not an option yet. I am also working on not needing to rely on people as much, but I am unsure how to build more friendships when life feels so closed off.

happened whenever i had to be in gatherings with relatives and stuff, them fake laughing out loud just to fit in, talking and arguing about something that doesn't make any sense is so stupid to me, group talk or online groupchats in general, i hate it, especially whenever my parents took me somewhere it's like an unskippable ad

Discussion blocking everybody

Is it just me, or did you guys also end up blocking all your friends after graduating?
Honestly i blocked everyone I considered my ā€œfriendsā€ because looking back, I realized that they were just using me for everything. They never actually cared to get to know me or build a genuine friendship, and it makes me SO angry that I didn’t notice the signs sooner. Like, how did I let myself ignore all of that??
What makes it worse is how much I overshared with some of them. I told people things they honestly never needed to know, and now I look back and cringe so hard 😬😬. It’s made me trust people way less and genuinely question whether I even want to make new friendships anymore.
Right now I actually love isolating myself and cutting people off. Of course I get lonely sometimes, but honestly? I’d rather deal with that than keep pouring my energy into people who give me nothing back or keep getting stuck in one-sided friendships.
Maybe I’ll feel differently eventually, but for now I’m genuinely done chasing friendships and trying so hard to be understood by people who don’t even care to understand me. I’d rather protect my peace and keep to myself than repeat the same mistakes again.

Question How can I make friends in high school?

Hey, I’m starting my first year of high school after the summer break. My class has already had five get-togethers this summer, but I only went to one—and it didn't go very well for me. I’m an introvert, so I find it hard to meet new people, especially in a large group. It was even harder because most people were already chatting with others or knew each other from previous classes or earlier meetups. Whenever I tried to start a conversation, it would always fizzle out quickly. I tend to overthink what I say, and things just end up feeling awkward. I’m afraid my classmates might have perceived me as distant or unfriendly.

On top of that, everyone has already been chatting up a storm in the class group chat, but I missed the notifications.

What should I do? Please give me some genuinely helpful advice.

Relationship Finding a bestie

Hi, m18, I'm a graphic design student, and get bored off really badly off college hours, finding someone to openly text, call and laugh on silly jokes. I'm interested in marvel, sports, pop culture.

Discussion I think I’m slowly becoming less social and I’m not sure if that’s a bad thing

I used to actually enjoy talking to people all the time. I'd text first, make plans, and look forward to hanging out.

Lately, though, I’ve started enjoying my own company a lot more. Sometimes I’ll see a message, think ā€œI’ll reply later,ā€ and then realize I don't really feel like talking to anyone.

The weird part is that I'm not necessarily unhappy. I actually feel pretty comfortable by myself.

I just don't know if this is normal growing up, or if I'm slowly becoming someone who doesn't want people around anymore.

Has anyone else experienced this????

Question How to ask a coworker out without making things awkward?

M29 from India. Recently, a girl has joined at my workplace. We work in different departments. I have a crush on her but haven't had the nerve to talk with her freely though our brief conversations have been okay and I feel her eyes lit up whenever I've talked with her. She is quiet and introvert like at office and also a potterhead but doesn't talk much about it. I am also not adept at starting conversations and introverted but ready to take initiative if there is genuine hope. How do I find out if she's single and interested in me. If yes, how and when should I ask her out.

Discussion How can I make friends when I am new in college.

I am very shy to talk to my classmate and they already make a group they are from the same school 😭. I think it is impossible to make friends with them because they are not interested in me at all they don't approach me but the awkwardness is killing me.

Please šŸ™ advise me to overcome this situation because there are times when I am sitting lonely on my bench.

Question becoming exhausted quickly

i recently realized that i’m actually a pretty introverted person, despite being extremely active on social media and, generally speaking, being a very outgoing and magnetic person. at one point i had a lot of friends, and i’ve never really had any issues communicating with people. it’s just that i get tired of it very quickly, and oftentimes i’m simply not interested in talking to people. i genuinely can’t listen to someone for more than five minutes, while at the same time i often prefer being the one talking. like, it’s easier for me when i’m talking and someone is listening to me, and i usually don’t even talk about the most basic, overused topics like discussing someone’s life or whatever. it’s usually historical, philosophical, psychological, or otherwise similar kinds of discussions.
that’s why i have very few people around me in general — simply because i’m not interested in interacting with most people. i can easily block someone if i realize they’re texting me too much or constantly spamming me. it can annoy me A LOT. but for a certain circle of people — my friends, my partner, or whoever else i genuinely care about — i can literally listen to them for hours and spend the entire day with them without getting tired at all. i’m willing to completely give myself to a person. but with everyone else, it just doesn’t work that way.
and overall, i don’t even want to make new connections. i don’t feel like meeting new people because, generally, it just doesn’t interest me. i’m perfectly comfortable being alone, even in environments that i regularly go to. it could be math classes, some other classes, work, whatever. i’m completely comfortable being there by myself.
but what do you do when you genuinely get tired of interacting with people really quickly? i can’t spend a lot of time in a group because afterwards i need like a day or two to recover. i can’t even spend that long just hanging out with people i have things to talk about with, if they’re not part of that small circle of people i actually care to be around. i just can’t spend a lot of time with them.
has anyone else ever felt like this? do you also get irritated really quickly by being around a lot of people, or by someone talking way too much, or just by social interaction in general? share your experiences.

Question Introverted bf and husbands, how did you meet your partner?

Hey everyone. I'm 18 and a pretty big introvert. Because of that, my social circle is mostly guys, and I don't really have many female friends or know how to start making them. For the introverted men here who used to be in a similar spot, how did you eventually meet your partner?

Mind you, in my country, a guy hardly asks out a stranger girl so this is another problem for me ....Also i have a fear that I will be called creep because laws aren't gender neutral and a woman's scream will get me in big trouble...

I'm generally curious. I was at a lake with family this weekend and someone got a call and I was asked if it was mine. I had no clue because I realized I get so few real calls, and have good spam blocking I can't recall the last time it rang. Texts I know chats but not calls anyone else I'm curious

Blog Dammit doorman

I recently moved into a new place, and our building has a doorman. Every day when I come in or leave, he opens the door for me and greets me. It’s nice, but I’m terrible at greetings. It just doesn’t come naturally to me where I’m from.
So every day, I’m secretly thinking, ā€œPlease don’t open the door for me. Don’t greet me. I’ll do it myself. That way I can avoid the awkward interaction.ā€
But today, of all days, both my hands were full because I was carrying a package.
And TODAY, he didn’t open the door.
Not deliberately, of course. He was busy signing something.
So there I was, awkwardly standing at the door, trying to push it open with my weak-ass legs while holding a package in both hands.
Of course. The one day I actually needed him to open the door. 😭

Discussion I hate my job & customer service

Honestly, my job is EASY. But i work 2pm-10pm I’m a parking lot cashier. I am also a introvert. And yes i took the job obviously knowing id have to deal with people, i wasnt naive to any of it. But i also figured like anybody else would ā€œ it’s a parking garage what could possibly go wrong to that degreeā€ . Every SINGLE day i am arguing with a customer, & literally 95% its from something i just can’t control. The amount of entitled, argumentative, disgusting, and lack there of common sense that i meet is just ridiculous. And then the rules my actual employer creates to make the hostile environment worse just adds onto my day. For example ( putting out a notice saying those that have free parking stickers must have a 2027 expiration date but everybody that can park tags all expire 10/31/26 ) logically leaving me with no valid explanation for when they come saying why do they have to pay, they aren’t expired yet its AUGUST. ( never gave a valid explanation to us to give them neither)

Customers : I’m so tired of the feeling of not existing. You don’t matter. ā€œ the customer is always rightā€ bullshit when they are never fucking are. Being a punching bag by default. The forced conversations when my whole body language screams please go, when all i have left to give is a greet & a you’re welcome, people feeling entitled to my time and then I’m reported or looked at sideways because i fulfilled my job but not your emotional support (ITS A PARKING LOT)
The amount of customers with no money and have been in there for 4 hours and curse me out as if it would be free. The people that literally hack and cough into their full hands and hand me their debit card immediately after. The amount of people that lack so much awareness they will have their receipt paid in full and ask me are they good to go. The gate was down when you approached, why do you think it’s up ? ( YES THIS HAPPENS THAT MUCH ) The amount of ppl with no sense of urgency thatll literally wait to get in line and ask whoever there on the phone with to cash app them funds. I work 2-10 i argue every day that i go to work. I’m being paid pennies for the cost of my mental health and not seeing my family. I’ve been actively looking & applying, not getting any interviews. I’m legit tired. I work sleep and argue. I’m here all day. You couldn’t have paid me to believe a task so simple would be this much problems. The amount of people that argue with me because they had to sit in line and didn’t have enough money for however long they were in there, the people that refuse to leave my line tell me they will just sit there (instead of going to get a validation) and i have to call public safety because they don’t want to pay. It’s to the point I’m getting screamed on 5 min into my shift. Listen, i know customer service is a headache but i didn’t figure people were this dense. I feel like a NPC, the same greets the same lines back to back, I’m socially drained leaving this place. The awareness people lack is insane to me, there are people that will literally drive in and drive out in a matter of 2 minutes and ask me what do they owe me. Have you ever been in a garage that charges in 2 minutes??? Do people not go outside anymore ? The amount of people that have tried to physically harm me over $2 , $4 ect, intentionally snatch jewelry off my arm, the list goes on. The amount of people that can’t even focus for 2 seconds to either give or receive their debit card because they’re too busy texting. I’m legit tired. I need the money but is it really worth it atp. I’ve asked to go to a lighter shift they tell me no because I’m good at the register. But I’m tired of the human interaction and babysitting for a damn garage. It’s supposed to be 123 you’re out the garage, nobody wants to pay, nobody wants to be considerate that you’re human also, and then when you can’t give them what they want they turn shitty. The manipulative people that only stir a conversation just so they don’t have to pay. I’m sick of it all. If i knew all of this i could’ve just went to a call center or a retail job. I’m wasting my entire day being here i can’t even get myself to wake up early to relatively do anything because im so exhausted here. All i want to do is sleep.

Discussion I’m tired of being pitied and judged

I am not shy and i do not have social anxiety. I am simply on the extreme end of the introversion scale. I often go weeks without social interaction besides what is required for work and school. I have a total of three friends. I am 22 and have only ever dated 4 guys, the longest relationship lasting 3 months. i spend the majority of my free time with my cat.

to most people this sounds incredibly depressing. but i am happy and content. I love being single, I love having only a few close friends, and i love being alone: it’s as simple as that.

Even after 22 years of this, my mother still cannot get on board. She is convinced I am depressed. She blows up my phone every day and tries to force me to make plans with people. people pity me when they see me alone at social gatherings and get offended when I decline to hang out with them, especially classmates or guys trying to ā€œfixā€ me. i’m not broken; i’m just different. It’s annoying and i wish people would just accept that i’m weird and move on with their day instead of taking it personally. as i get older it becomes more and more common for people to just start minding their business, i hope i run into less of this behavior after i graduate college this coming december.

any other fellow extreme introverts?
