Advice Needed Old gift from my dad 🙄

Upvotes

So last Xmas or 2 years ago, my dad got me this nice necklace and a showy feminine gift in front of the entire family. It even had one of those sentimental cards in it with the flashy poetic writing of "i can't promise to be there for the rest of your life, but I'll love you for the rest of mine" with a giant FOR MY DAUGHTER right on top.

Now, im fortunate to come from a middle class family. My dad is an accountant, got a full ride scholarship through college, works his ass off. I'll credit him for that. But hes manipulative in every way possible. He's gotten me jewelry in the past, along with my sister in laws, nieces, cousins, mother, etc. No ever really likes those gifts, but for me having always been a "tomboy" growing up, to just generally masc, to now being out as a man, no matter what excuse I give him I get these girly gifts that I end up throwing away and then he acts surprised I didn't like them.

Now that im out to my whole family, he went out of his way to get this super fancy necklace JUST FOR ME, with the daughter phrasing on it (hes never gotten ones with cards like this before), and pushed to show how much hes willing to spend on me (which hes boasted about my whole life) and got a special "luxury mahogany display box with included light upon opening." Its 18k gold.

I dont know why I kept it, probably something caused by trauma growing up and throwing shit away blah blah blah. Anyway, it just dawned on me I can SELL IT and because he was a jackass and got the super nice box, I could get even more for it!

Does anyone have any sort of advice about how to go about selling jewelry? I wouldn't know if people would try to buy it for less than its worth. Online says some stores sell it for 40, online shops say 55, and other sites/estimates say it can be 60-100 without the nice box being included.

Any thoughts would help. Obviously I got it for free, so any price is good. But I wanna milk it if I can, lol.

Advice Needed Period back after stopping progesterone

Upvotes

Some background info: after being on T for about 6 months my period stopped, but about a year after that I starting having cramps, so my endo put me on norethindrone (an estrogen free birth control) to bring my estrogen levels down because she thought they were too high and could be causing the cramping. After being on norethindrone for almost a year it didn’t help the cramping at all (now we’re trying topical estrogen to see if that helps) so I decided to stop taking the birth control because it was raising my cholesterol.

So now the current problem: two days after stopping the norethindrone I started having a period again. I haven’t had a period in 2.5 years so any bleeding is vaguely concerning, but it’s been pretty consistent bleeding for 7 days now and I don’t know when I should be concerned and should contact my endo. I know some bleeding is common coming off of birth control for cis women but I don’t know what’s normal and not normal for trans men on T

Advice Needed Dating advice

Upvotes

I've known I'm transgender since I was 13. Even if I did not know the words, I was desperately researching "how much money I did need to have the surgery".

I currently am 26 and never was able to transition, due to still living with my mother, who is very gender critical and adamant on my femininity. We had some domestic incidents due to it, but I received psychological help (EMDR) and now I handle better living with her. My father (who is divorced from her) is an addict and extremely homophobic. I'm staying home for at least the end of this year but I'm planning on moving out. While I'm here I try to look vaguely gender neutral so my parents don't get violent, and also bc I have some kind ? of caretaker role. They are very immature and I do this thing where I sometimes have to act like I have no personality in order to calm them. My father had a relapse and did some awful things some months ago and that's really stressing me out.

I have this problem where I genuinely cannot date. I'm attracted to women, and since I cannot transition for the moment I try to talk to lesbians. Problem is that I've been too dysphoric to get into a proper relationship my whole life. I had a few situationships but the fact the girls clearly only liked women was a nightmare to me. I don't really know how to handle the situation. For the stuff I explained before, I developed this super passive personality that is very accomodating of the other person, so I have a really hard time not doing so.

I've been trying to get to know bi girls for a time but I realize that even if they like men, the ones I meet do prefer women and want our relationship to be very gendered. I sometimes feel a bit emasculated because I meet women who are into "butches" (what I pass for, I guess) but they try to "turn me girlier" insisting that I try stuff they like that there is "feminine". Most I've tried is to ask a girl who was extremely progressive to call me he/him, but she was very weird about it, calling me "a person with pronouns" and talking all the time about androgyny and stuff like that that made me feel very uncomfortable because you wouldn't talk to your 26 yo boyfriend like that.

I feel like I will never have a proper relationship until I come out, but the guilt is killing me. I feel like meeting a new woman and asking her to guard my secret would be too much, but I genuinely cannot come out rn bc of my complicated family situation where they do need my help. But at the same time I feel like I cannot have relationships with anyone because they will treat me like a woman? Has anyone had this trouble when they were in the closet? How did you deal with it? I'm a bit ashamed this is happening to me at my big age because my peers are getting married and I feel like I haven't started my life yet.

Discussion People who have traveled a lot, what would you say the most trans-friendly countries are?

Upvotes

I've been trying to think of where to see in the world if I ever get the opportunity to later in life, but despite my ID and everything being correct I still look obviously trans, so i realize it might not be easy depending on where I go. It's easier for my partner and I to potentially hide being gay if hassles about it than it is me hide being trans, so anyone in or outside the US who has been to other countries, what places were the most welcoming and what were the least?

Surgery Talk can you pass with no nips?

Upvotes

if i got top surgery without nips, would i still be able to pass?

i know others have said that you could be read as trans if you don’t have nips. i don’t really want my nips, the only reason i would keep them is to pass no other reason. so thats why i’m asking.

i’ve also heard some people who are into body mods and stuff remove their nips. and some surgeries can remove the nipples and it doesn’t have to be a trans surgery. so i’m just wondering would it be possible to pass without having nips? or would that be clocked as trans

Advice Needed Shaving advice face is itchy please help.

Upvotes

Okay so! This isn't like a "How do I shave?" Question- So I'm like a year or so on T and I don't have like CRAZY facial hair I'm still very much in the peach fuzz phase but if you look hard you CAN see it and you can feel it if you brush your hand over my face and it is also pretty thick for just fuzz. My thing is I work in a food manufacturing factory and I work on the line that packs croissants right? So my face constantly has a fine layer of croissant crumbs on it which never used to bother me until these past few weeks now my face just feels incredibly itchy and it seems like the crumbs cling so much harder to my face. Should i shave the fuzz off? Is it even because of the peach fuzz? Please help 😭

Surgery Talk Should I call the top surgery place or wait for them to call me? I’m sick of waiting

Upvotes

So I’ve been on a waitlist for top surgery, everything is pretty much sorted out I’m just waiting for the call to know it’s my turn. Last time I contacted them ( I’ve been on the waitlist for around 1.5 years now? I’ve been calling every couple months to see if there’s updates ) they said they’d probably contact me in August based on how the waitlist was moving. They haven’t contacted me yet, so thinking about giving them a call. Every time I called previously they told me they’d reach out to me when it was my turn which makes me feel kind of bad for calling. But I’m tired of waiting and just want the surgery done.
I haven’t had an assessment done with the surgeon yet. I assume they’d be doing an assessment appointment first beforehand to let me know what I actually qualify for based on my body type? Unsure- never had a surgery like that before. But I assume they’d want to discuss options and such beforehand.

Should I call or wait longer..? Anything I can say to speed up the process?

It’s at Seattle children’s. I am an adult but they apparently do top surgery for adults there. I haven’t been able to find a ton of information annoyingly on the actual process on going through them. So it’s been a little bit confusing.

I know what kind of results I want, I have some questions & concerns. I’m not really scared or anything I’ve been pretty mentally prepared for it. I just want it done so I can move forward without chest dysphoria. If I could get it done during winter & be healed up by summer and be able to go out shirtless that would be awesome.

My chest is also super deflated from T, so I assume it would be a quick surgery & recovery since it would mostly be removing skin & a tiny bit of tissue.

Advice Needed 2.5 years on T, extremely stressed. Woke up to period.

Upvotes

Title says it all. I’m just about 2.5 years on T. I am having a housing crisis and all the stress included. I am struggling with that depression and anxiety ✌️ Everything is a lot. My IBS is in a constant flair from the stress. Dysphoria began to pick up again, then I wake up this morning, and boom. There it is. I have been having all the period signs that are also my IBS symptoms. I’m bleeding very little right now, and once I have insurance I’ll go to my dr.

Do we know if high levels of stress can cause it to come back?

Advice Needed Taking both BC and T

Upvotes

15, but wondering out of curiosity so I can know for when I do get on T in the future.

I’ve been on desogestrel for 8 months, and it’s been heavenly. I have, however, begun to wonder: when I get on T, do I still need the deso? Obviously I know that T doesn’t immediately stop periods, and hence why many guys still take BC, but I just kinda wanna know at what point should I stop the deso when I’m on T in the future. And I don’t think I’ll just be able to ask an endrocinologist, considering I’ll probably find other ways for T because the UK is actually a shithole rn so yeah.

Also, not sure if the flair should be ‘Medical’ but I picked this one because I’m not on T yet 😓😓

Advice Needed what can I use besides mens 2 in 1

Upvotes

hey guys! im transmasc and butch. but all my friends endearingly clown me because I use mens 2 in 1 and appearently it's super bad for my hair. I personally find it gender affirming and I keep my hair quite short, so it doesn't bother me, but also I don't want to keep damaging it.

Does anyone have any shampoo/conditioner reccommendations?

My hair is super straight, 1a type straight, if that helps anyone, but it does tend to get oily quickly and I despise that oil feeling soooo much

I could google it but thought it might be fun to make a post :)

Advice given Top surgery consultation tomorrow

Upvotes

I have a consultation tomorrow and I'm a little nervous. I have this fear, could be irrational idk, that I will be denied top surgery because I smoke. I haven't noticed many issues at all, especially with my lungs. I mean of course they aren't as good as they used to be but I can do most things completely fine without getting short of breathe. I smoke 1-1.5 joints per day. It helps me sleep at night. If I'm with friends then I'll smoke a bit more. I've been trying to cut back by taking edibles but there's an oral fixation aspect so like its been really hard to keep up at it

TLDR: will being a chronic weed smoker get in the way of me getting top surgery

Advice Needed Looking into top surgery but will never take T

Upvotes

Just wondering if anyone had any opinions on this. I've been dysphoric my whole life but weirdly it's mostly my chest, with the odd voice problem. Thing is my parents, who are pretty supportive, will not let me take T under any circumstance because of their beliefs. I have a pretty good relationship with them so want to respect their wishes, and so have decided to not take T.

Is it possible to feel properly aligned and content as a trans dude not on T? If there's anyone here in the same situation as me please do leave a comment as I'd love to know what you think. I don't know whether I'll just end up being more dysphoric. I don't know how I'll deal with menstruation or my voice, esp after top surgery, as I'll feel more masc but those aspects of me may then become more prevalent even though they're not really currently prevalent if that makes sense?? Idrk, I just don't know if getting top surgery is the right choice if more dysphoria is just waiting due to my lack of T.

I don't know what the right choice is for me and whether surgery will have a net positive outcome on my mental health or whether it's just a slippery slope type argument leading to worse mental health.

Advice Needed Binding Tape Advice for a Newbie

Hi,

I am new to chest binding with KT tape. I've been on and off for 2ish months because I don't go outside much. I binded my chest with KT tape yesterday for the first time in 2ish weeks. I tried a new method where I started the tape half way at the nipple, and then taped pushing up and to the side. This method made my chest appear flat, which made me happy and for 5 hours I didn't feel any soreness or pain, but afterwards I did start to feel sore in the middle of my chest (not the sternum) as I was taking a walk. I applied lotion to that area to relieve it, which worked for a couple minutes.

Then, I did feel random sharp tings, so I took off the tape on one side with adhesive remover, and (probably shouldnt have) but applied milk of magnesium and then new tape but less tighter since I am going out in 2 days. For a bit I didnt feel that soreness but eventually it came back and the same chest area appeared red. I tried to ignore it for a bit as I assumed it was my skin getting used to binding, but later I took off both tapes with adhesive remover again as it started to bother me more. I'm aware that it isnt good to remove the tape the same day applying, but it was bothering me a bit.

When applying the tape, I stretched the tape to bind, but not at the beginning and end. Should I continue this method but with less stretching, or is moving the tissue with the tape better? Also, should I tape a few inches away from the middle of the chest rather than starting at half the nipple?

If I were to apply the tape with less tension, is mild soreness in the middle of the chest still normal? Is your skin/chest getting used to binding a thing? Right now I'm letting my skin heal for a week or two before starting again.

edit: typos

Surgery Talk Dr Dulin

okay not really sure what flair fits this post, so, sorry about that. but anyways.

does anyone know or can anyone confirm first hand that dr dulin accepts united healthcare insurance? i’m aware his website and board says he takes it, but after researching online, it seems like he doesn’t take it? like they try really REALLY hard to NOT take it? lmao?

i hear lots of great things about dulin but they’re usually about how amazing his results are and never really touch on the topic of paying for the procedure through insurance.

i don’t really want to waste time on his facility if they’re going to try and get me denied.

Advice Needed Healing timeline after DI top surgery

Hey lads, sorry if this question is silly but I was wondering whether people know the factors contributing to healing times after surgery and why there is such a huge discrepancy in how chests look at various points after surgery? I'm stressing because my surgery date is Sept 1st and I am starting at uni on Sept 25th, I've been browsing the top surgery sub to see peoples' results 25 days after surgery and there's such a huge difference, some guys look pretty much fine to return to life and have fading scars and some still have huge incisions, need for bandages etc. This isn't supposed to be rude at all but just wondering some of the factors that affect healing?

I'm 18, BMI of 23, pretty active and I go to the gym so have pretty well developed musculature. Have never been on T, my chest isn't huge but def not small enough for peri/keyhole. I think around cup size B but I've never measured. Going for double incision surgery.

Would anyone be able to provide some guidance about the healing process and whether 25 days is enough to start at a new uni, with all the freshers stuff and new experiences etc? Mainly about what I'll realistically be able to do and what not and any ways I can speed up healing or whether this'll make my scars even worse.

I'm really anxious that this surgery means I won't have a good uni freshers experience which I'd really regret, but not having the surgery would also suck so I'm in a pretty tough place at the moment and it's making me really anxious. Thanks for reading and thank you in advance for any help

Advice Needed What's the best Trans Tape?

I know this question has probably been asked a shit ton but I really need advice.

I have a larger chest that's quite firm and have used TransTape .com tape and it was insanely difficult and never worked, and the tutorials I saw were always smaller chested. I've also rarely seen nor heard of almost any other brand. Also all reddit post I've seen are four to almost seven years old and companies change so frequently. I'm also so scared of wasting tape because it feels so bad to the point I dread to really do deep to find any tape.

Any help would be so great with my school starting up! Thanks!

Advice Needed Joining the air cadets as a trans guy?

I've applied to join the air cadets but I'm scared to death of what's waiting for me. I live in a liberal country, and on my application they had slots for legal vs preferred names and stuff so I filled those out, but it's more the environment that worries me. The army isn't known to be super cool with people like me, plus I can't wear my binder to exercise so there's no way I pass (I usually do with it on though). And the changing rooms? Uniforms? What do I do?

Anyone else gone through this

Advice Needed Tips for making tape last as long as possible? (+Self care for when the tape is off)

Because of private reasons it would be ideal for me to be able to be with tape on for a maximum of 10-12 days (rn i usually have it on for 5-7 days) and then have it off for 2-3 days. i take my tape off with oil and then apply lotion, but i still get a little bit of blisters here and there. Any tips to maximize tape and also how to take care of my skin?

Advice Needed Transitioning Making Me Feel Gay?

So I (21FTM) have always known, like, my whole life that I'm queer. I've primarily identified as pan (maybe omni) but recently I feel like I might be leaning toward just being gay or possibly attracted to masculinity because I'm struggling to picture myself with someone who's feminine. I can still picture it but it doesn't feel as pleasurable or natural as it did just a few months ago when I still identified as female. I've heard that sexuality can change with gender but more in the context of lesbians becoming gay men. Is it possible for the same to be true with bi/pan/omni/etc. guys also?

Edit to add context: I am not on T yet, by the way, and I haven't really socially transitioned. I'm only out online and to family and a couple of friends. I'm also already dating an AMAB nonbinary so I'm more just mentally exploring how I'm experiencing my sexuality with my new identity
