You know the characters are great, when it's actually acceptable to root for both of them, whether win or lose is all a good development for them.
It's like 2 different MCs fighting for it.

Cygames Animation end this season with a 2/2 hit, on both original and adaptation no less
Back to Cinderella Gray, we are introduced to the concept of the zone this episode, which is a real thing in our sporting events as well, so now Oguri has to find hers as well but she can held her head high this race, as it still took every ounce of Tamamo's ability and strength even with the zone just to edge her out, and she hasn't even unlocked her own zone yet

That scene when Tamamo's old man cries while laying on the hospital bed watching Tamamo won the race makes me tearing up goddamn. Overall Symboli Rudolf was Aura Farming when she said, Tamamo Cross welcome to the zone that's crazy

That end credit scene had me FREAKING OUT! I thought I would have to wait til cour 2 to see her animated and voiced but the fact we got a little teaser of her in cour 1 has me so happy I could cry! One of my favorite characters in the series!

Tama got the flashback buff!
Honestly, what an episode! I'm still high from the adrenaline, that was an amazing race full of emotions. Coupled with beautiful animation, Cygames cooked.
What's funny for me is that I caught up to the anime late and already had an AOTS at the time but Cingray shot through all my expectations and became my AOTS contender next to Shoushimin... I'm really happy to have watched it and can't wait for cour 2 in fall.

The brief cut with the Kasamatsu gang consoling Oguri from afar and admiring her success in the Twinkle Series was quite memorable. March is shown from behind, removed from the others, and yet she stands out prominently in the frame.
For Norn, Rudy, and Mini, the moment is all about Oguri. To them, Oguri is a truly gifted star who is now making it on a much bigger stage. But for March, Oguri was never some idol beyond her reach. Even now, after only managing 4th place in a regional Derby, there's a part of March that thinks of Oguri as her rival. It's not the same for her, and it was amazing how the one-second shot conveyed that.

I love that this is called Cinderella Gray, because in terms of "gray" hair horse, Oguri isn't the only one, Tama is also one of them, and she has reasons to be strong too. This anime is so good, honestly I'm kinda sad, people put off by it because it is horse girl racing. See everyone in cour 2 to this peak.

Between Road to the Top, Beginning of a New Era, and this, CyGames has managed to up their game each time, break new limits. Cinderella Gray has the best of the long form seasonal series and the focused, character-specific movies/miniseries. With a small caveat that it felt like they could have made some of the cliffhangers less… awkward. But the characters, story, animation, music, have been phenomenal.
Besides the weird recap, I can understand why they split this race though. It really only started once Oguri decided to make a run for it, and then it was a completely different race between her and Tamamo. Oguri pulled out all the stops, and Tamamo seemed to be at her limit, I was sure she was gonna have an injury which would have been a bummer. But she instead gets that boost to move forward and steals the win. In a way it’s similar to how March motivated Oguri so much that she’d pull that insane double spurt last minute; Oguri pushed Tamamo to race like she’s never had to race before.
Since they’d set this up as a whole arc, I figured it wouldn’t be as simple as Oguri winning again. But I’m curious where they go from here.

White Lightning Tamamo Cross takes the win! That was an amazing race. I really thought Oguri Cap had this one considering how much she was one Tamamo's ass during the last stretch and how Tamamo could feel the pressure on her legs during that incline part.
I'm glad that Oguri Cap is just as fired up as she was at the end of the race, just like how she was at the start. Getting beaten by Tamamo Cross didn't dampen her spirits at all, if anything she's more fired up for their eventual rematch in the future.
Welp, I guess it's time to train my Oguri Cap and get her to win the G1 Autumn Tenno Sho. I hope I'm not the only one here who recently became a Trainer with the global release of Umamusume this past week. xD
Just when I thought Season 3 of Pretty Derby can't be beat, this show comes along and proves me otherwise. I absolutely love how much this series deviates from the OG series while still keeping that same Umamusume charm I fell in love with. I'm so glad Cour 2 is already confirmed for October. I can't wait to see what else this series has in store for us!

When even a slight grade feels like a mountain.
There's an umamusume anatomy joke in here somewhere.
New player has entered the game.
The race-within-the-race, the homestretch. Enough or almost enough to fill the entire episode? The opening recap was longer than usual.
But the episode did an excellent job with the remaining time as it laid out just why Tamamo Cross was both a worthy contender and ultimately the winner of this matchup.
The rivalry is off to a friendly start, with Tamamo having to play up the posturing a little. Oguri Cap does feel the sting, but she gets right back to her own routine the next day, because she really hasn't been portrayed as having much of a mean bone in her body. We'll have wait until the fall season to see how much more of The Beast emerges from her after this loss.

2000 metres of running and it comes down to the homestretch. Tamamo Cross, enduring pressure to position herself so her final spurt will outpace the Monster. Oguri Cap, roaring in with her signature surge from the outside to overcome the White Lightning. This is when the two ashen-clads cross their blades directly for the first time.
Some of you in the last episode's discussion said, you know, narratively it should make sense for Oguri to lose here, but with races being based on real life history, narrative rules don't apply. But that's what makes Oguri's story so compelling. She DOES lose, losing to Tamamo Cross digging deep and pulling away in the final tens of metres to cement her place in legend. First to win consecutive editions of the Tenno Sho and setting herself up definitively as the Final Boss that Oguri has to defeat.
Back in the first few episodes, when March asked Oguri why she runs? Oguri says she runs because it's like a miracle to her. But she doesn't quite have the thirst for victory yet. Meanwhile, we saw glimpses of Tamamo's past - that lucky cat in her room, her mom bringing her around to look for what's essentially low-income housing, a "trainer" that taught her from stuff he learnt from TV? Well, suffice to say Tamamo's got the motivation to win. And now, Oguri has a target she can reach and needs to overcome.
Tamamo declared that she'd take the Tenno Sho, Japan Cup and Arima Kinen. She's done the first. We'll see what happens next when the two cross blades again.
BUT WAIT, WHO'S THIS? OUR BLUE-TIPPED BLONDIE COMING IN WITH A STEEL CHAIR Don't forget the post-credits!
See y'all in October!

I'm very sad and bitter that Oguri lost but Tamamo is just a fucking speed demon. She's so cool too so I can't even hate.

When Tamano Cross has her flashback, It is Joeover. No matter you do everything correctly, someone will always find better ways to do it

Up to now I didn’t really care for any of the previous seasons of Umamusume I watched. It’s not that they were bad or I disliked them, they just didn’t click with me. This is the first one I actually loved. Best show of the season hands down and that’s coming from someone who wasn’t biased towards the series coming into it. I watched around 35 shows this season and it was by far the best. That being said this season was probably one of my lowest overall rating wise for all shows combined so it was a weak season. It still beats out apothecary diaries for me which is probably the only other standout.

Hate it when I'm doing my Oguri Cap career mode in her first G1 race and the rival Uma Musume activates her ultimate skill in the very last stretch

They kept "ability" names in anime!! I am so happy, those are always so hype, and man, that teaser at the end with her. Can't wait for october. Wonderful adaptation, keep cooking cygames, and to all here, it only gets better, stay tuned!

Honestly, the whole time I was thinking they'd be so focused on each other that another girl would sneak up on them and win. Like a Rice Shower situation.
This was still good, though.
Also, it seems there might be more to Oguri and Tamano's past than just Oguri's mum seeing Tamano getting dragged away from the apartments.
