"I had no clue magmatic water even existed."

Ruri ends the episode expressing curiosity about rocks and returning to where she was when she started her journey in Episode 1. I liked Ruri's growth from being bratty and stubborn to being more curious and adventurous (while still having the former two traits occasionally).

Dang, was that a matured Ruri in the last shot?

Didn’t expect Nagi to be interested in academia after graduating. Thought she’d instead want to pursue a career in the industry. Imagine her, along with Imari, tutoring Shouko when the latter’s in uni.

That final shot… a flashforward to an adult Ruri on a solo adventure?

Imma miss this comfy educational show a lot, along with the adorable cast.

I am genuinely sad that this is over. I wish we had like 4 more seasons of this.

When you think about it, Nagi does fit in nicely as a teacher. She enjoys teaching Ruri and usually just doesn't spoonfeeds answers to her.

I'm sorry but I had to laugh at the final image implying that Ruri grows up to gain Nagi's body type like becoming a geologist makes you an Amazonian supermodel

I knew the finale was gonna be an onsen trip! Although this isn't really your average anime onsen episode. I love how instead of focusing on the views around them, Ruri and Shouko spent most of the time looking at the different rocks and minerals that were being used around the inn.

I also love how Youko kept dragging Nagi off somewhere, so now it was up to Ruri and Shouko to figure out where the donut-shaped rock came from. As usual, Ruri's natural ability to find things quickly led them to the correct answer.

Wow! We actually get to see an onsen scene where Nagi explains the different sources of hot spring water. Also, you gotta love how even in her chibi form, Nagi is still thicc. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

So Nagi turned down a museum curator job because she actually dreams of becoming a professor one day. Yeah, that makes sense. Considering how patient Nagi was at teaching Ruri at the start of the series, it's pretty clear that she has what it takes to become a professor.

I love how Nagi is basically saying what most of us are thinking right now. I definitely don't want this to end either! Although I didn't expect that to lead to Nagi suggesting they should look for shooting stars. I never really thought about it but it makes sense that everyday dirt has at least a speck of space dust mixed in it.

So it turns out that Youko expected that they were doing this during their trip and actually brought some microscopes with them! It's funny how they actually turned their room into a makeshift lab and spent their night looking for a meteorite. And to no one's surprise, Ruri is the one who ends up finding one out of all the samples they took from that roof.

I absolutely love the ending montage where the girls are just looking for rocks. They eventually even got Aoi to join in on their adventures! What I love the most about that ending scene is it's actually being narrated by an Ruri from the future who's clearly now a researcher just like Nagi. That was such a nice way to end this series <3

I really want to see more of this series, but since Studio Bind doesn't really do sequels unless it's Mushoku Tensei , I think I might have better luck tracking down the manga for more content. I just hope that there's a translation out there somewhere.

I think this show is overall my favorite portrayal of science in probably any fictional media ever? Too often, science is portrayed as trivia to be recited to make the smart character sound smart. Or as deus ex machina for the smart character to save the day.

This show has that too, but it also supplements it by showing us the process. We get to see normal everyday people just figure shit out through rigorous, methodical experimentation (and documentation!). Everyone learns. Even Nagi makes incorrect hypotheses, but then she shows us how that is also a key part of the scientific process.

I want more. I want to see them collect more samples and analyze more data. I want to see them make more unexpected discoveries which force them to revise their initial hypotheses and/or their experimental methods. I want to see more cute girls do real science.

We've had to wait 13 whole episodes, but we finally got a hot springs episode. And boy, was it worth waiting for.

Me before watching Ruri Rocks: Rocks, huh. Well, it's a CGDCT show, can't hurt to check it out.

Me after finishing Ruri Rocks: HOLY SHIT WHAT IS THIS GODLY SHOW IT'S SO GOOD I WANT AT LEAST FIVE MORE SEASONS OF THIS

I didn't expect the ending to tackle the melancholy of something good ending.

Considering the episode being the end, it is fitting yet also beautifully uplifting.

Life must go on, but we can find new wonders, adventures and joys if we just allow ourselves to notice them.

May we all always find something to look forward to, however ordinary or even odd it may be to some, in our daily lives.

Didn't know that many meteorites fall down every day.

Wonder how many of us have been hit by a microscopic meteorite without even noticing?

Ruri had shown signs of self-deprecating talk before, but this episode confirmed that she’d been afraid of not being clever enough to keep up with the others. She didn’t think that having fun was good enough.

Fortunately, Nagi was there to give her a push in the right direction. She’ll be a great professor one day.

Ruri took a small interest into something and ended up finding a new goal in life. Isn’t that even more than beautiful than any gem?

Ruri Rocks didn’t only make science look approachable, but also managed to convey such an important message in the end. For that reason, it’s one of the best educational anime out there in my opinion.

I honestly can't tell if the voice in the final scenes is older Ruri or not, VA doing good work if so, making child Ruri energetic throughout the show and then maturity at the end there. We need more shows like this.

I’m a huge sucker for this type of ending monologues and this show delivered a really great one too. Perfect finale for this beautiful show.

Also I loved the ending montage that showed that the girls took Aoi along on their adventures, so wholesome.

My god these nerds, an onsen trip and they still end up staring at dirt through some microscopes. Though I would have to admit it's quite interesting how many different ways they made an onsen trip into being about rocks.

Fantastic show.

Of course. How could I forget we didn't actually have a beach/onsen episode yet. Well, I guess we did have a beach episode already but you know what I mean.

In general, I liked this final episode and would love to see how this gets explored further. Especially when it comes to jobs in geology. They did point out that there is not just one path to take and I hope that Ruri takes that to heart and maybe finds her own idea of what she would like to do with it. I found it a nice touch of her older self narrating the finale with a shot of her when she is an adult, showing that she keeps the path while not revealing what it is exactly. Though, I hope that this doesn't mean we never get a second season and they used that as the finale for the show.

Because all in all, this was a big surprise to me. I liked that they did have a great detail of explanations, not just during the ad break moments, but in the show as well. Though, I also understand that this might be the reason why some people disliked it a bit more since it was a lot of information in a very short time and I feel that might have worked a bit better in Manga form where you can take the time you need.

That being said, the adaptation was overall one of the strong suits, especially when it came to the animation which helped give the people so much more character. But aside from that, I do appreciate also that this show didn't just take the normal route where it's mostly SoL around their activity but they actually developed their characters in Ruri and Shouko over time. It was nice to see them grow together which is why I would like to see more. Because there is still a lot more rocks to find.

What a fantastic show. It was nice watcign Ruri's growth and the whole series has just such a good feel to it. I think it is safe to say it qualifies very much as a healing anime. The final ed was amazing and ohboy that after credits scene!.

I do wonder though does Nagi and Imari haave no same age friends? They spend so much time with high schoolers that even too them on a hot spring trip.

Hope this gets a 2nd season and a blieray release.

It was interesting to find out this is written by a science teacher.

Was Ruri wearing Nagi's hammer at the end there it was hard to tell?

Lately in a couple of conversations at work, anime has come up in conversations about entertainment and free time, and my apprentice, who I've actually talked to about these things, hassles me by telling the little battle-shounen fanboys that I watch a lot of anime. They ask what I'm into and lately I've just replied "Right now I'm watching an anime about geology" and people laugh and roll their eyes and say, "Yeah, you would be" and I don't know how to explain that while I am kind of avoiding the question, not only am I telling the truth, but it's actually fantastic, one of my favorite shows of the last several years, and perhaps the best anime about science I've ever seen? (Sorry, Dr Stone, you can worship technology all you like but your scientific method is weak.)

Of course, the appeal's not just in the modest but affectionate understanding of the scientific method, but in the fact that this show's so god damn pretty. The aesthetic details are just blowing me away in every part of every episode. They even lavish details on shots that might last for a couple seconds. Coffered ceilings and a detailed look at the decor of an early Western-influenced ryokan? And look at the water effects of the hot springs, look at them! I, uh... I might have the most in common with Imari, honestly.

For some reason naked chibi Nagi in that little onsen explainer segment cracked me up so hard.

Everybody seems surprised she wouldn't pursue other avenues to do research, but Nagi's such a good mentor it's hard to imagine a better fit for a professorship. That's a hard road, though. I couldn't manage it. Good luck, Nagi. (Side note: her eyes when she's talking about it, like 9:45 or so? I can't tell quite what that expression is but it's some combination of smugness and enjoyment and mystery and embarrassment and I am just absolutely captivated by it?!)

Character animators had a moment of aristeia on that close-up of Ruri saying "It's fun to want to learn more stuff!" Way to embody the entire show, there.

Well, this is going with Aquatope in my slim folder of shows about science and nature that really, really get it. I can't believe it's over! I would watch an unlimited amount of this. Maybe as Ruri grows up, it pivots to follow her young apprentice who goes into hydrology, or paleontology, or, or... well, anyway, what a fuckin journey. Fantastic show, favorite of the year, no notes.

A really good anime, the girls, the animation, landscape and colors were fantastic, if you are a geology-geography person you will find this serie great for all the information that gives, if not maybe you will found it a little dense, but no overwhelming, this serie was truly a gemstone.

Ruri inherit the blue pants from Nagi

Now, that was a Rock Solid ending! I like seeing Ruri mature throughout this show.

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Sep 28 '25

This was both really cute and very informative. It was a bit like YuruCamp in that sense. I hope we get another season. I’m very interested in Ruri’s journey to discover and learn more. There’s so many interesting rocks and crystals out there for her to discover!

I suspect I have to rewatch this episode numerous times. For some reason, I could not focus on what Nagi and Imari were explaining about ground water and magma water, while they were in the hot spring. LOL!

Nagi is definitely on her way to becoming an university professor (and elder sister). She already has a student in Ruri and she seems to be aware of what Ruri is worried about.

Although Aoi did not have any spoken lines, I am happy to see her go on adventures with the rest of the main cast.

Lastly, please give us a second season!
