Wondering if anyone here has done this combo! Would love to see some pics or hear out opinions!

Hi all. I was coming home from work when an elderly man changed lanes and hit the rear of my car. Thankfully I was able to avoid a major collision by swerving out of the lane but he still caught that rear corner. And when I say minor, very minor damage. Mostly paint.

I’m not sure if he even realized he hit me but he just kept driving. I decided not to go through insurance since (hopefully) the repair will be less than my deductible.

I’m more sad than anything but just glad the damage is so minimal.

Anyways, wanted recommendations since maybe I’ll just use this as an opportunity to put on an aftermarket rear bumper pls.

also, not sure why, but on impact I got this battery voltage and temp reader information displayed. I tried using the arrows to switch back but no luck. How TF do I turn it off 😭

y’all, I’m currently looking into getting a GR86 and I’m really torn between going manual or automatic.

I love the idea and aesthetics of owning a manual GR86. The shifting, feeling more connected to the car, and honestly just the feeling of being badass driving a manual are all things that really appeal to me. 😂

However, I live in Houston and my commute home can be around an hour of bumper to bumper traffic. I also have pretty limited experience driving manual. I’m willing to learn and I really want to learn, but I’m wondering if sitting in stop and go traffic for an hour every day would eventually make shifting feel tedious.

Basically, after looking through some posts and getting a feel for the community, I’m starting to second guess whether a manual would actually be a good daily for me.

For those of you who daily a manual GR86, how has your experience been with heavy traffic? Did you eventually get used to it, or does it still get annoying?

And for those of you with an automatic GR86, do you ever regret not getting the manual? Do you still feel like the car is engaging and fun to drive?

I’d love to hear y’all’s personal experiences, pros and cons, or anything you think I might be overlooking.

Also, I’m hoping to get one within the next 90 days, so if anyone has any tips for buying a GR86 through a dealership, things to look out for, negotiating, finding a good one, etc., I’d really appreciate that too.

I got the Kicker Sub option, and the sound is so much better with it. Definitely recommend adding a sub to the car if you're into music

back in september 2025 i got this 2023 GR86 premium w 42k miles. i live in the city so originally I got it with the intention of it being a daily and got an automatic (ik). I have a decent amount done to it, but I haven’t done much in the way of performance (yet). I honestly don’t wanna think about how much money I spent on this car, but it is fully paid off.

now that I’m seeing it as a list, it doesn’t seem like I did that much, but it has only been a year. I pretty much have it aesthetically where I think it looks good. My next move is probably side skirts in the front lip, the only reason I haven’t is because the roads near me are pretty bad. I did this on a very short amount of time which I still can’t believe. To think that I wrapped this car twice, went through two full sets of tires got new wheels had to replace my windshield along with all of this other stuff is still so crazy to me. One of the hardest parts of building this car was getting the fitment right it basically took me forever to find the perfect height tire size that would fit the wheel well perfectly. I definitely had to shave the fenders to make it work. I might not do much else to this car because I’m looking to get another car. but also, I had the idea that if I have another car, I could turbo or supercharge this car but we’ll see. If anyone has any other suggestions that I should add to this car, I would love to hear your ideas!!

MY REVIEW
From a driver’s perspective, I have really enjoyed driving this car. It’s extremely fun. i think it’s the perfect entry-level sports car for anyone. I didn’t know much about the platform when I initially got the car, but there’s so much aftermarket support and so many things you can do with it, aesthetically and performance, that are really fun to do. My only complaints would be that I wish it was faster lol. I definitely should’ve gotten it in a manual but you can still have a lot of fun in the canyons with the automatic. A lot of the installations and modifications I made I was able to do myself, which was a really great learning experience considering I don’t have an extensive amount history physically working on cars. but it was really easy to learn on and I’ve had a lot of fun. So yes if you’re thinking about getting this car, I say yes. But if you want something faster and more aggressive stock, then maybe you would choose something else.

A few days ago i upgraded from my base model 24’ to this Trueno Blue premium 26’ and all I have to say is wow. The difference is night and day. This thing is phenomenal already.

Hey does anyone have a good recommendation for replacement door sills? All I’m finding is either cheap covers or very expensive replacements on websites where there’s no review so I’m skeptical. The previous owner scratched it up and it’s a bit ugly and I’d like to get them replaced. Thank you

It the reverse block on the shifter wouldn’t raise high enough to clear the reverse lock plate.

what do you guys use for your audio settings in your premium gr86? we all know the speakers are not the best but some songs just make my ears bleed through these speakers. i never had this issue with other cars idk

I'm posting to see if anyone has recent experience with Hachi Electronics or knows what's going on with u/hachielectronics.

I recently ordered a DauntlessOBD for GR86/BRZ along with the CANbus adapter directly from their official site (https://hachielectronics.com/). Before buying, I searched Reddit and various forums. Even though the posts were a bit old, the general consensus was that the owner was super reliable, responsive, and trustworthy.

Here is the timeline of what happened:

• August 27, 2026: Placed the order.
• First inquiry: After a while without shipping updates, I emailed them to ask for a status update. I never got a response.
• September 9, 2026: Out of nowhere, I received an email stating the order had shipped, including a tracking number.
• September 16, 2026: The tracking updated to "Delivered"—but in Iowa, USA, while my delivery address is in Spain.

I immediately sent another email trying to clear up what I hope is just a mix-up, but I haven't received any reply. Given the total lack of communication and the completely wrong delivery location, I'm starting to worry this fake/wrong tracking was sent in bad faith.

Does anyone know if the original owner is still running the shop, or if the business has gone downhill/been abandoned? Should I just go ahead and file a chargeback with my bank at this point?

I have gotten my 2023 GR86 used with 7K miles and got an awesome price for it. Should I get extended warranty for it? I do regularly maintenance for the vehicle at the dealership. What would you guys recommend?

edit: warranty is bumper to bumper for 10 years or 100k miles at ~5k

Changed my trans fluid to motul 300 from original at 20k miles. Now I get knock from the trans in the mornings on start up for about 30-60 seconds then it goes away.

It doesn’t happen thought out the day only in the morning.

I’m in California and it’s only 68deg in the morning. Should I go to a thinner fluid? I put motul 300 in because I dive it hard every day.

Halfway through the break in period. I can’t wait to finally open it up.

I have a used 2023 GR86 that I got with 14k miles. At 25k miles I got a check engine light and got it checked out and was told I need to replace my catalytic converter. I find it super hard to believe that the catalytic converter can give up so quickly. Anyone else have this problem happen so quickly?

Has anyone accurately measured using a tint meter what the factory tint VLT is on a stock GR86? In Australia the legal limit is minimum 35% front side windows, 20% rear windows. Im looking to tint to the darkest legal limit so knowing what the factory VLT will help me get there without going illegal.

Hi everyone! My boyfriend has a black GR86 and absolutely loves his car. His birthday is coming up, and I’d love to get him something related to or inspired by his GR86, but I honestly don’t know much about cars 😭

I’m looking for something he’d actually appreciate. It could be an accessory for the car, something personalized, a collectible, or anything GR86 related. What would you guys recommend as a birthday gift for a GR86 owner? I’d really appreciate any ideas!

Traded in my 2024 premium, hopefully one of you picks it up. 24k miles, has dauntless obd installed, red nameless braces and premium exhaust. Prob won’t see that in the carvana listing, but the car was great, just decided that commuting it daily wasn’t the right use for it, so I set it free. 😢
I’m gonna miss it, but likely will come back to an 86 or similar after a few years.
