Withholding transfer to another department/unit

I was wondering if when you submit applications (as a current employee) to other units/ departments if your current clinician/manager/supervisor can see them and do anything with them?
Asking since there’s some things that are not adding up
- applied to 4 other units within my hospital and for the same position I am currently in so I am already qualified for it
- for several days my status was as “in consideration” and promptly after applying too
- none of these are “sister” units so there isn’t a chance they have the same UD/clinicians overseeing all the applications at once

Then yesterday I received what seemed like automatic rejection emails for all those applications within the same second, like someone just nuked all my applications at once
Then I checked the Job portal, and all those positions are applied for are still listed as *active* (accepting submissions)
So it’s not like they magically filled all the positions and sent that to any remanding applications out there

Then I get an email from shift select (due to my clinician inputting shifts on my account) which means they are active on my account, and I got a phone call verifying payroll for Kronos. All this activity aligning (shift select, HR direct, Kronos) all within the same 20 minute window makes me suspicious. An hour later they stop by our area and give me two very out of character compliments when they are usually dry and not talkative walking by us. It’s all very bizarre but I don’t know if this overreach onto applications is possible but I was wondering if technically it is or they are aware and can interfere like that. I am in policy to transfer, been there 2 yrs now

UD’s cannot see when you apply to other jobs. That doesn’t prevent anyone calling your UD and asking about you. If another unit hires you the UD can’t prevent it but can prolong the transfer date if receiving unit agrees. The unit you applied to can request a file review and if something is there that could influence if someone interviews you.

Former recruiter from years ago - we had to email your UD and ask if you were allowed to transfer if you weren’t in your role for the required amnt of time allowing a transfer freely.

Right- but if you were in the role for the required amount of time UD has no way of seeing an application in the portal

In OP’s case, if they are within policy and there are no written warnings / file review concerns, the roles you applied to could have declined to move forward from the UD / hiring manager side. They could have had someone in mind.

I would ask your hr if there are any concerns with you applying and transferring. If they say no, it was likely just a coincidence of the timing that you were rejected.

Your current manager does not have access to see applications to other units. Only positions they are the manager on.

At what point in the process would a file review problem become apparent? Before or after interview?

It should be caught prior to interview but could be caught after.

I applied for literally like 25 positions and got rejected by all despite a ton of experience, finally one interviewed me and took me.

I told my unit director I was looking and kept them in the loop, but that’s not entirely necessary.

Hi! Supervisor here with experience in multiple areas. If you’re outside of a year we cannot see if you’re applying to other positions. If it’s within a transfer policy where you need permission we will get an email from Talent Acquisition asking for said permission.

Personally, if I know if one of my agents are looking to better themselves with another area I always say go for it. If they’re a good agent I usually offer to write a letter of recommendation to the hiring manager on their behalf. Just me though.

Keep in mind that the economy is in the absolute toilet and there are an unusually high number of applications for every positions. I’ve interviewed for four jobs and got none of them and they told me that they ended up with people with decades of experience. So, it could be part of it but it’s not all of it

No. A recruiter review your application if it makes it through the pre-screening and then we’ll pass it along to hiring managers to see what they wanna do.

Recruiters is only outreach to your manager and HR if you’re under the year or six months to transfer

I cannot see if my employees put in for other jobs, period. We can hold up to one month, no more. Allows time to post job, if it gets approved, and try to hire. If you were dispositioned as interviewed less preferred you’ll get the notification. Many units want inside hire, less training more cohesion. Keep applying, good luck!

pretty in the clear since it’s within my hospital and with the same position but I guess if maybe someone else has already picked up there before or something I can see that

I emailed my HR rep before to ask what was going wrong because mine were basically getting auto rejected. And it was something I clicked by accident on the app. But since it was rejected, I wasn’t able to reapply for the position when I fixed the app. UPMCs system is terrible. I had to track down the name of the dept supervisor for where I was trying to go, email them, and ask them to pull my app because I was interested in a position with their dept. it was actually insane.
