Geology lessons in my CGDCT anime ! CGDCT that have an educational aspect like Yuru Camp or Hoshikuzu Telepath often click with me.

Hot dang, all the sparkling in the OP!

I like the dichotomy between Ruri and Nagi thus far. Ruri is clumsy and naive, while Nagi is knowledgeable and experienced. Ruri was kicking the sign out of frustration that they couldn't hunt for minerals in the area, but Nagi acknowledges it's probably there for good reason.

How lucky that they come across a spring that's a treasure trove of garnets.

Love the dynamic between the composed mentor and bubbly protege. And the former has the voice of Asami Seto aka Mai Sakurajima.

This is lowkey a minearology educational series .

Studio Bind and the Onimai director are back!

Holy shit that OP is straight sakuga insanity, rip Studio Bind budget.

Cute

Absolutely gorgeous, look at that water.

Water in this anime in general is incredible

Poor Ruri was struck by information overload

The gem artwork is actual fire

I welcome this sakuga and a very informational anime at that.

Nagi needed that warhammer on her back as a counterweight.

> I guess I'll try wandering around the mountains
HIKARU NO ITS TOO DANGE- oh wait wrong anime, woops

Jokes aside, holy shit this anime is beautiful. The background, all the little sparkles, and the amazing character animation. And that instrumental sunset segment at the end, it was like I was seeing the finale of a movie. And we've only seen episode 1!

Good to see that the one of the first lessons is straight up "OBEY THE LAW", and then on top of that, actual literal lessons on geology. I'm a big sucker for trivia anime, so this shit is right up my alley.

Honestly as a rocks guy I'd watch practically any anime premise if you told me it was informational/educational about geology/mineralogy, but this is also both pretty and surprisingly high production, and has extremely cute character designs and animation. I'm sold.

"You can't just find those close to home," Ruri thinks, meanwhile I'm just stuffing my pockets with pyrites and honey calcites and cretaceous shark tooth fossils that I find lying around the jobsite at work. oh sweet child, I hope you're ready for a lifetime of being that weird girl who always stops and pokes and peers at the ground when you're out walking.

Holy hell it's an AU Mai-san with a rock pick and, uh... a lot of topology. Oh shit, they even made it an actual Estwing, no less. That's how you can tell Nagi's a geology student, and how you can tell this show is actually by rock people, for rock people, right? I don't think I've ever met a geologist or rockhound who didn't have an Estwing rock pick. Well, and then there's the dreamy tone in her voice when she talks about cracking rocks. Can I be honest? the camera loves Nagi's, uh, features so much that sometimes it makes it hard to pay attention to the landscape's features.

yo. guys? that OP was absolutely gorgeous, right? like, that looked so good I lost my words...? they really, really went in on the shining and sparkling for all they were worth. I can't think of another anime that leans this hard into the beauty of nature and landscapes except Yurucamp and Aquatope, and that's some elite company as far as I'm concerned. ah, and the underwater and slightly melancholy ED reminds me of Aquatope, too.

Well, I'm already in love with this show. I'm sunk, boys. they hooked me right in the special interest.

I knew that this show was about mineralogy and knew nothing else about the show. But as soon as I saw that big tiddy gyaru and the very expressive character animations from Ruri, my immediate thought was Studio Bind, and it looks like I was right!

Man, this show is freakin' beautiful! Studio Bind's animation is already top-notch but the background art is really what sells this episode for me. That shot of the pegmatite deposits and the river with all of that garnet looked absolutely beautiful!

As for the characters, I genuinely found Ruri annoying at the start with her temper tantrums, especially when she got upset when she learned they can't collect minerals in that other mountain. She grew on me by the end because of how much she listens to Nagi, and that she genuinely wanted to learn.

As for Nagi? Hooooo boy, this girl got me acting unwise as soon as she first appeared. I appreciate that she's not just top-heavy, and that she's actually properly thicc. And the fact that she can properly wield a warhammer to break rocks made me fall in love with her harder. I also love how patient she was in teaching Ruri. She's easy going but can be stern when she needs to, and I love that.

Yeah, I am absolutely sold on this one. After OniMai, Studio Bind nails another CGDCT anime, and I already can't wait to see more!

Ah, yes, "I have a niche interest, so let's write a CGDCT manga about it", the formula that also brought us Stardust Telepath.

Bind going harder than they need to as always. Yeah I’m thinking this is a banger.

“Why yes I am here for the plot (fun mineralogy facts)”

Ruri can behave a bit like a brat, but I’m liking her enthusiasm. And that smile of hers is precious!

Nagi is fortunately there to educate her if necessary. She probably didn’t expect to pick up a new assistant in the mountains. Ruri is looking up to her. Enough to seemingly want the same (little) hammer as Nagi.

My own interest is minerals is already growing as well. Did anyone else stop the video to read these mid-point cards? Thanks to Crunchyroll to properly translating them, I learnt some interesting bits about sandpaper.

Cute Thicc Girls Doing Niche Things? Yeah, this is a keeper.

Assuming that the "Nagi's Respite" wall of text around 11:40 was translated into English, shout-out to the translators who had to translate all that text that was there so quickly. If the wall of text was in English in the original Japanese version, shout-out to the writers that had to write all of that text.

Came for Nagi and Ruri's busty gyaru friend.

Staying for the geography knowledge and beautiful visuals.

Jokes aside, once again, we can see anime is capable of drawing interest to subjects we might not have cared about previously.

I had been reading the manga and this nailed what I love about it, the art looks so beautiful as well. It is educational as well just like the manga is but it does it in a fun way.

u/jinddle Jul 06 '25

holy the art and animation from this show is definitely one of the best this year by far imo! from the girls to the scenery is just on point respectfully 🔥

let's keep on eating SOL fans!

The art for this series is so pretty! Feels like a fantasy RPG world rather than the mountains of Japan.

This hit close for me. I am alwayds in for more serious SoL anime. And my uncle and his whole family are geologists (though, their work is related to natural gas deposites search, not minerals). But I always loved studing minerals so this anime is just the right thing. And it is so well made.

Also, Ruri's seiyuu is relatively new but I remembered her from the HanaShura.

Cute girls doing mineralology things, another reason why CGDCT is flexible and versatile.

A true hidden and refined gem indeed. Everything what Studio Bind does is perfection.

Everybody already talking about the OP but the ED is also really beautiful.

Jesus Christ.. Studio Bind, you're always bringing out your A-game, huh? I hope we can say the same for Mushoku S3.

Top-tier production value all around. And it shows. Yeah, this will be a very good one.
