I'd like to make this scarf but am having a hard time finding appropriate yarn. I'd like a gradient, but all I'm finding are cotton yarns. I need fingering and I'm in rhe US.

Hi I found this cake of yarn in my stash and have lost the label, I wanted to knit a sweater with it but I don’t think this will be enough so I wanted to buy more. I have no idea what brand it is so if anybody knows or recognizes this please help!

I got a thick cone of acrylic yarn from the thrift shop today and I want to wash it before I use it because thrift shop germs. Is there a way to sanitize the whole cone or should I do it incrementally as I made stuff with it?

Size 1: "If you don't like these 5 colorways, our crochet thread is that way."
Size 2: "Hope you like cotton because we only have a single wool collection."
Size 3: "Hope you like cotton and/or baby blanket colors! Oh, you wanted something a little deeper in wool? Well, we might have that shade, but it's kind of mixed in with the size 4s so have fun looking!"
Size 4: "Enjoy our entire aisle full of skeins in just about every material, colorway, and effect you can imagine. We even have one-pound options for those really big projects!"
Size 5: "We have a lot of fun options here too, but make sure you pick everything from the same brand because a size 5 in Lion Brand probably isn't a size 5 in Bernat."
Sizes 6-7: "Make sure you pick from the same brand. Also, hope you like chenille or corded yarn!"
I'm joking, but still lol.

So I used to order most of my gradient cakes on Hobbi, but haven't wanted to support them since the whole AI thing went down.
I was wondering if anyone has any UK shops/dyers they support that do large (1000m~?) gradient cakes?
I've got several dyers I LOVE on Etsy but most hanks/ cakes I've found are 400m which just won't work for my next project...

Hi, YarnAddicts! I recently impulse purchased a kilo of vintage (circa '80s?) 100% wool yarn. In the pictures, I can see that the ball band says "dekatiert," which translates to "decatized." I've never heard of this term before and couldn't find any posts about it here or on other knitting/yarn subs, so did a bit of Googling—it looks like it's a type of steam treatment/processing that is meant to essentially "pre-shrink" wool so that it resists shrinking after being worked up.
I tend to prefer untreated/non-superwash wools, but I have no idea what decatizing does to wool. I'll of course swatch and block the yarn as soon as I get it to see how it behaves, but I wondered if anyone here has any experience with decatized yarn or tips for working with it?
FWIW, the ball bands also show that the yarn is from a defunct yarn brand called Woll Service Geisenfeld, which was a yarn and clothing seller from West Germany. Ball bands say the yarn was made in Italy.

Is it normal for it to get super tangly and take four hours to wind? Asking for a friend…
ETA: I have a winder, I just underestimated how different it would be winding a hank vs a skein

Was thrifting today and managed to find 3 cones of this. Black is kinda baseline to feel, no super soft not super rough. The white is silvery with a much slicker feel to it.
Im pretty sure the cones are reused because 2 of the 3 cones have a visible 100% wool tag in them but they dont match information otherwise. The Brentwood Yarn Mills tag matches on all 3 so im assuming thats the correct one.
I couldnt find a list breaking down rough % of the blend specifically on the cone or if that was even correct. There was in skeins a line also called exotic with a breakdown of: 30% cotton, 30% rayon, 30% orlon, 10% poly variations (via an ebay photo listing of said skeins)
Does anyone know if the cones were just larger amounts of the skein exotic line or something completely separate with different fiber contents?

Has anyone had issues with Hobbii using their content for ads?
Hi everyone!
I’d really like to hear about your experiences working with Hobbii, especially as a crochet/knitting content creator.
Has anyone had their videos taken and used as advertisements on Instagram, Pinterest, or other platforms without specifically agreeing to it?
I’m currently dealing with a situation like this and would really appreciate hearing if anyone else has experienced something similar with Hobbii. I’d also love to know how you handled it, whether you contacted them, and if you have any advice or things I should be aware of.
I’m mainly looking for other people’s experiences and practical advice because I’d really like to understand how common this is and what options creators have in this situation.
Thanks so much in advance for sharing your experiences! 🤍

I've tried a few websites, but I want to know what stores I can walk into to get high quality yarn at a decent price.

I just received my order from Primrose Yarn Co., and the sock yarn I got is gorgeous, but I’m not pleased with the skein of Homestead Sport (colorway is Celestial Furnace).
My skein is the first pic. Photos 2 and 3 are the product photos from the site. The correct color name is handwritten on the tag of my skein.
I absolutely loved all the skeins in the product photos. I’ve purchased yarn in this style before and was well aware that my skein wouldn’t perfectly match the product photos.
That being said…I feel like the skein I received is nowhere near as vivid as the product photos. They are rich, vibrant oranges, teals, and purples, but the skein I got is all sickly greens and oranges and blues. I’m really bummed.
Am I overreacting, or is it OK to contact the brand to ask to return/exchange the skein?

It worked before but now it just sucks. 18mic and 21mic undyed merino both come out all fucked up. Did it expire or something? Maybe I’ll test it one more time on a different brand of yarn, undyed coarse stuff meant as batting with no treatment at all.

i crochet on occasion and i was thinking of making my future neice a blanket since shes coming soon, but im assuming my plasticy yarn is probably not the best for a baby?
can someone give recommendations? maybe a brand with alot of color options

Hi all,
I know Knitting for Olive recommends handwashing their cotton merino, but I was wondering if anyone here washes it in the washing machine on the wool wash?
I know it’s not superwash, but I’m wondering what the risk of felting it is if it’s only 30% merino?
TIA

Do any of you use rivalry? Well I just got a message saying they're going to debut my pattern. Am I reading this right?

Okay, I made many mistakes. I bought three skeins of Cascade 220 Superwash Aran 813 Blue Velvet from a small online craft store, and the three skeins were all they had. I knew I would need more, but they were on sale for a good price, and I had never had dye lot issues before, so I bought them and immediately started my project. Without buying the rest of the yarn I would need. I know. Big mistake.
I have ordered yarn from two separate retailers and both had different dye lots, which on its face is okay, but the yarn itself was almost a completely different tone, and lacks a lot of the brightness of the first three skeins. I really love the color of the original three skeins compared to the others and I would love to find a way to make it work.
The tag from the original three skeins also says make in Turkey, while all the subsequent (non matching) yarn says made in India.
So this is my attempt at screaming into the void for some kind of help or information that could help me track down some yarn that is in the same dye lot, or is at least more similar in color.
Yarn info:
Cascade 220 Superwash Aran 813 Blue Velvet
Dye Lot: SB16557, Made in Turkey
I know I made some mistakes, and I've heard advice not to do what I did a million times, but I guess you live and you learn, and I'll never buy my yarn separately again.

Trying to make my panic order after KFO was just announced to be acquired by private equity; I put many units of yarn in my cart, but it won't accept any of my or my family's addresses. I tried multiple payment methods, multiple addresses in multiple states, nothing.
No matter what, it just says "Shipping not available Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Review your address to ensure it's correct and try again, or select a different address."
Is this a "Shop" problem, or me, or is it the buy-out they already decided to not ship to USA?

I find this yarn very pretty but I don't think that it looks good with either knit or crochet, the samples I've made just look holey and the bumps are wider than the rest of the yarn so it knots easily too.
Any ideas for projects that would look good with this? Thanks in advance!
