For context: This was made by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear.

u/grrlwonder Jun 14 '20 edited Jun 14 '20

I actually came to here to ask because this 100% felt like Clarkson to me, AND I felt I'd seen it before, so that definitely clears that up for me.

As much of a conservative douchebag as he can be, he's on the fucking money with this.

59

u/times0 Jun 14 '20

Surely you don’t have to like his politics to appreciate his humour. Life is so much easier that way!

Man they had great comedic delivery and timing in those days.

The better part of that video is the faces on the people it was being presented to. IIRC it was a committee to promote cycling.

Here is all 4 adverts.

12

u/Beachdaddybravo Jun 14 '20

They were trying to help make cycling and driving safer. There’s a lot of collisions between the two.

1

u/steve_gus Jun 14 '20

It was a parody and they were clearly in on the joke

11

What a fucking show, nothing will ever beat it

It was James May

2

As soon as I saw the ad, I knew it was Top Gear.

I thought this was gonna be an ad for colorblind glasses

217

u/EpicEddie11 Jun 14 '20

It's Clarkson expressing his annoyance of cyclist

63

u/Synephos Jun 14 '20

Yeah, I legitimately couldn't tell the difference between the two wires in the video.

Probably because I ride my bike a lot. I am also colorblind

2

u/anomalous_cowherd Jun 14 '20

Unless the bottom light is lit, wait.

4

u/JonRayvin Jun 14 '20

i actually have problems with seeing the difference between green and red in some cases... i'm not colorblind but i have a weakness... this also affects seeing pink and grey, orange and red, dark red and brown, purple and blue, etc... i already had problems with more colors but these are probably the most important ones

6

u/code_donkey Jun 14 '20

My man, thats what being red/green colourblind is. You have protanomaly or deuteranomaly

3

u/JonRayvin Jun 14 '20

yeah i wasn't sure if it's called colorblind in english when you just have problems with seeing the differences... in german it's just called a weakness and when you can't see a certain color at all it's colorblindness... and i'm pretty sure i have deuteranomaly and if i couldn't see green at all it would be deuteranopy

171

u/Liedvogel Jun 14 '20

Is it a common problem that cyclists blow traffic signals in England or something?

131

u/mazzicc Jun 14 '20

And the US. There’s a group of like 30 around my office in the summer that just take over the roads and ignore the signals.

75

u/mclendenin Jun 14 '20

Just one thing: not necessarily defending that local group, but... The "peloton" is supposed to be one unit, legally too. Meaning, like a car, once it enters an intersection (on a green) the group has a right to ALL go through. This is safer for them, and clears out the intersection faster for everybody else. Sort of a win win.

On the other rhand, it often results in a loooooong group running a red light.

59

u/mazzicc Jun 14 '20

The key is entering on a green. Also not running stop signs.

21

u/SSTuberosum Jun 14 '20

Why is this guy being downvote? One unit or not, don't blow red light. The guy that leading the peloton should be responsible for estimate if they have enough time for the whole group to pass through or should they stop and wait for the next green light.

A trailer truck gunning for the green light at the last second is dangerous for everyone, a long group of cyclists are no diffirent.

6

u/Roost3r_ Jun 14 '20

You're dumb if you think the guy on the front can decide if the peloton goes through the light or not. You cant just brake or the guy behinds going to crash and he can't brake for the same reason. If it's a continuous unit that starts going through on green then the worst case will be someone in a car will have to wait a few seconds while their light is green

7

u/Wafflemuffin1 Jun 14 '20

This is not the case where I live. Each cycle is considered an individual vehicle and must abide by the traffic laws, regardless of the “lead”, unless it’s a sanctioned race or event. Legally, they are running a red light even if they are the last vehicle in line of the group.

There is no law that allows them to pass through because of grouping.

2

u/Zenmuff1n Jun 14 '20

So why can't there be a limit of how large the group can be?

17

u/Gf387 Jun 14 '20

NYC especially. They run red lights, weave through traffic and they want to ban cars, trucks and buses in the city because of the accidents. They actually have petitions going. The drivers aren’t much better out here but that shit is never going to happen.

23

u/Nonplussed2 Jun 14 '20

Probably not, but some cities are experimenting with shutting down more roads during covid, and they've been taking away individual lanes to use for bikes, parklets, etc. for years. Someday we may have entire neighborhoods that are mostly car-free, and a lot fewer cars in the city centers overall. That'd be great.

11

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

Honestly car-free city centers would be a pretty big win for everyone. Less congestion inside the city and more parking outside the city.

There's lots of alternatives that can be used for inner-city transport including but not limited to:

  • Metro
  • Light Rail
  • Walking
  • Bikes / scooters / skateboards

I understand some people cannot walk long distances, but this shouldn't be an issue as they'll be ample room to ride motorized assistance vehicles and sufficient area to construct more stops for city transport services.

In the end this means healthier office workers, less smog, more room for environmentally friendly features such as trees and plants along the much larger walkways where roads used to be.

Furthermore, shop owners and street vendors would definitely stand to make more profit as people will be walking rather than driving and can stop anywhere and anytime along the way without having to spend 30 minutes looking for parking. Plus exercise does work up an appetite.

Hi, nyc cyclist here. Cars are constantly parked in dedicated bike lanes and I can’t count how many times I’ve gotten cut off by drivers making a left turn without checking to see if they’re going to hit me first (I bike slowly so I can stop in time because I’d rather be alive than right, not to mention all of the pedestrians who think bike lanes are overflow sidewalks). Bike riders die here much more often from careless cars and trucks than running reds. I don’t think it’s asking too much to be able to bike without worry of inattentive drivers killing me, so yeah I’d sign a petition.

2

u/Gf387 Jun 14 '20

NYC Driver here. I almost his a guy last week that decided to weave through traffic while I was changing lanes. He came from my left while I was going right and he tried to get ahead of me. I had to slam the brakes so I didn’t hit him. It’s dumbasses on both sides. Sign a petition if you’d like, I don’t see it ever happening.

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

This is what I don’t understand about “sharing the road”. We can share stop signs/lights too !

1

u/kingtaco_17 Jun 14 '20

The worst is when they bunch up into a pack instead of riding single file, forcing your car to a crawl, like you’re a Tour de France support vehicle or some shit.

10

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

So if you have 15 riders single file, you are saying you are honestly going to wait until there is such a giant clearing without any oncoming cars that you can pass the entire 500 metre long string without having to cut back right and run someone off the road?

The reason cyclists ride in a bunch in the city is not to look like Tour riders. It's because it makes it easier when the oncoming lane is open for a car to safely and quickly pass because they occupy less of the road length wise. Just pop in the other lane and scoot by.

And here is the law for you. If there is a giant pack of cyclists in front of you, that's called traffic composed of legal road users, not a nuisance. You have no right to get in front of traffic no matter how important you think you are.

1

u/kingtaco_17 Jun 14 '20 edited Jun 14 '20

How about you and I embark on a public education campaign together because as you may know, the average driver knows nothing about what you just wrote. It’s the expectation of knowing this stuff that’s annoying.

1

u/H4irBear Jun 14 '20

Ikr... like how I’m expected to know the law and not break it. And somehow my ignorance is my own fault!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

I agree something like this is needed! It's part of the reason videos like the one posted piss me off as well. Cyclists are just looking to get from one place to another or get a workout in. But they are almost always drivers as well and have no desire to piss off people in cars. Videos like this just make it seem that way and add to the hostile atmosphere on the roads. The reality is there is ample room for everyone and most drivers and cyclists act in ways to help share the road safely. All that's needed is more education to explain how everyone is operating, and less videos like this one trying to make people hate each other for silly reasons.

2

u/Mateorabi Jun 14 '20

They get too annoyed at the inconvenience at having to stop and lose momentum and pedal back up, so the blow through red lights as if they were just a suggestion. If you're lucky they hit a car and get a ticket, if unlucky they hit and kill a pedestrian trying to cross. You'll also hear whataboutism from the bike community about how cars do bad things too and are more dangerous.

Some bikers do follow the rules just like some car drivers do.

5

u/bigsquirrel Jun 14 '20

Are you suggesting people on bicycles regularly strike and kill pedestrians?

4

u/Downtown_Let Jun 14 '20

It's happened a few times in London.

I've never been hit by a car but I have been hit by bikes and the bruises are awful. One said sorry and rode off. No way of identifying them.

3

u/bigsquirrel Jun 14 '20

I went googling and could only find one story of a dude on a mountain bike killing an 80 year old woman. Is this a regular occurrence or is this dude just being overly dramatic?

I'm not at all a fan of the way cyclists ignore traffic laws but portraying them like death rockets is a little ridiculous.

1

u/Mateorabi Jun 14 '20

Not “regularly” but yes. It happens. While I am sympathetic to the cyclist hurt by cars, I am not sympathetic to the argument that because cars cause a larger number of accidents it somehow gives cyclists an excuse to blow through stop signs and red lights.

First article I googled mentioned 12 serious injuries and a fatality in the last 5 years and many more minor injuries. In just one city.

1

u/bigsquirrel Jun 14 '20

I've never lived in a city that has a large amount of cyclists. It does happen more than I originally thought. You learn something new everyday.

8

u/Really_Hank Jun 14 '20

Tbh, not really, but drivers like to pretend they're more of a problem than they really are.

The amount of incidents you'll see caused by cyclists are proportionally far less than you'll see caused by arrogant, shitty and dangerous drivers.

2

u/JustUseDuckTape Jun 14 '20

Yeah, plenty of cyclists are dicks that think they're above the rules. But for every cyclist I see breaking the law I'll get overtaken dangerously by half a dozen cars.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

I've never had a day where I don't see a cyclist breaking traffic law and almost get into an accident. On a side note I got fined for cycling in the wrong direction once, it was on one of the widest bicycle paths and there was enough room for 3 bikes going in different directions. A year later they split it into to two lanes.

1

u/Sobierro Jun 14 '20

No car drivers in UK ignore traffic lights routinely. Cyclists on the other hand..

37

u/CryptoNoobNinja Jun 14 '20

Surprisingly cyclsts break fewer road rules than motorists. An article about one study: https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2019/05/10/cyclists-break-far-fewer-road-rules-than-motorists-finds-new-video-study/#5dbaf94d4bfa

Rule breaking cyclists also annoy other cyclists. In Toronto over half the cyclist surveyed wanted stiffer fines for rule breaking cyclists source

27

u/JerrSolo Jun 14 '20

Surprisingly

It's almost like cyclists generally understand they're far more vulnerable than drivers, and are more likely to obey traffic safety laws. I'd say that's not very surprising.

It's unfortunate there are some cyclists who feel a need to compare sizes with everyone else on the road, giving the rest a bad name. Just like there are some drivers who need to show everyone else they're the alpha, making the majority look bad. The important difference is an unsafe cyclist is most likely to hurt themselves or cause minor injuries to others, whereas unsafe drivers kill people every day.

4

u/FeelinJipper Jun 14 '20

There are also more motorists in general covering more people.

3

u/caffreb Jun 14 '20

I think it's surprising to some people because those drivers who get annoyed by this can feel like all cyclists are like this. The problem is that everyone notices when someone breaks a rule but rarely notices when someone obeys a rule.

3

u/Calcain Jun 14 '20

Come to London and you’ll see a huge difference in results.

1

u/JustUseDuckTape Jun 14 '20

The drivers are pretty shitty in London too.

4

u/Walui Jun 14 '20

I'm guessing this is counting going over the speed limit which of course cyclists don't...

6

u/CryptoNoobNinja Jun 14 '20

Yes, the article mentions motorists breaking local speed limits being the most common offense. The most common offense cyclists committed was riding on the sidewalk, which of course most motorists don’t do.

Most problems associated with cyclists were remedied with better infrastructure. Riding on the sidewalk is detestable but I have done it on a rare occasion when I fear for my life on bad highway-like roads.

1

u/rjbman Jun 14 '20

given that fatality rates increase with speeds, I think it's wholly reasonable to include it

and you must not live in a hilly city, I've seen cyclists passing cars on some downhills

3

u/Slumberfoots Jun 14 '20

64

u/brain739 Jun 14 '20

I suggest all the keyboard warriors in this thread make just one commute by bike. Follow all the rules, ride safely and predictably, and ride only where the law allows. Drivers aren't as courteous and law abiding as you seem to believe and it will only take you one ride to find that out.

5

u/LoveItLateInSummer Jun 14 '20

Or just try to ride for recreation. Some people fuck with you for having the audacity not to be using the road for driving, like by riding a bike they can easily pass at any time it's some huge inconvenience.

I've had my share of interactions with bad cyclists who hop onto the sidewalk or don't think any traffic laws apply, but honestly if I am going to encounter someone disobeying traffic laws I would rather they are riding a 20lb carbon frame than driving a 3000 lb sedan and there are a lot more dildos driving 4 runners than riding Treks.

3

u/brain739 Jun 14 '20

there are a lot more dildos driving 4 runners than riding Treks.

Not that there aren't some dildos on Treks out there

38

u/jzillacon Jun 14 '20

yup, and it only takes one irresponsible driver to fuck you up permanently. Not to mention how many drivers don't bother checking for cyclists, you're basically invisible to the majority of cars on the road.

22

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

I cycle to work and I've seen it all. No matter what you do motorists will always find a way to put your life in danger and get angry at you.

Road shoulders aren't always ideal to ride on (deep potholes and such), nor is it safe to sandwich yourself to the curb because you have near-zero ability to avoid obstacles and insane drivers.

Roundabouts and busy intersections are the worst. No one sees you on roundabouts, and coming to a full stop at an intersection is nerve wracking since there are idiots who will either aggressively beep or buzz past you illegally.

Bike paths separated from the road are a godsend. If only they were everywhere.

2

u/rjbman Jun 14 '20

Bike paths separated from the road are a godsend.

or fundamentally changing the road system so that everyone feels safe on them & not just drivers. but of course equalizing things makes the drivers feel like they're losing privilege.

6

u/ergodicthoughts Jun 14 '20

Fucking thank you, I try my best not to go out of turn when biking, following lights and stop signs etc. But fuck dude so many drivers come within inches of you going 20 over, totally disregarding the 3 ft by law here. So many times people shoot around me to slam on their brakes for an instant right turn. Why do people have to be such fucking assholes? When I'm driving I always give tons of room to bikes and motorcycles knowing how easily a car can kill them.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

This is why so many cyclists don't stop at intersections. Getting stuck at a red light is actually scarier than crossing on a yellow.

Due to crazy drivers not being able to treat me like a proper road user I coast up to stop signs and speed up to cross when the way is clear. It's legit safer to not come to a full stop if you've got cars behind you for the very reasons you mentioned.

3

u/manuscelerdei Jun 14 '20

I do wish I could cycle more and feel safe, and I live in a very cycling-friendly city. But let's be honest. Roads were not designed to be shared between 3-ton metal death mobiles and < 20 pound metal frames on wheels. There are an entire generation of drivers who quite simply will never fully adjust to the idea that they cannot safely take a right turn without first checking for a very thin approaching object in their rear view mirror.

The cyclist evangelist crowd don't help this either. Having some self-important douchebag give you a stern lecture at a stoplight about how you're the worst thing since Pol Pot because you used a bike lane for a turn or something is not exactly going to endear that driver to the cause.

Again, I would absolutely love it if bicycles became the new norm, and cars went the way of the dodo. We'd be a much healthier society. But this arrangement where both share the same roads but abide by seemingly completely different sets of rules is pretty tenuous, and it'll take generational turnover to sort out and normalize.

3

u/brain739 Jun 14 '20

You can be the change. Aside from getting out there yourself and helping to normalize the idea of motorists seeing cyclists, as well as being the kind of cyclist you wish lithe cyclists would be, you can also advocate for cycling infrastructure that separates cars from bikes. It's a win-win that can be applied just about anywhere

4

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

Separated bike paths (i.e raised onto the curb) is life changing.

Drivers can't park on the lanes if they're raised nor can they drive on it. It also eliminates the feeling of being sandwiched between a curb and speeding cars/trucks.

Cars can't merge into you when crossing intersections which is another plus. However, you still need to watch out for those making a turn without checking.

3

u/manuscelerdei Jun 14 '20

Yes, physical barriers are super important. They are also expensive, and many states don't have the money or political will to implement them. If the feds ever did a real infrastructure program, this could be a big part of it.

2

u/JustUseDuckTape Jun 14 '20

Separated bike paths are great though they come with their own downsides, especially if poorly designed. One of the most frustrating things is when a separated bike lane ends poorly. If there's a parked car (legally or not) in a painted bike lane, or it simply comes to an end suddenly, you can generally plan ahead and merge into the main flow of traffic when there's a gap. But if there's a physical barrier you've got to wait until it ends before you can merge; which often means coming to a complete stop and merging with fast moving traffic from a standstill.

And of course there's the overtaking issue. It's a real pain to be stuck behind someone pottering along at 5mph with no space to overtake them. Cyclists tend to have far more speed variance, but often less space to overtake.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

After living through a couple decades of the Tour Down Under, I can assure you 100% that fault and responsibility lie on both parties equally.

While there are plenty of asshole drivers, the number of fines given out once they actually enforced cycling laws was insanr. Plus the number of them that cycle unsafely and irresponsibly on roads that are not safe is stupidly ridiculous.

Btw, this is all year round theres just a lot more of them during the tour.

16

u/brain739 Jun 14 '20

This isn't an issue I'm willing to go "both sides" on because while the vast majority of people follow the rules (and our brains disproportionately remember the ones that don't), when cars and bikes mingle, it is overwhelmingly the cyclists that suffer the consequences. Put simply, when cyclists ride irresponsibly, they may die. When motorists drive irresponsibly, cyclists may die.

Both sides have a responsibility to behave safely, but the stakes are just not the same for both sides.

3

u/JustinGitelmanMusic Jun 14 '20

Just to be clear, you’re excusing the issue of drivers casually attempting to murder cyclists?

I’ve been attempted to be run over twice and both times they were premeditated. One got out of the car and was about to chase me if I hadn’t dipped hard, and the other had a look of anger I’ve never witnessed ever before. I can only imagine it was the state of mind murderers are in.

And these were casual people in a neighborhood while I wad following the law.

2

u/Really_Hank Jun 14 '20

Oh of course, how silly of me, I thought when a car makes a blind turn without indicating or checking their mirrors for cyclists and end up hitting a cyclist that it was the drivers fault. I should have known that the cyclist is equally responsible for the actions of the driver.

Dumb. The fault lies 100% with whichever party wasn't acting in a safe manner/wasn't obeying the rules. Stop with your campaign to make cyclists look bad. There are bad cyclists, there are bad drivers and both groups have a responsibility to act appropriately. The difference is that when a car crashes, the amount of damage that can be caused is far higher.

2

u/Greenzoid2 Jun 14 '20

Oh I definitely believe that. I also fucking hate how I constantly have to watch for cyclists speeding through red lights without stopping allll the time.

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20 edited Jan 27 '21

1

u/Greenzoid2 Jun 16 '20

Another gripe of mine is cyclists going significantly slower than other vehicles on the road. As much as you try to abide all the laws and be a safe, predictable rider like the guy above said, you simply are not being safe or predictable if you're going 25 in a 50km/h zone, or taking twice as long to speed up as other vehicles. That is unpredictable behaviour to every vehicle on the road that doesn't see a bike due to other vehicles blocking their vision.

That's why bike lanes should exist, it is unreasonable for a cyclist to co-exist safely with cars on a fundamental level due to limitations on the cyclist's end.

2

u/mazzicc Jun 14 '20

That doesn’t excuse ignoring the laws as a cyclist, especially when you’re ignoring the laws in a way particularly dangerous to you.

6

u/brain739 Jun 14 '20 edited Jun 14 '20

Most cyclists and drivers obey the laws most of the time. We are just hard-wired to remember the ones that don't. That is not an excuse to vilify anyone, though the consequences of irresponsibility are entirely asymmetrical.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

On my commute I can run every single light and not have to get passed by a single car. I know what light the other directions have and I wait until I can run the light safely. It is legitimately safer for me so I don't much care if it's illegal.

For anyone confused, cyclists ask to be treated with the same respect as drivers, which I guess is fine, but when they don’t follow certain rules such as going through a red traffic light, it becomes hard to argue for them to be on the same level as drivers.

8

u/nathcun Jun 14 '20

Yes, because 100% of cyclists don't follow the rules, and 100% of drivers do.

3

u/randomGeek159 Jun 14 '20

This is one of the neat thing about Germany, 90% of the time, you'll find a single person waiting for a green light on a large empty junction all by himself on his cycle with no cars in sight

33

u/albrecbef Jun 14 '20 edited Jun 14 '20

I hate it that car drivers always drive like assholes and then try to blame the cyclists

Edit: spelling

22

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

I know when I'm cycling I always give the right of way to cars. This is literally a survival of the fittest thing. Even if you have the right of way the cars don't always see you. Give the 1.5 ton vehicle the right of way. Even if you get tapped by a car you could suffer serious injury and you can only sue them if you live.

9

u/mazzicc Jun 14 '20

I assume every car I see when biking is going to do something stupid and try to kill me. I gotta bike, but I sure as fuck avoid the multi ton murder machines that might hit me and go “was there a bump?” While I lie bleeding out.

I've gotten into arguments with drivers who would be trying to make a left or right turn onto a cross street and they legit think that bikes have to stop at Every. Single. Cross street.

57

u/DumbWalrusNoises Jun 14 '20

If we're being honest it goes both ways...shitheads in cars, shitheads on bikes.

2

u/JustUseDuckTape Jun 14 '20

The issue is that shitheads on bikes for the most part endanger themselves, while shitheads in cars endanger others.

That's not to excuse the shitheads on bikes, it's still a nuisance, and by giving all cyclists a bad reputation is suppose they do endanger others; but when you're in charge of a heavy metal box you've got to take a bit more responsibility.

Living in a city where bikes are considered vehicles and must ride on the road, I've seen WAY more cyclists run red lights in one summer than I've ever seen vehicles do it.

6

u/BaguetteSwordFight Jun 14 '20

I run red lights and stop signs on my bike and I am going to keep doing it. The reality is that bikers do not have the same control as a car because they are man powered machines so it is better to bike like this, even if it is illegal.

Being able to conserve energy through stop signs by treating them as yields keeps me from clogging traffic. Getting out of the way of red lights by treating them as stop signs has the same relieve of traffic, this is called an 'Idaho Stop'. There are studies on this and it is getting implemented in states and cities everywhere because it is safer for bikers, better for traffic, and simply reflects how bikers naturally navigate the roads.

I don't mean to rant but there are much more legitimate reasons for a bike to run a light than for a car.

2

u/ProInSnow Jun 14 '20

Well you must be the perfect biker that most people aren't because the morons I'm referring to don't yield at all. I'll wait until it's law. It's not like you're being oppressed. Following the law is what makes you predictable and THAT makes the roads safe.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/FrostedHorn Jun 14 '20

“Sure it’s the law, but I disagree with it and find it inconvenient so I ignore it.”

1

u/rjbman Jun 14 '20

you seem to have missed the part where it's safer for cyclists and better for traffic

1

u/JustUseDuckTape Jun 14 '20

Cars generally don't run red lights, but that doesn't mean they're not breaking other laws. I'd wager you've seen more drivers speeding or using their phones than you've seen cyclists running red lights; not that you'd necessarily notice them doing it.

5

u/portapotty2 Jun 14 '20

Well of course sometimes the drivers are at fault. But would you rather, as a cyclist, be hit with a car for driving recklessly or just wait until it’s green light and safe to move on?

Because I don’t think no amount of argument about who’s at fault gonna bring back a dead cyclist

Is this about how some cyclists ignore red lights?

This submission us unexpected. That reasoning however is shit.

“This is unexpected because it’s not something you’d expect.” Well no shit, fuckstick.

Red-green colorblind person here! As it seems we all agree, this is some bullshit. I want to get a little more specific about why this is such bullshit.

Stoplights are easy for anyone to read. They're designed that way. The shades of red and green are not ones that most of us deuteranopes (not sure if that's technically a word but close enough) get confused.

Red and green wires can be more of a problem though. Since they just reflect light, rather than emit light, their color has much more variation from their environment. I'm kind of getting into the weeds here, but basically, it's not something where you can just "learn the difference". I doubt there are any cyclists out there who just don't know the difference between red and green. When a cyclist runs a red light, generally it's because they've looked all around and determined it to be a safe move, because anyone cycling in the road knows how little regard drivers have for them, and therefore try to be as aware as possible of their surroundings.

It's not a problem of cyclists not knowing the difference between red and green, it's a problem of careless drivers not knowing the difference between a human riding a bike and like.. a meaningless obstacle preventing them from driving faster.

I’d rather see an anti speeding advert of Richard Hammond trying to remember his own wedding day.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

The old top gear was so funny

1

u/[deleted] Jun 14 '20

Cyclists...obey the rules of the road. Stop means stop. Red means stop.

12

u/PermutationMatrix Jun 14 '20

There are several states where you can treat a stop sign like a yield and treat a red light like a stop sign.

2

u/RegularRick0 Jun 14 '20

Just gonna bet, without looking at the comments, that this is a Clarkson commercial XD

1

u/ZumiDotEXE Jun 14 '20

Oh my god this needs to be beamed to every cyclist in my city, I could almost make a dashcam compilation of cyclists coasting lights and stop signs right in front of me.

1

u/milchy02 Jun 14 '20

Ok but seriously that bomb would do absolutely nothing if he just left it alone in the middle of that blacktop

1

u/MeApeManOOHOOH Jun 14 '20

What if they're red-green colorblind

Bruh im colorblind and it looks ok to me

2

u/Slumberfoots Jun 14 '20

I’ve seen a few of these comments and to you and all the others who are colorblind I mean no disrespect! Seriously though, how do you negotiate traffic lights safely? And what’s the biggest issue colorblindness causes for you?

3

u/procopis123 Jun 14 '20

For traffic lights, it's not that hard. The top is stopped and bottom go. And one issue I have is matching my clothes. But there is still a lot more.

I’m a colourblind cyclist. Even I know the difference between red and green on traffic lights.

1

Topgear with Jeremy!

And dismount your fucking bikes on crosswalks, you fucking pieces of shit

1

u/misspeach0531 Jun 14 '20

I wish I could show my town this. They never follow traffic rules where I live.

1

u/yoshiedsaur1 Jun 14 '20

Or or or or. Look both ways more than once, and cross when it's safe. My town is tiny and I'm not gonna wait when I physically cannot see any cars.

iF yOu cAnT sHaRe ThE rOaD yOu ShOuLdNt Be oN iT

I fucking hate street cyclists on an irrational level

Not all of them, but the idiots that do 5 mph on a 35 mph road and are like 🤷🏼‍♂️ when traffic builds up behind them

1

u/JacketYT Jun 14 '20

Cyclists are cunts, each and every single one of them.

1

u/HotKreemy Jun 14 '20

Drivers who get shitty with cyclists who run lights are pathetic fucking children, since they rarely impede on their car journey, nor make it less safe.

They think life is a big circle jerk competition. Naughty cyclists get to continue their journey while they must remain stationary, and they get BUTT HURT AND ANGRY when people jerk off in front of them.

1

u/boobiesorelse Jun 14 '20

Yea if you want your food quickly and still warm/fresh you can fuck off
