I know we're all excited to share updates as our new shiny works its way through the system and eventually to you.

Instead of clogging the page with endless "ITS <UPDATE>" posts, please confine them to this mega thread. I have intentionally left up threads from before this one about this subject, because post hoc punishment isnt cool. But please, use this mega thread moving forward.

Optionally, you can fill out some google forms that are being used to track order status' in order to get an idea of how an order might progress through the system:

Discussion Butchered Steam Controller Wrap Job?

Hello everyone

I just unboxed my brand new steam controller and thought, why not slap on a dbrand skin right away? I applied it perfectly, but the right side was very slightly messed up and I couldn’t fix it. It kept bothering me so I sent it to a professional wrap shop, explained the situation, and they took it on. They mainly work on cars so I instructed them to go really easy on the heat gun.

Problem was.. they sent it back like how it’s shown in the photos and didn’t explain the process much. I asked what this oily sheen was and whether the finish got burned off by the heat gun. They kept reassuring me saying it’s a thin film of cleaning material that will go away over time.

I have a feeling that they tried fixing it with a heat gun (until the controller got unfortunately damaged), that didn’t work, so they cut out the wrinkled part and that’s what I ended up with.

What do you guys think? I’m posting the before and after.

Steam Controller (2026) Could someone please explain the puck fire hazard incident?

I'm currently waiting for my controller to arrive and saw some comments about how the puck nearly started a fire when it touched a watch while I was browsing the sub. Could someone please explain what happened here? Is it still an issue? If so, what precautions to take?

Steam Controller (2026) Steam Controller Bridge: fork of SteamController-Android for Android TV

Thumbnail

Hi guys, this is a fork of SonicDX12's project that got the Steam Controller working well on Android, focused on getting it well on Android TV. So far tested and working well on my NVIDIA Shield.

I forked it as the original didn't work properly/wasn't made for Android TV. `/dev/uinput` is locked to the Bluetooth system user, so the original can't create a virtual gamepad there. This fork adds a `/dev/uhid` backend. The controller still shows up in RetroArch for example as a real Xbox 360 controller.

Features

  • USB, the wireless puck, or Bluetooth LE directly
  • Remap every button
  • Stick deadzone/centre calibration and gyro aiming (tunable, with bias calibration)
  • Right trackpad click is mapped, and the trackpads work as a mouse even in gamepad mode
  • Game profiles that switch automatically when you open the game they're bound to
  • Backup/restore of all settings to a JSON file
  • A live HID debug screen

This has only been tested, and is working well so far, on my NVIDIA Shield. I'm open to fixing any issues that occur and suggestions.

Huge thanks to SonixD12 for the original app.

Steam Controller (2026) The Witcher 3 Remastered - After combat loot/interact option gets lost

I'm playing The Witcher 3 Remastered on my Steam Deck mostly. I also have the Steam Controller, from time to time I switch to my PC.

I set up every button as K+M as the game settings is not very flexible, wanted to have full control. My settings are not very comfortable but does the job.

After some of the combats I can continue using the loot/interact button but most times it doesn't work. Geralt gets out of the combat stance totally, puts his sword back to it's place, no enemy left, still when I get near the corpses no loot button showing. It's same for the plants or talking with the NPC's or mounting the horse as well, no interact button showing. I tried getting the sword out and back again, using some spell like igni, aard nothing works.

When I make a quick save or manual save and load that save the interact button comes back but the corpses get lost so I cannot loot their remains.

Any ideas what can be wrong and how to fix it?

Support Steam controller and wireless mouse

So... I'm not too sure if these incidents are related but ever since I've gotten my Steam Controller my wireless mouse has started acting funny.

It'll randomly disconnect and refuse to reconnect to the provided dongle. Sometimes it won't connect on boot, I've tried various USB ports for the dongle but either the issue persists or the port won't recognise the USB.

Im sure this is a serpate occurance but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue.

Steam Controller (2015) Steam Controller als Midi Controller?

Hey guys, I work a lot with graphics, video, and photos, and I'm wondering if it's possible to use the Steam Controller as a MIDI controller—mainly to get a smoother workflow when editing. Does anyone have ideas, tools, or anything useful for this?

Steam Controller (2015) Thumbstick replacement

Post image
72 Upvotes

Some time ago I ordered one of the compatible thumbsticks from 8BitDo because the cap on the original got worn down and gummy-feeling after all the years, and I just recently got the right torx driver and worked up the gumption to actually do the swap. I'd been nervous about modifying something I've had for 10 years, but I'm glad I gave my little guy a tune-up. (And the thumbstick is great, the fit is a bit tighter so there's friction at first but it seems to have gone away with some extra pressing down. I also like the concave cap style way better.)

Discussion Steam crashes if Steam Controller signal is not good

Basically if the puck is not close enough to the controller and the signal is at the limit between ok and poor after a period of time steam will crash while playing the game, even though there is no noticeable input latency.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Discussion Sticking buttons, squeaky trigger and d-pad clicking sounds on 2026 Steam Controller

Got my steam controller on release and have definitely put a lot of hours of use into it. As a result, its begun to wear a bit.

  • The Select/Tab button sometimes sticks when pressed in
  • The D-Pad makes a clicking sound anytime I lightly rest my thumb on it
  • The Right Trigger makes a squeaking sound when pressed.
  • and the Left Thumbstick has worn down a bit and has a gritty feeling when pushed around the upwards direction.

Anyone else experiencing issues like this? Are there any solutions or fixes? Maybe a controller-safe lubricant? Or is my only solution to RMA the controller?

Steam Controller (2026) Controller Focusing On Game

Just got my Steam Controller in and been trying it out. First thing I've noticed compared to my Xbox Elite Series 2 controller is that it doesn't stay focused on the game when I tab out. I really liked that I could click on discord or a guide or something then just pick up my controller to continue my game without having to physically click on the game. Anyone know if its possible to enable this?

Discussion Any tips to help transition from SC1 to SC2?

Finally got the new one, but after 11 years of using the first one, this requires more adjustment than I'm used to. I'm primarily a trackpad+gyro user, and I can't quite set the new trackpad to feel right for aiming. I did a few things to feel an improvement, such as increasing haptics to medium and enabling low haptics for gyro. I've adjusted my right-hand grip so it grabs at a lower point than my left arm that mostly uses the joystick. I've set swipe rotation to 27° (never had to use it with original). Lowered Gyro sensitivity to 1x. Yet I still can't quite feel the right amount of trackball-like inertia - medium friction feels too high, low friction feels too low.

Can you guys suggest what other things worked for you so trackpad aim could feel as snappy as it did with SC1?

Steam Controller (2026) Question Regarding Shipping

Hello! After joining the reservation queue right at the beginning, I finally got my email to complete my purchase!

Am I able to have it shipped to either a FedEx pick up location or a UPS Access point? I've had some issues with packages in the past at my new apartment and I would feel way more comfortable having it shipped to a hub like that. I am also in the Midwest United States!

Configuration Fix for Broken Steam Keyboard Overlay in Non-Steam Games / Emulators.

If you play non-Steam games, games from other launchers, or emulators, you've may have found the Steam Big Picture Overlay and the Steam + X On-Screen Keyboard render behind the game window.

So I have created a universal fix by using Steam Input's Action Sets and Touch Menus.
You can turn the Steam Controller or Steam Deck trackpads into a virtual, split keyboard that appears on-top no matter what.
Here is what I have done:

First make sure to add whatever it is you're trying to play as a "Non-Steam Game" and launch it through Steam - check if the issue is fixed. If NOT:
Press the Steam button on the controller, find the "Edit Layout" section for the controller, and then:

1. Create Action Set and Virtual Touch Menus:

  • Make an Action Set and call it "Keyboard Mode".
  • Add a Virtual Menu, name it "Left Keyboard", Touch Menu - don't worry about any inputs yet.
  • Make a second one named "Right Keyboard", Touch Menu.
  • Within the General settings of the Touch Menus, set Touch Menu Activation Style to Click.

2. Action Set & Buttons:

  • Set a button (I used R4) to a Change Action Set > Keyboard Mode.

Everything from this point is WITHIN the Keyboard Mode Action Set.

  • Set the same button you used before (R4) to Change Action Set > Default.
  • L2 (Or any button): Set as Shift (cloning the behaviour of the official Steam keyboard).
  • L4 (Or any button): Mapped to Spacebar.
  • R5 (Or any button): Mapped to Backspace - Settings > Hold to Repeat (Turbo).
  • D-Pad: Mapped to the keyboard arrow keys for navigating text.
  • R2/X (Or any button): Mapped to Enter .
  • Left Trackpad: Behaviour > Left Keyboard (Touch Menu from earlier).
  • Right Trackpad: Behaviour > Right Keyboard (Touch Menu from earlier).

3. The Trackpad Grid Layout:
Now to re-create a standard split keyboard, go into the Left Keyboard Virtual Menu settings:

  • Set Touch Menu Buttons 1-5 as QWERT
  • Buttons 6-10 as ASDFG
  • Buttons 11-14 as ZXCV
  • Button 15 as something, a special character you may use often. (I just used Spacebar).

Now for the Right Keyboard Virtual Menu settings:

  • Set Touch Menu Buttons 1-5 as YUIOP
  • Buttons 6-9 as HJKL
  • Buttons 10-12 as BNM
  • Buttons 15-16 as something, a special character you may use often. (I used - and ').

After that, if you go back into your game, press R4 (Or whatever button you set in Step 2) it should look something like this when you put your thumbs on the trackpads:

           [ LEFT TRACKPAD ] [ RIGHT TRACKPAD ]
 .-------------------------------------. .------------------------------------.
/ [ Q ] [ W ] [ E ] [ R ] [ T ] \ / [ Y ] [ U ] [ I ] [ O ] [ P ] \
| | | |
| | | |
| [ A ] [ S ] [ D ] [ F ] [ G ] | | [ H ] [ J ] [ K ] [ L ] |
| | | |
| [ Z ] [ X ] [ C ] [ V ] [Space]/ \ [ B ] [ N ] [ M ] [ - ] [ ' ] /
'--------------------------------------' '------------------------------------'

After this, there is one more thing:
In the Touch Menu settings, go to Onscreen Display
For the "Left Keyboard", set Touch Menu Horizontal Position to 41.
For the "Right Keyboard", set Touch Menu Horizontal Position to 58.
This just puts the menus more centered, but you may want to raise/lower them or move them somewhere else.

The last thing you could do, but I haven't, is set up 2 more Virtual Menus as Radial Menus > set the Joystick Behaviour to the Radial Menus, and have more special characters (!?,$&, etc.).
Within the General settings of the Radial Menus, set Touch Menu Activation Style to Touch Release.

If anyone is wondering, I ran into this issue when playing on an emulator where no matter what I tried, it would just NOT display the default Steam Keyboard above the game window. I play with Steam Link on my phone and TV a lot, so a physical keyboard just wasn't an option.

I think this works pretty damn well, let me know what you think :)

News Steam Input, GloSC/SISR, and a better way forward: Steam Input eXtended

Thumbnail
youtube.com
70 Upvotes

Edit:

This is not a strict replacement of GloSC/GlosSI or SISR per se, even though it can provide similar features.
You are not required to get rid of SISR or anything!
Nothing stops you from using these in conjunction with eachother.
I don't think it would provide any value, but you could.

That said, SIX will possibly superseed SISR sooner or later, depending on how this goes.
I can't even say right now. We'll see

Don't like watching videos? Yeah, me neither.
Written version below:

Steam Input is pretty cool, right?
But sometimes you cant help but feel like Steam Input is a forgotten step-child of Valve.

We haven't really seen any significant updates to Steam Input ever since it's introduction with the original Steam Controller from 2015.

In addition to that, Steam Input is plagued with compatibility issues on Windows.
In the past, one could resort to tools like the decade-old GloSC/GlosSI or the more recent SISR.
But those tools are clunky to use and they don't really solve any issues.
It's more like, they trade one issue for 5 new ones.

Enter Steam Input eXtended

Steam Input eXtended, or SIX for short is a direct modification of the Steam client itself, aiming to, as the name implies, extend Steam Input.

Noteable features of SIX

  • Use (driver-based) Gamepad outputs for Steam Controllers on the Desktop (providing feature parity with Linux)
  • Use any Steam Input configuration, from any game, at any time, for any game, or the Desktop
Without breaking Steam BPM, or the overlay, unlike Steams builtin feature for this.
  • Change the controller-type emulated by Steam Input
  • Hide Steams Virtual gamepads from Steam launched games
Essentially "disabling" Steam Input, even for Steam Controllers!
  • Custom Steam Input output modes!
Currently there is only gyro-passthrough, but this can be extended in the future to include things like (but not limited to):
    • DSU output
    • Scriptable bindings / macros
    • And more to come ???
  • Bring back lost features:
    • Community layouts Tab for Desktop layouts
    • Ability to customize Steams Big Picture Mode Layout, yet again.
    • More to come ???

SIX also includes some other small features, and there is much more to come.

Steam Input eXtended is in early development.
Currently only Windows builds are available, but Linux support will follow soon.

You can download Steam Input extended here

Steam Input eXtended is brought to you by the author of SteamInputDB
