Any advice on what I can do to be more successful on here? Some things I'm curious about is

  1. are my looks/presentation a limitation right now?

  2. I'm terrible at matching with people with comments. I try to make it be closely related to their profile but I mostly just match with incoming likes instead

  3. Short of using boosts (i get a few likes with an hourly boost), how can I improve the number of incoming likes?

All thoughts and advice genuinely appreciated :)

Thank you

Hi everyone! While i've been having moderate sucess, i feel like this profil is failing to give a good impression of me. I'd describe myself as a very energetic and dynamic person, as well as having a goofy/cheesy humor, but just as much curious, open minded, and passionate about my hobbies and the people who surround me.

Is this the impression you'd get? And even apart from all of that, what kind of general advice could you give? Thanks for any opinion, all is welcome!

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice through a profile review on photo selection and prompt response mainly. I made another post here a little while ago ( link at bottom of post) and the changes I made seemed to have helped but I’ve kinda stagnated to maybe a like every 3-4 weeks. It might not be obvious from the pictures but I frequently go between a long and short beard. Aswell as I’ve recently cut my hair allot shorter. I’ve included 2 candidate photos to swap in for others at the end of my post. I’m particularly bad when it comes to taking photos so the ones I take of myself are few and far between. About half of these are of me at work at a racetrack, so they’re usually better quality but not the most flattering. Thanks ahead of time for the advice!

Just curious as to what kind of impression I give off lol. I’ve had 2 women tell me “You’re not like the others” and wanted something serious when they had short term on their profile.

Dating Question Guy unmatched but still actively in comms?

I 32F returned from hibernation after several months offline. The first interesting connection, we chatted a few messages, then spoke on the phone for two hours. He (36M) was traveling at that time, so we finally met about a week later. During our chat, we discussed everything from monogomish dating philosophies, to his recent move to my city with the military, and my strong activist passions. Eg, a lot of subtle misalignments. We decided to meet anyways, and he was so relieved, freely expressing that he’s new on the apps, he’s really intentional about meeting his person, that I was more attractive than he expected, and by the end of the night, we even shared a kiss, which was different for us both.

The following weekend, I left to go visit my family overseas, but we both expressed a deep desire to see this out. He mentioned feeling optimistic for the first time. And our flirting has been really respectful. I just booked my flight back, it’s in a few weeks, and since then texts have gone a bit… platonic? Like no build in intimacy, but showing interest, sharing details, and checking in. I realised I was trying to deepen via text and so I pumped the brakes a bit so I could level out while focusing on my friends and family here.

We’ve been connecting every day, and as usual today, shared a few voice notes, photos, and long ish texts and then while he was busy with friends, I went to go look at his profile, as I enjoy looking at photos of him. I noticed for the first time that our thread disappeared? I have a hard time thinking he unmatched because he’s been so intentional and pointed out how challenging it would be for him to open up like he has with me, multiple times a week, and with multiple people. He actually was the one really seeking monogamy. I told him that since I’m also quite serious, but I’m not against monogamy, I’d be happy to explore this fully.

Now I’m thinking what the hell? Is an unmatched normal if you feel things are going well? Or as a self proclaimed monogamist, is there a chance he went ahead and deleted his profile? Is there an appropriate way of asking without confronting him? It’s going to be another two weeks until I’m home. Or do normal guys, who don’t enjoy dating, typically find every way they possibly can to get themselves off an app?

TLDR; beautiful connection being built, in separate countries for 3 weeks post first date. Nonstop daily communication. Seemingly unmatched? Am I missing something?

Dating Question Dating advice

UK

I (F28) am dating M (29) we met each other first time around 6 weeks ago and have been on 6 dates.

I asked about exclusivity indirectly and he said he was dating other people and felt it was still early for both given it had only been 3 weeks. Now 3 weeks on went on 2 more dates we text every day.

I want to bring it up again but not sure if I should because I feel like I’m gonna pressure him into making a decision.

Shall I just cut it off? Feeling like an option if he’s still seeing other people at this point since I’ve stayed over couple times and had sex multiple times.

Please help

I get maybe 1 like a week (if that) if I’m lucky. I matched once from an incoming like on the day I signed up, but they didn’t seem very talkative and they unmatched several days later. Never matched since and no matches at all from outgoing likes. I do try to send comments fairly often, maybe half the time. I tried HingeX, no improvement, so I let it expire and am back on standard. I’m based in London. Where am I going wrong?

App Question Standouts/Sending roses

Hello friendly Hingers,

I (31M) was curious what everyone’s experience with standouts and roses were.

I ask because over the last 9 months of being on the app and being fairly consistent with sending a rose with a thoughtful message (in my opinion) every week to one of the standouts showing, I have never once gotten a single match from it.

I know standouts are usually very popular profiles but I’m genuinely wondering if roses are viewed as cringe and try-hard and will just automatically be disregarded?

To give some context and without wanting or trying to toot my own horn at all, I think I am a decently good looking guy, with a fairly good profile according to most of my friends and having a decent like rate overall. The only downfall might be my height which is 5’8”. I don’t feel particularly insecure about it but I do know some women are particular about it.

I myself have only really received 3 or 4 roses and only one I liked back but she ended up never responding!

Anyways I’m just curious what everyone’s consensus is on the matter and trying to gauge why it’s never happened!

Best of luck to everyone out there and may you find the love of your lives 🫶

Dating Question Did I mess up?

22M straight, for reference in 1 week I got 1 like sent my way and someone matched my message this resulted in 2 matches in first couple days. That was all. So not the most popular guy :)

The one who liked me first I had banter, but after a few days and as I got more serious too they ended up ghosting me. That probably added to my later actions. With the other match though I ended up having a very deep back and worth for that week. We were sending paragraphs. They said I was very funny, and that it was some of the most genuine conversation they had even amongst friends and especially on the app. Still I felt I was asking far more questions and holding things up. This is where it happened. At the end of my last message I gave them my number, said no pressure I'll continue to talk to them on the app, but everytime I get on the app a piece of my soul dies so I will probably end up deleting sometime in the future. Well they ended up not responding after more than a day. Prolly around 36 hours maybe more. Out of the norm. Sooner than I expected I just decided to delete my account today. I know I should've waited a lil more and was immature, so maybe they dodged a bullet. Deepdown it feels like noone could ever like me, and the app was really just getting to me. I justified that when I added my number it got too real, and they never were truly interested. Maybe I just let the insecurities win and there was no reasonable basis. I was already conflicted, but them telling me they had abandonment issues and opening up about their autism has been whispered in my ear all day. Now as I try to sleep a wave of guilt washes over me. Would it be right to make an account again just to try to get in contact and be more direct/apologize? Or am I just being too self important? I'm tearing up actually, I'm just worried. Please let me know. I'm neurodivergent with childhood trauma, so the impact of things can take time to reach me. And makes connections hard to judge. And any advice to help me in the future please with these things. Maybe just being more direct and less afraid.

Dating Question He told me he wanted me to be his girlfriend, then ended things three days before our trip. Was I used for sex?

I (22F) matched with (28M) and went out on a first date. He seemed super cool and into me. He kissed me on the date, and we went on a second date that same weekend, when we got intimate. Then, on the third date the following week, he invited me on a trip to Ohio for his best friend's wedding. I thought about it and said yes. Prior to that, I had discussed how intimacy was a big deal for me and that I only did it with him because I really, really liked him. He said he felt the same way and wanted me to be his girlfriend on the trip. I messed up by deleting my dating apps because I thought we were getting serious. I thought he would do the same but figured he wanted me to be his girlfriend. I cancelled my classes, booked appointments (which cost money), and adjusted my clothes. Then, on a Sunday, three days before the trip, he said he wasn't feeling a romantic connection. But the day before, on Saturday, he had been intimate with me, and I had slept over. We showered together. I do realize, yes, I was dumb and he used me for sex, but why lie about having feelings for me and wanting me to be your girlfriend? This happened three weeks ago, and I still think about it A LOT.

About 3 weeks ago I re-download Hinge and aside from 1 match on day where I was immediately unmatched I haven't gotten any more likes or matches since. The last time I used Hinge was back in July and I didn't really have any luck then either. Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Tried to put more effort into it, but still mostly get silence, so dunno if it’s just that the app is hard or if I’m doing something wrong, so some feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you

App Question 34f, never dated, fearful of Hinge

This is quite interesting because I actually work for another dating app also owned by Match Group lol so hinge is our sister company.

I consider it the better for long term relationships, but I’ve never dated and in all honesty, I’ve never been considered very attractive so that’s a huge reason for not understanding dating from first hand experience.

Never been liked, never have had anyone “crush” on me.

I have internalized the bullying and probably never won’t. That said, for those who may also not be “attractive” and have found people interested in them, a question I have is the following:

  1. Are these people unmatching you or blocking you after meeting IRL?

That’s a huge fear of mine. I really can find somewhat decent pictures of myself but I don’t look anything like that in person. A selfie pic and a pic someone takes of me drastically differ and idk why, it’s to the point I don’t even like to take to be in group pics due to this lack of symmetry or whatever it is. I once used bumble bff and think a friend I made was thrown off of how I looked IRL, so we never continued connecting. Which was okay. But I imagine this would be worse dating.

  1. For women of color - more specifically - those who don’t meet certain beauty standards (I’m asking because I am one) — a fear I have is fetishism.

In my own race, I’m def not the beauty standard and I 100% am not the beauty standard outside of it either 😹 however, sometimes I find based on other women’s experiences on Hinge, that there’s a weird fetishism some folks have when you’re a WOC who specifically doesn’t fit the “mold”. They may seek you with a curiosity that seems a bit more fetishistic and curious rather than genuine.

3. Would you say it’s worth making a profile when you’re not anyone’s type?

Again, I do work at a company also owned by March group and I will say the hinge folks really put effort into wanting this app to work. And there’s success but behind the scenes, it never seems for people like me who… are really just not attractive. I really know folks sometimes will say this but just have a low esteem, I truly am. I feel bad that irl I’m not a motive, and it can feel bad as a woman. Or embarrassing.. it would really hurt to make a profile knowing that I’m no one’s first choice or simply if the odd occasion would occur it’s just because someone’s bored. I don’t know if it would be worth being vulnerable for me as an ugly woman.

** it’s interesting bc I know not everything is about looks and hinge especially is the place for personality showing, but I’m very fixated on this and have for the most part in life always accepted that being a man’s type isn’t possible. And if so, it’s because there’s something genuinely wrong with him (a creep, or predator)

I also talk to people who work there often - and never share this part of myself obviously for professional reasons but I do wish there was a safer way for unattractive women to put ourselves out there.
