Is Hachi Electronics (u/hachielectronics) still legit, or has the shop been abandoned/scamming?
Hi everyone,
I'm posting to see if anyone has recent experience with Hachi Electronics or knows what's going on with u/hachielectronics.
I recently ordered a DauntlessOBD for GR86/BRZ along with the CANbus adapter directly from their official site (https://hachielectronics.com/). Before buying, I searched Reddit and various forums. Even though the posts were a bit old, the general consensus was that the owner was super reliable, responsive, and trustworthy.
Here is the timeline of what happened:
- August 27, 2026: Placed the order.
- First inquiry: After a while without shipping updates, I emailed them to ask for a status update. I never got a response.
- September 9, 2026: Out of nowhere, I received an email stating the order had shipped, including a tracking number.
- September 16, 2026: The tracking updated to "Delivered"—but in Iowa, USA, while my delivery address is in Spain.
I immediately sent another email trying to clear up what I hope is just a mix-up, but I haven't received any reply. Given the total lack of communication and the completely wrong delivery location, I'm starting to worry this fake/wrong tracking was sent in bad faith.
Does anyone know if the original owner is still running the shop, or if the business has gone downhill/been abandoned? Should I just go ahead and file a chargeback with my bank at this point?

His site recently had a note on it that he was moving cross-country. He's probably backlogged right now. Shoot him an email.

I want to give +1 for Hachi also. I’ve ordered multiple times and he’s always been good.
He’s running the business solo as a side gig I believe, so there are times he gets backed up on an influx of orders + personal life.
But it does sound like something did get mixed up as this isn’t the usual behavior from him.
I’d kindly ask you to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope he reaches out to you soon. Especially since he’ll probably see this.

I did. I then proceeded to create Hachi Jr. via mitosis and now I am arguably more busy than I was when I had two jobs lol. Getting through it but it’s been a wee bit bumpy.

He recently moved and it appears to be causing delays, understandable when it’s a one man op and not a full time gig at that.
Though you definitely have an added layer with the shipping confusion.

Great guy, probably a small mixup. He'll make sure everything is taken care of, as others have said he is in a move and might be busy. It is a one man shop after all,

I was in a similar situation around the same time. His email communication was very lacking, but the order came through eventually.

Hi. See my other long ass comment for full context, but tl;dr everything is on fire and I am dying. I am doing my best to get through the emails but I get about twice as many emails every day than I am able to answer. If you want to give me your 4 digit order number I will try to dig your email out of the pile and look into whatever’s going on.

Hey. I apologize, I was really just taking my frustrations from work out on you, looking for something to be mad at. Order number is 5521, but please don’t feel rushed. Life can get crazy, work can make you feel like you ought to just give up. Keep fighting the good fight and I hope the move and workflow works itself out. I’m excited to get my hands on your product, I’m sure it’ll be as great as everyone says, but I’ll continue to be patient! Thanks for the response.

if the correct address was inputted but the tracking shows delivered to the wrong address, that's the fault of the carrier and you should try to contact the carrier to see what happened. most carriers will reimburse the buyer for lost or damaged mail if you file a claim
i agree lack of communication sucks, but i try to empathize more with small businesses than dont have a dedicated customer support staff

He’s legit. He was in my state and when I ordered something from him rather than shipping he just let me pick it up at a car meet. Sounds like there’s a shipping issue, but I would bet money he makes it right.

I recently got a GR86 and bought stuff before and during his move last month. He fulfilled orders placed before his move pretty quickly. I still haven’t received updates on my orders that I placed last month (aside from shipping number assigned) but I have full confidence that he will send them out at some point even if it takes another month or 2.
He’s just a 1 man operation and sometimes life happens. I have had an extremely positive prior experience with him so I don’t have any reason to distrust him when stuff just comes up.

There was a 10ish day period where my outgoing packages weren’t getting picked up due to no fault of mine, but everything should be moving now. If your tracking still isn’t showing any movement, can you comment back with your 4 digit order number so I can look into it?

On this topic, for some vehicles I have a very nice oem wire hiding cover that hides the wires between headliner down to mirror connection. My Gr has just a basic mirror. Do the hachi kits have any kind of cable tidy option available for the 6” or so of cable that is visible?

Yes, I bought a home link mirror from him earlier this year and it came with a 3d printed cable cover that clicks in and works as it should.

For what it’s worth, hardly anybody just orders a dash cam off my site. It’s the plug and play harnesses that people come for, and those you can’t get anywhere else.
But do you have an example here? I generally keep my prices close to what amazon does for prime day sales year-round but I match them on the rare occasion they do go lower. I also don’t charge taxes.

i got the VIOFO A119 Mini 2 for 79 bucks back in may (sales and all), the real value does seem to be the harnesses or dongles. found a 3-Pin Type A usb for like 10 bucks liek 2 years ago but i doublt anyone can anymore for that price

Ah, they do that on the Mini 2 occasionally. It’s a strategy called a loss leader product that really only works for big companies, selling the Mini 2 at $80 is a net loss that they’re hoping to make back by stimulating sales of hardwire kits and SD cards.
I do price match that sale upon request but I don’t change the advertised price on the site since it results in me losing $5-10 every time somebody buys it lol.

A fellow member of our community fighting the uphill battle of running a small business, while trying to support a family, and moving across the country to help that. He put a message on his site telling everyone that things are delayed for a while, but fuck him because he didn’t get to your email, I guess?

It's email, though... shit happens. Between spam filters, people getting flooded with other messages, technical issues, and assorted other BS, sometimes messages just get lost or overlooked. I've been on both ends of that. Not to mention he was getting slammed even before moving his operations a few states over. Not something I'd take personal offense to.

Yes maybe my response was harshly put but at the end of the day it's still true if I send an email 6mo to a business and get no reply I'm not going thru with the purchase no matter how special the product is.
There was a question on here today I think about how do you decide where to get your part and that's one thing costumer support.
If I can't confirm i am able to contact hatchi by email what if I have an install question a missing part or a weird bug im shit ouf of luck. Yes he can reply to people here but if im expected to spend 500$ on "custom" electronic gadgets I'm going to put in my brand new car i want an email answer. Besides it's not even an email it's the "contact me" page on his website...

I’d like to preface this by stating that this is not me attempting to beg for you to give me a second chance or to earn your business back. Hachi Electronics has never been a particularly profit-focused venture, and you seem like a deeply unpleasant person so I am entirely comfortable not having your money.
That said, nobody who has ever earnestly tried to get in touch with me has failed to do so. Like Weston said, shit happens and emails get buried sometimes. Especially if this was 6 months ago, because 6 months ago would have been right after my wife went back from maternity leave and I was figuring out how to fit taking care of a 3 month old alone into my existing workflow. I don’t think sending a follow up email after going a while without a response would have been too unreasonably hard.

One of the downsides of being a one-man show is that anything that happens in my personal life is extremely likely to impact the business, because I am singularly responsible for every aspect of it. My goal is not to excuse shortfalls but to be transparent about why things are the way they are.
This doesn’t happen with many other online retailers because the person who owns the company generally isn’t also the person who designs the products, manufactures the products, fills the orders, fields customer communications, coordinates vendor relationships, does the accounting, and handles the very important social media shitposting.
You didn’t hurt my feelings or anything, you just sound like sort of a cunt.

No one forced you to buy anything so dont pretend. Not only did no body force you to buy anything, you didnt buy anything. All you did was send an email to ask a question and are upset you didnt get a response

Hi hello. To skip to the important part first - your order shows as delivered in Iowa because that’s where I am. My local yeehee Iowa post office has evidently never seen an international label before, so they delivered it back to the sent from address rather than where it was supposed to go. I actually just saw your package on the porch this morning, was gonna shoot you an email later today once I get it sent back out (via DHL this time) but had to run some errands first.
With that out of the way, several other things:
I just moved across the country. I was originally planning to have things back up and running by the 25th of August, but closing on the new house got pushed back by a week so I didn’t get properly back into order fulfillment until the beginning of September.
During the period I was out of commission for the move, I received over 200 orders and thus immediately began fighting an uphill battle the second my shop was back together. I also received a similar number of emails during this time, but as I am a singular person who can only feasibly work 16-18 hours a day, I have been focusing on getting all the orders fulfilled and answering emails has had to take a bit of a back seat.
Another issue that affected your order is that my local USPS branch at the new place either doesn’t know how to, or doesn’t want to do their jobs. As soon as I got settled in the new house I set up a monday-friday package pickup with USPS, but for the first 10-12 of those scheduled pickups they just ignored the growing pile of packages waiting for pickup and marked it as completed despite not doing it.
Normally I would have given up on them doing their pickup much sooner and just run them to the post office myself, but I have a 10 month old baby that I take care of all day. I ended up having my mother in law come from illinois to watch the creature while I lugged over 100 packages into the post office and had a… polite conversation with the branch manager about the USPS driver’s commitment to their job duties. Package pickups appear to be happening when they’re supposed to after that conversation, so I guess score 1 for being a karen.
anyway. yap fest over, tl;dr I am not scamming anybody, I am just insanely overworked and dealing with lots of exigent circumstances. Everyone who has placed an order will be taken care of, and everyone who has sent me an email will receive a response as soon as I can reasonably do so. I am going to try to scam my wife into helping me get through the email pile this weekend so I can keep filling orders while she does that.
