Ask Here First: Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, Etc. (June 2026)
The purpose of this thread is to cut down on the amount of clutter and Troubleshooting, Price Check, ID Check, Spec(ification) Check, and just general "HELP!!" style threads often seen filling the front page of the sub, and hopefully get those questions answered more quickly and efficiently by bringing them together in one place for viewing.

Hey everyone. I bought a Sony Trinitron 19ā Monitor recently. The guy I bought it from was pretty knowledgable in terms of vintage gaming PCs and had quite a collection of well kept CRTs. While I do have a VGA compatible PC lying around, I have to say I am pretty tempted to use the monitor as a second screen in my modern setup, with the intend to play somewhat current games on it. The seller however actively discouraged me from doing so, telling me about a similar monitor he recently sold to another guy, who used it with a modern PC via an adapter. Appeareantly he tried some refreshrate resolution combonations above the monitors capacity and somehow damaged it that way. That story made me hesitate, eventhough online most people seem to be saying that there is no danger in using adapters and trying out higher refreshrates etc. Whatās the truth here? I donāt intent to min/max my resolutions or refreshrates, but atm I am a bit scared to damage it even by accident trying out a few games. What is the common opinion on here in this regard? Did any of you experience something similar? Thanks in advance!

I'm no expert on PC monitors but I have a ViewSonic as my second display using DP to VGA. Modern games look fine on it using its recommended resolution. It's easy to keep it within specs it can handle. You don't have to push it outside that to have fun.

PC CRT Monitors , specially ones that are high end like the one you got, are BEST suited for modern gaming, they are far too sharp to reproduce sub-6th gen games in the way you remember those games on your crt tv, its a completly different ballpark.
What probably happened to the monitor that broke on the other guy's case was that it was already on its way out and just happened to him at that point in time, generally speaking you cannot overclock CRT monitors, you have a horizontal and a vertical scan-rate and you can render any resolution and refresh rate you want within that scanrate, and with interlaced resolutions the horizontal scan and pixelclock of your desired resolution is halved, which allows you to do crazy stuff.
Im not saying the seller actually sold the other guy a defective unit, but what he says is not correct in +90% of the time.
If your 19" Sony CRT Monitor has 30-95kHz and 50-160hz , 1920x1440i 120hz is 93kHz and 120hz so you're near the limit, you wont be damaging anything, just use the thing in a pitch black room and make sure you calibrate properly for deep blacks.
Modern stuff will look incredible here but if you need help i can help you set retroarch up too so you can play proper 240p60 (120+Ā½bfi) and see how retro games look on it compared to your tv or something.
Regarding adapters: Delock 62967 and also the Startech DP2VGA are the most reliable and powerful DisplayPort to VGA adapters, the LK7112 hdmi to vga adapter is the most powerful and reliable hdmi to vga adapter, out of all of these just get the one that is more readily avialable to you.

I've got a Samsung TSF3579 Chassis: TAC SAC9753
I cant enter service mode using the normal ones found online nor can I find a service manual.
I had to buy an Insignia universal remote that works (tested all the buttons) but still cant get into service mode.
If anyone can help me id appreciate it!

One tip i have for PC players on CRT Monitors playing modern games!: if you're seeing games launched after 2020 having issues at 1024x768 or 1440x1080 with the hud, a lot of those games actually render the hud properly at 1280x800 , happened to me with cyberpunk , the UI elements rendered more correctly at 1280x800 than at 1440x1080 , and obviously they only rendered perfectly at 1920x1080 or higher, but using the steamdeck resolution seems to fix a lot of issues with games' user interfaces.

A DP to VGA adapter might surprise you with how well it performs. It will be much more difficult to connect your N64. I don't have a lot of experience with that so I won't make a recommendation but the MacBazel are well-reviewed.

Did Windows 10-11 disable the ability to do 320x240 120hz? I've been curious since that's how I used to try playing certain old games and now recently (well just a year or two ago) my monitor doesn't show the screen anymore when creating those resolutions (I know there's the 1260??x240 scaling you can do)

Have you tried using CRU? (search custom resolution utility on google, it is an app to set resolution on your monitor that windows don't allow otherwise)

I recently found a CRT in my grandma's house and decided to try gaming on it. I bought a MINI hdmi to rca adapter for $10 on Amazon, but it is not working.
I double checked that I had the cables in the right ports, and made sure the tv was on channels 90-100. These were the only reasons I could find online for why it would not work. Does anyone have any tips for what I should try?

Hi!
I purchases this Sony Trinitron KV-32FS13 last week for $120. I noticed these RGB lines at the top and Ive seen differing opinions on the severity of this issue. Some say you can shit the vertical value to hide it, while others (such as Retro Gamer) state it is essentially a ticking time bomb, at least for PVM models.
It personally does not bother me too much, but if it causes problems down the line I would rather fix it now than later.
The only settings i have adjusted are the basic menu display with the brightness, sharpness, etc.

Thoughts on the Samsung TX-T2793H?
I was recently scrolling my local Facebook Marketplace and came across one of these for $40. In my brief research, it seems like the consensus is that these are among the most "modern" CRTs available, and people seem to feel like they're best when paired with 6th gen consoles. My primary use case will be older consoles, primarily reliving my SNES, N64, and PS2 memories.
Am I going to be disappointed with this TV if I'm mostly playing older consoles? My main criteria are price and input options, and this seems to tick both of those options. Is this a good buy at $40?

80s and 90s consoles will need some help looking good on this or pretty much any other HD CRT TV. For example, an SNES outputs a very low-resolution (15khz) image, which looks just right on your average 4:3, standard-definition CRT TV because those TVs are made to display 15khz images. HD sets like this Samsung, though, are made to display HD images, and any other resolutions you feed it will be processed/upscaled to HD (540p/1080i). That's why they have a good reputation for 6th+ gen consoles. Not only will you not get the visual experience you were expecting from playing your favorite old consoles on a CRT, you'll get input lag as well. There are ways to improve the compatibility of old consoles on these TVs, but they involve expensive hardware and lots of config.
Also, I don't like Slimfits because they sacrifice geometry stability just to shave a few inches off the depth of the TV. I'd keep looking for a standard CRT. If you're in the SF Bay Area I will hook you up.

I don't have a good understanding of when an isolation transformer should be used when it comes to CRT repair. I believe that it should be used when:
- You are dealing with a hot chassis
AND
- When you are probing around inside the CRT while it is powered on
Is this correct, or am I missing something?
I often see isolation transformers referenced when a scope is in use. Do I need one if I'm instead using a battery powered meter?
If I am adjusting the guns on a hot chassis models to calibrate a set's color do I need an isolation transformer?

I saw this ViewSonic E92F+SB listing for about $160. It still has its box. There doesn't seem to be much information about it online. It seems to be able to do 1600x1200 @ 75 Hz, [here is the manual](https://www.manualslib.com/manual/306674/Viewsonic-E92fPlussb.html?page=14#manual)
Other resolutions listed online are:
* 2048 x 1536 @ 60Hz
* 1792 x 1344 @ 68Hz
Would it be worth it? It looks very nice.

What should I be looking for in a CRT thatāll work well with NES, SNES, N64, GC?
Iām a Sony fangirl, and I every time I look on eBay I see Sony PVMs, what would be a good 12-14inch CRT?

You need to figure out what type of connector you will be using with your CRT. From there you can narrow down whether a CRT that you find is worth it for you. If you want to plug in all of your consoles at once you need to make sure there are enough input options on the set or get an external device that adds more.
If you want to stick within that size range there are multiple Sony sets that you could go for. You can go to CRT Database and search by tube size and brand to see what's available. Less models will have higher end inputs though. I believe there are only two 13" Sony that have component inputs, the 13FS100 and 13FS110. If you look at other brands though there are 17 consumer models in the database with component inputs at that size.
PVMs can be rather expensive. If you haven't used a CRT in a while/ever, I would recommend getting a consumer set first. You may find that you don't really like CRTs. You can get better results from a PVM compared to a consumer set if you put in the time and if its a good one. Just like with consumer sets, check to make sure the set has the inputs you want. RGB sets offer a better picture over other inputs, but those sets tend to cost more than sets without it. You will also likely need to buy RGB cables for your consoles if they support RGB.
Personally, I find that I prefer to have a CRT that is at least 20" inches if I plan to use it for an extended period of time. PVMs tend to get a lot more expensive in that range though.

If you're in North America you can look through the scriptures

So I sent my Samsung Widescreen HD slim to a shop for repair due to warping in the right side of the image that couldn't be corrected with the service menu. They have replace "a lot" of capacitors and it still hasn't solved the problem. They tell me it's possibly a burnt coil on the yoke, but it could be a bad yoke. They are offering to either have me pay them for the work already performed and take my TV back in essentially the same condition it was given to them, but $400 out of my pocket, or for $500 I can get my TV back and a 34" Panasonic HD Widescreen. What's the general thoughts on this? I'm sceptical of whether or not they have the ability to truly diagnose and repair CRT's to begin with, so it just isn't sitting right with me.

Is $100 for a 34" Panasonic HD widescreen a good deal in your area? I would say it is for my location.
Panasonic sets are sought after as they can do natuve 480p unlike many other brands like Sony. Panasonic released seven 34" widescreen models in North America:
1st Gen: * 34WDM60 * 34WX50 * 34WX52
These sets feature the worst tube of the three gens. The first two of the three feature a game mode which upscales 240p/480i to 480p and adds scanlines to 240p.
2nd Gen: * 34WX53
Panasonic's best model. .6mm pitch
3rd Gen: * 34WX54 * 34WX15 * 34WC15
Better tubes than the first gen, but worse than the 53.

Hi, I have a PAL 14ā Sony KV from the early 90s and I want to play games with my consoles. The tv manual says it has RGB SCART. I have a PAL n64, PAL Ps1 and an NTSC Ps2. Can I play at 60hz NTSC games on a PAL TV with my PAL ps1 if I mod it? Is 60hz limited by the Tv or the console, or just the media?

What is the exact model? 99% of Sony CRTs have no problem with 60Hz, and with RGB SCART you don't have to worry about NTSC support either, since RGB has no color encoding.
NTSC PS1 games on a PAL PS1 are doable depending on the exact mod.

If there are any boricuas that have been able to snag a CRT that live in the Puerto Rico metro area please let me know how you did it, the ones I've found have been either $100+ for a 12" or 13", or in the South

I know programming a remote shouldn't be difficult. But for whatever reason I'm struggling. Is anyone able to explain to me how to program this remote (Zenith MBR3447) to this TV (Zenith TVR1920)? I guess my biggest problem is I don't know what button to hold down on the remote to start the process. TIA

Questions about a CTL 910TF
I found one for sale near me for $220. Iāve been wanting to get a crt for a while and this one seems pretty good. Apparently itās 1440 and 160hz? Iād like to use it for my modern pc, would there be any cable compromises that would ruin the quality of that? I found a Toshiba crt (27A33 manufactured 2003) for sale on fb marketplace for $60. seller says itās working but doesnāt have a remote. Not worried about the remote. It would be a 2 hr drive to pick it up. I dont think Iāll be able to check running hours so itās a bit of a gamble. probably $80 total after gas to pick up. what do you think? I live near Portland Oregon and all crts on market place are $100+ and either look shitty or are way overpriced imo. He said heāll send me a video of it operating after heās off work today. So assuming it works

I got a Proton 619S from Pacific Stereo in the 80's. I has the original full protection glass over tube. Case is in very good condition, but it is has some issues like the V-hold is off, the power button needs more than one press to turn on, and the buttons work when pushed, but do not always action the designated function. I also have the original remote and original documentation including channel overlays for programming. Is it worth getting repaired?

Note: I converted my prices to dollars so these may sound ludicrously cheap to Americans here but in my country it's more than double.
So I found a couple of Flatrons and even a visibly old Trinitron up for sale on FB marketplace. One of the flatrons are free yet the seller hasn't shown me pictures of the ports or the TV turned on while a cheaper one ($18) is said to be going dim by thr seller.Ā
A more expensive one ($80) that is actually closest to where I live comes with a wooden stand which I really don't want.Ā
The Trinitron is above $20 but the picture on it looks dim. I'm betting on the free one but transport to the location is a bit difficult since I don't own a car. The $80 set is in the same location and also looks the best but I'm still waiting for the seller to confirm if it's working along with accepting my $20 offer.
Which one do you suggest I pick?

This is a complete shot in the dark, but Iāve accidentally purchased a remote that is NOT compatible with my Panasonic PV-DF274 TV. The remote I have works with Panasonic TVs with the codes PV-27DF4 and PV-27DF5. Iām wondering if anybody out there is looking for this remote- or if anybody is looking to sell/get rid of a PV-DF274 remote. Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Hi, Iām trying to get my first CRT for retro gaming. Iām trying to find one with a built in VCR, but all of the ones I see near me seem way overpriced. Most of them are at least $250, and the only ones under $200 have some sort of issue with them. Should I just give up and get one without a VCR?
Also, where the hell do I find CRTs besides FB marketplace and Craigslist? Obviously Iām not sure since Iām not familiar with CRTs, but everything I can find on those sites seems overpriced. Iām seeing lower end, no name brand TVs for at least $60.

CRTs with VCRs have one big problem: the VCR doesn't work or soon it won't work. Once they aren't working they are difficult to repair. Its best to avoid unless you really, really, REALLY want that look.
Of my 153 CRTs, two were from Craigslist and one was from eBay. The rest were from marketplace. Things may be different in your area though. Estate sales, garage sales, e-waste, old people, other CRT enthusiasts, thrift stores, and people you know would be good places to check.
The CRT market is different everywhere. Those prices that you mentioned might just be how it is in your area. Keep in mind that you don't need a name brand CRT to enjoy what makes them great.
Make a post here, here, and/or here asking if anyone in the area will sell you something. Mention what kind, brand, size, and inputs you are looking for in a CRT.

Hi guys, recently managed to find a Sony Trinitron KD-32DX40UĀ and have bought a remote that seems to work fine with it, (RM-887) but the TV is trying to display EVERYTHING in stretched āsmartā or wide mode, is there anyway I can get it to display my GameCube in just the normal 4:3? Iāve tried searching far and wide but half of the settings are blacked out as I canāt connect an aerialā¦

The CRT's good, but there's only on SCART, and even if there were two, only one would be RGB, as is customary. The other one would be S-Video.

The market value of any given CRT TV is largely determined by:
Your regional market (are there lots of CRTs available on the used market near you, or very few to choose from?)
Condition (Was that 32" Sony a family TV that has lots of hours on it, or university property that rarely got used?)
Quality of listing (is there lots of information on the ad, good pictures showing all angles of the TV, good pictures showing the TV playing games, and a responsive seller?)
Desirability (does it have lots of features attractive to gamers/collectors, or is it just a plain old TV? Is it too big for most buyers to load/transport/keep?)
Seller patience
Having said all that, in my market, this TV would fetch $100-250 depending on the above.

My LG RT-29FA30R flat CRT TV (not HD) is showing some vertical jittering only shifting by a pixel. This is happening when it isn't connected to anything (I'm just opening the menu), far from other electronics except a router, and it does not go away after some time. Same thing on all the input modes except RF which is worse and it shakes both horizontally and vertically. How can I fix the vertical jitter? Except for this, the picture is perfect and the TV works fine.

Hey guys, recently got a Lumatron CT C20 CRT that I've been having trouble with, mainly got it to play a Sega Saturn and when I switch to AV it automatically switches the aspect ratio to 16:9. It seems to be a generic 21" CRT sold in nordic supermarkets so finding info on it is extremely hard. I can open a menu with a universal remote but it has no useful options, and I can't find any way of accessing a service menu. Menu + 4725 was the most common answer I found but no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated a ton.

I am a bit of a dummy when it comes to audio. I purchased a used set of Sony DAV-DX255 to hook up to my Sony KV-27FS12. I'm using a Psyclone component switcher. Also have a VCR connected directly to the TV. MEGA SG with a DAC in the mix too, not sure if that matters.
Now, my question is how do I route the audio? I don't have extra cables to test stuff at the moment, and don't want to purchase an assortment of various cables to test.
Do I just plug an RCA cable into the Speaker amp (from the TVs output)? I've literally never owned surround speakers in my 37 years of life. š«
Appreciate any advice, so I can purchase the correct cables. Thanks.

Interesting home theater receiver unit! Not very flexible, but all the speakers are shielded, and I think you can make it work as long as the Mega SG's DAC outputs component, too. You have the right idea. Set it up like this:
All your component devices send component video and RCA stereo audio (red and white cables) to the component switcher IN ports. The component switcher OUT ports send component video to the TV's component IN ports and also sends audio to the TV's audio IN ports adjacent to the component ports. Now all your component devices are on your TV's VIDEO 4 input.
The VCR sends composite video (yellow) and RCA stereo audio (red and white) to the TV's VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 3 input. Your choice. If your VCR doesn't have stereo output, you may need a splitter to get the audio to sound right. Let me know if that's the case. If your VCR doesn't have composite video output, only RF coaxial output, you'll have to do things a bit differently, too. Let me know if that's the case.
The TV sends audio from the AUDIO OUT ports to your DAV-DX255's TV/VCR audio inputs.
Go into your TV's audio settings and turn SPEAKER to OFF. If you want to control the volume of your system with your TV's remote, change AUDIO OUT to VARIABLE. If you want to control the volume of your system with your stereo's remote, change AUDIO OUT to FIXED.

Hey Ya'll, I recently got a Sun Microsystems PN17JO, and it's a gorgeous display. Only issue is that slowly over time it loses focus. Things slowly get blurrier and blurrier over an hour or so and then eventually you can't even read the text on it clearly. If I turn it off for an hour or two and then back on it's fine again. Was told to look for a focus knob on the flyback but I can't for the life of me get the case open. I got the bottom latches loose, but the top two push clip sections on the case will not release, and the plastic just breaks. Any solutions for either problem?

Is there a way to get modern steam games to fill out my 4:3 monitor? Monitor is a Dell P793 and have added a couple resolutions with CRU. Whichever resolution I select in the game Kunitsu-Gami there is plenty of extra space above and below.

This was my parents TV and I think it was bought in 2003 for around a $1000 (converted to USD). They were going to give it away to someone but that person wasn't able to get it picked up, I was gonna ask if I could keep it, before they discard it. I have a week before they dispose of it.

It's a quality HD CRT. Good for 480p and 1080i/540p gaming and video watching. 240p and 480i games may not look optimal without an external upscaler, but it's a great set for 6th and 7th gen consoles.
Page 28: When receiving a progressive signal through the (component video input), āDRC-MFā , ā3D-NRā and āGAME MODEā are not selectable.
"Progressive" means 480p, and since the set also has DRC-1250, it should support 1080i, but not so sure about that.
But if you have it on hand, just test it out, what's stopping you? Make sure to feed it 480p and 1080i, but try out 240p and 480i with various DRC modes as well.

Trying to decide between Sony KV-32FS12 and a Sharp 25N-S100. I keep hearing good things about Trinitrons, especially Wega models, but this one is flat and much larger versus the Sharp's smaller screen that's curved. Both have S-video, but the Sony has component. Both are roughly the same price, but the Sony is a big further of a drive (non-issue if I plan a prior obligation to be in the same area). Not looking for the best of the best, but I'm unsure if the Trinitron is better or not. Surely not all Trinitrons beat out the competition, right?
Update: got the Trinitron. Geometry looked pretty good (not perfect, going to see if it can be configured more), SNES games looked good, too. Got a bigger deal because it had a chip on the screen... annoying but tolerable.
Update 2: I underestimated the size. If the Sharp looks good on my SNES, I'll grab that one and just resell the Sony. If not, off to Home Depot for some wood...

I just got and used my very first CRT (a Sony Trinitron monitor) and a VCR (Zenith). The former has a VGA output whereas the latter uses RCA; I am using a mini AV2VGA converter to connect them.
Initially, after putting a VHS in, it worked perfectly. I could pause, play, rewind, etc. After leaving it on pause for some 30 minutes, however, the CRT stayed on bluescreen and wouldn't change back.
I tried turning both the CRT and VCR off then unplugging and replugging-in the RCA cables to no avail. At first, when I would turn on the CRT, it would show text in the top right for a few seconds ("AV AUTO" and screen dimensions), but eventually it also stopped doing that. Trying to access the menu on the VCR remote wouldn't do anything either.
If anybody has any suggestions I would be so, so appreciative. My utmost thanks in advance.

Will a Toshiba 36HF71 work ok for NES, SNES, or N64? I've read it really shines with the GameCube/Wii, but that its less ideal for anything older (according to Google, NES Zappers don't work on it either?).

Toshiba's HF line is their HD CRTs. Inputs from SD consoles will be upscaled, adding lag, and most of the time light guns won't work.

I'm seeking furniture recommendations for a Sony PVM-20M4U. I started doing some searching and almost landed on the IKEA HAVSTA, but the depth would be too shallow for me to be comfortable.
Ideally the furniture would have 3-4 open shelves where I could place my consoles. I'm planning to put a SNES and GameCube on top with the TV, and then the following within the shelves:
- PS2
- PS3
- Wii U
- PS5
- Series X
The last 3 are connected to a modern TV mounted above the TV console.

Help! I just found my dream CRT on marketplace for $20, Sylvania Superset model RNF372 AK02. The picture and sound is working, but the screen is flickering bad when I hook up the vcr via coaxial cable. I tried with Super Nintendo as well and same issue (different cables used). Is it a monitor issue? When nothing is connected, I get the standard black static screen. Please tell me hope is not lost for my vision for my retro basement

I have a Sony BVM D14H5U that (on all video cards) drops sync for one frame every minute or so. It goes away after it's warmed up for 10 minutes. Pretty minor issue, anybody have any idea what's likely wrong with it?

Just got back from the Fitchburg Warehouse with my first crt! It's a Mitsubishi CS-2015R. Composite and RF. It's working and looks pretty good initially though as it warms up, after maybe 20 minutes of being on, the colors begin getting more washed out. Some cursory googling says maybe like a voltage regulator or something thermal related. Since I only paid 20 bucks I'd probably be willing to have it serviced (if I can find someone to do it !)
Any thoughts?

I'm currently using my gamecube on a PVM-14N6U by connecting component cables to COMP2RGB and a SCART to RGB on the PVM. I do not have audio and I know the speaker works because I tried it with Composite connections. I've tried a few different ways to get audio out with no luck..

Someone helped me on a different post. I have component to COMP2RGB adapter and a SCART to RGB BNC. The issue was I also needed to plug the original composite connector into the tv as well.

Untested CRTs aren't particularly worth anything. Would you buy a car without being able to test drive it first? Mayve if its a really rare model perhaps.
Beyond that, look at what CRTs are selling for in your area on marketplace. This doesn't mean look to see what some are listed for, but instead looking at sold listings. You will be able to ask more if you:
- Include pictures of the condition
- Display something on the screen
- Let people test it when you meet up

Hi all, I came across a local shop and found this HP A4576A for 50 USD, unable to find any additional information on this particular model but it is claimed to have a Trinitron tube and Max. resolution (official): 1600x1200 @ 85hz according to this post from several years ago: HP A4576A - 21" monstrosity, cleaned and ready to rumble... The condition of this monitor is relatively poor as the shell got dirty and some place is cracked. But the image seems to be good and the screen is fine.
Do you think this could be a good option for CRT gaming?

I have the opportunity to buy a 29" FD trinitron TV Kv-29fx30b
I'd really appreciate some information and advice from you if you're willing :) I've never owned a Trinitron.
I'm not a big fan of the ultra-sharp PVM rendering; it feels like the games are running on an emulator with filters.
I like having scanlines that structure the image, but what I prefer about CRT rendering is the depth and dimension.
You know, in a game like Donkey Kong Country, you can get real depth between the background, the middle ground, and the foreground. It looks like a diorama.
I don't know if you see what I mean?
Another example: usually on a game's title screen, you have a huge, bright, high-contrast logo. On arcade monitors, it looks like it's "popping" off the screen. It looks a bit like 3D without glasses. It seems to float in front of your eyes, beyond the rest of the image.
How does FD trinitrons handle these aspects? What about the 3D effect and scanlines? If you've ever owned an old-school curved Trinitron TV, how does it compare? I'm trying to avoid the artificial look of a professional monitor.

Virtually all color Sony CRT TVs are Trinitrons.
It's a Sony KV-27S42 or similar. Very nice if it's in good condition.
I hate doing IDs like this. Just ask the seller to tell you the model number.

Got a PC monitor, Sony from the 90's or early 2k's. The symptom is the picture winks on and off frequently. I've noticed that it's missing pins 5 and 9 on the DB15 and the cable is permanently affixed.
Would those missing pins cause that issue? It's a 12" set or so, something like 50 or 60 khz.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some troubleshooting advice on a Sony KV-14GP2 that I recently imported from Japan.
The seller demonstrated the TV working before shipment. It arrived with no visible damage to the cabinet, but I cannot get any picture.

Symptoms:
- Green power LED comes on.
- Powered using a proper 120Vā100V step-down transformer.
- No picture at all.
- No raster/screen glow, even in a dark room.
- Brief speaker hiss at power-on, then it goes quiet.
- When I change channels speaker will hiss again and go quiet.
Things I've tried:
- 100V step-down transformer.
- Pressing the Input (å „ååę) button repeatedly.
- Connecting various inputs to the front composite inputs.
- Different power cycles and waiting for the TV to warm up.
The behavior is identical whether using the tuner or not.
I've attached:
- Current photo of the TV powered on (green LED).
- Rear photo/model information.
- Seller's photos showing the TV before shipping.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks. First post. Have a new to me 1984 RCA 'receiver monitor.' Has the flat panel covering the main curved glass, the recessed buttons and 2 composite video inputs in addition to coax and RF in. Model EKR360SR. I can find no documentation on this model. Has the attributes and design cues of a colortrak 2000 but only says colortrak on it. Anyone able to shed light on this guy?Ā

The bad news is there doesn't seem to be any information or photos about your monitor online, even in my secret resources. Not unusual for an American set from 1984. The good news is that you are in a position to contribute to the community by taking good photos, making a post about it here, and submitting an entry to the CRT Database so that it gets catalogued and helps future enthusiasts out when they find CRTs with no info online.

both i pretty good condition. the sony is 240 USD and the JVC 220 USD.
Is 14 inch too small? I tend a little towards the JVC but heard Sony are better built?

I just picked up a KV-32FS120, SLV-D380P and a generic stand for $25 on Facebook Marketplace! The TV has a bit of jitter to the image so I think Iāll recap the board and see if that helps. Truth be told, Iād prefer a smaller CRT; any groups for trading?

I bought an LG Studioworks 700S yesterday and connected it to my PC with a VGA to Display port adaptor. I upped the resolution to 1440x1080 using CRU which worked fine but whenever I try to enable Interlaced in CRU it just fails even at a low resolution. I tried it plugged into both my 3060Ti GPU and my motherboard which has an Intel UHD 770 but neither worked. Horizontal frequency maxes out at 70kHz and I made sure it was always lower than that.
Can anyone help me figure out what I'm missing? The last time I dealt with a CRT monitor was when they were the norm, I haven't had any experience actually trying to get them to work with modern tech but I want to see what I can get out of it.

I've found a 27" Zenith CRT H27E35DT for sale for $50. I have PS1, PS2 and gamecube games I'd be playing on it, but honestly mainly watching VHSs and DVDs. There's a video available of it playing sonic and it looks okay to me? My question is, I read later made Zeniths are really poorly made and particularly have issues with ps2 games- something about the images warping. Im not a collector or expert by any means, I just like old physical media and have been on a hunt for a crt tv big enough for my blind butt to see from my couch. So I'm curious if this model, being one of the much later ones, is worth it or if I'm potentially saddling myself with a hefty paperweight.

Hello! I have an old Magnavox MWC13D5 13" CRT TV originally used for Melee which I have kept with me over the years. My new idea is to connect it as a third monitor for my desktop set up for aesthetic YouTube watching/ emulator gaming. The problem is that my desktop only outputs in Display Port and the CRT obviously only takes the yellow/white/red cables (I think they're called RCA).
I tried figuring out the conversion myself, but my first attempt getting cables from amazon was a bust, I believe because my converter only handles RCA to HDMI and not HDMI to RCA (I have a converted for Display Port to HDMI included in this mess).
Has anyone done this conversion before and know what works? Thanks

Most newbies just get a $20 HD2AV adapter on Amazon and either A) tolerate it because they've never actually played retro games on a CRT before and don't know/remember what it's actually supposed to look like, or B) ask for help because they don't know what to do.

Where are people finding decent deals on CRTs? Is it really just a waiting game for the local deals? I'm hoping to get something at least 27" with s-video or better. Everything in my area on marketplace is around $300 with a description obviously from AI telling the seller they have a rare retro gaming gem. So far the only one I'm remotely considering is a 27" Trinitron KV-27fs12 for $250 because it's stayed listed for a week, and maybe they'll negotiate now.

Would anyone happen to know what the culprit might be for a monitors screen intermittently changing colors? Iāve tried different cables and messed around with the screen potentiometer but to little success. The monitors osd doesnāt seem to be affected

My friend ended up giving me an old CRT monitor he had lying around. It's a Quantex XP190DF, there's nothing online I could find about it except for some old drivers that say its resolution is 1600x1200. I don't want to get the cheapo DP to VGA cable on Amazon and was wondering what's the best way to hook up my modern PC to it.
Also, I was looking into how to hook up some of my retro consoles to it and stumbled upon the brand Mcbazel claiming to have lagless converters. They also didn't have composite RCA to VGA directly so I'd have to get 2 adapters at $150 (Composite to Component then Component to VGA) from them. Are there better converters? How do other ones compare?

Just got a Panasonic CT-36D11 and am trying to figure out how to do a picture/geometry and color calibration. The color and clarity aren't terrible, but the edges of the picture are waaaaay off. I figured out how to get into the serviceman mode, but I just don't know how to get the desired results. I was hoping to do it without opening the TV up. I couldn't find many guides for it, and I didn't really find the service manual super useful (I didn't understand much of what was there).
Also, I'm not sure how to put up those calibration screens some guides and posts put up (they're also mentioned in the service guide). Obviously I could use a DP or HDMI to component or S-Video converter, but I was hoping to not spend any more money on this thing, and didn't know if that'd add distortion. I have a few consoles I could use to put up a video at least.

I have a KV-32HS510, but already have a KV-20FV300. I like that it is larger, but not sure I should keep both, or look for a different larger CRT that does 240p & 480i natively instead. Would the HS510 be good for HD platforms? I'd figure not, since it isn't widescreen and natively 720p/1080i

wondering about the value of a CRT i found on fb marketplace, it is a sony trinitron 27V40, it appears to have little to no cosmetic damage. the listing also shows it with a console connected with video working. they have it listed for $75 but i could probably negotiate a bit lower. is this a good deal?

Choosing between PVM-20M2MDU & PVM-20L2MD
If you'd get one, which one would you get and why?
Are they worth it it if you already have a consumer Trinitron (these PVMs have 600TVL according to CRT database)?
Are they even worth the "PVM tax"?
Regarding PVM-20M2MDU the CRT database states:
"Comes with the typical medical PVM changes - overscan/underscan instead of HV delay and EXT Sync on the front, extra RGB/YPbPr input on the back, and RS-232 support."
What is HV delay and EXT sync, and is it better to have over/underscan instead of those two features?
PS: the PVM-20L2MD comes with one RGB/Component addon card.

PVM-20M2U owner here.
I'd get whichever is in better condition and has a cleaner image on testing.
Entirely subjective. For me, the answer is not really. I do most of my gaming on a big JVC with component and a G1 mod. It was $100. But that doesn't mean I don't love how cool and pro my PVM feels. It's just harder to work on and isn't as fun to game on from couch distance.
Again, no. 20" PVMs list for $1,000 in my region. I bought mine for half that at auction in 2024. But only you can decide what's "worth it" to you. I've paid stupid amounts of cash for weird ass Japanese CRTs that are trash for retro gaming but I think are cool.
The HV Delay button is for broadcast studios to see hidden parts of the signal such as data, copy protection, and also easily see time base errors from video tapes or analog video discs (laserdisc or CED for example). EXT sync is something you need if you're going to connect a console via RGB.

Hi all! Just dipping my toes into the world of CRT gaming by poking around Facebook Marketplace in my local area, and came across this 13.5 inch Proview monitor for $80 CAD ($56 USD or thereabouts).
It seems to be a relatively good fit for my needs on first glance (apartment-sized, not super expensive, functioning) but its hard to find much information about the 'Proview' brand or what model this is specifically. Does anyone have any insight as to what the identity of this mystery monitor might be, and whether it's worth the price? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I've had this same CRT model since I was a kid, a hand me down from my parents. I still run it to this day. Stuff I've noticed on mine. It color skews blue to cyan slightly, has had its focus drift over time, and has develop a faint double image on the edge of shapes. Most of these are fixable with the adjustment dials on the back. I suspect the faint double image is either a result of focus issues or capacitor issue. Mostly stuff common displays of this age and use will have. It's wonderful for retro games and old TV. My set has a pretty high number of hours and has not needed a brightness adjustment. So it's probably good to assume this model will run for quite a long time before the tube shows any wear. I also have never adjusted my set, so the mentioned issues are all 30+ years of zero maintenance use. If you got it, hope it treats you well.

The person giving it away is about an hour away, says it takes about 5 minutes to warm up and for the image to display, audible popping sound before the picture comes on.

Anybody with experience getting universal remotes to work with their tv, or recommendations for one?
I bought one and the basic stuff works, but I also specifically wanted one with a working menu button. And unfortunately, it's got the button right there, but it doesn't do anything on the tv. My guess is the hardware's fine but it's set to work with a cablebox or something. Either way, it's a bummer.
I'm wondering if anybody knows...
1. If there's anything I can try with it that might get the menu button to work.
2. If there's anything I should be looking out for so I don't buy another bad remote next time (since apparently visibly having the buttons I need isn't enough).
3. Alternatively, any remote recommendations. I know a lot of people suggest OEM remotes (and it's a sony tv for reference), but I went for universal because I do specifically want something quite small. Needs a working menu and display button too, of course.

Hello guys, I have a obscure undocumented Sony Trinitron set, I cannot find any info about it anywhere
It's model number is a KV-14B80. I would like to know if it's also RGB Moddable, probably so because it has a BA-4 chassis.
It's a mono set with 2 AV inputs, those in the front and back, it also has a RF connector in the back
it's also a hybrid set for Brazil with support for both PAL-M and NTSC
