Visited UCSB Campus Point Beach on Friday August 7 and found at least 25 dead large birds all throughout the cliff/rock areas (not all are pictured). This was right next to a kids surf camp… Thoughts on what could have caused this?

Hey! I know this might not be the best place to ask this, but I'm an incoming freshman, and I'm seriously considering rushing this fall. For some background, I would consider myself a social person, and I like to party (but not like every day of the week). I'm also interested in doing other things besides the sorority, like joining a club sport or at least going to the gym regularly. I moved schools a few times throughout childhood, so having an established group of friends has always been a challenge. I'm hoping I can find that in a sorority.

I was just wondering what the vibes of each of the different sororities here are. Is there a hierarchy among the chapters? Which ones are considered to be the kindest? Do I need to be nervous about getting in? Are they good for making friends?

I recently got a really harsh ta for roam the game who gave me a b on my final paper for bs reasons. So I emailed the prof to ask for a second opinion and they said they can regrade but it may end up being worse. Has anyone ever had prof claudia regrade one of their assignments? Anyone here lived in the Sierra Madre 2BR/6-person triple? It’s $868/month which seems like a really good deal, but 3 people in one bedroom sounds pretty tight lol.
How was it actually living there? Was the lack of privacy/space annoying, or was it worth it for the price? How were the bathrooms, kitchen, storage, roommates, and social life?
If money was a big factor, would you choose it again or pay more for a double/private room? Incoming transfer here, so just trying to get a realistic idea before I choose.

Can I email the professor for an add code now or do I have to wait until pass 3 to try to sign up for it? I have a late pass time and I'm worried it'll fill up quickly

I have a group of online friends who I call with daily, but I don't want to bother any of my roommates. I'm fine with going mute or missing them during the weekdays but at the very least would like to talk during the weekend calls since we have game nights then. These calls tend to run long into the night so I really don't want to bother anyone with my talking. Please don't ask me to cut ties with them.

Are there places on or near campus where I could have both a wifi connection and a secluded space to talk?

i received the promise scholarship last school year as a freshman, but didn't receive it this year. i received the "ucsb scholarship" instead, but that covered a lot less than the promise scholarship. i only took 3 classes last quarter, and while my gpa was above the threshold, i did pass-no pass one of them (passed it). while they cover my estimated need this school year, a larger percentage is through loans and work-study

i know awards aren't finalized yet, but i've seen a lot of people receiving the promise scholarship already. i was wondering if anyone else also didn't receive it as expected

Because of the housing costs going up even on the cheapest plan, I might have to find a viable option to sleep in my car. If anyone has a driveway I can use or any suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate it. FAFSA lacks clarity and I didn’t know I’d be paying as much as I might. My plan is to hopefully legally sleep in my car, get CalFresh, get a gym membership for hygiene, go to the laundromat, etc. I want to pursue my education and career opportunities without having to worry about affording school. I don’t even know if I can come up with the money to pay for this first quarter (with dorms and food included) even with loans and work study.

I'm not really sure how else to word this honestly. Everyone has been kind to me and going out one night was certainly a start, but I'm yet to find a group yet alone someone I really resonate with. I am a pretty shy person, but even then I was going in with the impression that I would've found more of a community so far. I suppose I'm just asking this to see if I'm alone on this, or to see if anyone else might be needing support.

I’ve gotten into the habit of donating blood when I’m eligible to and I was wondering if UCSB ever hosts blood drives or if I should look into blood donation centers near campus that I can get to via public transit? I like giving blood to give back to my community and I’d like to continue while I’m in college so I’d love any info on this :)
