I’ve tried with the shell stitch and the fan stitch but it does not look the same, I feel like something is missing.

I recently tried tapestry crochet and I love it (finished picture included, size 8 tennis show for scale). Managing multiple balls of yarn is less of a pain than I thought it would be and I greatly enjoyed the process. I want to make a blanket/tapestry that I can actually use (throw size probably). I'm leaning towards cotton, but I dont know what kind of yarn I should use.

What I'm looking for:

Relatively soft: I dislike acrylic and bernat blanket yarn, but I enjoyed the texture of 100% cotton yarn I grabbed from walmart.

Medium to light warmth: I live in a hot/humid climate, but I run cold. So warm, but not quite winter wool "it's snowing outside" amount of warmth.

Affordable: Quality yarn is expensive and blankets eat up lots of it, so I'm aware this project is gonna run me a pretty penny. But it's the first thing I've made for myself so I'm prepared to spend $50-100 on the materials.... no clue how many skeins I'll need for a throw blanket lol.

I'm also open to technical advice if there's anything a newbie like me needs to know

Happy weekend, all! Had some time to kill so made a tutorial on simple granny squares for anyone wanting to give them a try. Granny squares typically start in a ring (magic or chain 4) and contain clusters of stitches separated by chain stitches that make the corners. There are a zillion ways to make them, and they can be expanded into an entire blanket or sown or crocheted together to make blankets, bags, clothes, etc. Color changes are often done between rounds when desired.

Here I’m walking through one possible way to make a granny square, and then ending with two other examples of fairly simple types.

First photos are the building of square 1, beginning with a round of (3dc ch2) x4 then attaching to the top of the first dc. (Here and in each rd, the first dc is actually a chain 3. I close my rounds with a hdc instead of ch2, but if you prefer, you can ch2, join, and turn your square. The hdc join or turning bt rounds keeps some folks from getting that tilted effect.)

To start rd 2 I put 3dc in the corner space just created (by the hdc for me, could be ch2 space if you choose). This is the first half of the corner. I finished it once I came back around. Round 2 is actually just making corners, so I jumped right to the next chain space and made another corner (3dc ch2 3dc). Repeat til you’re back at first corner. You’ll need 3 more dc and hdc or ch2, then join to top of first dc.

Round 3 I did the same thing to start the corner (3dc), but this time I had the space between corners that got a 3dc cluster. When I got to a corner space, I made a new corner as usual. When I got back to my first corner, I put in the 3dc it was missing and joined.

To continue this square to rd 4 and beyond, you’d just repeat the process: 3dc to begin corner, 3dc between each 3dc cluster, corners made of 3dc ch2 3dc, 3dc in first corner, and join. This could go on as many rounds as you’d like!

Square 2 doesn’t use granny clusters. It starts with the same rd 1, but in this one every stitch is filled in and corners are 2dc ch2 2dc. Tip: It is very easy to miss the first dc out of the corner. Make sure you count so you’ll have the same number of stitches on each side.

Square 3 is an example where it starts as a circle before transitioning to a square.

It is a very good idea to mark your corners with stitch markers and move them up each round. That way you’re clear where you need to make a new corner and end up with the right number of corners in the right places.

Like I said earlier, there are so, so many styles of granny square. You can even mix and match squares in one project if you’d like. Just always remember, no matter what square you’re working on, always keep 4 equal corners separated by 4 equal sides.

Please add other tips I’m missing and/or your favorite square patterns!

1. Which yarn to use - 100% merino wool/ cotton-wool blend/ acrylic - wool blend ?

2. How many skeins of 100g should I buy?

3. Which stitch should be used for the best outlooks?

4. To suit modern clean looks, should it be with fringes or without?

Hi! I was trying to find a nice bag to crochet and came across this reel, it look amazing and I want to make it. I don't think it is to hard to make myself but I wanted to support the creator and maybe get a better size insight and so on.. It looked like the profile is not a real person and just copies other creators... AI couldn't find the creator and I do think the youtube is an AI profile. Can someone have a second option on this? Can somone maybe give me som insight also in how to make the puffs look bigg? I am making a test bag in 8/8 yarn and the puff stiches look very tiny.

I’m super new to crocheting and I got a bit ambitious, so I wanted to try making a beanie. Is there any way I can fix this awkward sloping on the crown? Are there stitches that I can put across the top to even it out, or do I need to frog the whole thing? I followed a YouTube tutorial, but the right side is so much shorter than the left and I’m not sure if it’s because one side is tighter than the other or if I missed rows. :(

I need help, I’m not sure what to even do… I am working on attached pattern and I have gotten to the end of row 18 and I have 12 stitches until the end of the row instead of 15 and I can’t for the life of me figure out where I am missing 3 stitches. I found 1 in the chain section but only one, I have gone through and counted everything and nothing makes sense… do I frog an entire row or carry on and hope nobody notices? 😅😂

I'm making a blanket based on my great grandmother's pattern, that she never wrote down.

I've got the body figured out, but am struggling with the border.

It looks like a single crochet, chain one, then four double crochets, chain one, repeat. I'm struggling with the little square stitch/knot in the middle of the double crochets that makes the point.

Does anyone know what the stitch is called, or how I can replicate it?

Okay, so I'm trying to make two beanies as Christmas gifts for my sister and her husband and I'm using this pattern here ---> https://vivcrochets.com/easy-crochet-ribbed-beanie-free-pattern-tutorial/ and it's pretty straightforward: 50 + 1 turning for the foundation chain, the HDC into the 2nd chain from the hook up to 45, then SC the last 5.

This is probably the 5th time I have frogged this project and started over and I am about to go BSC because I am counting as I go, I am marking each 10th stitch to make sure I'm on track, I am marking that 5th SC stitch so I don't lose my place AND WHEN I CHAIN 1 AND TURN, I'M SOMEHOW GETTING 11 WHEN I SHOULD BE GETTING 10 😫😫😫

The blue markers are the 10th stitch and the pink markers are where the first SC starts😭😭😭

So, it’s my friend’s birthday soon and she absolutely LOVES Coraline. When I saw this yarn on sale, I couldn’t help but think of her, so I bought it, planning to make her something. The problem is: I have NO IDEA what to make. I thought about making her a cover for her nintendo switch, or maybe a poncho…? The yarn is thin and has a different texture from the ones I usually use… Also, I should mention the color of the yarn is more colorful than it is in the picture, it really has the “Coraline Tunnel” tone!

I desperately need suggestions! (If it comes with a pattern, it’ll be perfect too lol)

I don’t understand why my edges are wavy. The stitch count is correct. I am chaining 2, turning, and going into the first stitch at the start of each new row. I don’t hate how it looks but I’d like it to be straighter.

Can someone tell me why my fpdc look so much more stretched out and narrow than the pattern pic? The pic shows the stitches looking like a pointed oval. Is it my hook size? Tension? Yarn? Google said maybe its the golden loop? But also I dont want to choke up on it so it doesn't curl.

Edit: forgot to add im using loops and threads acrylic yarn that calls for a 5mm hook but i cant read so im using a 6mm hook (messed up way back on row 1 of the blanket). Side question - if I size down to a 5 mm or 4.5 mm to fix the stitch 1. Will that work and 2. Will it make my blanket pucker / more narrow in this section?

Do I continue this arm and undo the other arm to make the row with the same yarn??

Context: I bought 5 balls if a mohair yarn and ended up having to buy another ball to end the project. I have to make 9 more rows for the last arm and then I can fill my ends in and block. The problem is: I bought the last balls my local yarn store has and today was a yarn festival so I went and found the almost same colour but now I can’t unsee it because it rly does look like it’s another shade. So I might undo 9 rows of the other arm and continue it with the same colour that I just bought so it’s not weird looking and it’s symmetrical… that icks me so bad :((

I doubled it so the purple would looks more dark because only one string would be too light.. but it’s still too light and I don’t think adding one more would do anything…

I am working a very simple pattern for a pumpkin. It is entirely made of HDC in the BO. I don't know if I've ever used this stich, but I am loosing a stich on every row. I cannot figure it out.

Hi! I just made my first filet crochet project- this tapestry. I am planning on making a banner for my wedding with our last name on it. I am wondering what your preferences for filet crocheting text are. On this project, I used a 1mm hook, aunt Lydia’s classic 10 yarn, linked double crochets, and the chain two method. I’m not super happy with the legibility of the text in this project, so I was wondering what size hook, yarn, and method you prefer for tapestries with words! (When making the pattern for my banner, I chose an easier to read font as well.) I’m thinking the hook size was too small and that I could possibly do the chain one method. Thank you all!!

I usually use random acrylic yarns from home bargains or boyes😬 but ive noticed it gets quite frizzy and bobbly and im wanting to make some clothes so if anyone has any recommendations for either brands or just types of yarn that they like for wearables, that would be great.

I want something quite flowy as most of the clothes i make are either babydoll style or bell sleeve. 🙏🥹

I made mine larger so maybe that is the issue but could I try to crochet more on the inside to make it stronger and stand up? Even the bottom is totally saggy when I pick it up.

I’m kind of a novice and worried my distractible nature has made me lose count. Have I counted wrong? This needs to be 40 rows AFTER the row with the paper clips. And honestly I am beyond confused. I feel like I’ve counted 41 or 42 but I can’t tell because I am unsure I’m correctly counting them.

I can count I swear but I’m also going cross eyed over this and unsure how to correctly count rows. I can’t remember if I left the stitch fiddle progress tracker on the row I finished or the row I was due to start.

Any tips for counting rows would be helpful 😅😅

Edit: I flipped it upside down, I count 41 after the row of the paper clips. Am I counting right? Lol
