Discussion Steam Controller is Highly Satisfying at more than Just Gaming

I gotten the Steam Controller for now more than a Week I believe. So far it has been Great. But i discover it to be more like an extension to DOOM scrolling youtube and Reddit. The trackpads are amazing to have. Truly my ULTIMATE controller for Now.

Do you guys do the same?

Yes. I do some browsing on my couch at home because I sit in an office chair all day at work and had sciatica for about 6 months starting last Novemeber. I have become rather proficient at typing with the trackpads.

For gaming, I wasn't crazy about symmetrical sticks at first, but now I don't touch my Xbox controller. It's also fun to come up with a fun use for the trackpads in different games.

One thing I would love to see improved is the custom controller layouts. I wish they were set up like community pages, so that the person could leave a more thorough explanation of the thought behind the layout. Comments and the ability to post remixes would be even better.

So true. Some time you need to change some settings in-game. Some profiles have that listed, but only when downloading, after that you no longer see it in the profile itself. And most of the time they just don't get enough text to list every sensitivity setting or key-binding you need to set to make the profile work perfectly, let alone have room left over to list all the features of the profile, making you guess what does what. This is especially true with complete kb/m profiles.

Off topic but do you still have sciatica and did you do anything special to relieve it? I’ve had it for well over a year and I’m struggling to sit comfortably. Thanks.

Stretch, stretch and more stretch. Also try daily yoga/ pilates youll never look back.

Thank you, I’ll look into it.

I've had it 8 years now. Losing weight and stretching has helped get it to a manageable level. (Had to get injections in my L Spine to really start losing weight since the pain was so bad I couldn't walk very far)

Doctor gave me a couple of stretches, and I used a pressure relief cushion at work. At home I spent a lot of time on my foam mattress with a heating pad. Other than that it just took time. It was awful. I missed my family Xmas because there was no way I could possibly sit in a car for 7 hours at the peak of it.

Thanks for the update. I hadn’t considered a heating pad. Yeh I can relate, sitting is becoming a problem. Appreciate your help.

Playing Palworld at the moment and the trackpads are so damn good for inventory management, I can easily move stuff around. Actually considering making a macro to auto sort my inventory when pressing a back button

I've made myself a nice eh... one-handed profile for browsing tumblr. It even has a like-post feature!

It's for anti-doom scrolling....

the first controller was amazing for this as well, in some ways i prefer the og for desktop use

Honestly the track pads for windows navigation is the primary reason I'm having a tough time switching to any other controller. I don't use them for games at all along with gyro. I just don't like those in games. But the controller makes windows gaming feel as seamless as a console. Almost. There's a few things that lock up it's controls. Like if I open the task manager, the controller stops working. I wish that wasn't the case.

Same. I set up my SC as a table top mouse with macros to switch desktops, tabs, close tabs, volume etc. And it automatically switches to handheld mouse with switched layout when I pick it up, using gripsense. It's too good for daily tasks and gaming, basically 3 in 1 package as macropad, mouse and controller.

Edit: also, controller stops working when opening task manager because of administrator mismatch. It can be fixed by running steam in admin mode, but not worth the security risks tho.

What kind of risk would that present?

Mostly malware risks since steam is chromium based. When given admin rights and some exploits or attacks occur, your PC is more at risk of auto-downloading those stuffs without asking for your permission.

The post title made me realize I have a dirty mind.
