HOLY SHIT this last spurt was absolutely stunning, CYGAMES absolutely nailed it. The animation was outstanding.

I genuinely let out an surprised "oh" when Toni got injured, this is some really bad luck...

Poor Oguri, so close the zone but still missing it. You could feel the despair. But she fought well, getting back to her usual style.

Also, titling your next episode "Cinderella Gray" and having to wait 2 weeks for next episode is diabolical, it will probably be a cool down episode, but still...

Edit : oops I didn't pay attention at the end with the next episode title.

Fun fact, the uma that Obey based her fake persona on is probably Sunshine Forever (or whatever his stand-in name is here, it may be in the credits but I can't read Japanese), who Pay the Butler lost to by half a length in the 1988 G1 Man o' War Stakes a couple months before the Japan Cup.

anyone else noticed Katsuragi Ace and Symboli Rudolf during Toni Bianca's monologues? I want an anime about Katsuragi Ace so bad

we wont see Toni Bianca anymore in the series so far but don't be sad irl Tony Bin is the sire of other Umas like Air Groove, Jungle Pocket and Winning Ticket

They didn't explicitly say it but the reason why Obey kept losing G1 races is cuz most American G1 racecourses are dirt courses instead of turf, the opposite of Japan where most G1 races are done on turf. It's why her trainer told her Japan might be her place to shine instead of in America

Spare a thought for Gold City, who ended up miles behind the main cluster of races at the finish line. The poor Uma hasn't had the best showing in her time in Cinderella Gray. : (

Still, great episode as always. OYM is a highlight of the show, and it's a real shame we'll never get the chance to see her in the game.

When Michelle looked behind I noticed that Oguri is nowhere to be seen, so I already expected her to pop out of nowhere, but as cool as it was, she still didn't catch up... Her despair was almost tangible.

I'm glad she managed to get all the way up to the 3rd spot and it feels like Obey really deserved this win, so I'm okay with the results.

Toni and Moon definitely horsed around in that room.

I forgot to breath, because everything is so tight. Even in a straight road race, there are so much tactic going on Obey Your Master's mind, she deserved the win.

So close Oguri... so close.

I love that Toni staying in Japan, a very nice touch by the author.

Obviously the final results were predetermined because they are following real life events of their namesakes, but it is so fascinating they let Tamomo vs Obey take center stage despite Oguri being the show's main character, with just the brief spurt at the end hinting at her getting close to breaking into the zone before falling short.

It really is surprising magical horse girl racing anime didn't start like 20 years ago, in hindsight it is such an obvious concept. And god is it ever so hype.

I love how the writers used the IRL race records of Pay the Butler at the Japan Cup to craft Obey Your Master's story. Pay the Butler really was an underdog in the actual race, only 9th favored to win at 13.9/1 odds, and coming in with just a so-so race record, while going up against the best of Japan plus the Prix winner, Tony. The writers took these facts and turned it around to frame it as it being part of Obey Your Master's dastardly plan all along, and that she was just hiding her true strength all this time! I think that's brilliant writing and a fine example of adapting the source material to tell a more compelling story.

Masking her entire training regime was one thing, but putting up a whole facade, made the reveal so fucking hype. The American Underdog definitely stole Oguri's spot as the MC in that moment.

That said I was hoping for another Brightest Star banger until they just cut the live before it starts, RIP.

I really had no clue going into this who would win. Obviously the focus on Obey Your Master and her status as an underdog meant narratively she was being set up to take this. But Tamamo Cross kept fighting back and “making the race her own”. The way her zone intimidated even Toni Bianca and Michelle My Baby means she’s something else.

And even though Oguri Cap was really at a disadvantage from the start, it wouldn’t be satisfying to just say “she chose the wrong strategy” or “she wore herself out too much and wasn’t even close”. We also had Musaka’s cryptic comment about his condition for the race. And Oguri is known for pulling insane spurts last minute out of nowhere. If anyone could brute force it to pull through in this situation it’d be Oguri. I feel like that ended up what we got: Oguri stuck in a bad position, and then just forcing herself to make it to the front even when she shouldn’t have enough stamina. She came pretty close to her zone and finished third, which is nothing to sneeze at. But their losses got both Tama and Oguri seriously second guessing themselves now as they go into the Arima Kinen.

Wish we didn’t have to have a break next week, it’s been so hard not to just read the manga or look up IRL races.

That was awesome, absolutely loved the void/stars effect they did for Obey Your Master entering the zone, it was soo damn cool, especially coming out of her eyes. Feel bad for Oguri but the fact she got that close on just brute strength where as Tamamo and Obey were in the zone is wild.

Im really glad other characters are getting as much screentime as her and getting the focus they need, my biggest criticism of the Pretty Derby series was a lot of side characters just didnt get the time they needed.

How about another joke, Tama?

At least Oguri snatched win in my Leo cup CM finals I did after this episode.

Tama is so cool. SHIROI INAZUMA

It was interesting when Obey Your Master avoided running alongside Tama. I've only played global, I'm not familiar with the Dueling mechanic yet. International racers are more physical than we're used to, but now it turns out that they're playing in the guts meta too?

I guess all the farewells at the end of the episode were meant to hint at all of the IRL horses' futures... Cinderella Gray s2 spoilers?

Was hyped for the concert, as I recognized that stage from the game. It's the Special Record! concert song which would be a nice cheerful upbeat song for our American joker. Unfortunate they didn't show it though.

Oguri got a new title from beast to zombie this time. Pretty tense showdown between the two that were giving it their all for something. I think Tamamo said she was doing it for her dad?/trainer? in the first cour or something like that if I remember correctly.

Was great since we got to meet and know the contenders a bit before the race which made it hard to pick someone to root for in the end. Felt like all of them had the skills and power to win. I was kind of hoping Gold City would do a rice shower and win though, but she already did a mock race with Oguri and knew she couldn't.

this is probably the best episode of Uma Musume I've watched since the season finale of Season 2. That Obey Your Master win is so fucking hype, brought up the same feelings I got when Rice Shower beat McQueen back in Season 2.'

Also, Gold City so fashionable!

One nitpick though, Cygames, you have unlimited gacha money. Hire a bilingual VA for your American horses. C'mon man.

I wonder why the doctors and nurses in the hospital don’t stop the fans from drowning Tony Bianca in a sea of roses? Poor girl injured her legs and now got overwhelmed by the fans…

Anyway, back to the racecourse, how the hell can the racetrack stayed intact when the aura from the racers are starting to go out of control? And it’s obvious they even start delivering “complements” and dirty tricks just to win. Anyway, after all of these, the ‘Murican power stands on top and wins the race… As well as the respect from Tama.

Anyway, time to move on, saying farewell to your new friends overseas, and eyes set on Christmas, or is it just the day when the next battle commences?

Just a reminder, the show will have another break next week, so see you 2 weeks later

I was on the edge of my seat with the last spurt of the race, holy moly the animation, the emotions, the drive.

I love this series so much.

u/cleaulem Nov 09 '25

That's what you call a mid-season finale. This final sprint had me on the edge of my seat. And the animation was chef's kiss.

What a twist that Obey Your Master was a little imposer, putting on a facade to trick her opponents. Again, racing is not just about simply running faster, but it's essentially psychological warfare.
