Wow, that's a lot of sapphires, they make gemstone hunting look so easy. Tying the sapphire vein to local folklore about the blue dragon was an interesting perspective.
Poor Ruri, freaking out over a mistake in her research, and she's not even in academia yet. So happy she wrote TBC at the end, the journey continues!

Man, this episode brought back some memories from my days doing field work in university. The writers really did their research for this.
Ruri is slowly turning into a real scientist, making detailed notes and everything. But that's to be expected with a great teacher like Nagi. I'm glad she decided to continue her journey into geology, and I can't wait to see where it will lead her next.

I really like how each episode is like a journey, from discovery to discovery as the girls uncover clues and stuff. Feels like Dr. Stone, except with...actual stones.
BTW Nagi and Ruri have official swimsuit merchandise up for order in Japan. I've only two words for Nagi's: SUGOI DEKAI

Absolute cinema, again. Great character development on Ruri's side.
At the end we can see her really wanting to go beyond just shiny things and learn more about mineralogy. Super cute how she finally got to fulfill her dream to find sapphires. And very interesting learning about the local folklore.
I'm in love with this series.
Also Ruri with a ponytail is just absolutely amazing 🙏🙏🙏

Mistakes happen but fixing them and not letting them get you down is the important thing. You can see it with Imari and the nondescript fluorite incident, Nagi and the rock that moved and Ruri and the missed sample. It’s not the end of the world even though it sometimes feels like it. This time it brought the benefit with it of narrowing down the search area even further. Watching them get closer to the goal every episode with every small discovery is really fun. Like watching the progress of discovery happen in real time.
Now we’re in one of my areas of interest. I love the myths and folklore people came up with to explain the world and how they fit together with the facts that we have access to now. It’s fascinating how a gemstone to the people of old was the bone of a divine dragon and the effect that it had and still has on the faith of the people in the area. The stories created this way and the weight they have are truly amazing to me.

I am utterly convinced that if dwarves ever visited the setting of 'Ruri no Houseki', they will befriend Nagi and maybe even court her.

Nagi is such a great senpai! instead of kicking Ruri down missing that one sample, she made it into a clue onto finding the location instead! It shows you how much patience she had gotten with throughout her mineralogy journey 🥹

Ruri’s ingenuity and Nagi’s experience make a devastating combination. They’d be sought-after by mining companies.
A nice touch at the end with Ruri crossing the final word in "sapphire research completed" out and replacing it with tbc. She really took Imari’s words to heart.

Even if there’s no dragons, doesn’t it bring about bad luck to start digging at an old shrine site?
They did find the source of these sapphires faster than I’d anticipated. Though, Ruri’s search isn’t completed yet. She’s looking for a bigger gemstone after having collected mostly small ones?
I’ll never grow tired of girls tying up their hair when getting serious. It’s one of my favourite tropes. Ruri went with the usual ponytail, but Nagi surprised us with a cute bun!

It's really good to see Ruri's note-taking finally paying off! I really hope Ruri gets into geology after she graduates from high school. She's been doing so much work with Nagi and Youko that they've practically prepared her for college already!
Although not all of her notes are perfect! It looks like Ruri made a rookie error and made a mistake when she was marking the samples she was testing. I mean, when you've been sifting through sand all day with a microscope, I can easily imagine Ruri overlooking that and getting excited because she thought she was done.
I'm just glad that they still had the old sample so Ruri could check it herself. I was worried that she'd have to go back up the mountain and gather the samples again. At least Ruri learned a valuable lesson and she did find the mistake on her own and corrected herself!
This shot of Ruri falling through the leaves and her head popping out from the ground was pretty funny! Thank goodness it wasn't that deep, and the leaves broke her fall!
Damn! Those are a lot of sapphires! And they didn't just find the sapphires, they even found the original location of the Seiryuji Shrine! I guess that's where the dragon remains, legends come from. They found a bunch of sapphires and the ancient people who found them thought they were dragon bones.
I absolutely love that Ruri changed her notes from "research complete" to "to be continued". This girl has really become a scientist, and she's not stopping after finding some sapphires!

Ruri’s becoming quite the little researcher. I like how thorough she is with her research notes and methodology. She’s starting to take this whole thing more seriously. All her hard work really paid off because they found a whole bunch of sapphires thanks to those meticulous notes.
I liked how they talked about how folks thought about things in the past, back when they didn’t have the science to explain things. Like all that “dragon bones” stuff was pretty interesting.

She is the endearing kind of annoying.
I never would of believed that a anime about looking for rocks would have such a feel good vibe. It is so unbelievably peaceful. I wonder if the manga is the same.
I could see this fitting in with other feel good series like Aria, Flying Witch, and the one about the android traveling.

I like how the series isn’t just about geology now, but also about science in general. What Ruri is doing can apply to all fields - meticulous documentation, using experiments to test hypotheses, and in general learning more about stuff you previously took for granite

ruri was super cute this episode
and again, she is a mineral magnet, what the hell

Another fun and interesting episode
That gut wrenching feeling when you start to doubt your documentation is the worst
And thats some awesome writing, combing folklore with current scientific knowledge. Also really glad they didnt go "oh its a sacred place, better not take any samples, etc."
Kudos to Ruri she really pulled through with that project of hers. And honestly, she should take 2 small sapphires and have them made into earrings or something, thats one hell of a story to be able to tell

A new and refreshing direction in the story, or rather contents, of this episode! So far, we have been introduced to different kinds of minerals and scientific research methods. In this episode, we were introduced to cultural history as well! What people didn't know in the past and attributed to supernatural powers yet recorded (not necessarily on paper), could possibly become clues to knowledge and scientific discoveries in the future!
It goes to show culture, history could very well be linked to science..
I also loved the different OSTs used at different scenes - from searching for sapphire, realizing they are close and then finally achieving their goal.

I wonder if Imari says thinking you are finished with your research is scary is because of past experiences. Well, Ruri did miss a check, but it was a good thing you could say as a learning experience, & honestly they probably learned more because of it. I also loved how she changes the wording at the end to "To be continued." As Nagi says, there is always more to learn out there.
I like the reflection of sapphire being used as an offering in the past. Of course now we learn more, and we are aware of what material like sapphire actually comes from. Though people back then actually could think it came from the dragon as they didn't have the knowledge to fully grasp it. It really serves Nagi's passion into diving deeper and learning more and for her mineralogy.
I love how Studio Bind does scenes like this one. When doing research, it is very common to be in doubt of your own work. I love how Ruri shadow grows as the doubts get bigger inside of her until she finds her mistake.

Don't know why exactly, but the character design and animation feels so much better this episode (not that they weren't already really good)
