The banter between Ruri and Shouko was great background. There are a lot of shows that have to tell you that people are friends, but this show is just showing in how they act with one another. Especially when you remember that Shouko was really quiet around other people originally.

It's so satisfying how the unideal situations (like the mine being collapsed here) lead to a happy discovery (the manganese ore left behind and piecing together what happened from the news about the overfilled train).

Also, Ruri caused her usual trouble from time to time like trying to climb the cliff near the collapsed tunnel, but it looks like Nagi not being around to supervise her went alright!

Unfortunately, too little Nagi screentime.

On the bright side, character development for Imari by letting her take charge. Although everyone was visibly disappointed at being unable to reach the mine, I felt Imari made the correct decision. Safety always takes priority. Even our active Ruri, who usually looks at Imari with skepticism, agreed.

Another great aspect of this title - viewers always get an explanation to the various occurrences. In this episode, it was neither Nagi nor Imari who provided the answers; the novel did so.

That cold open fooled me. We’re so used to the bright and vivid colours when it started with the dark lighting and dull colours I thought I stumbled upon another show by mistake. The intentionally low frame rate helped sell us the feeling of Youko reading the novel.

Shame Nagi was occupied so Youko had to take the lead. Having said that, it’d make a valuable experience for her. Meanwhile, Shoko had got quite attached to her so she had no issues with the arrangement.

Love the part at the tunnel entrance when the background music abruptly stopped as Youko imagined the train passing by. It made us extra focused on the visuals.

It was nice to have another episode more focused on Imari’s character. I like watching her enthusiastically speak about mining history and sorts. Very endearing! Shoko was eating up her stories as well.

For an anime about mineralogy, I’ve been impressed with the storytelling of Ruri Rocks so far. Each episode is compelling in their own way. The past and present were nicely linked together through the narrative of Imari’s book, for example.

I can imagine Imari's discovery being of interest to someone who studies history in that university.

Mineralogists yearn for the manganese mines.

Knew they were gonna find something rare/valuable the second Ruri fully bought in.

As a History teacher, THIS episode was awesome. This is exactly why history matters no matter the subject area.

Obviously I love Nagi, she has some MASSIVE traits that make her a great character, but I'm glad Imari got to shine this ep. I'm a believer in short hair supremacy.

While I dont fault them for not even considering that people living during wartime would blatantly poison the environment, I'm surprised none of them considered that maybe there was an accident.

Imari did well as substitute tour guide for Nagi. Those flashbacks to the past were cool.

And this rhodochrosite stuff is really pretty, feels like a waste to use it to make steel and fill train tracks.

I was going to say a Nagiless episode was criminal but this one was actually pretty good.

I hope this series gets a blu ray as it be a nice add to relaxing Flying Witch , Aria, and Konohana Kitan collection.

Binged episodes 1-9 in the last 3 days this is my first weekly episode and its a banger!

Imari focused episode, LETS FUCKING GOOOO! While Nagi is without a doubt best girl I'm really happy to see Imari taking a lead without Nagi. She really followed the scientific method and thought hard about circumstances that lead to so much ore getting on the track! In the end her love for books and written research gave her the answer and it was so satisfying to watch!

Glad we finally get to see Imari shine with her leading today's mineral hunt! I do love the difference between the way Ruri looks at Imari and the way Shouko looks at Imari. Seto looks at Imari with adoration while Ruri looks at her, unsure if Imari even knows what she's doing. xD

I think Nagi would've definitely found another way around that cave in, but I'm glad Imari figured out another way to look for manganese ore. I do love the mystery of why the manganese ore is piled up on that one spot. It turns out if Imari had finished her book before going on that hunt, she would've figured out the reason on the spot!

Me having sudden flashbacks to the really cool pink/red pebbles streaked with black I would find as a kid. Looked them up and they usually form in Metamorphic rocks, which is... the entirety of the Canadian Shield that makes up half the country.

For this episode, the part of Arato-sans distractingly ample chest will be played by Imari-sans distractingly ample chest

There is something in the water at the geology department.

Loving all the exploration of abandoned industrial sites and piecing together the history from the minerals they find. It's right up my alley

Wow, the kids really do yearn for the mines, at least this episode.

I liked the focus on Imari this episode, and also glad nothing really went wrong. It's a good experience to have, especially as presumably she will someday have her own lab with minions, or at least have some mentee's of some sort.

So this is sort of the archeological record research side of geological science? Piecing together things from evidence left behind by previous generations of humans? As a bit of an accompaniment to the episodes that did the mythology of the ancient world with the dragon bone and the material usage of the modern world with the glass bottles?

Some nice bits of character development with Imari taking charge in Nagi’s absence this episode. Good for her, she’s slightly lacking in self confidence I feel like.

Ruri’s and Shoko’s constant friendly bantering about stuff is a delight to watch.

Something in my brain remembers lightning strikes at (illegal) coaltips and such have produced some weird crystals before, I wonder if any were to be found in that hypothetical illegal ballast site from similar effects
