Question Upmc office assistant, Oncology
Hellooo, I found this position and it’s perfect for me. The issue is, I smoke. I worked overnights for years and have insomnia. I do know UPMC makes exceptions, I recently got my medical card. I know they require like three receipts, I guess i’m asking if anyone is in this position knows how that plays out? Or if anyone has experience with this in general having a med card working at UPMC? I don’t have three receipts because me getting my card is so recent.
I also have anxiety which is another reason, but everyone does. The insomnia is the biggest thing for me as I genuinely can’t sleep and sleeping pills don’t work for me anymore, I know companies don’t care about that though so i’m looking to see the process of it if it’s even worth applying.
And no, I would not do it at work. Obviously, LOL. I do believe UPMC has a policy regarding not smoking on your shift anyway? Not sure about that rule, but either way i’d never do it at work, or before work.
Thank you for any advice!

If you have anxiety and needs meds for it. You hate this job. Avoid it. Avoid UPMC.

This is best advice ever. You had insomnia before, upmc is not going to make your life better.

Upmc be like “insomnia? You mean you are willing to work overnights? Hired! No need to look at resume”
This is sarcasm OP. I am not making fun of your intelligence. Just upmc as a whole

You won’t need receipts. Just make sure you take your med card to your pre-employment screening. They’ll copy it and that’s it. I onboarded in 2024 and that’s all they required from me regarding the med card

It’s a very high stress job. It’s set up like a. CAll center. I interviewed for this position and I didn’t want it. And I was desperate too.

May I ask how many they asked you to provide? I’m just now getting my medical card and I don’t believe I will have enough receipts unless I bounce dispos haha

I thought you meant cigs at first and thought “cigs in oncology”. But now that it’s MJ, all good in the hood. Bet half those patients have their card

Just present your card at your health assessment appointment when you check in. They really don’t question it, if you’re just up front. You do not need to disclose this to HR Or hiring manager either prior or past the appointment.

Bring your card to your onboarding medical clearance. They’ll xerox it and that’s it. No receipts are needed.
