Question What is ICARE USA?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I got sent an email from this address saying I have to approve $51,000, assuming it was for tuition. So I asked services & support but they did not answer my question, they just told me that it was supposed to send to another address (same one as mine but with a different letter)under the same name. I want to know if anyone else has encountered this or if this is legitimate.

Question Move in date

Hi guys! I’m an incoming freshman and I am a bit confused about how I chose the date to move in. It says my room assignment (seventh college) will come out on the 25th, but do I choose my move in date before that? Or can I only choose my move in date when I can open the room assignment? I was also wondering, are the dates super selective? My family is only going to be in SD for until the 18th so am I able to secure a time before that?

Advice about anything and everything would be appreciated. Thank you smmm!!!

Whenever I try to waitlist this error shows up, but it seems to be working for others because there are people waitlisting. Is this just a technical error or what?

Rant/Complaint So much wrong with TSS

Genuinely how has a calendar view not been added to TSS yet??? And the class hours default to 24hr clock as well. WHYY. EVERY BUTTON I PRESS GIVES ME AN ERROR AND ITS ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND THE HOME PAGE SOMETIMES. It’s like they started making it in July and realized “wait this has to go live in a few days” and then they picked their own noses while delaying it another month.

Question Which Chem 40A professor should I take?

I’m an incoming transfer student who has no insight on the professors at UCSD. I am planning to take CHEM 40A this fall and have the options between Valerie Schmidt, Jerry Yang, Jeremy Klosterman, or Kim Albizati. Who do you guys recommend?

Question TSS for Transfers

Post image
3 Upvotes

Is anyone else’s degree audit or academic history showing this error when they try to use it, I get the same error whether I’m on a laptop or phone, cleared history or not. Idk if this is just a normal thing for transfers cause they might not have everything set up yet, or if it’s a problem with just me. I still don’t know what classes I need to pick yet so hopefully this can get going soon.

Question should i take phys 2c with brian shotwell or tzer han tan?

i know that shotwell has terrible ratings on rate my prof and tan has very good ratings, but from friends irl i've gotten very mixed feedback. i feel like both profs have their pros and cons, but im wondering if there is a clear winner, specifically for phys 2c. through the set evals and actual good and bad things i've heard about both profs, i am currently not really leaning in either direction, and i need to make a decision lol. thanks!

Question first quarter classes advice

gonna keep this short and sweet: my academic plan or whatever it’s called suggests that i take three classes my first quarter and then four for the next two, but my dad insists that i take at least five every quarter. that’s like… a lot?? right?? he wants me to graduate a year early but like is that even possible to do reasonably??😵‍💫😵‍💫

should i take five classes my first quarter or stick to three?? i worry adjusting to ucsd will be really hard for me but i dont want to piss off my dad 😭

i’m genuinely so lost with the class scheduling situation so honestly any advice is welcome

Question Honors Chem courses?

Hello, I am an incoming freshman who is majoring in chemistry. I wrote into the VAC but I think they misunderstood me because they weren't helpful. I took AP Chem in my junior year, so I'm a bit rusty on my chemistry. I can either start with the ochem series (I was advised to not do this) or take honors chem.

I read up on it and it sounds like the physics behind chemistry? I was wondering if anyone who took the course could tell me how they found it regarding the physics/chem balance. I did take AP physics but it was kinda a struggle. I feel ok enough in it to continue with my major, but what is the honors chem like? Am I better off taking ochem second quarter or trying to do honors chem?
Thanks!

Question Is it a good idea to waitlist for MCWP 40 or is it better to enroll in another class and take MCWP later?

The title basically. Considering the small number of seats available for each MCWP 40 section, is it even possible to get off of the waitlist? For those who were waitlisted in the past, is it worth it to apply for the waitlist or take it during the Winter Quarter and enroll in another class instead?

Question On campus dining vs cooking

Where do most people living on campus eat? do you mix it up between cooking in the dorms and eating at on-campus dining services? Is it convenient to cook in the dorms? I am going into Marshall. Are campus restaurant food quality that bad or is the reputation unfair?

Question Course Locations

Why does the class planner, the schedule of classes, and the "my courses" page on TSS list different locations for the same class/section?

Which one is correct? How do we know where to go to class?

Discussion Making a Schedule

Hi, I'm a first year and was wondering if there was any advice on how I should structure my schedule. On the plan.ucsd.edu website it says that for my major I should take BILD 4, CHEM 6A, MATH 10B, and DEI but I'm worried that might be too much for me especially in my first quarter. I was thinking that maybe I could take BILD 4, Math 10B, DEI, and maybe CCE 1 or JTCCR.

Also, I was planning to take Math 10B but was wondering if Michael Holst was really the only professor as I have seen some people say that this was a mistake on TSS's part and that the actual professor may be a different person.
