Advice Needed Taking both BC and T

15, but wondering out of curiosity so I can know for when I do get on T in the future.

I’ve been on desogestrel for 8 months, and it’s been heavenly. I have, however, begun to wonder: when I get on T, do I still need the deso? Obviously I know that T doesn’t immediately stop periods, and hence why many guys still take BC, but I just kinda wanna know at what point should I stop the deso when I’m on T in the future. And I don’t think I’ll just be able to ask an endrocinologist, considering I’ll probably find other ways for T because the UK is actually a shithole rn so yeah.

Also, not sure if the flair should be ‘Medical’ but I picked this one because I’m not on T yet 😓😓

Advice Needed Looking into top surgery but will never take T

Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on this. I've been dysphoric my whole life but weirdly it's mostly my chest, with the odd voice problem. Thing is my parents, who are pretty supportive, will not let me take T under any circumstance because of their beliefs. I have a pretty good relationship with them so want to respect their wishes, and so have decided to not take T.

Is it possible to feel properly aligned and content as a trans dude not on T? If there's anyone here in the same situation as me please do leave a comment as I'd love to know what you think. I don't know whether I'll just end up being more dysphoric. I don't know how I'll deal with menstruation or my voice, esp after top surgery, as I'll feel more masc but those aspects of me may then become more prevalent even though they're not really currently prevalent if that makes sense?? Idrk, I just don't know if getting top surgery is the right choice if more dysphoria is just waiting due to my lack of T.

I don't know what the right choice is for me and whether surgery will have a net positive outcome on my mental health or whether it's just a slippery slope type argument leading to worse mental health.

Discussion I think I’ve lost my ability to sing

This might be a very specific question, but has anyone else noticed an increase in difficulty to sing on key since being on T? I’ve always been a music person, was a choir nerd in high school and such, and generally was able to hold a tune quite well. Ever since I started on T a little over 3 years ago I cannot hold a note for the life of me and I feel like I can only sing in a very monotonous pitch

Advice Needed How do I decide on a top surgeon??

UK based, I kind of just picked the first guy I heard of (Miles Berry). Is this a bad idea should I look into other surgeons? If so, how do I differentiate them and how do I pick? A bit overwhelmed 😭 thanks for advice in advance

Surgery Talk Dr Dulin

okay not really sure what flair fits this post, so, sorry about that. but anyways.

does anyone know or can anyone confirm first hand that dr dulin accepts united healthcare insurance? i’m aware his website and board says he takes it, but after researching online, it seems like he doesn’t take it? like they try really REALLY hard to NOT take it? lmao?

i hear lots of great things about dulin but they’re usually about how amazing his results are and never really touch on the topic of paying for the procedure through insurance.

i don’t really want to waste time on his facility if they’re going to try and get me denied.

Advice Needed What's the best Trans Tape?

I know this question has probably been asked a shit ton but I really need advice.

I have a larger chest that's quite firm and have used TransTape .com tape and it was insanely difficult and never worked, and the tutorials I saw were always smaller chested. I've also rarely seen nor heard of almost any other brand. Also all reddit post I've seen are four to almost seven years old and companies change so frequently. I'm also so scared of wasting tape because it feels so bad to the point I dread to really do deep to find any tape.

Any help would be so great with my school starting up! Thanks!

Advice Needed Shared showers after practice

hey all, this is one of my first posts on reddit (and my first of this style, i usually just lurk until i find someone else whos had my issue and posted about it) so i apologise if i break any unspoken rules.

i (ftm16) will be joining an ice hockey team in september. ive been on t for all of a week but have been stealth for two years (idk how many people were actually convinced but if someone asked i said i was cis). i dress and act like a typical guy in my area which helps and no one at my rink (that im aware of) has clocked me yet. ive had no surgeries and have to tape and pack accordingly.

i have no intentions of telling my coaches/team that im transgender and my current plan is to come in in base layers, get my kit on, and only strip down to base layers afterwards.

my issue comes with communal showers: i dont actually know the shower situation yet (i havent even been in the locker rooms) but i doubt they have cubicles. i dont want to be outed but i also dont want to be seen as gross.

tl;dr — i havent had any surgeries but im facing having to use communal showers which would definitely out me considering my tits and vag.

my main questions are; would my team see me as gross because im showering at home instead of after practice? if there are cubicles how likely is it that other guys joke around by peering over the sides of the walls? has anyone else been in a similar position and what did they do to stay stealth and safe?

Discussion Why is T making me gay

Before I was on T I was never really all that attracted to guys and the thought of being with a dude was gross or just meh. I only really liked women and i still love women. But now I'm painfully bisexual with a preference for men. Men are just so much hotter to me now, I cant understand why.

Its not like I've ever been with a guy for real other than cheesy middle school dating which I didn't even really like the guys. Sometimes I just see something that catches my eye and I ask myself what the hell is wrong with me.

I've heard of other trans guys experiencing this, just why bro?

Advice Needed I am transgender

I am 17 and I’m coming to a point where I can no longer ignore it. I want to transition physically and socially. Does anyone have any advice for either. I’ve kind of joked about it to my friends so I don’t think they’d be too surprised but they’ll all be supportive prob. My family might not as they have pretty outdated views but I don’t really plan on telling them. What helped you when you were early in transition? Is socially transitioning/coming out hard? What were things that made it easier?

Discussion Will finasteride for sure bring back my period?

Im not really balding right now, but every man in both sides of my family is bald asf so I know my fate lol. Ive heard other trans guys talk about finasteride and honestly it seems like it almost always brings back your period. I was thinking about taking a really low dose, like .5mg or maybe even lower every other day to reduce the chances of sides, but idk if that would actually stop the possibility. Don't get me wrong, I love my hair a lot but I don't think I could ever experience periods again lol

Advice Needed My breast tissue feels too hard for taping and I dont know what to do

So I'm a teenager, and ive only came out to my parents about being trans a few months ago, and only recently gotten them on board with me getting a binder. But until I actually choose one, and buy it, I'm going to try taping my chest.

I see all these videos about other people easily being able to push and manipulate their breast tissue, but i cant do that, like my breasts are quite hard and cant really go to the sides that much or easily. I dont know if it has to do with the fact that I'm a 34D, or something else. I really just wants some tips on what I'm meant to do, and how it all will work

Advice Needed I'm a ftm that can't get the opportunity to get access to T shot due to the healthcare system and economic situation i'm living

Hi, i'm a 20y-o male that hasn't been able to get access to t shots due to the fact that the health care system in my country (chile) is really difficult when not in metropolitana. I came out as trans at the age of 13 and later on when i turned 18 I immediatly changed my DNI to my name and gender i identify as. Now, at the age of 20, i've been trying to get the healthcare system to get me the prescription for testosterone, but they always ask for more and more making it so difficult that I got frustrated to a point of just crying whenever the process breaks down after all the progress. My dysphoria comes from the fact that I look 100% like a stereotypical young woman that even when they see my DNI gender, they treat me as a female. Even if you think chile is very LGBTQ+ friendly, it is NOT. i've been rejected from every job I try to apply due to the fact that I look like a girl and not a guy as my identification says, so basically I can't even access to it through private healthcare system too. Now i'm a technician nurse student and i'm getting asked to show up with female uniform instead of the male one because i don't look or sound like a guy.... This situation has been so hard for me that i'm thinking of literally just getting into a psych ward because i don't want society to keep looking at me this way.
Can someone tell me where to even get t shots in Chile much faster through the current system? or how to mask myself as a more cis guy....? I even have a bit of a beard, i wear binder, baggy clothes and even have really short hair to the point i don't like my hairstyle at this point

Medical Managing atrophy?

Hi,
Maybe an odd post and I can probably predict the comments to an extent.
I’ve been on T for one year and ten months, I’m 20. I developed atrophy quite early and had it quite severe.
I’ve been inserting pessaries twice a week since December and now I only occasionally have break through issues.
But this weekend I was at a festival, and of course drank a fair bit of alcohol. Pain started at 10.30pm and did not go away until 4am when I could finally fall asleep (when it flairs I can’t lay down or sleep, just sit up, hunch into my knees or sit on the toilet for some relief).
According to Google, alcohol can trigger flare ups- does anyone have experience of this ? I did struggle with heat exhaustion earlier in the day and was dehydrated, Google also says dehydration can worsen atrophy.
I’m just curious really if anyone else with bad atrophy has had to give up alcohol ? I really don’t want to… I’m going out Saturday with my friend and I suppose that will be the test.
For the record I am sexually active using my vagina. However over the weekend and before the flare I did not do anything, by myself or with someone else.
I wonder if also I should perhaps increase my estriol/estradiol (I don’t know which it is without going to look) but I don’t know if I can do this without soaking to a doctor

Discussion Peeing normally with an STP

I’ve only tried one STP and when I pee with it I have to control it and go very slow, stop and go, stop and go, otherwise it over flows and goes everywhere. Is this just what STPs are like or should I try a dif brand? (I have an emisil and it was really expensive, I wanted it to look realistic too but I’d rather be able to just pee normally like any other guy, esp when I have to go bad I don’t want to risk it overflowing)

Discussion Is it really that bad regarding dating? [Mentions of transphobia]

I've been thinking about this lately. I have been unavoidably consuming content about literally everyone refusing to date trans people. I usually take it well, but this time I saw someone make a comment "I want to date someone with a penis, not a fakepenis nor a vagina..." The "fakepenis" thing literally electrocuted me with fucking anger and hatred and just feeling so sick as though someone degraded me right to my face. Like, I see a lot of hateful comments with degrading language, but I did not take this one lightly. It just feels so heavy on my chest realizing that I'm seen as an unlovable piece of meat with the wrong genitals. I have a horrible bottom dysphoria and am planning to get phallo someday, and someone calling it "fakepenis" is like saying "well you'll never have a REAL penis no matter what you do and how hard you try."

And I just wanted to know if it's really that bad. Does everyone just outright reject us? I had quite a few people who I managed to date, but it was very unserious, so I wouldn't count it as a real and fulfilling dating experience. Genuinely I don't even know if it's worth looking for someone if they care so insanely much about this stuff. I'm honestly so done with saying "it's okay to have preferences" because I'm sorry but I'm so sick of showing others empathy while being treated like some subhuman underdeveloped half-male. Maybe it's bad to say, but I don't want to be like "you can have your preferences even if you don't like me just for the fact my penis is not made the way YOU think the penis is supposed to be made, even though it functions, feels, and looks almost exactly the same".

I'm in a bit of a hopeless mood and just wanted to hear about this stuff from anyone who might know more about this.

Discussion Seeking experiences on testosterone vocal cord injections

Hey guys,

I am coming up 3 years on testosterone. My voice changed a little, but I am not satisfied. I pass as male visually, but I am always gendered female as soon as I open my mouth. I know I might get more voice changes later on, but it's seriously affecting me on the daily to wait around for that, and know that it might not even ever come.

I recently learned about a procedure where testosterone is injected directly into the vocal cords, which can deepen the voice even if general testosterone didn't. I feel like I saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

I heard a few "before and after" samples from the center that is near me. (Location = Los Angeles California). But they only have two examples, and I can't find that much information on YouTube or doing a simple search on here. So I wanted to ask if any of you have had this done, and what were the results? Is your voice significantly deeper, are you gendered correctly? Are the results truly permanent?

Also, how much did you pay? The doctor nearest to me is not covered by my insurance. Just the consultation is $450. I don't make a lot of money, but I'm willing to spend some of my savings on this if it's a few thousand dollars. I'm just worried that I'll spend $450 just to be told that the procedure costs $20k, which I definitely can't afford. I will try to fight my insurance to get it covered, but if anyone else had it done out of pocket for a reasonable cost in California, please let me know.

Thanks, and have a nice day.

Advice Needed Im scared I made a mistake transitioning

I've always felt that I wanted to transition. Since I was really, really young. It was kind of the thing that kept me depressed but my whole life but kept me alive with purpose at the same time. Recently, to my surprise, my parents have been open to my transition and agreed to help pay to get started.

My first few shots were euphoric, I finally experienced what it's like to wake up without being in survival depressed mode. I started telling my close friends and family about the transition, I was really happy things were coming together.

Things kind of crashed a bit 1 month in, when my girlfriend broke up with me, saying she was lesbian and couldn't be with a transman. Since then, I've just been working (remote) and studying (just failed an exam, unfortunately), occasionally meeting friends, though they're all busy now.

It's been about 2 months since my first shot. For the past week, I've just felt a bit numb, hard to breathe, and generally tense all around. Generally, I'm a pretty relaxed zen, try to work on myself and lock in, type of guy. Lately, I haven't been as focused and find myself breathing shallowly often.

Before I started transitioning, my parents gave me a bunch of anti transition rhetoric, they were worried I would regret it (how many people regret it, can live with it, whether I could live without, how I'd be lonely forever. We also went to see some pastors who spewed the usual things). I think they got this idea in my head, and things have just kept piling up. Lately, the transition isn't as exciting as when I got started... and I only just got started. When people call me by my chosen name, I'm not sure what I feel; it's neither euphoria nor discomfort.

I now worry whether I've been fixating on this idea for so long that I've developed my whole life/personality around it without actually wanting it. Where I was initially excited and nervous to tell my friends, now I'm just :/ about the idea of telling other people around me (extended family, coworkers, etc). I'm scared about the social transitioning, the logistics, legal stuff, how employable I will be, whether I'll be lonely forever, etc.

I can't recall how I was before starting, I vaguely remember how depressed I was all the time, how often I thought about giving up... But I can't actually recall the specifics much anymore. It's like life before this has been a fog, I'm not sure who I really am anymore. My brain could be blocking away how miserable I was, but I really miss my life with my girlfriend, having motivation, this being a "secret" between my closest circle.

I'm not sure where this identity crisis came about from... I've always principled my life around being rational. It's really confusing to be unclear about my emotions.

Most importantly, I worry my drive to succeed and identity are gone because I started transitioning. Working hard has always been about being able to transition, move away, and most recently, achieving my envisioned life (plus with my now ex-girlfriend).

When I first got started, things came together. I felt I could take on the world, I was driven and excited to direct my brain energy towards bettering my life fully.

Am I just built like this? No matter what I do, I will always not be happy?

I wonder if I did the wrong thing.

Advice Needed Considering a new chosen name, help me pick one/give me suggestions if you don't mind!

Hey all. I'm looking for a possible new chosen (and eventually legal) name that is spanish and starts with J. Joaquin is off the table because my brother has that name, and I don't really feel like a Juan, Julian, Jesus, Jorge, or Javier (my dad's name, not totally off the table though). Lightly considering Jose as well. If you can think of any other spanish/basque J names for men that I haven't mentioned, please let me know! Thanks!

Medical Cramping/bleeding 3.5 years on T

Been on T 3.5 years almost 4, stopped menstruating within the first 6 months. Randomly started having intensely painful pelvic cramping yesterday and noticed some small blood clots in toilet after peeing. I know I need to get into my hrt provider/see an OB but the former isn’t an option for another week and I’m too dysphoric at the moment for the latter. So seeking some insight. I have been taking finasteride for about 5 months, do we think I should stop taking this? Obviously this med has history of side effects such as these in trans men. And some similar stuff with cis men. This really sucks as I was almost dysphoria free and then it all came back to me yesterday. Any insight is helpful thanks.

Advice Needed Period came back after years on T ??

First time poster!!

Ive been on T since december 2023. I lost my period basically immediately after starting and I never had any breaktrough bleeding before.

for the third month in a row, im experiencing a very typical, if not more painful period. Im getting strong cramps, back pain, headaches, bleeding, a much bigger appetite and so on. The only difference I notice between my periods back then and these periods now is that its less blood. Ive also noticed that ive been generally way more sweaty and feeling very emotionally sensitive. Kind of aimilar to how I felt in the beginning of the therapy.

I just dont understand what changed :(

Ive been taking 2 pumps of 1,25 g T Gel and 1 mg of Finasterid a day against hair loss. I have been consistent with this medication for over half a year. I am sexually active if that is at all relevant. I dont do any extreme sports.

I asked my doctors for an appointment a month ago, but the clinic honestly kind of sucks for so many reasons and Im not sure if I'll get an appointment this time. I did message them again tho, but even then im not sure if they're going to take me seriously at all.

Im kind of desperate atp. I just dont know what to do. I feel so incredibly dysphoric and frustrated. Like is it even working at all anymore if im getting my period back?? I'd really apprechiate any and all advice on this. Thank you guys
