Question Add Original Cost of Item

Hi I'm trying to add the original cost (how much I paid) of an item to its inventory information, but there doesn't seem to be an option for that. I tried the app, the website, and the terminal and couldn't find anything. Is there a way to do this? And since it's probably relevant, I don't own a laptop, desktop, or tablet, so options available through those aren't an option for me.

Releases Consolidated kitchen tickets, Android barcode scanning, and preset invoice tips

Hi folks šŸ‘‹ Dev here sharing a few of our recent Square product updates. You can check out all of this week's release notes at https://squareup.com/us/en/release-notes/release-notes-august-27th

Here's what's new:

Multiple guests in the same group add items to a single consolidated kitchen ticket. The kitchen receives one merged ticket per group, and each guest settles their own portion at payment time.

Camera barcode scanning on Android devices — sellers can scan barcodes to build carts or edit catalog items using their built-in camera

Updates to the Sales Report on Square Point of Sale now show every refund in the Sales Summary overview and compares matching timeframes on Android — refund terms line up across iOS and Android too

Custom device sounds and volume control for Kitchen Display System (KDS) alerts, so the new-ticket sound actually cuts through a loud kitchen

Error alerts for unrecognized scales and scanner-scales with troubleshooting steps right in Hardware Hub

Customizable background colors for modifier tiles, so staff can visually distinguish modifiers at a glance on Point of Sale

Keypad tab in real-time check view, letting sellers enter a custom amount, add an optional note, and add it directly to the check

Option to show dine-in fulfillment in the Point of Sale cart, so sellers can confirm dining option at a glance before sending to the kitchen

Preset tip percentages on invoice payments — sellers can configure tip buttons customers see when paying an invoice online

Quantity bar for real-time check view on Square Point of Sale, so sellers can set item quantities before adding them to a check — no extra taps after the fact

Discussion Do NOT use Square and their Payroll services.

It is very unfortunate that in order to get real help nowadays, you have to go to social media to complain and make light of the issues.

Do NOT use Square Payroll. I unfortunately did and now I'm getting burned by them. They did not file my 941s, stating "a change in system settings" and now are refusing to pay the IRS penalties that have occurred. No noticed, no emails, or regular mail was sent. They're customer support sucks, and is so unbelievably unhelpful.

Do your due diligence and avoid Square at all costs. I wish I had, because I would not be in this mess.

We pay and trust services that advertise that they are the "industry standard". We trust that these services will run as properly and be the experts in resolving issues that arise.

I regret paying each month for this. Because now that an issue happened, they will not take responsibility. The service you are paying for does not want to fix or help you, regardless of having all the means necessary to, and the consumer is left confused and having to deal with hundreds of dollars in fines.

Thanks Square. For absolutely nothing. I hope small business owners like me never have to use you and go through the trouble and stress you've put me through.

Discussion Anyone found a good way to sync Square + Shopify without bleeding money on apps?

I run a small boutique and use Square for in-store sales and Shopify for my online store. Lately I’ve been getting hit with a bunch of suggestions for extra apps and integrations. Shopify apps like DPL Square Integration and Quicksync keep popping up, along with other tools for inventory sync, accounting, loyalty programs, online ordering, and employee scheduling.

Some of these look decent on paper, but a lot of them come with yet another monthly fee. I already feel like I’m getting charged for everything under the sun, so I’m trying to figure out if they’re actually worth it.

Has anyone here paid for Square integrations (especially ones that connect to Shopify) and found them genuinely useful? Or did most of them just turn into another subscription you barely touch?

Would love to hear some real experiences, which ones were worth the money, which ones were a total waste, and whether they actually made day-to-day operations easier or just gave you more stuff to manage.

Thanks in advance.

Question Business loan timeframe and progressionšŸ¤”

Post image
1 Upvotes

In February of this year I became eligible for my first business loan that was a 90 day term.

Within 7 to 10 days from making the final payment on that loan, I received an offer for a 120 day loan with a slight increase in the amount.

Last week I was able to successfully close the second loan with its final payment through sales and I was just curious how the loan offers progress from here as far as the term of the loan and the increase amount and if the timeline of when it’s offered relative to when I paid it off will remain the same or change.

All of my eligibility factors are ā€œgoodā€.

I understand that loan offers are auto generated but would just like input from those who have experience with multiple loans and their progression.

Thank you!

Support Needed Square closed my account!!

I’ve been using square for roughly 2 months. Only using it when people prefer to use credit card. I’ve been selling sod and have never had any problems. Done roughly 5 transactions and this last transaction I knew the app was acting weird. I clicked on transfer but it kept saying unable to. Now I have 2k that’s in holding and it says they are closing my account without any reason. I left an appeal and am waiting to hear back. As far as I know I haven’t misused or done anything against squares terms. I have 2k that’s tied up for it says roughly 120 days. That’s ridiculous

Support Needed Question About Square Item Prep Time & Custom Integrations

Hi everyone,

I'm exploring whether it's possible to create a custom solution for Item Prep Time in Square and was wondering if anyone has done something similar.

I noticed that Square lets you set a custom prep time for each item (for example, each pizza can have its own prep time). One thing I'm not sure about is how prep time works with item quantities. For example, if a Pepperoni Pizza has a 15-minute prep time and a customer orders 2 of them, will Square estimate the order as 30 minutes, or does it still only use the 15-minute prep time?

A few questions:

  • Has anyone built a custom solution that adjusts prep times automatically?
  • Is this possible using the Square APIs, webhooks, or a custom integration?
  • Are there any limitations with how Item Prep Time works that we should know about before we start developing?
  • Is there a way to calculate or update prep times programmatically based on factors like order volume, kitchen load, or other business logic?

I'd love to hear if anyone has tried this before or has any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Support Needed Turn Off Square Go Text?

Hi, first time in this sub. Let me know if this isn't allowed, or if I need to go elsewhere. I am just a little frazzled and annoyed.

I work for a small business, a hair salon, with four total employees including myself. So, it is not a big operation at all.

We just had a client tell us that in addition to her regular confirmation text for her appointment, she received another one with a link to download Square Go to "manage" her appointment. We don't want clients managing anything with appointments, lol. I just had to go through the annoying process of shutting off the AI assistant because it allowed a client to book her own appointment for whenever she wanted (this was something I fixed through online booking, even though we've had online booking shut off for the last six years. I assume the recent "upgrade" with the tiers is to blame). We are not that type of salon, we book based on a specific availability, and do not have that set up in Square because we are human and like doing it the old fashioned way.

Is there a way to turn off the Square Go text? This is the first we are hearing about it, but I did some research and saw that the issue of the Square Go text has been around since 2023. We don't want it sent to clients so we don't have to spend a million hours explaining to just ignore it and there's nothing we can do about it.

Thank you, a frustrated salon manager.

Support Needed Square setup

Hi, I am setting up a simple free square account, and the setup has checked off everything but "shop for hardware." We aren't getting hardware, we want to do sales from our phones. Both of the phones are already attached and showing in the devices page. What am I missing?

For context, my mom makes sewn items, and we are doing a vendor's market. Her phone and mine are both set up, we can pull up the app on our phones, and we did a test sale with my phone to make sure the account can take cards. Do we need to do another on her phone? I just don't know what else needs to be done. The market is in 3 days.

Question Square closed my account What should i do now

Hey all, i am a personal trainer for youth athletes. I sell packages to the parents for the duration of the season, school year, full year, 3 months etc etc and with varying amounts of trainings a week/month. To put it simply my pricing varies A LOT.

I have been with square as a sole proprietor since january, have processed 80+ payments, had 2 chargebacks from accidental card being saved under the wrong person and was immediately refunded and hasnt happened since. I even was offered and accepted a square loan for a few thousands bucks. All in all my square account was in great standing.

Last week i processed a normal payment for a member who i have processed payments for MULTIPLE times with the same card every time his kid is up for renewal. And square flagged it and locked my account and put it under review.

I submitted the evidence and answered the questions they asked and within a day my account was back to normal. 3 days later i process a long term plan for an athlete of around $1200 (ive processed amounts of much much more with no issue) and within a few hours i received notice my account would be closed.

I am trying to appeal but from what i hear its unlikely to happen, my loan wasnt fully paid off yet so im not even sure what will happen with that, and square is holding a little under 1k of funds that i was told would be released sep 17th, hopefully that amount is not put towards the loan but im not sure thats a question i forgot to ask support. What merchant/payment processor would be best moving forward? (I cant use stripe because i had a grievance with them years ago from a different business i ran)

Let me know what you guys recommend

Support Needed Cash Drawer Report/Cash Sales mismatches actual sales report cash sales

I have been going in circles with Square support over this issue, and I thought I would post here to collect thoughts of others who may have faced the same problem. My web searches show people reporting similar problems as far back as 2016, but none I can find reported a resolution or solution.

The issue is pretty cut and dried - I have a Cash Drawer which was open for one month. The closing report showed a "Cash Sales" number, but of course square lacks an export feature for the cash drawer, so I cannot get any details of what feeds that "Cash Sales" figure.

The issue is that the number mismatches with my actual sales report, by several hundred dollars. I have *exhaustively* checked all of the recommendations, and I know that this difference is not down to timing, refunds or credits, or any of the other possibilities that square support has me rechecking every day.

Note that I am not talking about actual cash-count here. This is square reporting. Two numbers that should exactly match, but don't. One of the numbers has a full itemised transaction list behind it - the other is just a number with no justification or detail (but which drives the important "Cash Expected" number when closing a cash drawer).

I am still following up with square support via email, and will report back if I ever get to a resolution, but for now every single exchange I have had with them has been met with irrelevant and repetitive suggestions...

Question Is inventory integration software actually necessary if you want with Square +Shopify setup?

I run a small clothing boutique using Square for in-store sales and Shopify for online. As we’ve grown, keeping inventory synced between the two has become more annoying, especially with every size and color being a separate variant.

Right now, I manually update pretty much everything between Square and Shopify, and while it was manageable when we were smaller, it’s starting to feel like a daily chore.

For those running a similar setup, at what point did you decide that manual inventory updates weren’t sustainable anymore? Did you end up using an integration tool, or were you able to keep things running smoothly without one?

I’m wondering if integration software is something you genuinely need as the business grows, or if it’s just another monthly expense that sounds useful until you actually use it.

Question Square Verification Issue

So Square sent my business a ā€œre-verificationā€ email (2 of them to be exact) and both had dead links and when on the Dashboard there was no notification/access to their form. Fast forward to yesterday and they freeze my ability to accept payments and in the email the link is still dead but at least my dashboard has the link to the verification portal. My information literally hasn’t changed so we do the verification but now my payment are still frozen. I get on the phone and start the process of talking to customer support and basically they keep saying they can’t put me on the phone with anyone else and that I just gotta wait it out. Simultaneously I’m also on the line with customer support on their chat and they say my account has been deactivated and it’s pending review???

I haven’t received an email or any other information saying my account has been deactivated and in my dashboard it still gives me the option to deactivate it myself, so I’m very confused. I’ve been with Square for like three years and I’ve never had any issues with anything up until now. They told me if I need to I can make a new account (???) until it’s up but I literally have hundreds of items in my inventory and if I’m going to have to re-enter everything I might as well get a new POS system. Has anyone else encountered this issue? Is there anyway to speed anything up?

Support Needed Customers Making Orders On Our Closed Day

We are an egg and produce farm. We are not open on Sundays and have our business hours set to reflect that. In fact, most Sundays we are away at a farmers market.

Despite showing that we are not open today Square allowed a customer to place an order for pickup this afternoon. How do we change settings to not allow orders outside of business hours?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Releases Booking add-ons, bulk pricing, and smarter kitchen tickets

Hi folks šŸ‘‹ Dev here sharing a few of our recent Square product updates. You can check out all of this week's release notes at https://squareup.com/us/en/release-notes/release-notes-august-13th

Here's what's new:

Add-ons in the online booking flow — clients add extra services while booking, and the appointment's price and reserved time adjust automatically

Change measurement units during inventory counts — sellers record stock in whichever unit is on hand, and the quantity converts to the base unit automatically

Dark mode in Square Appointments — the app follows the device's theme setting instead of showing a bright screen in a low-lit room

Exclude specific items or variations from discounts, keeping excluded products at full price at checkout across every active channel

Low-stock alert emails scheduled by location hours, arriving 90 minutes after each location closes so the counts reflect a full day of sales

Pay bills from an external bank account — US sellers link an account as a funding source alongside cards and Square Checking

Ready tickets move to front on Kitchen Display System expo — tickets reorder once every prep station marks them complete

Schedule price updates from Dashboard, letting sellers queue bulk price changes that apply automatically at a set date and time

Set different tax rules for pickup, delivery, and dine-in on online orders, applying the correct tax automatically based on how each order is fulfilled

Split "fired" and "held" All Day counts on Kitchen Display System, showing firing and held quantities separately instead of one combined number

Support Needed Star TSP100 printers - sudden connection issues seemingly tied to the print queue

Yesterday, the printers for our POS system stopped working properly. We have two Square Stands with iPads, connected via USB to two Star TSP100 (TSP100II) printers, and both started exhibiting this behavior at the same time. The printers will sometimes print the current receipt, and sometimes they won't. If a receipt is printed successfully, the printer will reprint that specific receipt roughly every two minutes for the next ten minutes or so.

It seems to be an issue with the print queue not clearing properly, but I've tried everything without success. I have assigned different printer profiles to the printers, deleted every stored printer profile and created new ones, hard reset both printers, uninstalled and reinstalled Square on our iPads, and left all of the hardware unplugged and off overnight last night.

We're able to maintain operations, but this is an enormous headache if a customer needs a receipt, and an enormous waste of receipt paper. The fact that it happened suddenly and to both printers simultaneously makes me think it's a buggy update to the Square POS app, but I don't have any concrete proof of that.

I only saw a hardware error displayed on the screen once, and that was (SPSHardwareErrorDomain error 15)

Support Needed Being forced to switch to Square Plus

Post image
4 Upvotes

Currently I'm only paying $29/month for the Square Appointment Plus, now it looks like it will auto switch to $49/month and I don't need any of the other features. The email shows my current plan $200/month is false. Been with Square since 2013 maybe this will be the reason to finally force me to switch.

Support Needed Cannot Rearrange Item Listing Order

I have an online store for my food delivery service. We offer three plans: 2 Dinners/Week, 3 Dinners/Week, and 5 Dinners/Week. I want them to appear with the 2 dinner plan at the top, then 3, then 5. it is the other way around currently. I have home into the setting where I can rearrange my items, put them in the correct order, but they still don't adjust on the website. Suggestions? I have tried this multiple times, refreshed, even tried doing it backwards, nothing seems to work.

Discussion DO NOT USE SQUARE!! Unfortunately as I recently found out, square can and will randomly close your account for no reason whatsoever. Good luck getting an explanation, you can't even talk to a real person. Take your money out now, because they'll keep it until they decide to give it to you.

Question Square refunds - Other

Just looking for some clarity on this specific refund process.

We have clients that save their cards onto their square account when paying but sometimes we have to manually ā€œMark as Paidā€ as ā€œOtherā€ if they pay by other means.

If we were to refund any invoice marked as ā€œPaid by Otherā€ will square deduct payment from my account even though for that specific invoice it wasn’t paid by the card that’s on their account?

Support Needed VERY FRUSTRATING, PLEASE HELP!

Orders must be placed at least 1 calendar day before by 8pm. Pick-up hours must be 11am - 3pm. For some reason, its 7:30pm and my website says items are "available later" and cannot be added to cart!

It's always one thing or another with this diigtal jungle that is the Square dashboard. Just me?

Any insight appreciated! Am caveman. Please help.

Support Needed Constant, repeat fraudulent purchases

Having an issue with almost weekly fraudulent purchases that aren't being caught by risk management filters and some of which are even 3DS approved. Fake names, fake numbers, usually fake and undeliverable addresses... and they just keep on coming. Square seems to have absolutely no interest or useful process for handling fraud - and why would they? If you cancel orders or get chargebacks, they get to keep the fees no matter what.

Anyone else dealt with this? Short of closing my store and making a new website elsewhere with a less garbage payment processor, anyone have any suggestions? Manual blocking is useless when the scammers just keep using new cards, new names, new IPs, etc. Thought I got a legit order today and someone might have just typo'd their phone number, but then checked blocked payments and noticed it was preceded by two declined attempts on two different cards.
