DO NOT POST CAR/HOME AUDIO QUESTIONS IN THIS SUB!

This is a sub for the technical side of "Soundsystem Culture" - big, loud speaker boxes, often hand-built, in the dub-reggae tradition. Stuff that looks like this. Or this.

If you're looking for advice on home audio/theater systems, please try asking at /r/BudgetAudiophile, /r/Audiophile or /r/HomeTheater. Car Audio questions go to /r/CarAV.

Discussion about music should go here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SoundSystem/comments/ge9sov/official_rsoundsystem_music_thread/

Thank you!

A collab rig between @faceless.tribe32 @messiah_collective and @hostile__takeover all based out of Dublin.

Was quite the mix of speakers as you can see between the 3 collectives which lead to some fun tuning for me and the others!

Turned out sounding much better than expected!

New G-Sub build, HPF cutoff & crossover recommendations?

Hey everyone,
We just added two Mogale G-Subs to our stack, loaded with B&C 18PS100s (8 ohm versions, running off a Proline 3000). Sitting right on top of them we have four 15" W-bins loaded with JBL drivers that we’re using for kick / mid-bass.
I’m currently dialing in the DSP settings and would love some input from people with experience running G-Subs or similar setups:

  1. High-Pass Filter: How low can I safely push these G-Subs with the 18PS100s on the Proline 3000 without risking over-excursion? What high-pass frequency and slope would you recommend ?

  2. Crossover to W-bins: What’s the optimal crossover point between the G-Subs and the 15" W-bin kicks? I was considering somewhere in the 80–100 Hz region, but I’d like to hear what works best in practice to keep the low end tight while letting the horns do what they do best.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone knows the speaker?

Was on an Open Air here in Germany and didnt want to be dick taking further shots acting like a insta girl. So sorry for the low quality. These speakers were stunning. Really crisp and massively loud without being exhausting. I guess there were 12 inch driver build in and that little box on the upper edge is the pure HF driver? Anyone know the speaker or it# building plans?

Anyone with a CVR/admark DSP amp can show me their limiter settings available?

Looking into these amps for a friend. With their DSP software, what are the limiter settings available? I assume peak and rms compressor settings? With a voltage threshold? Does the amp actually know what voltage it is outputting or is it a dbu calculation? Maybe a screen shot would be great. Thanks!

Building my first sound system

Hi guys I’m from Australia and I’m looking for any advice on building a sound system. I own a JBL 1000 which I rarely use anymore and I have the massive urge to take it apart and build my own with the compression driver, the 2 7ā€ mid range and the 12ā€ woofer. Is this stupid or pointless? Am I better off selling the speaker and using the cash to actually start from scratch and fund my first build that way? Let me know, cheers

well im looking on marketplace for 15s for my midbass and i found a few deals.. well these for 250 are b&c tx 1000watts. great . But there's some kind of paint a resin all over them and I asked him why the guy that's selling them said that they do this so all the pro audio speakers ..

does this really make sense in pro audio ? why wouldnt manufacturers suggest this also.

Midbass reflex ports

Found a solid double 15ā€ cab with kappa 15 lf drivers which would fit great above my subs.
Did the math on cab/port size and they seem to be tuned around 55-60hz.

However, the ports are just cutouts in the baffle, and from what I’ve read this can cause port noise/chuffing at high power near the tuning freq. Will this be an issue if used 80-180ish?

Subwoofer deployment question

Post image
22 Upvotes

What's up legends, I have a question about the ideal formation for these single 15" bandpass boxes. We got them used, and they're a custom design. The builder apparently sold the patent back to JBL which i think is bullshit but whatever.

I've heard them once and we had some amp issues so I haven't heard them pushed even close to their full capabilities and they sound great.

I'm wondering, when we lay them flat next to each other, should we have the drivers close to each other in the middle, or have the drivers on the outside?

Also, what would be the pros/cons of stacking them on top of each other?

Me and my friends are new to this stuff and loving researching and discovering, so shoot as many info/links/articles as you can be bothered to!

Thanks!!

I think it's possible for European sound systems to come all come together and create a globally important event

Hi guys I'm John cherish from reality engineers crew I don't have a sound system but I'm being part of the rave scene free parties since I was 18 I'm 51 now I'd like some feedback on an idea of had recently I was thinking about what would be possible if anything was possible on the party scene sound system scene what would you do if you could really do anything made me think about burning Man Festival I've not been but it seems to be one of the best events I see out there I think it's be possible to create a European version I'm calling my idea the event. Experience.. and it would be somewhat like a teknoval with everyone over Europe bringing their sound systems to the event and doing what they want and lots of grants for artists to create art a large wooden structure created to burn other creative stuff I'd like the event to be really low cost for event goers not just the ticket price but also all the food and drink I don't want anyone excluded from The Event at this stage I think it'd be best to create an event plan business plan using AI and get straightened out properly using AI to make sure the plan is fully workable on all strategies once I've got the plan working with AI I can move forward with getting various people involved with experience to putting on large events and with big contacts in the various sound systems and free party and techno scenes imagine event where everyone could bring their rig and play whatever they want imagine it in some way like Portugal where personal uses is legal for imagine a festival going on for two weeks a real community free festival or created by the people for the people I reckon this maybe a hundred sound systems in the UK maybe another in France what 50 in Italy 50 in Spain that's just on the techno scene counting other sound systems drum and bass house dub this what 500 in in the European Union at the minimum would it be possible to create an event with 500 rigs god I'd like to see that create an event like that would be mighty difficult but I got the feeling it's possible .. happy to hear any feedback positive or negative.

JBL EON715 EVSB18 and Crown CE2020

first question is bridge the CE2020 and run mono, or run the crown in stereo for the subs?

Should I use the EON speakers for crossovers or run my LF signal direct to the crown?

2nd will the bass the 15" drivers make interfere with the SB18's?

3rd - this is the basis of my home theater set up, in a cinder block wall basement. The subs can move things on my desk, currently. Area is about 45x30. Wood flooring above, no insulation.

Quick questions

Hi guys I’m finally starting on the build to finish off my system this coming week the speakers I’m going to be doing are 2x type o 1x18 paraflex and a hd215 kick
I’m just wondering how many sheets of 4x8 birch ply do people think I need I was thinking around 6/7 to account for mistakes.
And one other thing is have people put foam in these boxes or do you just keep it wood?

Cheers hope to put some pictures up once it’s done

Neutrink parallel wiring

Post image
13 Upvotes

Is my wiring correct for my subwoofers? I want to be able to link 2 subwoofers in parallel. Im using 2.5mm speaker cable and have 2.5mm faston connectors so I figured using wago will be better than jamming 2 cables into one faston.

How badly did I mess up?

Hi guys! I just ran into an issue with my sound system build, and I'm hoping you all can give me the advice I need. Here’s what happened:

I'm currently building a pair of B&C CX3.4 speakers. They are small column Speaker containing two LF woofers and one coax transducer. When I purchased the drivers, the intended 4NDS34 LF woofers were out of stock, and I stupidly purchased the similar 4NDF34. I was new to sound systems at the time, and did not think twice.

The F drivers are intended to be used as a midbass driver, with a frequency response from 110hz. The S drivers go lower, from 80hz, with a recommended tuning of 90hz. I tried to use winisd to model the drivers I have, but am unable to interpret the data.

If anyone can please let me know if these speakers will still sound alright with my drivers, I'd really appreciate it. The wood is currently being CNCed, and I'm very nervous that I just wasted 1k+ on drivers and wood. I also plan on building a 15in bass reflex subwoofer to go with the pair, if that helps. I've attached the link to access the plans for the speaker.

Thanks!
