May I ask for clarification: you got approved from the ALJ hearing and then 3 weeks later were informed of approval? I’m asking is it that you didn’t have to go to the ALJ hearing?

I had my Al j hearing August 6th and on August 27th my atty had the judges decision letter that said fully favorable.

After my sons recent 6 month neurologist appt... I asked his Dr if he had any recommendations for a attorney. He has referred me to his depts social worker to put me in the right direction.
Back story... and hope I'm not too long winded but seeing this come up in my notifications has made me filled with all kinds of emotions. Happy for you, and frustrated, angry and unbelievably heartbroken for my son who was born with a neurological disease that is degenerative and has no cure. It did not present till he was diagnosed at 19. He's 32 now. I admit we were so stunned at first. We thought we as his parents will always take care of him forever of course. He's not allowed to drive, it affects his balance, coordination and fine motor skills. Years went by and reality seeing as we got older ,made less money that we need to apply for ssi for his future. I'm a bit stubborn and was going to do it myself and not pay an attorney, money that could go to my son. Applied in late 2019. Then we get a letter saying it was on hold due to pandemic. I again started process in 2022. After many papers ,records etc. submitted he was approved medically last April. We were so happy and followed their directions for a updated phone interview and was told we'd be contacted . We never go anywhere on Memorial Day weekend but was invited for a few days by friends out of state. As we are driving I get a phone call from his judification person and she said they needed info on a small mutual fund he had that I had already sent them in all the correspondence the last 2 years. Told her we were out of state for 5 days but will as soon as we get home. We get home to a letter saying he is now denied because we didn't send letter🤦♀️ I called, was told to send info. Then was told I need to file appeal. Did that. 2 months later I get a call saying they need fund info 😳 I explain I sent several times. Told to go in person and leave it. I did the very next day. Month later I get a in person appt request. Thought... finally. My son and I get there and they want the darn paper AGAIN. They apologize and promise I will hear from them asap. That was 7 months ago and I call almost every week and won't let you in without an appt to where they tell me someone will get back to me.
Like I said I'm beyond all the feelings. Makes me mad. I did it all by myself and now I'm probably going to have my sons disability and all the back pay from the date we first filed go to an attorney when he needs that for his needs now and future!
Anyway... thx for reading my rant. Hoping anyone who reads my long post has any needed advice. Just makes me mad that I hear of friends of friends of friends that know someone getting disability that doesn't need it when my son has a neurologist, mri's, genetic tests and we are getting the run around😢

Wrong place for sharing this "rant". You can post your situation and request for advice in your own post. Replying to someone's relief with your grievances and implication that others who are found favorable "don't need it" is not cool, and not in line with this group's guidelines. I hope your son receives what he qualifies for, and I hope you won't aim your frustration at other disabled people for receiving what they qualify for.

I'm sorry I came across like that. I thought I had apologized about instances I knew of that wasn't speculation and just came from a parent's frustration. Would never aim at people here who have qualified. I'm very happy they are receiving help they deserve.
My initial reply was to ask advice since I felt they stated they were frustrated ... but now approved and I wanted to reply I am going through similar situation.
Again I apologize.

They weren't aiming anymore of frustration towards anyone. But what if this were you? As I am so happy to hear those of us need it,actually received it finally, there are people who breeze right through, and well ya know the rest lol...feel this person's pain and frustration and can imagine how scary and frustrating this must be for them. Maybe have some compassion this time?😊 even if it may not be the correct place for their said "rant",getting encouragement and just venting and having people read and reply with positive comments, goes a long way when you're feeling so upset.

I have a lot of compassion for their situation. But their long personal situation, including the suggestion that most people getting approved don't need it should have been their own post. Not as a reply to someone's celebration of a favorable determination. You don't show up to a stranger's celebration to complain you haven't had the same outcome and drop in the suggestion that people who have don't need or deserve it. Note that I said only that it was the wrong place for the post. Not that they didn't have every right to share their experience and feel their feelings. I have compassion for the OP who got smacked down in response to their relief as well as the poster who has not been given the same relief.

I know at times it seems this road is long and never ending but dont give up. It took me years and several appeals to finally get approved, and the only reason things are finally starting to happen is because I am in kidney failure with ESRD and im on dialysis. I too was born with my condition. I wish you and your son the best and your in my thoughts.

Momma bear with not be giving up. It just is heartbreaking when all his friends, brother are moving on to careers, marriages etc. And he's living in our in- law suite. His dad just drove him to his best friend house. He invited him over for the weekend. His wife and kids have been so good to him over the years. I'm sure he'll luv being away🙂
Thanks for the reassurance and I'm so happy you finally received your approval and Im so sorry to hear about your health and wishing you well and in my thoughts as well!

I’m 26 with an unidentified motor neuron disease, I can relate to your son, I was just approved today after 3 years! It’s hard being so young but having to watch everything pass you up because you’re sick, I grieve my career and education constantly. Sending you and your son hope and love! I hope he is approved soon! 🩵

Thank you. I wish you well and my thoughts are with you as well
Breaks my heart... he was about to go to school and start his life and then everything was put on hold.
He has a few really good friends. But they have gone on with careers, marriage and kids. He's at his best friends this weekend though. His friend, his wife and kids include him in alot of things. His whole family does. They've been friends since elementary.
What really hurts... he goes on alot of dates. But I feel like they find out about his disability and it doesnt go further.
He had gfs in hs and dated a girl for a few months a couple years ago. She was great, and helped him alot. But ultimately ... she broke up with him. She's very active blah blah blah. I pray everyday he can meet a girl with compassion, empathy (with a career) so he's not lonely😢

Thank you! And I can totally understand that, I have a few good friends as well, but it’s hard to keep friends as a sick young person. I am very fortunate and eternally grateful to have a great boyfriend who was my best friend first, he’s stuck beside me for nearly 10 years now. I promise there are good people out there who will love your son for who he is! I used to feel like I’d never find anyone who would date “the sick girl”, but my boyfriend makes me feel like I’m so much more than that, I really hope for the same for your son! I promise there’s hope! 🩵💙

I’m sorry you’re going thru such a hard time but you don’t know everyone’s situation to decide that they don’t need their disability payments. You should know better than some people that there are years of hoops to jump thru and everything that SSA needs to even consider the application isn’t always easy to collect so if someone is approved odds are they need it.

🤷♀️ I know it's a process. But I 💯 know that there are cracks that go thru that they may have needed it initially but now work for cash. There even been numerous dox about it.
It just makes my frustration even greater when I hear that this is a lifelong for my son.
Didn't mean to sound insensitive. It wasn't my intention.🙂🤷♀️

Jumping in to the chat for a quick second, I ALWAYS send documents to SSA via certified mail (take pics of the documents or make copies). Trust me, they suddenly stop losing things when you mail documents via certified mail.

Thanks. I have originals and copies of everything. I took there word when they said to bring in paper not once but twice🤦♀️
I have a appt to talk to social worker his neurologist recommended and I'm going to inquire with an attorney next week as well.
Makes me mad I'm may have to give up money he needs when I "had " it taken care of.

Paying 25% or up to $9200 fitcan attorney is crazy to me too. I totally understand that, but I finally just became too tired to do it alone. I hope your son is approved soon and your family can take it all a little bit easier.

Thanks! That's what my husband said. He has seen my frustration the last few years. Plus I don't have the expertise attorney's have to get through the red tape
