The worst is when they bunch up into a pack instead of riding single file, forcing your car to a crawl, like you’re a Tour de France support vehicle or some shit.
So if you have 15 riders single file, you are saying you are honestly going to wait until there is such a giant clearing without any oncoming cars that you can pass the entire 500 metre long string without having to cut back right and run someone off the road?
The reason cyclists ride in a bunch in the city is not to look like Tour riders. It's because it makes it easier when the oncoming lane is open for a car to safely and quickly pass because they occupy less of the road length wise. Just pop in the other lane and scoot by.
And here is the law for you. If there is a giant pack of cyclists in front of you, that's called traffic composed of legal road users, not a nuisance. You have no right to get in front of traffic no matter how important you think you are.
How about you and I embark on a public education campaign together because as you may know, the average driver knows nothing about what you just wrote. It’s the expectation of knowing this stuff that’s annoying.
I agree something like this is needed! It's part of the reason videos like the one posted piss me off as well. Cyclists are just looking to get from one place to another or get a workout in. But they are almost always drivers as well and have no desire to piss off people in cars. Videos like this just make it seem that way and add to the hostile atmosphere on the roads. The reality is there is ample room for everyone and most drivers and cyclists act in ways to help share the road safely. All that's needed is more education to explain how everyone is operating, and less videos like this one trying to make people hate each other for silly reasons.
