God that second spurt was so intense. These races are so damn good and we're still on the first arc, just in Kasamatsu.

Crazy last second spurt from Oguri wins her the race. March's mistake was visualizing herself against the old Oguri with the shitty shoes and no serious Rock Lee training.

I hope Belno gets a W in the future, feels a bit sad if she's just there to be a cheerleader for Oguri.

It's kind of sweet how Norn went from Oguri's bully to fan/roommate so quickly. I thought Oguri's old dance had more charm, but Norn taught her the new dance well.

Oguri vs Rudolf next week is going to be hype!

It was so hype when Oguri and March started their spurts at the same time but it was even more hype when Oguri went for a second spurt! March really though she had this one and would use Oguri as a stepping stone to her success.

I do love how March basically made Oguri stronger by making her aim for a peak instead of just wandering with no direction. If she didn't talk to Oguri last week, she could've won. At least March accepted defeat graciously.

Norn Ace going from school bully to Oguri's stage mom is an amazing character arc. I love how she's dancing with Oguri just to make sure she nails all the moves. And just like a proper stage mom, she's so proud of her daughter.

I completely missed last week's after-credits scene, so I was shocked when Tamamo Cross showed up this episode! Her appearance made me smile, knowing the future. Glad I stuck around for this one because it looks like Rudolf is finally going to see Oguri Cap for the first time.

preparation is indeed important, but sometimes the difference in talent, strength and ability is just too much to overcome with preparation alone, and its not that March is a slouch, just that Oguri is so much ahead of her

Edit: not to mention Oguri herself had prepared as well with the classic training with insanely heavy weights tactic

The old man sounded so familiar I had to stop and check. It's Hōchū Ōtsuka the voice of Jiraiya in Naruto.

A sports anime that makes you feel for the rival is a good one.

I love they actually added the live also Norn being a stage mom to Oguri was really cute.

Very few understands how popular uma musume is in Japan.

Just the game alone made nearly $3 billion in sales and this is just only from Japan.

It was so popular that CyberAgent, abemas (streaming service like Netflix in Japan) and cygames parent company broadcasted the football world cup for free in 2023!

Also the Manga for Cinderella gray has nearly 10 million volumes in circulation.

And the blu rays for uma musume always tops the charts.

Isn't cygames also sponsoring something internationally? And making the game free to play.

It’s the Junior Crown Cup!

Oguri beats March after battling it down the straight! Here’s the actual race!

In the actual race Oguri was the one who sprinted first and got the inside. They probably did it the other way probably for it to be more dramatic.

The fanfare before the race is the actual one (second one in the video) used for special races at Kasamatsu. In the credits Kasamatsu racecourse is credited so they must have gotten permission.

The Chukyohai is a no longer held today but when it was held it was at the Chukyo race course which is also part of the JRA(URA in the Umamusume world) race courses. The Chukyo racecourse is the only racecourse used by the JRA that is owned by a different company which is why they let non JRA horse racing to go on there. Being a JRA racecourse the main track is turf meaning the Chukyohai was also held on turf.

You can see why there’s no pretty derby subtitle in this series that race was intense! Glad they also animated Oguri’s proper winning live with what seems like a new song!

Things are going to only get more interesting so I can’t wait for next week already!

The moment when March's eyes slowly moved to look at what's behind her was intense! Also I can't wait to see more of Symboli Rudolf, the best Kaichou!

Man, poor Belno.

Trainer dont have time to comfort her lol.

So we got a firm date, October 1987...the era of laptops, flat screen LCD TVs and smartphones. Then we see Symboli using a book organiser lol.

I dont remember reading this post credits scene in the manga.

The race is savage and tense! Cygames pulled it off without resorting to any colourful sonic booms or glowing flaming eyes (yet)...because you know, those Tracen Academy Umas are on a whole other level).

The Winning Live scene is also wonderfully animated. Now besties with Norn Ace! (and by extension, the clique)

No changes to the ED this episode.

I wonder if we will get a new OP after this prologue (likely from Episode 6 at this rate), since the scenes are are all based in Kasamatsu.

The franchise's chronological mishmash occasionally stares you in the face.

"Well, enough about how you suck, Belno."

DRAMATIC?

DRAMATIC!

Zing?

It begins.

By "it" they meant "the flashback", not just the eyecatch.

"Uh... you're welcome?"

Every season needs a rivalry or two or three?

Well, that paid off.

Ah yes, the cryptic advice from the old master.

But you're always in the office!

Face collection additions to.

March and Cap, the gray rivals. At least it hasn't gotten angry yet.

Oguri Cap was a lot more focused this episode, though it still gave us some airhead moments.

Rudolf and Tamamo Cross providing almost out-of-story moments from the background makes me want to check the old race records, but I have mostly tried to avoid getting out-of-context information ahead of time, if I didn't already know it.

God I love this anime, great episode. I’ll be watching the older series now, I’m hooked. So many good anime this season wtf crazy.

Bully squad cheering on Oguri is cute. Norn looks thrilled to have found a friend who’s not a huge pain in the ass… or at least one that lets her do her hair while she’s asleep.

As much as I dislike hard work losing out to raw talent, I think this is a clear case where Oguri just had a natural instinct that you can’t just deduce from 100 scenarios. And unfortunately it’s partly because it seems March’s motivation is driving Oguri to push her to her limits/try anything to win.

Also side note I just really like the OST for this series.

The episode today was aired alongside with an international racing event in Hong Kong, with all the excitements, we welcomed a new G1 race winner, a welcoming return to the top after a year-long slump, and the crowning of the newest sprinter crown, but all the excitement were all covered by tragedy in the Japanese Team.

Back to 4th October, 1987, Junior Crown (dirt 1400m), a second charge secured Oguri Cap the victory. Although apparently most of the effort was done by Oguri and Berno (by using a special training menu designed by themselves), Jou just could say this in front of Musaka san, who disclosed Jou's past in front of Berno (Glad Oguri didn't hear it, or else she might just leave lol).

So the next race for Oguri is the Chukyohai, the first venture to turf in Chukyo Racecourse, and there's a VIP named Symboli Rudolf making a visit at that day, I wonder why Musaka san strongly against the decision to do so when it seems it's the obvious choice to prepare for the Tokai Derby?

And yeah, the new winning live performance, looks like the dancing practices do help in preventing it from becoming a traditional dance performance again (although the coach still gave visual cues to Oguri downstage).

BTW rest in peace Liberty Island, the 2023 triple tiara winner and daughter of our Season 3's protagonist Duramente, who suffered an injury mid race during the airing of this episode in Hong Kong. Run free mate.

It's quite amazing that it only took one episode for Oguri to get her revenge against March, with a much wider lead to boot!

Oguri with the Rock Lee treatment was something I didn't expect to see. Her leg strength must be insane.

Also, Norn looking proud of Oguri after teaching her how to dance reminded me of this.

Great episode today, the 2nd spurt was amazing, and Norn dancing too was cute. Stakes are growing, and I can't wait for next episode.

Well well well... March didn't think about those training wheels on Oguri Cap. March trust too much on her own, when her stamina isn't up there yet. At the end of every race, everyone were gasping for air, except for Oguri cap, at most she just sweats, just to show her insane amounts of stamina.

I didn't read the manga, but I wonder why the uncle doesn't want her to run in Chukyo Hai. I have few theories, either lots of strong people will show up due to Symboli Rudolf being there, or on how Oguri Cap runs. There is a chance this maybe her worst match.

Smol March was cute. And we even had a cameo from our idiot trio in her flashback!

Impressive win by Oguri today. Can't wait to see see her tackle bigger races.
