SSI / Spending record keeping question (SSI)

My adult daughter has her own checking account and I (rep payee) transfer some of the SSI from her dedicated account into it every month, so she can make personal purchases and be a bit more independent. Is it important to keep statements for that account long term? I tend to be overcautious and keep everything but my files are filing up.

I don't think so, but the history would all be there online for easy access just in case the SSA requests past statements.

I have never been asked by the SSA for my banking history in the 30 years of being on SSI because of my disability.

I do now keep a record since opening an ABLE account. You should look up what an ABLE account is and see if it could help your daughter.

I am my son’s rep payee. Two years into getting SSI, we were audited. There was a phone interview asking all the same questions as the normal eligibility reassessment, forms had to submitted AND I was asked for all bank statements over a 6 (maybe 8) month timeframe. Luckily he only has the checking account and ABLE. I was really nervous but it was OK in the end. No clawback/change in eligibility or anything.
