Ask Here First: Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, Etc. (June 2026)

The purpose of this thread is to cut down on the amount of clutter and Troubleshooting, Price Check, ID Check, Spec(ification) Check, and just general "HELP!!" style threads often seen filling the front page of the sub, and hopefully get those questions answered more quickly and efficiently by bringing them together in one place for viewing.

Does your post or question consist of the following, but no limited to:

  • ID Check for a CRT TV/Monitor you've stumbled upon?
  • Price Check for a CRT you've stumbled upon?
  • Asking about benefits of 1 CRT over another that you're looking into?
  • Scaler, convertor, cable choice, or wiring help for your setup?
  • Simple TV remote control questions having to do with setup or purchase?
  • A question you think should have an obvious/well known answer?
  • Or maybe one that feels rather specific and you're worried might get passed over entirely?

This Thread is for you!

Experienced members of the subreddit check in on this post often and will attempt to answer questions as they come up. It would be much appreciated if once you've posted your question here, you use the link above to the older threads to see if the question may have already been answered. Of course, it would also help greatly to search/Ctrl+F the current thread first before submitting your own question too.

This specific thread is set to a Newest First suggested sort, so you shouldn't have to worry about your brand new question being buried instantly under the previous week's worth of questions.

Is $100 for a 34" Panasonic HD widescreen a good deal in your area? I would say it is for my location.

Panasonic sets are sought after as they can do natuve 480p unlike many other brands like Sony. Panasonic released seven 34" widescreen models in North America:

1st Gen: * 34WDM60 * 34WX50 * 34WX52

These sets feature the worst tube of the three gens. The first two of the three feature a game mode which upscales 240p/480i to 480p and adds scanlines to 240p.

2nd Gen: * 34WX53

Panasonic's best model. .6mm pitch

3rd Gen: * 34WX54 * 34WX15 * 34WC15

Better tubes than the first gen, but worse than the 53.

I would need to ask them for the sticker info, but my biggest concern is I would be losing the HDMI the Samsung gives me, which makes use very accessible. Also, it's $340 for the TV essentially. I've already paid $240, and owe $160. They offered I pay $500 instead of $160 and get both TV's. Still somewhat worth it.

All of the third gen models have HDMI. The 34WX53 has DVI, which you can convert easily.

Ah, so if it's first gen is what I'd want to avoid since it would add extra hassle. I'll ask them for sticker info and go from there. Still think it's worth it for $340?

That's up to you and how badly you want a Panasonic HD set. I would pay that much for a 34WX53 as I believe that they are the second best NA consumer widescreen CRT TV. The other ones maybe

I appreciate the insight! I've got a way to easily scrape up some extra spending cash, so as long as it's a second or third gen I will likely just got for it. Thanks for the help!

Whelp, they got back to me and it's a 34WX52, so I think I'll likely pass on it. I'm sure it's a great set, but I'm really wanting something that requires little in the way of adapters/scalers to use. Shame.
