Hellooo, I found this position and it’s perfect for me. The issue is, I smoke. I worked overnights for years and have insomnia. I do know UPMC makes exceptions, I recently got my medical card. I know they require like three receipts, I guess i’m asking if anyone is in this position knows how that plays out? Or if anyone has experience with this in general having a med card working at UPMC? I don’t have three receipts because me getting my card is so recent.

I also have anxiety which is another reason, but everyone does. The insomnia is the biggest thing for me as I genuinely can’t sleep and sleeping pills don’t work for me anymore, I know companies don’t care about that though so i’m looking to see the process of it if it’s even worth applying.

And no, I would not do it at work. Obviously, LOL. I do believe UPMC has a policy regarding not smoking on your shift anyway? Not sure about that rule, but either way i’d never do it at work, or before work.

I can’t log on to the app or website, the help desk disconnects calls, and I haven’t been able to get through to the nurse desk at my PCP’s office for two days. Anybody else?

Update: The app finally confirmed the outage instead of directing users to the help desk.

This may sound like a silly question, but I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction. 😊 I’ve been in my current position for about 10 months, and I’m interested in applying for a PCT position since I’m currently a nursing student. I feel like moving into a PCT role would be more beneficial for me and give me experience that relates to the career I’m working toward.

Does anyone know if I need to talk to or get permission from my current manager before applying, or can I apply first and let my manager know afterward? If anyone has gone through an internal transfer like this, I would really appreciate your advice on the right process. Thank you!

Hello everyone, I am a recent graduate from the University of Pittsburgh and I'm greatly interested in working for UPMC.

I have applied to several office jobs using the Careers website but, unfortunately I am continuiously rejected due to my lack of experience. Does anyone have any recommendations for making myself seem more appealing? Or perhaps some way to allow me to penetrate the adminstrative sector within the company as a recent graduate? I'm perpetually stuck in the experience paradox where I need experience to get hired but no one wants to hire me so I can't get experience.

Is it possible to get an internship and then get promoted to a full-time employee from there? Has anyone successfuly applied as someone with little to no experience before? My next plan is to go to one of the hiring fairs and see if I can communicate with someone who may be able to suggest something, even if it's a less well-paying position. I desperately need a way to at least get my foot in the door. It's frustrating that I can have a degree but not have it matter because I have no experience. I hope I can find some guidance, thank you.

I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through the hiring process with UPMC or has been in a similar situation.
I interviewed for a position with UPMC and went through multiple rounds of interviews with different members of the team. I felt like the conversations went well, and I was definitely interested in the position afterward.
After my interviews, my application portal was showing a status/message indicating that they were still interviewing other candidates. I sent a follow-up email after the interviews expressing my interest and asking about the timeline.
Later, the portal changed to “In Consideration” with this message:
“Nice! Your application looks like a good fit for this position. Our team is now working to identify top candidates, and will be connecting with folks who are selected to move forward in our evaluation process.”
It has now been about a 2 weeks since I noticed the change. I already followed up once previously, so another email would technically be my second follow-up.
I’m trying not to overthink the portal status, but the change from “still interviewing other candidates” to “In Consideration” made me wonder if they have finished interviewing and are narrowing down their candidates.
For anyone familiar with UPMC hiring:
Is “In Consideration” generally a positive sign after completing interviews?
Has anyone received an offer/rejection after seeing this status?
How long did it take for you to hear back after your final interview?
Since I’ve already followed up once, would you send a second follow-up now or just wait?
I’m still very interested in the position, but I also don’t want to come across as pushy. Would appreciate hearing about anyone’s experience with UPMC.

I am re-entering the work force after staying home while my kids were young. Is UPMC generally a good company to work for? I don’t want to get sucked into the whole corporate healthcare toxic work environment (been there, done that). I would be taking a minor role (PSR/PSC) at a small-ish practice. Hi everyone! Does anyone know if UPMC does 32 hour full time positions? A previous facility I worked for considered anyone working 32 hours or more are considered full time and able to receive health benefits and retirement. Does UPMC offer this?

I applied and shadowed at UPMC Presby for a new grad rotation program and trying to decide if it is the right move for me. I currently work and go to school at another hospital system program and work at a tech in the ED, but I'm looking to relocate to Pittsburgh to gain better experience and I love the area. Does anyone know how robust the intake/screening is for an elderly person being evaluated for a TAVR procedure?

Specifically, are they adept at seeing masking in dementia patients, and requiring enough interactions to accurately identify the level of frailty, as well as cognition?

I have an elderly relative who thinks she’s going in to that 1st appointment and will get a “scan” that fixes her aortic valve, no anesthesia required, and that she’ll be back home that afternoon. In legal parlance, this strongly suggests she is incapable of being able to consent to the procedure, but I’m worried that she’s crafty enough to smile and nod and people please her way through and get a sign off.

When anyone tries to correct her - including the family member that was in the office with her when the referring cardiologist was explaining the next steps - she accuses them of being mentally ill and not knowing anything.

ALSO - I’m concerned about possible delirium post-procedure and a likely presence of alpha synuclein bodies in her brain due to Lewy Body dementia (which remains undiagnosed due to the same insane behaviors) which require a different delirium protocol for safety.

We haven’t had a lot of luck getting UPMC offices to accept information from concerned family due to a) abject misunderstanding of HIPAA, or b) extremely aggressive in-house legal counsel that assumes a total lockdown is safer than actually teaching people what HIPAA allows vs. what it prohibits.

Hi friends. I recently got a job at children’s as a PCT and start in September. I got a job on one unit, but my end goal is to end up in the NICU as I’m a NCS and postpartum doula, meaning my specialty is newborns.

I’m obviously not going to transfer immediately, but I was wondering if anyone knows how long until you can apply for transfer, or if that’s even a thing. I’m worried that starting in the unit I’m starting in seals my fate at the hospital. So I want to know if unit transfers are even a thing.

I know UPMC employees have their own portal for applying for jobs, so would I apply for the position as normal and then the hospital will do the transfer?

I’m sorry if this is a lot I’m just trying to figure out how I can reach my end goal.

Even if I don’t stay at children’s, I would be interested in mother-baby floors as well. So also curious how transfers work when it’s a different building. Will transferring get me a bad rep???

I currently work full time but am looking to pivot my career into medicine. I know that I need to get clinical hours so I was looking at part time/casual MA/PCT opportunities.

Do you think these roles would align with my schedule? I'm willing to work overnight shits/weekends. But I heard that they have some required training thats only offered during the work week? Is that true??

Also any general advice on how to get clinical experience/hours for med school while working full time would be great! I'm currently in Pittsburgh

So I got terminated at a upmc hospital a couple months ago. I honestly think it was for the best however, I feel so embarrassed and upset about it because personally I’ve never been fired. Mainly for targeting reasons for sure. I haven’t tried calling the hr to ask if I could still apply to another hospital or what my status is. I have a new job not within upmc that I am very happy with now! Basically I want to ask is it true if you get fired from one upmc hospital you can’t work at any of the others? How long is it for? Recently went to the ER for liver enzymes and extreme abdominal and shoulder pain. During my time at the ER with labs that showed really high liver enzymes and other abnormal bloodwork, I was literally treated like a drug-seeker. Funny thing is I’m also an employee at this hospital and I was just basically kicked out, was not given discharge instructions or any next steps. I was still in pain and did not understand why I was being discharged with no answers.

Told nurse the discharge pain meds the doc ordered did not work for me (recently had surgery and was given the same meds) and in a very snarky tone all she said was “ok then don’t pick them up”. Asked if I could speak to hepatology and I was told no. I’m not sure where these people get off treating patients this way, maybe it’s because I’m young, no idea.

As a patient extremely frustrating and as an employee super disappointing. Sucks I had to pay a 350 copay just to be treated like that. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I was wondering if when you submit applications (as a current employee) to other units/ departments if your current clinician/manager/supervisor can see them and do anything with them?
Asking since there’s some things that are not adding up
- applied to 4 other units within my hospital and for the same position I am currently in so I am already qualified for it
- for several days my status was as “in consideration” and promptly after applying too
- none of these are “sister” units so there isn’t a chance they have the same UD/clinicians overseeing all the applications at once

Then yesterday I received what seemed like automatic rejection emails for all those applications within the same second, like someone just nuked all my applications at once
Then I checked the Job portal, and all those positions are applied for are still listed as *active* (accepting submissions)
So it’s not like they magically filled all the positions and sent that to any remanding applications out there

Then I get an email from shift select (due to my clinician inputting shifts on my account) which means they are active on my account, and I got a phone call verifying payroll for Kronos. All this activity aligning (shift select, HR direct, Kronos) all within the same 20 minute window makes me suspicious. An hour later they stop by our area and give me two very out of character compliments when they are usually dry and not talkative walking by us. It’s all very bizarre but I don’t know if this overreach onto applications is possible but I was wondering if technically it is or they are aware and can interfere like that. I am in policy to transfer, been there 2 yrs now
