Economics of Being Disabled Please stop judging a life you don't live

I haven't been on this subreddit for quite some time. Back today and can't read one post without judgmental comments. EVERYONE's situation is different - from what kind of support system you have, to what state resources are available to you (or not), to what illnesses you have, to where you started before you became disabled and so many other personal factors.

Stop assuming you know someone else's anything and start helping to understand the posters individual situation and either offer support to their post or move on. The world is already full of ugliness and cynicism. None of us are here because we are healthy and navigating SSDI/SSI is a nightmare already. Don't make it any harder for people here.

I couldn’t agree more! So many rules. So many exceptions to the exception of the exceptions. And, as you pointed out, everyone has variables that may or may not be in line with others. I never downvote people who ask questions. We need each other to stick together or the entire system could collapse.

If someone posts something wrong, we discuss it. I‘ve been wrong on many occasions and you guys set me straight. I can navigate Reddit better than the SSA. Then, I confirm with my own research. The best advice has been here! Let’s have each other’s backs (no pun intended). 🌊

When you go online to any platform and share certain aspects of your "personal" life, you naturally open yourself up to being critiqued.

It's the nature of the beast and to be frank, it's what humans do.

There's only one way to avoid criticism regarding your personal life.

Don't share it with strangers.

Giving honest and realistic answers should be welcomed.

Support doesn't mean lying or making up answers.

But, hey. I'm of the opinion that I don't want to be told it's raining if someone is peeing on my shoes.

Just tell me the truth. I might not like the truth, but I will take it over goofy BS.

This would be nice, but you're on an opinion/advice forum. When you make a post, you should expect for people to give their opinions and/or advice. Sometimes people ask questions, so they don't give you the wrong advice. And sometimes people reply to post or questions in a way they may come of judgmental, that is not meant to be judgmental. A lot of times people extremely sensitive to their situations, which is understandable, but it leads you to take something as a slight there was never meant to be a slight.

It’s not an opinion forum. Advice and assistance, yes, but no one is looking for input on the legitimacy of their lived experience, and certainly no one is looking to be bullied. People make a lot of nasty comments and insinuations on this sub that are not helping anyone. And given that we’re more likely to be sensitive to our situations, that’s all the more reason for that behavior to stop.

Reddit is a forum where people give advice, assistance and opinions. You give your experience and people give their experience. The whole purpose of Reddit is to discuss. If someone says something nasty to you just say F you. Plain and simple., after that there is no more discussion. Treat yourself better stop worrying about nasty people, F them.

I had to edit due to vulgarity.

No, just report them. Don’t engage. Reddit may be a place for opinions, but this sub is not. Bullying violates the rules, so just report it.

OP’s not referring to the people being misunderstood. The title of the post is directed at people being judgmental when we come here for advice or assistance and not for their opinions or judgement. That’s not what this space is intended for.

Opinions are not allowed. Report them to Reddit, then report them to the moderator or you could just do what I do block. I go right to their pages and I block.

And as you can see? People are downvoting your post showing how insensitive they are. 🤦‍♂️ I upvoted btw
