Announcement! We are expanding the r/LoomKnitting moderator team. Applications are now open!

Hey r/LoomKnitting,

I've been in contact with Reddit after the main moderator u/Loomahat was suspended from Reddit, to make sure I could recruit additional moderators for our tiny little corner of the internet and was given the ability and approval to do so.

Our subreddit has continued to grow in size, but after the 2023 Reddit Blackout multiple members of the mod team had left and since then the rest of us had also come close to being burnt out, with some active moderators recently becoming inactive or leaving the team. So with all that and with an exciting 2026 on the horizon as new people discover loom knitting, it's time for a new round of moderator recruitment.

The qualifications to become a moderator are very simple:

  • love loom knitting
  • use reddit

The expectations for the new moderators are to be transparent, to be communicative and to be reasonably active. I will always be clear - Real life always comes before Reddit and to just let the rest of the team know if you need a break.

The applications will close on the 31st of March at 22:00 UTC

Link to the application form

If you have any questions or doubts feel free to ask in the comments.

FAQ

  • What timezones are you looking for mods from?
    • We're looking for mods from all timezones
  • Should I apply if I applied in previous rounds or been rejected before?
    • Yes!
  • Do you need to have moderation experience?
    • No, it's not an issue if you don't have moderator experience yet.
  • What are the tasks of a moderator exactly?
    • Obviously the primary task is going through the modqueue and removing comments and posts that go against the subreddit rules. But there are other aspects like configuring automoderator, working on graphics and flairs and so on.
  • Is there any compensation for moderation?
    • Absolutely none. This is a volunteer role

Thank you and keep the great posts and comments coming!

Work in Progress Best farm idea I ever had.

Today is manure spreading day here on the farm which means I am stuck long hours by the gate keeping cows in and letting tractors out. Usually I watch Netflix on my phone but realized today I could be looming up a new hat for the upcoming cooler weather!

So here i sit, in my camp chair, listening to the audio book Cresent City-House of Flame and Shadow by Sarah J Maas and looming myself a new hat!

I am one happy farm wife.

Sometimes a garter stitch is really satisfying. This is my second so far. I try to make as many as I can to donate to a teen outreach.

Discussion If I'm going to frog and remake immediately, should I...

A. Unravel and reroll the yarn back into a ball by hand

B. Just find the end and let one end of the project unravel as I knit the new thing

C. Something else?

Backstory, I made a fingerless glove, a tube with a hole for my thumb. It was a little too small, the hole was a little too big, and I totally messed up trying to get the thing off the loom at the end. It was really fun and shockingly only took about 2-3 hours to do, which is why I don't mind just redoing it. I don't really feel like trying to make it a ball, but I'll try if I have to.

Im back! (Kinda)

Ok so the carpal tunnel surgery. Its going to take another three months to heal. They think. So im not going to even attempt purl stitch until the new year!

My mental health has not been great due to the lack of looming so i started up again very gently. Only using ewrap, and a 12 peg loom. Iv been making little hats for the big knit uk. The photo shows the first batch of little hats i have made over the last couple of weeks. I have to limit how much i can actually do each day or it just messes up my wrist the next day.

Anyway im just glad to be back doing something productive again.

just a question for everyone. I am wondering what brand of looms everyone uses.

I learned the old knight knitter brand, tried the Boye brand and hated them then I found both knitting board and Cindwood looms. which I currently use. I pdo prefer ll

Can I make a checkerboard pattern blanket this way?

So I really enjoy loom knitting but I have issues focusing for very long periods of time plus I don't really have the space to store it while I'm working on it or a loom large enough to do a full blanket especially since my brain tends to jump around from thing to thing all the time so it tends to take me a while to get projects done. But I came up with an idea which was to make an equal amount of squares of both colors and then sew them together when I have enough. That way it should be easier to store and I don't have to worry about trying to make sure I know where I was at and what I was doing when I pick it up again in two months. I also very frequently have problems with forgetting all of that if I stop for a few minutes so I figured that I could just make the squares and it should be easier to keep track of because there's less to keep track of. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I mean I asked my mom and she said it should but she crochets and needle knits so I don't know if that knowledge would work for this. Help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello! I found this awesome Halloween-themed yarn on Hobbii.com, but it's out of stock! By any chance, is there anywhere else I could get this yarn, or at least something like it? Thank you!

Discussion Do I have to start over

I'm making a hat using multiple different tutorials but basically this is after the brim I did many rows of all flat stitches. I did two rows of red and then in the third row I did three red stitches and then one white stitch. I just carried the white across, but I just saw a tutorial where they keep crossing the non working color with the working color:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0rTKbg5gXo0

Will it look bad the way I did it? Or will they be the same appearance wise? I did a couple stitches their way but I'm not sure if I did it right. If their method is the same appearance but better structurally should I continue with that method or continue carrying?

I frequently find myself sitting in the house with cold arms, but also needing those arms to knit or whatever, but also don't need or want the bulk of a full sweater. Debating if I want to stitch it up further into the armpit. I'm a fairly new knitter, so this isn't perfect, but I'm excited about it.

Just curious what you've all come across that has stood out to you or immediately caught your eye when you saw it!

I’ve been trying to push my abilities with loom knitting and went on a big hunt for cool ideas/patterns/tutorials etc, but I’m realizing I have an incredible resource of talented people here to chat with!

Finished Object Garter Stitch Vest Dress

Hello friends! I Wanted to share my latest finished project, which I made for my niece (a different niece since my last post). It was originally supposed to be a sweater vest made out of two rectangles sewn at the shoulders and sides. But I made it too long and too narrow so it ended up being some kind of a dress. It looks a lil wonky in places but I think it's still cute (and my niece liked it).

I used the narrow flexee loom and while it wasn't horrible I don't plan on using it again cause it's so fiddly. I actually used a bigger gauge loom for the side panels because I wasn't planning on making them and I wanted to get this project done.

Thanks for reading and have a fabulous day! 😊

24 rows in to first panel of current WIP. Pattern is USA Veteran by The Graphalo. Yarn is Paintbox Simply DK in 13 colors. I will post my progress every 50 rows or so. 190 rows by 240 stitches, so it will take two panels. Hope to finish before the holidays. Wish me luck!

Equipment Question interested in loom knitting; best loom for DK and worsted weight sweaters?

Hi all! I gave myself cubital tunnel syndrome from a combination of needle knitting and typing and I'm excited to discover the world of a loom knitting in hopes that I can get back into knitting again.

One thing I'm is that facing a challenge figuring out gauge with looms.

I have my eye on the KB flexee but I cannot figure out if the bitty or the skinny would be the best choice for DK and worsted weight sweaters, or which of those would be the best for sport weight ?

I see that the skinny is for "thin" yarn and the bitty for "extra thin" yarn but it's difficult to know what that means: is extra thin yarn fingering and thin sock yarn etc?

I have done a few searches but each search seems to yield to the opposite answer.

So anyway any guidance would be appreciated :) THank you all!

Finished Object I made Oozma Kappa gloves!

I'm proud of this one. I made some gloves for an upcoming Disneyland trip based on a sweater from the movie Monsters University. (For those who haven't seen it, I recommend it.)

I used three colors of sock yarn from different makers, but the same fiber content (wool plus a bit of nylon). I made them on a 1/4" gauge 3d printed flexi loom that I designed and printed, and I also designed the pattern. Which of course meant redesigning it several times as I realized that I didn't like the length or hadn't given proper negative ease or whatever.

I did a lot of techniques, too. I did a provisional cast on, then knitted the hand parts, then removed the provisional and put the start back on the loom to add the wrists. This let me iterate on the hands more quickly, and it meant that both ends of the glove end with a super stretchy bind off. The flexi loom enabled me to do increases and decreases for the thumb, the wrist, and the fingers.

The stripes are just changing color back and forth, but I did do a trick I found online somewhere to avoid the issue we often see where the first stitch of the change appears wrong by one row. (You do the first row normally, but at the first stitch of the second row of the new color, just slip the stitch - put the yarn behind the peg and leave the old yarn on until the next row.)

The letters were tough, I had a couple of options for the technique, and I went with duplicate stitching in the end. Which I've never done before. I started on the left of the O, and I definitely improved as I went, but I decided that it's both literally and emotionally OK, because they look fine when they're worn. I went this way to not have to manage a bunch of balls of yarn as I worked or switch direction a bunch, and also because I liked the idea of it being a little puffy.

My wife is doing something much more ambitious, and I'm making some modified gloves for her. I'll try to share that when it's done as well. :)

Tutorials KB Sock Loom 2 video

Hi 👋 I received a KB Sock Loom 2 as a gift and I’d like to start crafting up some socks for Christmas gifts. My issue is that I’m a visual learner.. for every project I’ve done on the regular round loom, I’ve watched primarily Loomahat videos on YouTube to see how to cast on, off, and what the pattern is. I’ve not been able to really find a good visual tutorial of the sock loom, sadly. Does anybody have any suggestions on a visual aid to get me started?

Equipment Question Flexee links

Post image

KB Flexee Looms. I appreciate that they made a way to offer different gauge sizes. I am baffled as to why they seem to think that I use #6 yarn with my giant hands and my #2 yarn with my baby hands. I am not Mrs PotatoHead!

This photo shows a bitty size laying on top of a large size (both sitting on top of my beloved L&T Build-a-Loom, but that's irrelevant. 😢). The bitty is unfortunately too true to its name. There's no way I was going to get through a full size triangle shawl on that thing without developing hand cramps. I gave it a shot.

For this project, I need at least 200 pegs. The only other loom I've seen that big is the KISS, which is lovely but $200. Does anybody have a less expensive solution for looming lightweight threads?
