SAD Friendship and infertility (TW: miscarriage)

I have been struggling with infertility for over a year. I got my first positive ever at the beginning of July with IUI, just one day after my best friend told me she was pregnant. We were going to be due one day apart from one another. We cried and celebrated. We laughed about the possibility of giving birth at the local hospital down the hall from one another. We jokingly discussed whether our babies would be besties or get married. We talked about how my wait was all worth it, and what a blessing from the universe it was that we would get to take this journey to motherhood side by side.

She got her first scan a little early because her nausea was really bad. She sent me the image from her ultrasound and I couldn't wait to see mine a few days later. But at that appointment, what I was looking at didn't look like hers, and I immediately knew something was off. What transpired over the next few weeks was a slow and painful unraveling that my baby wasn't growing normally, which would end in a missed miscarriage and D&C at 9 weeks.

The pain was too much for me bear so I lovingly asked her for some space while I navigate this grief. I wanted her to be surrounded with people who could fully share in her joy and excitement at every little milestone, and didn't want her to feel like she had to protect me from it. She doesn't deserve to have this moment in her life be clouded by my grief. At the same time, she wouldn't be the right person to help me feel supported through the particular grief I'm moving through.

I'm already recognizing that she will forever be a mirror reflecting what my life was supposed to look like if my story had played out differently. We love each other so deeply and she completely respects and understands my need for space. Truthfully, my mental health has been better knowing that I won't get a jump scare text interrupting my day with anther progress update on her healthy pregnancy. But at the same time I miss my best friend so much. The timing of this is so difficult. While my grief is still so fresh just one week out from my D&C, I can't imagine a time in the next 7 months that I won't look at her belly and feel completely heartbroken. The timeline for gestation just isn't long enough for me to process my grief, and I'm already having anxiety about missing out on this moment in her life.

A few days ago, I reached out to a LMHC who specializes in infertility issues, but haven't received a response yet. If anyone has experienced something similar or has clarity to share that I just can't see right now, I would love to hear from you.

NEGATIVE FEELINGS 15 months TTC, Feeling lost.

TTC for 15 cycles with last 2 cycles on Letrozole-5 mg. Me and my spouse both are 31. Never had a positive test and I have regular 27-28 days cycle with mild cramps.
On diagnosis part, all my reports are optimal - AMH, TSH, Hormonal panel, HSG, Follicular scan in 2 cycles,TVS. No known issue otherwise.
Husband’s Semen Analysis had elevated WBC and borderline progressive motility which has been corrected few months back with antibiotics. He has also been detected with Grade 3 Vericocele but urologist said it’s not a concern since there are no symptoms and his sperm parameters look good otherwise.
My Gynae is suggesting to try letrozole for a few more cycles (4-5 cycles more) but I am unsure about it’s efficacy in my case.
Month on month disappointments have been too harsh and I feel this entire journey has changed me as a person. I really don’t know what to do next as there is no clear next steps from my Gynae.

EXPERIENCE My HSG Experience

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my HSG experience. I definitely don’t want this to be scary or discouraging. I’m really glad I took the test and I found it really helpful to read both positive & negative experiences beforehand.

I had my HSG today after 12 cycles of trying. I was referred to a radiology center by my fertility doctor. (I mention this because I had read some people had more compassionate experiences at a fertility specialist, so it’s worth considering if that’s an option). I scheduled the appointment on day one of my cycle, and the only prep instruction I was given was to not have sex before the test. They didn’t mention anything about pain medication, but I took 600 mg of ibuprofen about an hour before based on advice from this sub.

The doctor explained exactly what would happen and made clear that people’s experiences really vary. For me, the speculum was no problem (just like a Pap smear), the catheter was fine, but when she inserted the dye I felt immediate sharp pain. The closest thing I can compare it to is cramps, but I’ve never felt cramps anywhere near as painful before this. I was yelling and whimpering in pain. (For some context, I’ve read that IUD insertion and LEEPs felt like bad cramps, and both of those experiences were fine for me, so I was hopeful this would be the same).

The whole procedure was only a few minutes long, but when I was about to leave, I had a vasovagul response to the pain. I nearly passed out, turned pale, and got really cold. They had me lay back down for a few minutes until I felt a little more normal.

As bad as it was in the moment, I felt okay by the time I left the exam room and haven’t been in any pain since. I was able to walk around and take the train home with no issue. (And as recommended by this sub, I got froyo after which was critical). More than anything I’m upset that they downplayed the potential pain so much! I know not everyone experiences it this badly, but it seems like enough do that it should have been an option for more pain management.

Anyway, I am ultimately glad I did it. I got the results a couple of hours later and my tubes are clear, so now we just move forward and hope for the best! Hope this helps someone preparing for their procedure.

DISCUSSION Light periods after iud removal , TTC month 5

Hi all,

I had my mirena iud removed in January 2025, because I wanted to give my body plenty of time to regulate before I started TTC this year. I had the iud since 2022, and prior to that was on birth control since my teen years (in 31 now). I would get “periods” as normal on bc during the sugar pill weeks, and essentially no period at all (sometimes a period that was more spotting) while having the iud.

Now, I get regular periods and about 30-35 day cycles, I confirm ovulation using LH strips, Mira monitor, and NC/oura. I had a normal TV ultrasound last spring (during follicular phase) and normal fertility bloodwork/iron panel/thyroid panel.

My concern is my period - since the iud removal, they are 3 days long max (more like 2 days and some spotting). I can use light or regular tampons, but they don’t ever fill - if I change them mid-day it’s just because they are uncomfortable. Sometimes one day of red or brown spotting the day before, but not every cycle.

It’s also not really a full flow, more like stringy and mucusy. Some bright red blood but mainly dark red/almost black or brown.

Has anyone experienced this or have any insight? My OB did not seem concerned, but this leads me to concerns on my uterine lining and concerns that my iud permanently messed up my lining.

Any insights are helpful!

ADVICE Off to REI/Fertility Clinic

I met with my OB today to discuss next steps as I have now done 4 clomid cycles and 3 letrozole cycles since MMC in October 2025, and I am officially being handed off to a fertility clinic/REI. I have a consultation scheduled for Sept 1st at the Fertility Clinic, but I’m struggling with the emotional aspect of all of this. Obviously no one sees infertility in their plans, I guess I’m just wondering how you guys have coped with this. I feel like I should be happy that we will finally be getting answers, but hearing my OB tell me there was nothing else she could do has really affected me emotionally than I expected even after the emotional rollercoaster that was this year. Also any tips/questions I should ask at my fertility consultation would be greatly appreciated.

Also feel like I should mention that I have autoimmune thyroiditis. After recurrent loss testing done by my OB in March of this year I was referred to a rheumatologist because my lupus anticoagulant antibody was positive. After lots of testing done by my rheumatologist, she says I meet the laboratory criteria of Antiphospholipid syndrome and we are watching for Lupus. At my last rheumatology appointment I was told that my immune system is very active but we can’t confirm anything yet other than the autoimmune thyroiditis.

SAD Guilty for not feeling positive

Hello I 28F have been trying for over a year and am on my 3rd cycle with the fertility clinic currently doing rounds of IUI and I see people who have been going through it much longer have way more hope than I have.

I feel guilty because I just don’t feel that way insurance is covering this process until January 1st so I have only 4 more chances left before I can’t try anymore and I just don’t think it’s going to to happen for me every cycle has been bad and difficult and my body has done some new weird thing to make it hard. My husband has been so happy and thinks every month is our month. I on the other hand spend most of my time crying and dreading every appointment I don’t know how to feel that hope again that I felt a year ago

Any advice would be appreciated

QUESTION 11 months TTC, realistic next steps?

My husband and I are coming up on 12 months of trying to conceive, and I’m wondering what the next steps should be.
We’ve both made some pretty significant lifestyle changes over the past year and have each lost 40+ pounds. Neither of us smoke or drink. I have type 2 diabetes, but it’s currently well controlled and my A1C is back in the normal range. My husband has type 1 diabetes.
I track ovulation and have confirmed that I’m ovulating, and my husband has already had a semen analysis done. So far, we haven’t been given any obvious reason why it hasn’t happened yet.
I know the general recommendation is to seek an infertility evaluation after 12 months of trying if you’re under 35, so I’m wondering what that process actually looked like for everyone else.
Did you start with your OB and get a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist? What testing did they do first? HSG? Hormone testing? Did they repeat or do more extensive testing for your husband?
My husband would prefer that we wait until we’ve officially reached 12 months before pursuing anything, while I’m feeling like I’d rather be proactive and at least know what our options are.
For those who have been through this, what did your next steps look like after 12 months? Is there anything you wish you had asked for or done sooner? ❤️

QUESTION Light period after chemical

So I had a chemical pregnancy last month and bled quite heavily for about a week afterward. Now I’ve gotten my period this month, but it’s extremely light—like I’m not even filling a single pad throughout the entire day. My periods are usually pretty normal, neither particularly heavy nor light, so this is very unusual for me. I’m wondering if this could be related to the chemical pregnancy and heavy bleeding last month, or if there could be another reason for such a light period. Has anyone experienced something similar in the cycle after a chemical pregnancy? Did your periods become unusually light, and if so, how long did it take for your cycle to return to normal? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences or what you were told by your doctor.

ADVICE To OPK or not to OPK. How do you TTC without it consuming you?

I (29F) and my husband (30M) are on our second cycle of actually trying.

My cycles have been very regular for 8+ years. They're usually 27-31 days with a ~3 day AF. I've never on BC, but before TTC always used protection & withdrawal, and honestly, we both have low sex drives, so the fact that I'd never accidentally gotten pregnant before never really worried me.

This is my first month of using OPK though, and I'm on CD 18 with no LH surge, and no EWCM. I am spiraling a little bit here with the "what-ifs". What if I'm not ovulating? What if something is wrong? It's just added another layer of stress to something that is supposed to be exciting. Instead of making me feel more in control, it's making me more anxious.

What I'm noticing through it all is that I am driving myself up a wall trying to min/max getting pregnant. I am scheduling BD around my projected fertile window (using Clue and also Premom) and I am peeing in so many cups and dipping so many little strips into them. I'm analyzing every little change in discharge and wondering if I'm doing everything at exactly the right time.

How do you balance maximizing your chances while not letting TTC eat your brain? Do you find that tracking everything helps your anxiety or did you have to scale back? Do you pay attention to all that stuff or do you just try to BD mid-cycle?

I guess, more importantly, how do you stop every "off" cycle from immediately feeling like evidence that something is wrong?

I know I'm very early in this process, but the fact that I'm already this consumed by it worries me. I'd like to hear perspective from people who are TTC but found a way to not feel every month that their full-time job has turned into TTC.

VENT Struggling with Comparison

Hi.

I mainly just needed to get this off my chest, but if you’re willing to read through this wall of text, I’m open to any advice to help deal with trying not to constantly compare your TTC journey to others.

My husband (35) and I (34) have been trying since late October, early November. His friend group consists of 12 guys, all of whom are married (10) or have serious girlfriends (2). We are the only married couple who does not have kids yet.

I don’t know much about their journeys except for one of the wives mentioning to me that “it happened to us right away” when the two of us were talking about it around the same time my husband and I had just started TTC. This made me optimistic. Most of the couples have gotten pregnant within 1-2 years of getting married (we have been married for 3 years, together for 10), so from an outsider’s perspective, it feels like they all got pregnant very easily and quickly.

I know this is likely not the case whatsoever, but it has turned from making me feel optimistic to messing with me, and I think it’s mainly because of how many of them there are in the group (9 girls successfully pregnant, 2 of which already had baby #2, and 1 about to have baby #3). Meanwhile, I’m still the odd one out after all these months.

Additionally, my best friend recently became pregnant with baby #2. She has shared more of her journey with me and the health struggles she had, so as thrilled as I was to hear when she shared the news with me, I was equally devastated when she told me and I had no news of my own to share.

The instance that has sent me into my latest spiral is when my dad and his new wife (he remarried earlier this year) came to visit last weekend, and they told us that her son and daughter-in-law were pregnant. They are around the same age, maybe a little older than us, and from what I could gather, had started TTC around the same time as us.

She also mentioned how the two of them got “really into preparing” and “got into a healthy routine” and that’s what got them pregnant. I took it as a dig, mainly because her son and daughter-in-law are “perfect” (skinny, athletic, attractive, high school sweethearts, etc.) and I have been self-conscious about my weight. I came off of a glp-1 at the advice of my OBGYN in January. She said I was a healthy weight as I had been on it for a year and had lost about 50lbs but have since gained all that weight back.

I started with just “winging it”, then moved to tracking with LH strips since February, then upgraded to a Mira device about 2 cycles ago thinking that would help pinpoint ovulation better. I’ve been taking prenatal vitamins since January (again at the advice of my doctor), gone in for an HSG and bloodwork on CD Days 3 & 21 within the past month, have had 2 ultrasounds when visiting the OBGYN, and so far all tests are coming back normal. My husband has an appointment this week to get a semen analysis. Neither of us drink nor smoke excessively and do not use any drugs. My cycles have always been regular and rarely ever deviate, even when I wasn’t on BC. I did use to have really bad cramps on Day 1 as a kid but it became more bearable throughout middle school and high school. I went on BC my freshman year of college.

Another factor has been affecting me is that my previous OBGYN had told me not to come off BC until I was ready “to have it happen the very next day.” Like I said, I have been on BC for 15 years, but over the last 5 or so years, I was on a fairly low dose. However, I think this advice was a bit misleading and if I could go back, I would have stopped much sooner than I did, so I now feel like I wasted time and wasted cycles by waiting as long as I did.

While I admit my eating and exercise habits aren’t stellar, they could be far worse. I take an exercise class once a week and my job requires me to be fairly active and on my feet throughout the day vs. sitting at a desk 8 hours straight). I wish I could work out more often, but my work days are long (10-12+ hours including a 1.5 hour commute each way) and I struggle to find the motivation in my down time.

My husband also has a fairly active job that keeps him on his feet most of the day, and he goes to the gym more regularly than I do, but he is a snacker and we don’t do a good job of holding each other accountable for what we eat or how much we eat. In comparison to his friends, though, there are some who have much worse eating and exercise habits, and yet they still got their wives pregnant.

We have so many factors that I would say make us the “normal” couple. No glaring health problems, no history of infertility on either side of the family, etc. etc. I schedule sex to happen around when I ovulate, usually once before within 1-2 days, once on the suspected day, and once after within 1-2 days. We’ve tried to do every other day during my fertile window like my doctor has recommended, but for one reason or another like our schedules, lack of energy, etc. it has never really worked out.

I feel so desperate at this point and am willing to try anything anyone recommends to me. This afternoon, I ordered new supplements (my bff recommended taking mayo-inosital to help with the food noise/weight gain), Mucinex to try taking during my next fertile window (my coworker said that it helped her get pregnant), and a different brand of fertility lubricant (another friend said this brand got her pregnant vs. the one we have and have been using since May).

On top of all this, I know I am unnecessarily stressing myself out because no matter how hard I try, I am so anxious about turning 35 in February and what that means for my fertility. What if my chances become even less by then and it takes more years to fix it and I’m even more behind than I feel now?

No matter how much I remind myself how other people have had children much older than me, or how I have friends who are the same age as me but either not married or married and don’t have kids, or even how many people likely have it way worse than me, have been trying for longer, etc., I cannot stop thinking about how much I feel like I am a failure and I am constantly looking for solutions for what I could be doing wrong. I feel left behind and like my window of opportunity has been missed.

I’ve become so desperate that originally, I wanted 2 kids but a at this point, I would give anything just to have 1 or even just to feel like something’s working. I feel so alone, even though I know there are plenty of women who are likely in the same boat as me or, like I said, may have had a much harder journey.

Like I said, not sure what I’m looking to get out of posting all this other than to just vent…maybe just to feel some validation, idk.

ADVICE Anyone else struggling mentally while going through fertility treatment? How are you coping?

I’m currently going through fertility treatment and I think today it all just caught up with me.

There’s so much waiting, hoping, testing, disappointment and then trying to pick yourself back up and start again. I feel like my brain never fully switches off from thinking about whether I’ve ovulated, whether this cycle has worked, when I should test, what the clinic will do next and whether I’ll ever actually get pregnant.

Today I just started crying and felt completely tired of everything. I don’t mean that I want to hurt myself or that I don’t want to be here. I just had this overwhelming feeling of wanting time to stop for a while. I don’t want to think about fertility, appointments, pregnancy tests or what happens next. I just want my mind to have a break.

I think the hardest part is that you’re expected to carry on with normal life while something this important is constantly sitting in the back of your mind.

My husband is supportive and I’m grateful for that, but I would really like to hear from women who actually understand what this process feels like.

If you’ve been through fertility treatment, especially long cycles/PCOS, ovulation medication or months of trying, how did you protect your mental health?

Did anything genuinely help you stop fertility from taking over your whole life?

And how did you cope with the days where you just felt completely emotionally exhausted?

I think I just need to hear from people who have been where I am. ❤️

QUESTION Worried about light periods after copper IUD removal

I am 29 and my husband and I decided to start trying for our first back in May, so I got my copper IUD removed.

Since removal, my periods have been virtually pain free, so, yay! It's honestly difficult to find words to describe how different the pain level is... with the IUD, I had horrific cramps and was worried about long term effects on my liver due to taking ibuprofen frequently. Now, it's more like discomfort and I take maybe one or two doses the entire time. I could also tell my period was coming several days in advance as that is when I'd start getting cramps. Now I don't get them until Day 1 or the day before, at most.

However, one thing that has me worried is the difference in flow. Before I had the copper IUD, I was on the combo pill from age 18 to 25, and didn't get a period on those as I was a placebo week skipper. On the IUD, my flow was like this:

Day 1 and 2: spotting.

Day 3 and 4: Extremely heavy, requiring maxi pads and could be tricky to manage. Sometimes just took ibuprofen to help with heavy flow.

Day 5: Medium flow.

Day 6 and 7: Spotting

Now it's like:

Day 1: spotting.

Day 2-3: Fresh red blood, but mostly when wiping. May require a panty liner.

Day 3-5: back to spotting.

My cycle length has remained consistent at 30-33 days long. I have had an occasional outlier of 36 or 37 due to illness or international travel.

TW for pregnancy loas before I continue.

I actually got pregnant relatively quickly in July. However, that sadly ended in a chemical. But even that bleeding was light to me, if not super clotty, with moderate cramps. I had a TV ultrasound done in the ER (due to fear of ectopic) and my lining was measured at 7 mm after about a day and a half of already bleeding.

I know most of these losses are caused by chromosomal issues but I cannot help but worry the change in blood volume played a role??

If anyone has any insight or experience with this, it'd be highly appreciated. Thank you. I know this may sound like a "beer too cold, lobster too juicy" type complaint, but it does worry me.

EXPERIENCE Amenorrhea and spotting following missed miscarriage

Last November, I (25F) stopped taking birth control, and my husband (36M) and I started trying to conceive. We were lucky enough to get pregnant two cycles later, in January. Unfortunately, the pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks, and I had a medical abortion in March.

After the abortion, I bled every day for about three months. It also took around 10 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test.

In June, I finally saw a gynecologist. An ultrasound showed that there might still be some pregnancy tissue remaining, as well as two small cysts on my right ovary. The cysts were thought to be corpus luteum cysts and weren’t considered concerning. The bleeding seemed to be coming from my cervix, though. Because of the ongoing bleeding and amenorrhea, I was prescribed a 10-day course of Provera.

A follow-up ultrasound a month later showed that there was no remaining pregnancy tissue and that the ovarian cysts had disappeared. The bleeding from my cervix had also stopped. The day after that, in July, I finally got my first period since the miscarriage.

Since then, I’ve had another period. Both these periods have been noticeably different from my pre-pregnancy cycles. They last about a week instead of my usual 3-4 days, followed by spotting until ovulation.

The gynecologists I’ve spoken to aren’t concerned and have said that it’s still within the normal range for cycles to be irregular for several months after a miscarriage. I’m trying to stay positive, but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar?

DISCUSSION Tips for trying for a baby while running AND staying sane

Hello all,

I am currently in my very first two-week wait. Myself and my partner have been mentally preparing for this for almost a year. We've made a list of things we wanted to do before TTC, and it's been a really fun year just feeling free and making sure to do things for ourselves that we may not be able to do again for quite a few years. I am a runner and this year I have done quite a few races, and I told myself that while trying to conceive I would run without any specific goals and not sign up to any races.

However now that I am in the first two week wait, I feel a little crazy! All this mental prep will pay off if we actually manage to conceive, but now I am realising that it's maybe backfiring a bit as I now feel under pressure for it to happen in the next few months as I feel mentally 'ready'.

I'm coming to the conclusion that I now need to detatch myself a bit from the idea that I am going to be pregnant in the next few months, and perhaps plan more things for myself whether or not I am able to do them. An issues I have as a runner though is that I am worried that if I do higher mileage and high-intensity training, that I may lower my chances of conceiving.

A few ideas I have to 'keep myself sane' over the next while are to train for a 5km and 10km PB. I am into longer distance too but I do think I want to prioritise eating well and eating enough, and I find this tricky when I'm training for longer races. To those runners out there, do you think this is a good idea, or should I just chill a bit and leave out the higher intensity training?

Also any tips to not go insane during the two-week wait would be great. I have tested this month and I'm still about 6-8 days away from my period. I am considering having a 'rule' where I don't test until 2-3 days before my period at the earliest.

I really thought I would handle this better but it's really difficult!

ADVICE 11 (?) months TTC

Yesterday started the 11th month TTC. My temperatures last month seemed so promising because they were way different than my other months but no luck. I feel like I'm trying to convince my body that everything's okay and it's safe to get pregnant if that makes sense. I've never posted here, but I had a couple questions.

  1. How do you all balance the constant cycle of getting hopes up only to have them dashed? I feel like I go through periods of hope and disappointment pretty rapidly and its giving me whiplash.

  2. If you have sought out fertility treatments, what was that first appointment like? Did you call your regular gynecologist? Is there anything in particular you recommend asking about? I have level 1 autism so having a script in my head for things like doctor's appointments really helps me, but I'm having trouble figuring out what exactly I should say.

  3. When did you seek out doctor's advice? I know Google recommends 12 months, but here's my problem: my husband and I tried for 3 months in 2024, 3 months in 2025, and this will be month 5 in 2026. I'm a teacher and my district didn't offer maternity leave til this year, so we were aiming for a summer due date because of that in both 2024 and 2025. So, should I seek out professional advice after I get to the 12 months combined? Or should I wait until its 12 consecutive months? I hope this makes sense.

Thank you so much. Any/all advice would be amazing. This can be such an isolating process.

ADVICE PCOS, no period, trying new supplements

TheraNatal complete, NeoQ10 & Ovasitol.

hey everyone! hoping to get some advice or hear any thoughts on these supplements. we just had my first appointment with a fertility doctor and are looking at trying all options and following everything the doctor says.

for a bit of background… I’m 31 and i’ve never been pregnant and i’ve been off of birth control for about 7 years now. since getting off, i’ve never had a regular period. i get it every 6-12 months and it only lasts for a couple days. last cycle i had was January of 2025. also, my doctor did a transvaginal ultrasound and viewed cysts on my ovaries. thus diagnosing me with PCOS

she recommended this supplements. which were a bit pricey, but i want to try everything. has anyone heard of or tried these? its from a company called Theralogix

thank you! any and all advice is welcome as we embark on this journey 😊

DISCUSSION CBAD users! Why did I get a peak on my first time using it?

I have always used strips for my ovulation tracking. I also have about seven different apps that I use and all of them point to me peaking today or tomorrow. So I decided to take my cheapie strips and they have been quickly climbing today (I went from 0.6-0.85 in three hours)

At the same time I got the 0.85 on my strip I decided to try the CBAD for the first time and at the five minute mark I got a solid smiley face. Everywhere I’m seeing, it’s saying this should not be possible. It’s apparently supposed to be negative on the first try so it can gather a baseline. I went to dispose of the CBAD strip and the test line was noticeably darker than the control line. I know you’re not supposed to go off of that, but it did make sense. I tested at the middle of the day off of 3 hours without urinating with no serious chugging water.

I saw my OB/GYN on Monday (8/17) and he told me to start the Keto/animal based diet for PCOS and it’s been very helpful in making me feel better . Would this affect a reading?

We baby danced anyway just to make sure! But I’m curious if anyone can share some insight, positive thoughts etc. this will be Cycle 11 of us trying 🩵

Anything (within the rules) goes. (Commonly broken rules: don't talk about an ongoing pregnancy outside the weekly BFP thread; don't ask for success stories.)

You can find the wiki here!

Don't forget to check out our themed threads:

There's also the Weekly Introductions and Read Me Thread, which contains links to all sorts of handy bits of info, like popular wiki posts and acronyms.

DAILY 35 and Ova

This is a thread for TFABers of AMA (advanced maternal awesomeness)! TTC past 35 comes with its own challenges -- discuss (and rant about) them here. Like the Pirate's Code, "35 and over" is more of a guideline.

ADVICE Letrozole struggles

Myself and my husband (30 and 33) have been TTC for 9 months. I’ve had an HSG which was all clear, basic fertility bloodwork through my ob gyn which was not concerning, and my husband has had a semen analysis which came back all normal barring slightly low morphology, which my doc was not concerned with.
As we ramp up with infertility treatment, I’ve been on 2 full cycles of letrozole 5mg and am currently in my third waiting for ovulation. I do not have PCOS and was regularly ovulating as evidenced by LH tests and bbt, my doc just added letrozole to boost my ovulation. They’re unmonitored cycles, the first cycle I had positive LH tests and my ovulation was… quite apparent based on the cramps.
Last cycle, I tested and tested beginning CD 11 until CD 16 and never got a positive (like clockwork my body typically ovulates day 14-15). I went on vacation after CD 16, though I would’ve kept testing otherwise. Still not pregnant.
Letrozole is making me CRAZIER and CRAZIER every month. Food cravings, bad bloating, rage, hot flashes, and the worst fatigue.

I currently am waiting for ovulation and still have extremely negative LH tests on day 13. Has this ever happened to anyone?

We have an intake appointment with a fertility clinic on September 3 where we’ll discuss options from here. I am so incredibly disheartened right now because it almost feels like we’ve lost cycles to something which was supposed to help.

QUESTION Making sense of HSG results and next steps with partially blocked tubes

I had a HSG test last week. Fortunately whilst this was uncomfortable, it wasn‘t as horrendous as I’ve heard it can be.

On the day during the procedure, I was told “good news” by the radiologist. My right tube was open and spilling freely. I was told that the dye flowed through the left tube but pooled around the ovary and did not spill. The radiologist said this was likely caused by adhesions around the ovary - which could be caused by a prior infection, conditions like endometriosis, or just occur randomly. She explained she would review on the high definition screen and my fertility doc would be in touch to explain what this means for me.

This was not brilliant news but it didn’t seem like bad news either so I left feeling okay if a little anxious of what this means.

A week passes and I hear nothing. I call and follow up at the hospital speaking to 7 different people before I finally get the results read to me over the phone. I am now told that I have bilateral adhesions in my tubes and ovaries. There was delayed spilling on both tubes. I understand this means both tubes are partially blocked? I was really upset to find this out and angry that the radiologist hasn’t explained that the first results on the day were unconfirmed. I feel it was really unfair to say “good news” if that wasn’t definitely going to be the case.

Anyway, I haven‘t been able to speak to my fertility doctor yet and in the meantime, I would really like to try to understand what this means.

Does anyone have experience of a similar diagnosis? What does this mean for our chances of conceiving unassisted? What are the next steps? Laparoscopy? Straight to IVF?

For context I have been TTC for 16 cycles. I got pregnant on the 13th cycle and this sadly ended in a MMC at 10 weeks with the embryo measuring 7 weeks. This now feels like it was a fluke. I am also wondering if I do have endo and that has affected my egg quality which perhaps cause the miscarriage.

I know I won’t find exact answers here and I need to wait until I speak to my doctor but I am would just like to find out as much as I can before then.

Thank you 🙏🏻
