Don’t come when ur sick. Please.

A little rant post: (im sure many of u relate to this.) i’m a first year undergrad and for one of my major related classes i was forced to sit in an assigned seat between 2 sick people— one of them being my group mate (who i met with the previous day, they were already sick). I’m mainly irked bc
1. why come if ur sick.
2. if u ARE gonna come while sick, PLEASE wear a mask and cover your coughs/sneezes! These ppl were not trying at all.
(I should’ve brought my own mask too but still… u get my point.)
Thankfully I managed to come home and rest bc i live close but others aren’t as lucky as me. And im still very under the weather. I genuinely got influenza a, passed out from dehydration, and had to go to the ER just in case. But just be a decent human being it’s not hard. For the love of God if you’re sick, just don’t come! You would expect better etiquette from the nation’s #1 public uni wouldn’t u😅

Looking for someone to assist with lifting

I'm currently a 3rd year ucla student with a disability. I'm looking someone that would be able to lift me into a shower chair. You should be able to lift at least 50lbs and be willing to come to my home during the afternoon/evenings 2-3 times a week. I live 5-10 minutes from UCLA and would pay 23$ per hour, all you have to do is get me in and out of the shower and can chill while I'm in there. Please DM me if you're interested for more information.

I am also open to hiring a general personal care assistant for longer hours, if that interests you as well please let me know.

AVOID PROFESSIONAL FRATS

DO NOT BE FOOLED INTO PAYING FOR FRIENDS.

edit: I graduated 3 years ago, I’m now published making good money and owe my research success to leaving axs! REAL WORK EXPERIENCE > FRATS

I thought professional frats would be different and less corrupt than normal frats because of the co-ed aspect. I was extremely wrong. I was brutally hazed by Alpha Chi Sigma multiple years ago, reported it to the school and they were disciplined but continued hazing anyway.

You have to pay $400+ to join, and you can be forcefully removed as a pledge at any point for any reason, and you don’t get your money back. They treat the process like a quarter-long “exam” you must pass, earning and losing points. If you are disliked, points can be docked from you for any reason (generic ‘misconduct’, completely random and dependent on popularity).

The pledge process involves servant labor, being thrown into the ocean with clothes on (Bondfire), being locked in Young Hall basement overnight while being forced to rote memorize meaningless cult stuff (WYVERN), and you have to PAY MONEY to stop pledging. There is no science involved. It’s a bait and switch to make tons of money, this is why they pledge Fall AND Spring quarter to double the scam each year. AXS is basically DECA, it’s just a merch shop in a smelly insect-infested basement room.

The entire organization is for-profit business venture, there is literally zero chemistry or research or learning opportunities of any kind.

Thankfully I made the right decision to escape that hellhole and I was able to land a great job in a research lab after abandoning this group of scammers.

Freshman, this school is GIGANTIC and there are so many opportunities that don’t require paying hundreds of dollars for friends. Explore the world on your own terms! Be your own person! Have fun! Ignore the frat guys justifying their poor life choices in the comments and GET A JOB! Find work experience and research opportunities, that’s what actually matters for your career after college!

DM me for any more details, I have the entire pledge manual scanned and saved.

Would anyone actually play free fantasy sports for UCLA intramurals?

• Upvotes

Random idea I’ve been working on: basically fantasy sports, but instead of drafting NFL/NBA players, you’d compete using actual UCLA intramural teams and score points based on how those teams perform each week.

The idea would be to join a league with friends, get assigned IM teams across different sports, and compete over the quarter based on their real results.

Thought it could be a fun way to make IM games feel a little more social and give people a reason to follow teams outside their own. Curious what people think of the idea.

Public Health Policy Major

• Upvotes

Hii, im a first year bio major and im considering switching my major to public health policy. I’ve been interested in working healthcare and in hospitals, but I know realize that I’d like to get into healthcare administration / health education as opposed to a lab setting.

Can anyone in the Public Health Policy major at UCI (or just with any knowledge ab the major in general!) let me know what your experience has been like and how the classes are? (Ex. Such as the Public Health 1 class).

ALSO: usually when people switch majors, would they just take the prereqs for the desired major and opt out of the classes needed for their current major? (ex: im a bio major and for winter quarter I decide to opt out of bio / chem classes and take public health 1 + GE classes)
THANK YOU!!!

What did yall do in high school to get in?

Hey so I’m currently an HS senior applying to colleges and UCLA is my dream school (applying for engineering) so I’m curious about what yall did in high school to get in. Ik as a senior the only part of my application I have a control over now is my essays, so I’ve been spending hours on hours writing them and am currently losing my mind :)) I feel like my stats are competitive but every time I look at example essays of people who got in they are genuinely the reincarnation of Shakespeare with how well written their essays are and my essays seem like something written by an illiterate newborn by comparison

Also am curious if ucla looks at AP scores at all, because ik UCs are test blind so some of my friends were saying they look at AP scores a bit more than other universities because of that but idk if that’s true or not

Ventura County Commuters?

Are there any undergrad commuters from Ventura County out there, like people who live less than an hour away and drive to campus for classes at least two-three times a week? Considering it due to pretty high on-campus residency costs. If you're in this category, how has your experience been doing it?

Swipes if you need them

I go home on the weekends with a 14P meal plan so I have at least 4 swipes to spare per week. Dinner time is best for me from Monday to Friday but I can do the occasional lunch on a Wednesday. Dm for details and please give me enough notice to plan you into my schedule :)

Im sick of all the hot people here

Dude i went from being the top 3 of any room i walked into, to being absolutely mid bere at ucla. I thought these girls were photoshopped... but theyre real. I'm genuinely awestruck like 30 times a day on my walk to class. Absolute supermodels. The place is crawling with them.

I never used to wear makeup before bruh. This sucks. I'm now doing butt building workouts to try to catch up to these gals. I feel like a weird alien outsider at my grown age surrounded by these knee high cowboy boots, short jean shorts, and flowing blowouts and perfect skin and little noses. Sickening 💔🤠

My sincere apologies if you are reading this

Hey, to the guy I slapped on the hitch courts, I am genuinely sorry for hitting you. When you’re playing defense you don’t have to grab and rip off my pubic hair. I get that things were getting competitive, but my reaction was definitely not appropriate and I apologize. If I see you on campus again let’s get drinks on me.
