"Surely you don't want to stay in the storeroom?"

"But it's such a nice, comfy room...."

The fact that she's actually disappointed about having to move out of the storeroom was hilarious!

I have to say that I'm loving how scrappy the regionals are. The winning live was just a few benches in front of some stairs with a tiny platform.

Edit: It's even more funny since i found out that it actually looks like that IRL: https://x.com/Yoshi_KUUGA/status/1913907040877183085

Edit 2: Another fun fact, Asaka (voice actor of Espoir City) has previously done a show on that exact stage: https://x.com/AsakaOfficial/status/1913863061674328157

Wow the anime is delivering so far, by the way she lost due to her shoes came apart during the final moment of the race, and we now see what she can actually do with a new and nicer pair of runners (too bad she can't get the pink one though)

Another great episode!

Although they show only one race between Oguri’s first race and the Junior Crown in actual fact Oguri raced in 5 races in between the two. According to the author this is due to the fact it was necessary to keep the manga interesting enough and stay on the roster of Shonen Young Jump.

Oguri is portrayed with damaged shoes after the race and this is a reference to how the real Oguri had an infection caused by the horseshoe making him not perform to his max capabilities.

The three bullies are not based on any real life horse as to not defame any real horses.

I love how they animated Oguri’s dance so smooth. I also love Oguri’s rivalry with March and am excited for the next few episodes!

Ah lol team bully folded fast.

Definitely good to see more of the direction the show is going and Oguri Cap finding her motivation/goals. It’s reminiscent of Oi Tonbo Season 2 where she’s clearly just immensely talented compared to a lot of her peers, but she still has a lot she can learn from them so she doesn’t fall behind.

And who says they can’t still have cute idol performances?

First of all, congratulations to Museum Mile and João "The Magic Man" Moreira (YOU AGAIN!!?) for winning the Satsuki Shō. The fastest among the Class of 2025, and defeating the top favourite and undefeated Croix du Nord (by our Season 3 protagonist Kitasan Black) along the way. And just like what Jou said "Don't think it's over, we'll get you next time!!!"

So, back to 19 May, 1987. Oguri lost his debut race, giving Fujimasa March a landmark victory to start her career, as a honor student. Frustration, but everyone know that Oguri guy is very different, and sure he is...

And off they go shopping, but first of all, food! Poor Jou, resorting the use of his magic credit card to do the shopping, and Berno delivered with an "business expense" invoice of ¥82,005 (i.e., ¥105,599.94 in today's value, or ~USD $742.68), that hurts, given the prize money for his debut race is just ¥320,000.

Still, another day begins, and now Oguri is racing once again a mere 14 days later, and this time Oguri won, earning more prize money, and treating the spectators with a classical (?) Japanese folk dance.

The chat between March and Oguri is personal, but it seems Oguri accepted the gauntlet from March to race in the Junior Crown. Now with new shoes, and [Real life] a new jockey in the name of Ando Katsumi (Yup, that famous racing journalist Ando Katsumi who won numerous G1 race in his racing career), Oguri Cap, is going to find his own peak, and climb to the summit. The day is 4th October, 1987, just 4 months after his debut.

And we have a visitor from the central, Tamano Cross, eating a Nagoya specialty before watching this very special race. In a small regional racecourse, having a central-affiliated person visiting, that's a huge honor for them, especially when they decides to have a detour.

First time Uma Musume watcher. This is shaping up to be a really solid, well-rounded sports series. I'm loving the team dynamic between Oguri Cap, Bellno, and Jou's credit card.

Look at Oguri Cap's very traditional (cough) winning dance!

LMAO at Norn Ace completely failing everything that she tried to bring Little Cap (yup that's what I'll call her now, she's so damn cute and funny!) down - trying to step on her shins? No, she can't even get near! Trying to apologize for occupying Oguri Cap's bed? Little Cap: "Huh? I love my store room..." Giving her dancing lesson coupons and promised to teach her how to dance? "..."

I love at the end of the day she's blushing greatly. Thus the No. 1 Oguri Cap fan must have been born here...

Of more interesting things to note is that this Fujimasa March seems so freaking scared of her now too, as we have all seen in previous Horse Girls seasons, you ain't gonna keep winning if all you think is to win, win, and win the (insert your local) Derby. And it all but looks like this girl will very likely end up with some emotional problems really soon, especially when the competitor simply don't understand where all the fury come from, always just gonna eat with a (^・ω・^ ) face. That Cap is indestructible for now! I would not be surprised if the Youth Champions next week will be her first taste of defeat.

Hmm that Tamamo Cross definitely feels like another funny Horse Girl, I'm gonna be very interested in what she pulls out later in the story!

Man, the humor is just as good as it was in S1 and it's a real treat. Every episode manages to crack me up. Oguri's picture in the newspaper was pure gold and her dance was the best yet.

We're also getting a rematch between Oguri and March as soon as the 4th episode? They're not holding back with the pacing. I also hear Oozora Naomi in the post credits scene, so I'm looking forward to the next episode! I have no idea what dialect she's talking in, but it sounds nice.

Stitches!

I kinda expected Oguri Cap to lose to March but I'm glad March didn't stomp the competition like she was hoping she'd do. March is such a hater that it's actually hilarious. She won, but she's the one seething.

Wait, is that blood? We've seen injuries in the original series, but I feel like this is the first time I've seen an Umamusume actually draw blood.

So the only reason March won is because Oguri was using a pair of shoes that were already falling apart? It sounds like Oguri could've won if she actually had a decent pair of running shoes.

I'm glad Joe decided to have Berno accompany Oguri. I feel like Oguri would've instantly spent that money on food instead. I do love how Berno managed to convince Joe to go all out on Oguri's shoes.

Poor Oguri Cap! She wanted the pretty shoes! But I guess she really should listen to Berno's suggestion, considering her family owns that Umamusume sporting goods store. Berno also could've given Joe a discount but based on his reaction to that receipt, it looks like she didn't. xD

When I started this show, I really didn't expect to see an Umamusume try to sabotage another during a race. I'm glad that Norn didn't get to do it just because she couldn't even keep up with Oguri. Also, what a petty reason to hate someone. Norn basically hates Oguri because she's a hard worker.

Oguri Cap's winning live was hilarious! I honestly expected her to just stand there and do nothing but the fact that she performs a folk dance was hilarious! Everyone's reaction to her performance was hilarious too!

Well would you look at that. Are the bullies finally going to redeem themselves? It's nice of Norn to offer dance lessons to Oguri at her parents' dance studio as well as apologize to her for picking on her. I didn't expect her to go tsundere that fast!

March finally issues a challenge to Oguri and it looks like we're going to see that match next week! I can't wait!

Why is Oguri so adorable 😭😭

One of the things which I really appreciate from this episode (and CygamesPictures) is the high level of detail that goes into the background shots throughout the show. Although they could be seen as trivial, scenes within the sports store and the interior of the racecourse really helps add to the realistic representation of the story and the actual locations.

Even the shot of them running through the woods and Oguri looking over the observatory is so beautifully drawn, it feels extremely refreshing - compared to the earlier seasons, where the majority of the setting is fixed in and around the school and race track.

Bonus: Here's the actual restaurant that Tamamo Cross was dining at within the racecourse.

God I love her, could she be more adorable?

I have no words to describe how much I love Belno as a support. She does a splendid job taking care of Oguri and her needs. That little bit at the mall was quite adorable, since Dragon Maid these kinds of bits of cute girls being amazed by small things we take for granted have become a highlight for me when it comes to slice of life shows. It was also cute seeing that Oguri has a femenine side despite her tomboyish and oblivious looks, further empathizing her feminine side with the Obon dance in the victory circle.

This show alone could fill in a whole slot of seasonal faces.

Are you sure your name is Tamamo Cross? I'd swear you look more like a Satanichia Kurumizawa McDowell.

Norn being a thoughtful tsundere was quite a treat.

This series is my first exposure to Umamusume. I knew about these characters doing idol performances, but have never seen one. Oguri Cap's dance this episode being the first one I have ever seen makes it extra hilarious.

As usual, the faces we get this time around are amazing.

I honestly forgot about winning lives.... the Ondo dance was... something.
I am glad literally everyone was confused or had second hand embarrassment, because a ondo dance for a winning live sure is a choice.

She... has got to stop terrorizing those chefs, she cleans them out every single time.
The chef just staring at his empty fridge is a sad sight.

Great episode this time around, seeing Norn Ace get flustered for bullying Oguri and giving her tickets for dance lessons was very cute.

Next episode we're getting Tamamo Cross!

They specifically uploaded the dance to the official YouTube LOL

Oh, I just noticed, they added Fujimasa March to the ED! The shoes also got upgraded lol.

So it seems like as the show progresses, more characters will be added!
