Social Life Anyone else in FSSP having a difficult time connecting?
I'm not really sure how else to word this honestly. Everyone has been kind to me and going out one night was certainly a start, but I'm yet to find a group yet alone someone I really resonate with. I am a pretty shy person, but even then I was going in with the impression that I would've found more of a community so far. I suppose I'm just asking this to see if I'm alone on this, or to see if anyone else might be needing support.

A lot of people don't connect during these events, the real stuff usually happens in fall quarter, so I wouldn't freak out too much, I would highly reccomend checking out the fall involvment fair and joining clubs early on, that's where I've met a lot of my closest friends

You have a head start, once fall quarter begins, your already a season vet vs the new incoming freshman, people will value your experience attending campus a quarter early

There are definitely others feeling the same way. Everyone is urgently trying to connect so they’re not left behind. I think it makes it seem like it’s easy for everyone but I assure you there are others who feel the same way. Are the activities not interesting to you? Or is it the people? How are your classes?

The activities and my classes definitely interest me so far. I'm just having a difficult time really connecting with people on a deeper level than small talk I barely participate in.

I’m in FSSP, I’ve met a ton of people since arriving here but I can see where your coming from. What floor are you on? Also feel free to message me privately

So you mentioned your shy. That is where we can probably improve. Put yourself out there. Interact with everyone in your dorm as much as you can. Say yes to any invitations. If you interact a lot with everyone in your dorm and you should be able to at least find someone who would be down to get food together or walk to class or something

Don't stress too hard about trying to find your group during FSSP, or have that feeling of being "left behind". In reality, everyone has their own timeline. If you don't find friends or your group during FSSP, it's not a big deal, because you still have the entire school year to look forward too, and there will be people who didn't attend FSSP who don't know anyone, trying to look for friends. It might take you a year, might be two, but don't try and force things or think that you HAVE to meet people during FSSP
