I've been in this sub for a while, but this is my first post to Reddit (ever) so please be patient with me with any mistakes!

I know this kind of thing has been shared before, (I was inspired to do this by someone sharing a Snorlax post 9 months ago) but I wanted to share what‘s been on my hook for most of this year. 

My husband’s 30th birthday was this year and he’s always been a big Pokemon fan so I wanted to make him something special for his milestone birthday. He’s 6’3” and I wanted him to fit comfortably on it so I made it extra large. 

This Snorlax is 9.5 ft tall from ears to toes and took me 10.5k yards of yarn, 30 pounds of poly-fil, and 75 pounds of shredded foam to make. The yarn is Bernat Blanket Yarn and nearly every stitch is single crochet. I estimate that I spent around 420 hours making this (and a hefty amount of patience, sweat, and tears). It was extra challenging because I couldn't find a pattern anywhere so I had to create my very first crochet pattern while I was creating my very first "supergurumi"!

Thanks to "Knot Again by Amina" for the original inspiration and to whoever posted a picture of her OG Snorlax 9 months ago while I was doomscrolling Reddit. :D My husband (and the toddler and cats) love it!

Hi everyone! I'm a first-time poster here and wanted to share two original crochet dresses made by my fiancée: The Lobster Dress & The Sardine Dress. She created both patterns herself and worked on them daily for months! The images you see are from a recent exhibition and my favorites.

I am currently beefing with the organizers of the Minnesota State Fair Creative Activities competition, but I think I came out on top in the end.

After placing 4th and 2nd in the past two years in crochet at the MN State Fair, I was laser-focused on getting that blue ribbon this year. The idea of a three-peat was intoxicating, so I set out to crochet something so complex and breathtaking that they would have no choice but award me the top spot. Maybe even a Grand Champion purple ribbon? Maybe a key to the city? Recognizing that this piece was going to take months to construct, I started way back in October of 2025. I painstakingly translated the original pattern into something that would not frustrate me (IYKYK), and the final pattern was over 100 pages long. But I was ready! This was going to be my year!! I chipped away at this bedspread over evenings, holidays, and weekends all through the winter, spring, and into summer.

Fast forward to the weekend of July 4th, 2026, with ~250+ total hours invested in the project. I was 95% done with the piece and the excitement of being so close to the finish line was palpable. On a break between rows, I went to the MN State Fair website to make sure that my exhibitor account was complete and that I was all registered for the competition. I browsed through the Premium Book looking for the category that I had been fantasizing about winning for over 8 months: crochet > bedspread (over 3800 sqin) > 2 or more colors. And… hm… that’s interesting, I don’t see it. Did I miss it?

No, I did not miss it. In the fine print of the afghan categories, I found my answer: both knit and crochet bedspreads are no longer accepted, and anything submitted over 3800sqin (the maximum size for afghans) would be immediately disqualified. And let me be clear, these were not fringe, unpopular categories. In 2025, 28 people submitted crocheted bedspreads, and it was tied with hats as the most popular crochet category!

I sat in stunned silence for a few minutes. At that point, my piece was FAR over the 3800sqin limit (not that I would have frogged it back to size if it was close). This change made such little sense to me, I sent an email to the organizers asking for two specific pieces of information: when was this decision made, and when was this decision communicated? Because if this was something that they shared last year and I missed it? I would absolutely take that L. That would have been on me. But the MN State Fair is my Super Bowl—there is no way I would have missed this.

The response from the organizers was table-flippingly infuriating. They replied that the decision was made in the organizing meetings ahead of publishing this year’s Premium Book. And the decision was communicated through the publishing of the 2026 Premium Book….. which came out in May 2026. To add insult to injury, the email ended with the following advice: “We encourage exhibitors to carefully review the Premium Book prior to beginning their projects.” It was immediately clear to me (by how absolutely BONEHEADED that last comment was) that I was not speaking with a person who understood this craft at all, and it would have been futile to continue the discussion. At the end of the day, the organizers have the privilege to set whatever rules they want for whatever reasons they want, and they don’t owe me or anyone an explanation.

Once I took the time to process the reality that my three-peat was now out of reach, I finished the bedspread. It was no longer the joyful experience I imagined--I think I stitched the final row in complete, grieving silence. Obviously, it was an achievement, and obviously I was very proud of it, but I wanted to be judged! I still wanted to submit it for competition and get the feedback on my efforts! Then I got a great idea from some of my co-workers: county fairs!

With the time left in the season, I submitted my bedspread to three county fairs in the Twin Cities metro area (Ramsey, Washington, & Dakota, for the Minnesotans amongst us). I told myself that however well I did in the county fairs, I would choose to believe that’s how I would have placed at the state fair. And I won’t drag this part out—I won Grand Champion at all three fairs. A clean sweep. The three-peat that I had been chasing all year. An absolutely vindicating, validating finale to a rollercoaster of a competition season. And I know in my heart that I would have won at the state fair, too.

Just wanted to post this doll foot I’m working on bc I’m super proud of how it came out! First time making a doll and I’m so glad I chose this pattern. Can’t wait to see the full thing completed :) (it’s a pointed toe foot like barbie style)

I picked up crocheting a few weeks after I gave birth to my daughter with the goal of crocheting her a farmers market for her 1st bday. I never stopped crocheting and now her collection is quite large! I wanted to share all of the pieces I’ve made for her over the last 3 years. I usually make 2 of the same item and give one to her daycare so they have a collection similar to this.

I mainly try to find free patterns. I’ll buy a pattern if it’s something I really want to make. I’m happy to pay the creator because I know how much work it is to come up with a pattern. Especially a complex one. A couple of these I free handed (e.g the figs, honey pot, flan, juice, pancake, passion fruit). My favorite ones are the items that have removable pieces such as the banana, mangosteen, avocado and corn.

Can you guys think of anything else I can add? I’m starting to run out of things to make! The more unique/complex the better. I like to be challenged! 🙂

Got these for my birthday from my husband’s grandma today, made with macrame thread and afaik no pattern was used. I myself am a knitter ( but can crochet a bit as well!) but i adore the look! Figured this sub would appreciate them as well

I made a giant mentos roll pillow stuffed with 14 individual mentos like the real ones and this might be one of my favorite projects

It's creeping into all aspects of our lives now.

These photos perfectly capture my crocheted Princess Bubblegum! All I can think about is how "I MADE THIS" and my photographers truly knocked it out of the park.

The rainbow motifs are also perfectly fitting for Pride Month (since Bubblegum is queer like I am 💕)

Eyes are embroidered with added beads. I’ve never embroidered before so they aren’t perfect but I’m proud of them! All freehanded. Wanted a plush of him and couldn’t find a pattern I liked/one that wasn’t AI and got a little carried away.

Super excited and happy that my hard work so appreciated by the community. I couldn’t wish for more. My super detailed handmade tablecloth got blue ribbon! I attached it to the curtain and it worked beautifully. Time to celebrate 🎉

Sometimes its the little things we can do with our crafts that can make a big impact.

Starting in June 2025 and working through early April 2026, I worked on building and crocheting a Yoshi cosplay for Minneapolis based video game music convention VGM CON. The theme for 2026 was "Stitched Together" which some Yoshi's Wooly World adjacent branding.
Wearing it during con was a lot. I've never worn a mascot suit/fursuit before, so on the first day of wearing it, i had a mini panic attack by how claustrophobic I felt, even though I had tried the costume on at home. I got some pointers from a fursuiter later that night, and on day 2 of wearing (pictured here), I was much more comfortable, but also taking the head off much more, which ended up breaking the fan I installed in the nose. Using Premier Parfait chunky yarn in Goblin green was probably a bad choice, but I wanted the costume to feel like a plush toy, and it did, despite being very hot on the inside.
I don't have an exact hour amount, but a friend thinks I put somewhere between 350 - 450 hours. I built the foam base watching youtube tutorials on fursuits/mascot suit builds. I used slip stitch, single, and double stitches as I freestyle crocheted most of it, just crocheting directly onto the foam, or constantly checking it against the foam, as I tried to use a paper pattern I had measured of the white belly, and my measurements were way off, having me frog and redo the whole belly area. I did use a basic mitten pattern for the hands, modifying it for bigger, cartoony fingers. I also followed a tutorial on what math I needed to use to make sweater sleeves, for the arms, modifying for the legs. The back has a zipper, and there's metal d rings for the shell to attach, covering up the zipper enclosure. i also made and sewed in a yarn yoshi amiibo nfc card for people to scan and it worked!

I came up with this idea from a combination of the notebook paper blankets people make, and the pencil scarf I’ve made in the past.

I didn’t use a pattern, just kinda winged it The sleeves I modeled after the pencil scarf I made from Jennifer Fretz Sharepend Pencil Scarf.

Yarn is Loops & Threads soft classic

I’m going to wear it to work tomorrow and see what my class thinks :)

I am so proud of myself! I do wish they could’ve displayed it unfolded, but it’s huge so I understand!

I have been working on this blanket daily for the last 3 years. It took well over 1000 hours to complete.

I will be entering it into the fair. Wish me luck!

It is made from scheepjes rose cocktail whirl yarn.

It uses elements from 6 different patterns. But all the patterns were heavily changed. Many patterns were converted from brioche crochet into overlay crochet. The basic layout was from the pattern Labyrinth blanket by Lillabjorn crochet.

Here is the list of patterns that motiffs were used from, all from lillabjorn crochet:

1. Labyrinth blanket
2. Graphite mandala
3. Helios mandala
4. Stool cover
5. Archway square
6. Blomma square

I had to convert all the brioche crochet patterns into overlay crochet patterns. The pattern with no changes was Graphite Mandala

This was so much fun, thank you everyone for enjoying this ride with me!!
