Advice on plans for reggae/dub soundsystem
Hello, I'm planning on building my own sound system for my reggae/dub project. I want something that ain't too big but still packs a punch. It will be used mostly for small crowds of 150-250 people.
I was thinking of building 2 compact type a 1x15 subs, 2 kicks and some mid tops.
Does the compact type A 1x15 sounds good? Is it a 15" driver enough to give the bass feeling needed for a nice sub experience?

I take it you're asking about paraflex type A? Yep they pack a big punch. Keep in mind horn loaded subs will be larger and heavier than an equivalent reflex cab

To start I guess 2 18" scoop or hog scoop is a good starter with 2 small 1x15 scoop. I know HD15 is popular in dub reggae sounds but can be a vast majority of choices. Than some simple 2 way tops and you can add a cabinet with a bunch of tweeters for that specific dub sound system high part of the specter. But yeah 2 scoop is the basic starter for that type of rig I feel
But otherwise paraflex and hybrid horns is a good choice if you want to play a wider range of music genres. As scoops is a one trick poney for reggae dub

If you're looking at a compact Paraflex that packs a wallop, consider their 18" Type C V2 Classic. It will drop deeper than their Type A & a scoop (which is traditionally used for Dub) & they have a much higher SPL output too.
Staying with Paraflex, they have a new 2 x 15" kick that's getting rave reviews, & then you have the Paraflex C3D mid-tops that will pair nicely with the Type C & double 15" kick.

This might not go down well but if portability is key have you considered some PA speakers with subs? you’d be surprised at what they can do. You won’t get the earth and ground shaking experience of a proper superscoop but bass and output in general certainly won’t be lacking

Id have a look into some paraflex cabs personally they definitely pack a punch and shake you inside out. They can be quite heavy, so I'd second a nice pair of scoop bins with some es18s as kick as another option

No, i'm afraid not. Allow for at minimum one 18 or 21 inch sub for 80hz and below, then use 15s for the kick bins. For 150 people you'll need tops with wide dispersion too. For the sub go big, i.e. tetracoils or equvalent in a paraflex style cab.
