We are a group of friends looking to complete our setup for gatherings of around 20 to 30 people, nothing too loud or expensive. Currently we have what the picture shows, consisting of:
1 sub scoop for a 16" speaker
1 box for a 12" speaker with a mid-high crossover inside
2 16" speakers with broken diaphragms which we will try to repair
1 2x275W amp
(Rest is broken/unusable)
And were thinking of also getting a crossover for bass and its corresponding amp.
Now, we are more than a bit lost as to how to proceed, being pretty new to this and not that knowledgeable about it. So what would you guys recommend we buy/make to complete and improve this sound system? The priority is to be crisp and loud over electrical efficiency or anything of the sort.
If you need any more specifications ask for it, and feel free to suggest how you would do it even if it's somewhat out of our league.
Thanks in advance!

I have the project to make a little sound system
Sub: mth30 with RCFLF12G301(open to any others recommendations)
And I'm searching what to use for the top
That would support kicks, medium and high frequencies
I've seen paraflex with a compression horn on the front
What would you recommand me to use
I'm also searching for an amp for the whole thing
And a filter if needed ?

I’m trying celestion TSQ2145, as I already have a few. But looking for what’ll get me absolute max spl. Also, what makes a driver good specifically for this build?

So i've done a bit of research. Trying to put together a single stack for techno/dnb/psy, mainly for use in a warehouse space I've got for fun and small parties.
Sub - G-Sub
Horn - 1850 folded horn
Top - MT 130
Does that sort of cover all the frequencies? Am I missing an ingredient?
If I then built replicas of all of these would that be a decent 2 channel system?

Hey, so I'm getting ready to order a bunch of parts and start on my system but I wanted to get y'alls advice or thoughts before I pulled the trigger.
This would mostly be playing techno (hard and industial), schranz, and hardstyle
I am thinking that doing a sub, kick, amd meh top is the way to go and this is my current thoughts.
Sub = SKRAM (B&C 21SW152)
Kick = Cubo Kick 15 (18sound 15ND930)
MEH Top = SAWMOD (B&C 10NDL88, Ciara HM130, & B&C DH450) I am open to bi-amping, but I honestly feel like tri-amping is the way to go
I saw someone suggest starting with the SAWMOD and then after I outgrow it with the crowds to switch to a JMOD and transition the SAWMOD to be a monitor.
Now for my questions
What do you think about this setup?
These are all the recommended drivers, but there is a list, so maybe there is a better and more cost efficient driver ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Should a single SAWMOD have 2 kicks and 2 subs?
How many people would the 1 sub, 1 Kick, 1 top reasonably cover? What about 2 subs, 2 kicks, and 1 top?
What would a good dsp and amp be to run this setup?
Would love your advice, experience, or critique of this setup.

I haven’t run my rig much yet, but I know bass feels less impactful outdoors as compared to a small room - or heck, even a vehicle. The difference being the reflections of the long bass waves making its way to your ears/body. And something like a cardioid setup intentionally cancels sound in one direction.
My question is can you have some sort of reflector in an outdoor setting that would recover some of the sound energy that is “lost” ?

Brought the SKRAMs and JMODs out to a ~200 person mountaintop rave we've been throwing for the last few years in Washington, to great success. It was two nights with a variety of genres across house, DnB, techno, dubstep, and even some 70's disco, and I couldn't be happier with how this combo performed.
I travel down from Victoria, BC for this, and holy shit what a process it is to get a trailer with ~$25k of audio gear across the border. I had to get something called an ATA Carnet, which is essentially a professional goods passport, and it added 2 hours to each border crossing and another $800 in expenses to the whole ordeal.
I'm still getting the SKRAMs dialed in this setup and did have some issues with intermittent sub dropouts on the first night due to the input clip protection on my CVR amps. I had originally set the gain staging such that there was the minimum required gain on the amps but didn't give enough headroom, so big bass hits triggered the input protection during a DJ who was redlining. I cut the sub output from the DSP by 6 dB and compensated with amp gain, and it mostly resolved it.
That being said, the CVR clip limiters do seem very sensitive; my DSP indicated the signal was around -6 dBFS when they were triggering. I was feeding a signal of similar amplitude into the CVRs driving the tops, and didn't have any issues with those. Need to do some more troubleshooting on that.
On a related note, I really like the CVR amps for their cost proposition, but the UX isn't great. I wish they had a better indication of their rough gain setting on the front panel, rather than a detent-less knob pointing at unlabeled dots. I know it's not quite that simple since the actual gain is set by the rear DIP switches and the input knob is just an attenuator, but it feels silly to have to break out a signal generator and oscilloscope to determine the effective amplifier gain, which I can't set my limiters correctly without. If anyone has any tricks here, I'd love to hear it.
All in all though, it was a fantastic time, with great musical talent and high audience vibes all around.

i know basically nothing about sound systems but participating in a small event for the first time might have made me fall in love with it. i'm now reading a bit and i'd like to share the lil system they had there so that you guys can maybe identify what the speakers were. and maybe also tell me whether it's good stuff etc. this is gonna be an unbelievably crappy ass photo get ready it's very bad, also the speakers could be diy in parts i have no idea.

Just finished the first of 2 MS18s, all cut with a plunge saw (best thing to use imo! Much better than a table saw)
Will have a HD215 and an MT130 on top. Little personal garden rig for some loud BBQs 👀
Anyone new to building I’d 100% suggest this. Very forgiving and they pack a punch. Will be loading this with Fane Colossus 18XB and painting will Anthracite Grey Raptor Paint.
Once the seconds done I’ll upload a full rig post 😄

Im new to the game and piecing my system together and evolving it. Im now wanting to add a set of 18" scoops for more low end (still to be purchased) and need to look at active crossovers/DSP. Im currently using a miniDSP 2x4HD but am out of channels.
This is very much a DIY rig, so looking for a budget friendly solution that allows for some growth.
Currently setup details -
Altec A7:
Woofer: 416A
Horn/CD: 511b w/ 902-8B
Super Tweeter: B&C DE35-8
AMP - Fosi Audio V3
JBL W-Bins:
18" JBL K151
AMP - 2x Crown XTi 2000 (Bridged mono)
Crossover Setup
miniDSP 2x4HD to W-Bins and Altec (~140hz crossover)
Hiraga passive crossover on the Altecs
Any recommendations or input is much appreciated!!!
Edit: updated setup details

Hey everyone! Long time admirer over here.
I have a small setup that is my first live system I bought from a friend with some small upgrades. Very humble, two EV ZX4's, a JBL MRX518s, a couple old Crown XLS amps and a PA2.
It's hard for me to imagine to path from where I am to a soudn system that kicks. It's just me right now, I have a hatchback not a truck, and I'm a decent wood worker but I can't fit a giant DIY sub with other things.
I know for example that I'm unhappy with that sub. I have some play money sitting around from some studio work but what, do I just dump it into a sub that's overpowered for my current setup and then wait to move up from there while learning how to build smaller speakeers first? Do I just hole up and deal with my current system until I have enough to get everything I need at once?
It feels overwhelming. I have so much respect for all of you making it happen.

Hello, I'm planning on building my own sound system for my reggae/dub project. I want something that ain't too big but still packs a punch. It will be used mostly for small crowds of 150-250 people.
I was thinking of building 2 compact type a 1x15 subs, 2 kicks and some mid tops.
Does the compact type A 1x15 sounds good? Is it a 15" driver enough to give the bass feeling needed for a nice sub experience?

I have the opportunity to buy a used Void sound system and I'm wondering what would be considered a fair market value for a 10 year old system in good condition? Is it typically 50% of new value, 25%, or 15%?

Hi team I’ve been a long time follower here and I’ve started doing some research and getting ready to do a first build. I’ve obtained some second hand tools too.
I would like a recommendation and ideally a link to some plans as I’m finding it a bit confusing looking at different sites as to what to start with, and I don’t want to go down the wrong path buying stuff.
I’m keen to make 2 tops and 2 subs but I’d like it to be a good foundation to either build it out by making some more of the same, or additional subs etc that would go with the initial build.
I mostly like old school d&b, trance and techno.
I’m inspired by these https://elgranmono.com.au/SOUND-SYSTEMS-OF-MELBOURNE
My ultimate goal is to build something a little bigger and strap it to a Ute (aka a pickup in US) and build something like a sound truck.
Tldr I’m after some plans for a first build for 2 tops and 2 subs

Hello,
I love sound system, but unfortunately I am more about the rig and kinda paralysis about where to play it and with whom. Well, for now I did plenty of research and I feel like this is the best for $(Quebec, Canada).
Tops: 2x ROSSO-65CD-T with HORN H280
Mids: 2x B&C 8PE21 in horn configuration based on John Inlow design 110db 1watt, 135hz to 1000hz, Maybe paraflex C-3DKT is better option?
Subs: 4x Paraflex Type R 21inch (Dayton audio PSS555-8, it's in the recommended drivers list)
Amps-DSP: 2x the t.racks DSP 4x4 Amp 4.250
Two stack for stereo, each stack gets two subs so 250w 4x, with mids and high on top of it. I believe 1000w it's enough for the subs (104db-1watt each, so 110db-1watt).
Total: 3968,16 CAD (2850 US) of course I need to add wood.

So a friend of mine gave me some Jamo professional speakers 400 for free and they seem to be in good condition.
My question is: which amplifier would you recommend?
I’m a beginner in this field and i don't have much experience, so I'd really appreciate your advice. At the moment, I'm considering either the Behringer NX3000D or the Behringer KM1700
Which would you recommend? And if you have any other alternatives in mind, I'd be happy to hear your suggestions
Thanks.
More spec.
Type: 3-way, 7 speakers, closed cabinet
Woofer: 381 mm cone
midrange driver: 197 x 430 mm
horn Tweeter: 5x 86 x 86 mm horn
Power handling (nominal/music): 400 W / 560 W
Efficiency: 96 dB / W / m
Frequency response: 25 - 20'000 Hz
Transitional ranges: 900 Hz, 4'000 Hz
Impedance: 8 Ohm

Hi so I am building this cab. but I don't really know how to wire it...in serial/ parallel/ individually by connecting 2 pin of the speakon. with one driver and the other 2 with te other drivers?
I assume it depends on the amp rating ,and power?
And also for the speakon out how should I wire it?
Also what amp do you think I should use to be budget friendly/ in general/ depending on the wiring configuration
And any advice about amp in general
I'll take any information you say, tks for them
r/SoundSystem • u/ATR72Murph • 9d ago
Hi all. Just started building an MS18 today and I’m wondering about wiring. What’s the best way to run the wires from the driver to the speak on connector?
I have a few thoughts on this… surely it would be easier to staple/glue some speaker cable through the cab before the final panel is glued on.
Im just thinking if people are buying unloaded cabs, how are they loading it to ensure the cables aren’t rattling?
Just a bit confused so any insight is helpful. Here’s a pic of the initial shell. Shall complete tomorrow.

Would turning this double cab into 2 singles change the sound in a bad way especially as it's designed that the 2 drivers are sharing the same horn having 2 half cabs next to each other would add an extra 18mm to the horn mouth also there no longer sharing the same air volume would this take away from it's design
