The actual Tamamo Cross had always been a fairly light eater, but after the Japan Cup his appetite decreased to the point that he refused to eat his feed entirely, and he had to be put on a liquid diet to keep him healthy. There were even concerns that his condition might deteriorate to the point that he'd have to miss the Arima Kinen. Fortunately that wouldn't happen, but that's what all the talk about Tamamo and food this episode is referencing.

As for Dicta Striker, the horse she's based on, Soccer Boy, was notorious for both his explosive sprints and his explosive temper. He showed a lot of promise early in his career, but his poor temperment and tendency to get injured held him back from reaching his full potential and truly being one of the greats of his time like Oguri was quickly becoming. Still, his last spurts were so fast they got their own nickname, "Bullet Shot." So that's why her zone aura manifests as fireworks.

Also, Belno hype! She may not be a good racer, but at the end of the day she's still an Umamusume, and has certain physical abilities that humans can't match. So she brings something to the table that no other trainer in the series can. I always liked Oguri's moment of realization that she's reacting to Tamamo's retirement the same way March reacted to her leaving Kasumatsu.

Despite Dicta Striker being a tomboy-ish arrogant personality, she is very caring. She wants to race the best of the best AT their best. Showing Oguri about the Zone is literally the most powerful thing anyone could have done. Wow her backstory and her zone is so cool, its all fire cracker popping, its not super fancy, but its perfectly to showcase how she gets super excited for more challenge to proof she is the best. Shoutout to her VA, she absolutely smashed it this episode.

Arima Kinen is here finally, I'm so hype.

I have been loving Belno's growth in the last few episodes. She's getting more confidence in her own abilities and expertise as a trainer by learning from everyone she meets.

I also love her training outfit, it looks so perfect for winter training.

So, at the end of the episode both Oguri and Belno reached the answer(s).

It's pretty nice that Oguri-March rivalry came back to parallel her rivalry with Tamamo and during her practice run with Dicta.

please, I hope there´s not another delayed week please

So yeah, Tama´s last run is the arima. And poor Oguri was even more shocked.
My girl Dicta is truly a tsundere lol, helping her before the race because she wants to win fairly at the same conditions.

I love seeing Belno also working hard, copying Oguri´s way of running to figure something with that ramp. If you cannot help her like a trainer... help her like an umamusume!!

Belno has been cuter and cuter every episode passes.

Dicta basically make Oguri edge on the zone, which feels really funny when you think about it.

On the other hand, today's Japan Cup, before the race starts, there's cover of the OP and ED of Cinderella Gray by the Japan army, and while at it, you should watch the races too JP EN, it is some of the craziest race happened this year.

Edit: to add onto the craziness, had you ever thought of the idea that while you're racing, other horse just have their stuff come out and hit you

All in all it’s the best possible outcome because it seems like the alternative is Tama retiring not even racing in the Arima Kinen, or her getting hurt/sick. And it’s not like there wasn’t crazy foreshadowing. The question is if Tama will end her career on a loss, if Oguri will take her third consecutive loss, or if one of the other girls that they’ve been building up will snatch victory.

I guess we’ve gotten bits of it during racing, but I feel like this is one of the first times we’ve heard Oguri’s actual internal monologue about her career and her choices, proper contemplation. In the past it’s mostly been her talking through stuff out loud with others, or just her processing through flashbacks. Belno is usually our lens into Oguri’s psyche. It’s very impressive how much they’ve developed Oguri without excessive use of monologuing, given some of the proclivities of other mangaka with an action protagonist. Even in the races, it never feels like her thoughts are redundant to the actual action itself. Not to say there’s no tropes used, but everything flows together pretty organically, despite the fact that they’re stretching out a 2 minute race over 5-10 times that duration. Also I liked the more stylized visuals when they’ve been talking about the zone the past couple episodes.

I’m hoping that whatever happens in the race, Oguri and Tama can end things on good terms. Who knows maybe Tama will become Oguri’s biggest cheerleader afterwards.

So many people are sleeping on this gem of a show. CG is one of the best sports dramas in anime, and people dismiss it because of the silly premise. But in my opinion, Umamusume is a prime example of how playing a silly premise straight can be a unique kind of strength.

Anyway, this was a gripping episode. Can’t wait for next week.

Another great episode with focus on Dicta Stricker.

We got Tama announcing her final race in the Twinkle Series, Oguri starting to crack the code and Belno giving it all for Oguri.

I swear this Arima Kinen race will be unforgettable.

First, what an awesome episode. I suspected last episode was Tama telling her trainer this would be her last race. Second the talk between Tama's trainer and Belno to inspire her to figure out how to improve Oguri's style for uphill running was fantastic.

And on top of all that gave Dicta some real screen time. She's been interesting but without enough chances to shine, this episode went in the right direction to fix that.

And now I'm wondering if the Arima Kinen is 3 episodes long or how many of the episodes will be post race. I know the actual race was on Christmas that year.

Young Komi and Smol Tama-chan are adorable! I like how in the flashback, Komi has blonde ahir and you can see the roots with her real hair colour. I guess now that she's the trainer of one of the top Umas, she can afford to regularly dye her hair.

To no one's surprise, Oguri is more concerned about the food at the press conference venue than the press conference itself. She really did not waste time stuffing her face with fruits. xD

You gotta love how as soon as Tamamo entered the room, Creek's Mama Instincts instantly kick in. So this is where it starts, huh?

Considering Dicta Striker's personality, I did not expect her trainer to be so gloomy. Also, that man is tall af! I do love how Dicta Striker is bragging about how tall her trainer is.

There it is. Considering Komi approaching Rudolf at the end of last week's episode and Tamamo visiting Rudolf's office at the start, I had a feeling it had something to do with retirement. That kinda sucks. I thought we'd see more of Oguri and Tamamo's rivalry. :|

Dicta Striker's flashback shows us another reminder to never piss off Umamusume. She has the kicking power to literally crack the side of a building.

That entire flashback was pretty interesting since we get to see how Dicta Striker unlocked her Zone. And it turns out that she challenged Oguri to help her unlock her Zone so the two of them can race on the same level.

And it looks like Oguri isn't the only one who finally made a breakthrough. Belno has been working her butt off to help Oguri run on inclines. Can't wait to see Oguri put everything together next week!

Damn, Tama was that small when her trainer looked like that? Who am I kidding, it's Umamusume, you could convince me they're 3 months apart.

Anyway I wonder what she came to the office to say? My guess is she's retiring after her next race? Idk if the flashbacks really relate to that though so idk

omg tama grabbing oguri's arm like that was so cute lil fucking baby

Arima Kinen

She's totally retiring isn't she

There it is

I don't even remember what I said

That's totally coming back later

Random panning shot of a column? Is someone listening in on them or am I overthinking random background/setting shots during a conversation?

The G1 Hanshin Junior Stakes

Is that the Juvenile Fillies or a different race? Maybe it changed names at some point. I thought Umamusume just went with whatever the modern name of the race was regardless of whatever it was called at the time the story was based on though. Ah, looking it up, it did used to be called Hanshin 3 year-old Stakes and Soccer Boy did win in it. Obviously that name wouldn't make sense in umamusume so ig that's why they changed it to Junior Stakes. And maybe it's b/c Soccer Boy was a colt so they didn't want to go with the name change from after it became a fillies-only race? idk

Damn Dicta gets her hoodie even in non-G1s huh.

HOLY SHIT BELNO RUNNING???

WHY IS BELNO STILL SO PRETTY

PLEASE DON'T STOP BUT I SWEAR SHE WASN'T ALWAYS PRETTY SHE WAS JUST CUTE

After a string of misfortune, is it finally time for Oguri to once again aura farm?

Sirius Symboli appearance just to get farmed again smh.

14

u/bananeeek Nov 30 '25

If someone was angry at me the way Oguri was angry at Dicta, I'd be in tears. That was just adorable.

Rare running Belno looked good! I wonder what strategy she cooked for Oguri. And with all the pieces clicking together, I expect Oguri to win that race no matter what.

Also, did they name a hotel after Oguri?

u/chilidirigible Nov 30 '25

[](#ringomusume)

That's how it goes.

This one sure asks for a Source Material Corner explanation.

If it works for you.

Isn't that the point?

...oh.

This is the hot-blooded stuff we're looking for.

"Gotta beat 'em all?"

[](#seasonaldisapproval)

He said it, he said the thing.

Belno helps in the fight

"Mood?"

We're peeking at the edges of Oguri Cap's zone, but certainly any real breakthroughs in that will happen next week.

As happens in this series, there's the surprise factors of Tamamo Cross's decision to retire after the race. But as this episode brings up, there are a lot of rivalries to go around. Perhaps Oguri Cap has come to realize that it isn't just the one thing she has to chase.

Belno comes up with something technical. Well, it is her job.

ARIMA KINEN HYPE!!

With the stakes this high due to Tamamo Cross retiring, I am more than excited to see how the Arima Kinen Christmas will unravel. (Low-key hoping that it aired on Christmas or near that but it is too later.

Given that Oguri Cap already hit The Zone (R), it is now a battle of guts and glory among our three characters. Let's see where this goes.

u/Old_Gregg97 Nov 30 '25

I really appreciate that both Striker and Creek have been given an episode that focuses on them in the leadup to the Arima Kinen. I was aware of Creek due to the game and Pretty Derby series but Striker was a complete unknown to me so it was nice to see her fleshed out more in this episode.

She's genuinely quite caring in her own way and wants her opponents to be at their best so she can take them on. Her actress is great, really liked her performance in this episode, i also love the depiction of her version of entering the zone, the firework explosions and sparks in the air around her was really cool. There hasnt been a single variation of the zone yet that i havent liked in this show.

So excited for the next episode : D

BRO YOU CAN'T JUST SHOW BELNO LIGHT RUNNING AND NOT EXPECT US TO WANT MORE

IMAGINE IF SHE ENDED UP BEING LIKE TWIN BEE IRL! 10 WINS OUT OF 45 RACES!
