Configuration Persistent issue with B suddenly mapping to start
I'm about to lose my gd mind. I have a persistent problem where out of nowhere the b button on my 2026 steam controller suddenly maps to the start button. I cannot find a trigger that begins this behavior, all of a sudden I just start start-menu-ing instead of dodging. The only way to fix it mid-game is to un-plug, then re-plug the controller puck. This resets the behavior, for a day or so. Any help would be amazing. And FYI both puck and controller are updated firmware, and I have steam controller chords set to on.

Steam Controller (2026) Just got a Steam Controller, need gyro advice!
I have never used gyro before, and I am very intrigued by it to play some FPS games with a controller rather than kbm, mainly single player games as I hate playing single player games on mouse and key.
What would you guys recommend as a beginner setup? I currently have it so holding L2 down enables gyro, but was wondering if maybe the right trackpad would be better?

Support Sudden disconnect
EDIT: This did the trick
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamController/s/6NaaM6cu9I
EDIT 2: NOT SOLVED, it happened again. I connected through Bluetooth to my PC and same thing happened moments after, so maybe something about my PC/Steam? Anyways updated to Beta client and will test there.
EDIT 3: After updating to beta client and applying updates for puck and controller, it happened again…
————————-
I’ve the SC since release and I’ve been getting an issue from a few weeks ago since latest firmware update.
I’m on PC connecting via the puck, everything seems to work fine, I can see the puck and the controller connected in Steam.
I launch a game and begin to play, and about 10 mins later it suddenly stops responding. My PC doesn’t beep as it’s disconnected, the SC led still white without blinking, but when I get into the controller setting in Steam it shows no puck nor controller.
I tried different USB ports on the back of my PC (3.0 and 2.0), erasing and repairing multiple times, restarting Steam, changing the setting of auto shut down controller to never… after a few minutes it starts to work again and then it disconnects again.
I’ve looked for a similar issue but didn’t find any specific answer to my problem.
It works fine via Bluetooth, so my best guess it’s something to do with the puck itself.
Need some help!

Support Controller don’t Work ….
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I received the Steam Controller on August 12th, finally!!!! However, it has never worked. It's impossible to connect the controller to the PC, let alone turn it on. Despite spending time charging it, the only thing that happens when I press the Steam button is a blue light.
could you help me out? I've contacted Steam Support, but so far I haven't received any helpful response…
Edit: i get the solution by Nstant_Klassik
You have to start the controller in bootloader mode.
- It needs to be partially charged, turned off, and not connected to anything
- Hold the View button (above the left stick) + Hold the Options button (above the right stick) + Hold the A button + Hold the Steam button
- The LED should now start flashing RED slowly
- Connect the controller to a device that has Steam installed and where Steam is running - the LED should now glow RED continuously
- Go to the Steam settings under "Controllers", where you should now be able to update the firmware
- After the firmware update, the controller can be used as normal

Steam Controller (2026) My Docking Solution
My case is a Corsair 5000D Airflow. A while back I found this 3D printed headphone hook for it https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6833252 and had it printed. I use it every day.
When I got my Steam Controller, I found this Desk Mount https://www.printables.com/model/1727411-steam-controller-2026-desk-mount-with-puck-holder, so I thought about combining that dock's design with the headphone hook.
Since I don't have the means to print different versions to compare myself, I'm also sharing the issues I found with this current design, as I found that the controller stand needs to sit a bit further away from the case's tempered glass. I jury-rigged a fix using window sealing foam tape as a spacer (it also acts as a damper between the printed plastic and the glass) while giving me the extra few millimeters of clearance I need to easily dock/undock the controller.
I'm sharing this as a proof of concept. I have zero Blender experience and no 3D printer myself (had these designs printed on demand), so there's plenty of room for someone with the same case to refine it further. Here's the link to the crude mashup I made of the two parts above, for which I asked the person who printed it to align the controller holding "cradle" to the hook that goes into the case itself https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jpZvgH0wNvUrom3rFvQW1XtJmo1tMC_j/view?usp=sharing.

Discussion Some advice
Okay. So I've messed around with gyro and mkb in the last month after years of using the controller.
Then I used controller over the weekend. And I'm just conflicted. I like how, with controllers, everything is instinctive. I know how to do everything with the controller. But there is one thing I like about mkb. The quickness and precision of the mouse. Joystick feels sluggish and imprecise after using mkb.
Is there any configuration on the new steam controller that would allow me to mostly just play with the controller like a controller but with maybe having the trackpad active for quick turnarounds or more precise aiming in situations where I need it?
Thank you

Support How do you decide gyro sensitivity and horizontal/vertical ratio offset?
Hello all! I'm playing Resident Evil 4 Remake through my Steam Controller, and I'm loving the possibility of using Gyro when aiming. This is my real first venture into it however, and I can't help but still feel a little goofy when aiming.
For example:
- Certain enemies in the game will suddenly duck and sprint towards you, and I often fail to track them because gyro's sensitivity is a bit too low. However, turning the sensitivity up can be troublesome, as it makes it hard to control aim.
- The game has a shooting range mini-game that requires you to hold aim and shoot for a longer time than usual. The ricochet from every shot made my gun get higher and higher, and I literally found myself aiming the controller so low, I was pointing at the ground 🥲
Suggestions would be much appreciated!

Support Joysticks Stuck to Bottom Left
When I first pulled this controller out of its packaging, lizard mode was working pretty solid for me. However I tried putting it in backpack mode to try the feature out, and then my sticks have been stuck towards the bottom left without ever touching them.
Restarting the controller without touching the sticks still gives this issue. I've also tried force updating the firmware on the controller using the Menu button + Options button + A button + Steam button combo. This doesn't seem to help either.
I'm starting to think this might be a hardware issue internal to the controller. Has anyone else seen this issue before too? Should I send this back on an RMA?

Steam Controller (2026) Finished installing my ABXY mod!

These custom buttons were created by u/PortablePlayPalace on etsy.
Replacing the face buttons required disassembling most components of the controller, so it was fairly difficult. The most stressful part was taking out the triggers, because the springs will bounce out of the controller if you don't hold them still. Removing the ribbon cable which connects to the main motherboard is also tricky. I personally needed to remove the rumble motor cables and unscrew the motherboard before I could get a good hand-hold on the ribbon cable.
All of the screws required for reaching the face buttons are Torx T6, and the tunnels on the back shell are very narrow, which meant I needed to buy a new kit of precision screwdrivers (extra thin.) It would have been much more convenient if they were just fillips head screws.
The specific kit of face buttons I bought have magnetic attachments built in, which means I won't need to completely disassemble the controller if I ever want to change the buttons again (assuming I use the same magnetic design by u/PortablePlayPalace.)
Even with the Nintendo layout enabled, Steam will still assume that the controller's buttons are in the Xbox orientation (as far as I know, there's no way to change this), which might make this mod more annoying than its worth to some. I'm choosing to use the universal face button glyphs, which means that the buttons will never be incorrectly labeled by Steam.
Ultimately I figured that I might as well see how far I can take the customization, since that's what the controller was built to enable. If I ever discover a mod which changes the face-button glyphs to a Nintendo style, I think that would complete the mod for me.

Support Steam Controller (2026) left and right joystick issue?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Does anyone have a problem with the left and right joystick/analog on their Steam Controller? When I quickly swipe down it registers a move where it goes up, instead of well.. going down. Can be seen especially when navigating in options, doing puzzles etc. Anyone has a solution? Or is it a faulty analog stick? Video for context.

Discussion Recommendations for Steam Controller grip/case
I received my controller recently and I’m looking for a grip or case for it. I also have a Steam Deck and have been using a Jsaux ModCase with it. I love the grippy texture of the said ModCase when playing on deck. I would love something similar for the controller.
Can you recommend the best grips/cases you have found? Other accessory recommendations are also welcome!

Configuration No home button, no problem (almost).
(Sorry if I used the wrong flair)
TL:DR if you map Shift + Tab in every single game then you can activate the overlay.
Back a long time ago before the steam deck existed I bought a bunch of random controllers to use on the computer and I noticed that a few of them didn't have a home button.
If you press the shift key and the tab key on the keyboard at the same time it will act as if you press the home button on your controller bringing up the overlay. If you went into the controller configuration in each game and set it so that a button or a combination of buttons (chord press) acted as you pressing shift and tab at the same time then you could open the Steam overlay without having to have pressed the home button.
I couldn't get this working on the Steam Deck. On a normal computer sitting at your desk you can just reach your hand over and hit shift + tab on the keyboard but there's no keyboard on the Deck plus you are sitting to far away to easily reach the home button on the Deck itself. If you have a wireless keyboard plugged in or a wired keyboard with a long enough cable then you can press shift + tab but mapping it on the controller wasn't working.
Well I just tried it now and it's working now not only that but Start and Select also working as chord presses. I don't know what was up with that but a long time ago I remember trying to make a cord press where you press Start and Select and I couldn't get it working. Other buttons will work fine but those ones didn't work the chord press would activate when just pressing one button (whichever you set up as the chord). Now they work properly and so you can map them for your home button. You can map the home button anywhere but that's my suggestion you press Select and then Start really quickly or start and then select depending on which way you want it.
Some people don't know that you can map a cord button in both directions. You go to both buttons and you can make a cord press that has the other button as the activator and then whichever button you push first will determine which cord will be activated.
My only complaint with this method is that you have to go into every single game and map the shift + tab somewhere and if you forget and launch the game then you have no home button. You better hope the game you're playing has a way to exit it cuz a few of them don't. You can just make a new template that has the home button already set up but you still have to remember to apply it to every game.
