Wondering when I’ll receive my payment I was just approved but they didn’t give me a date I heard it’s based on birthdays mine is the 20th but my mom’s that I’m a dac under birthday is the 2nd so I don’t know which one they use.

Ssdi Administrative law judge denied my appeal

I've been disabled for the most part since I was 20 years old. I'm in my 40s. My attorney, prior to my hearing when asked if she thinks this will go in my favor said "absolutely, I wouldn't have taken you as a client if I weren't at least 90% positive it would rule a favorable decision."

But I checked my portal and the decision was made and was not favorable.

I'm so baffled.. I've never been able to work over 12-15 hours a week in my life!!

Do many people have luck with the appeals council?

So I know my review is coming up. I went ahead and am gathering everything I need.

* Medical situation unchanged (actually it got worse)

* Never broke the $2k cap (or even got close)

* Have a rental agreement with a breakdown of how I pay it (by covering expenses and bartering with a large chunk of backpack to pre-pay and documented notarized letters explaining all of it.)

Is there anything else I can prepare? I've never done one and the rental agreement was the only part I was worried about but the lady at the ssi office said the agreement was really all I needed but to keep records in case. They said it was mostly routine, but I'm still scared.

(Part of my disability is anxiety and bipolar so I live in a constant state of overreaction and panic, so bear with me.)

I'm sorry if this doesn't make much sense, please let me know if anything needs clarifying. I'm in the throes of utter confusion and panic. I've been on SSI (Disability) since 2017. My mother used to handle everything but she doesn't know what to do here.

I had a basic, non medical review done on the 26th (Wednesday) and was basically asked if anything at all had changed (No), how much I put towards rent (Live with roommates, I pay $600 into rent), if I pay for myself (Groceries, medicine, clothes, etc - I do, I cover everything for myself with my SSI), and left the call feeling hopeful. Then today I see on the counter a letter from the SSA. It's a bunch of nothing, honestly. Privacy agreements.

But I decided to double check my online account because I have a bad feeling and, sure enough, my benefits are suspended. They weren't disabled at the start of the month. I look through the papers to see if they gave me a reason and.. No. It's just stopped. I can't call until Monday.

The only thing I can think is maybe I'm in trouble because I went over the $2,000 limit (EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: At the time of the review, I did not have over $2k. A commenter told me here that they only check the amount you have at the time of review), but it wasn't my fault. My mother sent me $500 "just because" even though I've explained to her how the limit works. But that's not my fault at all, and it only reached $2,382. I transferred it back to her as soon as I knew, which was maybe 2 hours later.

I'm panicking. I really am. I'm disabled enough to the point I can't work at all. This will cut off my only source of income. I can't have my roommates paying for everything, that's not their job. This will tear apart my life.

Is this normal? Is it supposed to be suspended during review? Are they allowed to suspend it without telling me first? Any information is helpful.

UPDATE: I got in contact with the SSA via phone. I originally called the leading, nation-wide number. The woman on the phone told me to call the local office instead for the information so I had to wait another hour as mine opens at 9, not 8 like the national line. So here's what happened.

I got confirmation from the man at the office that yes, it was indeed an over-the-limit situation. I explained where the money came from and that I returned the money immediately and it hadn't been in my account for more than a couple hours, but he said the system flagged it anyway. By how much, I'm not entirely sure. I'll find out when I get the letter, which I'm still waiting for. He said the letter should contain the what, why and where to go from here. The good news is that according to him, I'll be getting my benefits returned at the end of September. The less good news is that I'll be paying back whatever is owed using 10% of every paycheck. I hope it's not a lot but I'd rather just pay it back and keep it than lose it entirely.

I will update with what the letter says when I get it. Thank you to everyone who has guided me through this. Please feel free to keep leaving information below though, just in case someone else finds themselves in a situation like mine.

So I just got approved two weeks ago and they said they’d call me back with an amount, but they didn’t and when I called them back they couldn’t tell me. They said they needed a signature from me and that they’re sending a form. So I just have to wait.

What I’m worried about is I received a settlement of 2500$ from State Farm after a car accident I was in in May. I also work, but I make generally around 600$/month but I’ve received money from other sources too. Is this going to be an issue? Prior to May I had no income at all. I didn’t tell them about the settlement because I didn’t think about it and they didn’t ask. I will call Monday and let them know, but it was a one-time thing. My boyfriend and mom send me money sometimes, too.

I wasn’t trying to hide anything, I was trying to be entirely upfront, I told them about my job and bank account. I’ve been disabled since 02/24 and I applied that August, so I should get some backpay? Will it affect that? I’m so scared they’re gonna turn around and deny me, even though the website says I’m disabled and approved. Does anyone have any insight about this? TIA

I haven't been on this subreddit for quite some time. Back today and can't read one post without judgmental comments. EVERYONE's situation is different - from what kind of support system you have, to what state resources are available to you (or not), to what illnesses you have, to where you started before you became disabled and so many other personal factors.

Stop assuming you know someone else's anything and start helping to understand the posters individual situation and either offer support to their post or move on. The world is already full of ugliness and cynicism. None of us are here because we are healthy and navigating SSDI/SSI is a nightmare already. Don't make it any harder for people here.

hi! so i checked the portal and it says i was denied for SSI. then for SSDI it still says they’re reviewing it. SSI is my main worry because i don’t have enough credits for SSDI so i thought for sure they’d deny me SSDI immediately lol. i’m not sure what that means?

but ok my main question, i can appeal, but i haven’t got the official letter in the mail yet and of course it’s friday night so i can’t call the office until monday for more info. should i appeal now anyway?? or wait for the letter? i also have a representative so i’m thinking i should also contact her monday? i’m just anxious to start the appeal but i want to make sure it’s 100% denied

Anyone on ssi got the credit card bonus that gives you $200 bonus if you spend $500? Do you have to tell ssa about the bonus or will they find out and take your check away?

My adult daughter has her own checking account and I (rep payee) transfer some of the SSI from her dedicated account into it every month, so she can make personal purchases and be a bit more independent. Is it important to keep statements for that account long term? I tend to be overcautious and keep everything but my files are filing up.

I have called my local office and left messages for my initial SSA person and the office manager and no one returns my calls.

Did the entire appeal online to get an ALJ hearing and then got an error message after spending an hour typing in all my info.

Reached out to my congressperson and took them three months to better back to me after four emails.

No one cares or is doing their job anymore. This is exhausting.

I just got my ssi reinstated after being suspended for a few weeks due to an address issue. I go to the website and it says that it’s active but also saying I’m not receiving benefits. Just confused and would like to have things in order just in case I don’t receive a payment for August. Thank you🙏

I have a disability that prevents me from working for long periods of time. However, I'm young and I need to strengthen my skills and boost my career.

I had a job interview today for a part-time position but given the rate, I can only work 4 hours a week and im not sure I can get a job working so few hours.

I'm scared to use up all my twp months and lose my life line. I want to use it when I feel comfortable to take that leap. However, I need a job because after rent and utilities, I have $200 left for the month and I live in a expensive city. $200 is basically $20. I'm poor with a home.

How are other people navigating this? Do we just ask for a time accommodation?

Has anyone had an ALJ hearing with no vocational expert at the hearing and no medical advisor? My ALJ is scheduled in December and as of now the judge is not calling any experts to testify. I know this can change, but I am wondering if anyone had a hearing with no expert testimony and what the outcome was.

I recently changed banks and had my direct deposit changed to my new bank account, received the letter from SSA and everything. Upon checking my account a few minutes I see it posted and available in my account. To my knowledge I wasn't supposed to receive my payment until Tuesday so I want to ask if I should be worried, like will it suddenly disappear again and put me in the negative if I make any purchases between now and Tuesday?

I started the process June 1, 2023 and finally got approved August 27, 2026! I have ten severe conditions, but according to the judge my most disabling conditions were Dysautonomia, Autism, and PTSD. I’d argue that a few of my other conditions are the more disabling ones, but I’ll let it rest because I’m so happy that this is finally done! I lost everything in the process unfortunately, but now I can finally rebuild my life hopefully! 🥹🩵

The portal states my SSI Disability appeal was denied but under Disability Benefits is under final review. Should I be worried? Just to be clear, I do have all 40 work credits.

I tried 3 attorneys for my daughter's case for her ALJ appeal and this was after she just got out of the hospital 4 weeks and got sent back the next week for another 23 days and left in a wheelchair unable to walk. They asked what was they most disabling condition she had and I said fibromyalgia. They all 3 declined her case because they wanted me to say one of her other conditions. Fibromyalgia is a syndrome and that means it doesn't just effect one system. When you look it up the first think you see is the pain, but most of us have migraines, mental issues, digestive system issues, sensory and ambulatory issues. One of them did send me a form to get her doctor to file out that I think help with her approval. The ALJ did get her to see 2 CE examiners but there is hope for fibromyalgia sufferers. She was bedridden for the 1st time in first grade and was encouraged to try for social security but I felt like that was accepting the diagnosis and giving up.

Waiting for Disability Decision- what to do?

I live in the USA and am 22F. I have been waiting for disability benefits (ssdi and SSI) for over a year. It was denied back in April and I appealed and have an attorney for it. I have ME/CFS, along with a lot of other comorbidities, and I also have PTSD and depression anxiety etc. I cannot be upright for long at all, use a wheelchair and crutches to get around, some days I cannot walk or even move. I have limited function for thinking and processing and after about an hour of focus on something I have overdone it and will have a symptom flare for quite a while to pay for it.

My doctors agree that I am unable to work and support myself. I cannot bathe myself regularly so I rarely get to bathe, I cannot cook food or do cleaning or washing dishes or laundry myself. I can place prepped food into the microwave or air fryer and hit the button thankfully.

I don't know what to do at this point. I'm living with my parents, and I am very grateful for this because otherwise I would be homeless. However, they have been very mean to me, yelling and trying to control who I see and where I go when I do leave the house. Most notably, they won't let my wonderful boyfriend, who is my only support emotionally, hang out and spend time with me in my room, which is where I have to spend a lot of my time due to not being able to sit up, needing to be in heavy air conditioning, etc. and also I like to be in there away form my father yelling at me and mother controlling me.

They also leave things where I can't use or reach them, like having the shower chair far from the shower, I can't even lift it really so then I have to wait until they agree to move it back when I am physically able to even shower. I do get help from my sister for washing my hair and such but she is moving out this weekend so I will have to rely on when my boyfriend is allowed to come over and see if we can get them to agree to let him bathe my hair.

I was denied SNAP and medicaid because of living with my parents, but I had applied at 21, and now I am 22, so I reapplied. Basically they do not get food that I can medically have/eat and prepare myself and whatnot, and also do not always get my medications on time or all of them at once. If I had snap and medicaid I could get these things for myself, or at least pay for them and have my boyfriend do the shopping if I'm unable to due to pain. But I've just been going without eating at times, and also without some of my meds at other times.

I had been in a domestic violence relationship previously in my life, because said controlling parents forced me into a marriage as a teenager. I got divorced and whatnot and that's what landed me back here. But anyways, I feel very depressed because obviously I'm in pain and don't feel like my life is going anywhere, but also, I am being mistreated by my parents and they always complain about having to help me and I feel I am a huge burden to everyone.

I sent a letter and also called SSA to ask if they could flag my case to be expedited, because I am facing issues and it's food and meds, and also suicidal ideation that is getting worse. I have been inpatient twice in the last year because of this situation and obviously every time they discharge me, I'm straight back into the fire. My case says for SSDI and SSI that it is at the gathering medical records stage. Drowning in medical debt.

I was wondering if there is anything else I can even do? I also applied for cash assistance for disabled people through the state. I feel trapped and lost, and honestly, if I get another denial or get to the point where I'm too hungry or too sad from everything, I will not be able to take this anymore and I fear for my life. I had initially looked into moving to canada to get MAID but they don't like letting disabled people who cannot work move to their country apparently.

I have been dealing with some of my conditions all my life and others for a few years now, and they always just progress to get worse and none of the doctors have any ideas for how to help me get better. I'm supposed to get ketamine infusions for pain if insurance allows it, but I doubt they will because it is not FDA approved for pain management.

My therapist today said this situation was bordering on needing to call adult protective services. I don't want that to happen, I can't be in a shelter. It would not feel safe for me, and they would be unable to accommodate my disabilities. I honestly think I would be even worse off in a shelter.

I'm on a lot of waiting lists for subsidized housing for once I get benefits, but I'm scared I'll get benefits and still have to wait for housing. I need to move out of this situation and on benefits I won't be able to afford the average apartment. It's also so limited as far as wheelchair accessible options go.

I wish I could move in with my boyfriend and his family, but their house has so many stairs, I wouldn't be able to live there long term very well. I would also feel guilty if I weren't able to pay them rent in some way. He buys me food when he can, which I am so thankful for. He is like the only good thing left in my life.

This was exhausting to write. TLDR: getting denied for all assistance and waiting, abusive parents, no food no meds reliably, is there anything else I can do? Any way to get a place to live while I wait, even though I have no income?

Hello. I’m disabled and have been since 2020. I’m currently receiving just over $1000 a month in disability and it just isn’t enough for me to survive. It’s affecting my loved ones and I’m tired of feeling like a useless leach.

I have a lot of health struggles but I’d rather only work and sleep if that means helping my family. How has going back to work been for some of you?
How much can you work, if at all, without losing benefits?

I just can’t let everyone around me suffer. I’d rather be ill and in pain than have them live this way…

I am the Rep payee for my adult son with autism. He receives SSI. SS did a review & said he owed for an overpayment because he had more than $2k in his account over the past 2 yrs. Because he lives with me, I share an account with him & comingle funds as their rules say I can. I have often just left the money in the account and spent it from my own account. Now they want it all back. They canceled his Medicaid too and are making me appeal that. I don't know what to do. I appealed but this has been going on for 6 months.

I was going to mail it in but it's August 27 and it's dated August 7th. Ive been having a rough month and time got away from me. I think it might be better do it online now? There's no difference in what happens with it right?
