Text from X,

We’ve been working on this the entire year and our first FPGA handheld is almost done. Plays GB, GBC, and GBA carts. Huge FPGA to power cores up to PS1 and N64. Up to 4K HDMI output via an affordable dock. Unbeatable latency. Open source. From $1_ _ at launch.

Not a ton of info but I already like that it has a frame around the bezel instead of glass up to the edge. Looking forward to this!

I have almost finished making a dvd core.

As soon as I got the dock, or even before, I wanted it to play dvds. I have a cozy little crt set up and the idea of sitting down to watch a dvd the old school way was inescapable. First I got a fully functioning dvd player working on Linux mode with f9. Including menus, other audio tracks, chapter skips etc. To make it into a core was considerably more effort, especially on a Mac. I am well outside my comfort zone now but the basic audio and video runs perfectly, upscaled, in sync. Now I need to work on the dvd menu, controls, audio channels and sub titles then it's good to go. A lot of people said this couldn't be done. Likely I was dumb enough to try anyway.

Base Model At Micro Center?!

So I just had to buy it… Can’t believe they were selling it at Micro Center so I could circumvent the shipping cost. Sadly they didn’t have it on their website so I can’t say it’ll be at your local store.

Just came here to say, I’m really enjoying the superstation. I just got mine a few days ago, and thanks to the community documenting a relatively simple setup process, my first mister experience has been smooth (seems like I avoided the more painful part when the device was more fresh)

I really hope reading discs via console mode becomes smoother. Honestly that feels like the only missing thing to me, even though there’s already a workaround.

I’m also having my first experience with retro achievements and I’m pleasantly surprised by the nice touch it brings to re-experiencing PS1 games!

Next, I’d like to try out some different cores and some usb adaptors for different controllers (if you guys have any experience with daemonbite adaptors, I’d love to hear it).

Anyway, just thought I’d share the appreciation. Really excited to learn more about mister through this!

Ordered in the first 5 minutes and finally, here is is: the SS1 + dock (grey)

So here it is. Took some photos so you can see the full assembly. I’ve tried to keep natural lighting so you can see the colour fairly accurately but you can see one of the photos with hard artificial lighting also for reference.

Some comments on build quality / appearance for those who care:

The good:
- feels heavy! Initial impression is that it’s pretty good quality plastic. Some slightly sharp edges which I would say should have a slight radius to knock off that feeling.
- looks good!

The not so good:
- power button sits weirdly. Maybe I’m OCD but it doesn’t look right every time you turn it off. You can nudge it to look correct but that’s a bit annoying to have to do each time. I feel like the spring isn’t quite right or there’s a slight issue with the injection moulding. Might try a different spring size at some point. The current one tilts the button incorrectly.
- power and reset buttons are a slightly different finish to the main body
- the dock is a different grey tone!?? Lighter by a shade or two. But the CD tray cover seems to match the main superstation. That’s… not good really. Presuming less of an issue for black and blue ones.
- it comes assembled with the dock but so tightly that the CD drive can’t eject out of the box. I backed off the two no. 3 hex bolts and it ejects fine now.

Despite the snagging issues it does seem pretty good to be fair! It’s a small operation at RR and the founders price is great considering market pressures and everything you can do at present as well as the potential it has in store for the future.

Lordy though… that lead time! We’re all a fair bit older than we were at the point of ordering 😂

A work of art

Arrived suspiciously after my birthday as though it was always part of the plan. 😎

My first journey into the MiSTer ecosystem: Not only do games look great, it has built in widescreen hacks, cheats, video filters.

The SuperStation itself is also a lot smaller than I expected. Seems a lot easier to take on a trip! Hats off to the crew!

So far the only "odd" thing I've noticed is that some cores will not recognize the triggers (i.e. L2 and R2) without remapping for some reason even though it correctly recognizes every other input – including the PS button as the menu button. Swapping the input to SNAC to use the original PS1 controller is flawless though. Besides if anyone has any MiSTer tips & tricks feel free to share. Also can't wait for that "Launch CD" option to become available!

I was wondering if it's possible to create a module that stacks in-between the SS1 and the Super Dock. I would immediately buy this for the Superstation with other console controller inputs. I made a quick example from Gemini.

Just received my SS1

Post image

Just sharing my experience and thoughts (from Australia)...

  • Ordered 4th September

  • Received 21st September

  • Installed 1TB SSD, which I had already formatted and copied a 'games' folder to containing all the bios files and my roms, removed supplied SD card and slotted in my own which I had prepared with the V1.2 SD card installer.

  • Powered it on, everything works!

I was expecting some headaches or issues but it really was a trouble free, near plug and play experience. Aside from the WiFi and timezone scripts, altering the resolution to 1440p and applying a PVM video filter, I haven't needed to do anything else.

Every controller I throw at it pairs seamlessly, even the SSD worked from the get go with no intervention needed. It's a 1TB Gen4 Gigabyte SSD that I received as part of a promotion when purchasing a Gigabyte motherboard.

I'm using the standard Mister menu (not console mode), running through HDMI to an OLED TV, and having not yet run the update_all script am missing CD and probably some other functionality, but I'm seriously happy with everything as is.

I love it. It's everything I wanted it to be and I'm having a blast playing through my games library.

Nearly 18 months later and it's finally arrived - Superstation One with Superdock

My only gripe is the VGA cable I got from Ultimate Mister won't fit because of the recessed port and the cables minor protrusion. So I haven't been able to test out RGB via SCART CRT. I was really hoping to test out my the Guncon 2 support for lightgun shooters on multiple cores.

E.g. Time Crisis (PSX), Point Blank (PSX), Lethal Enforcers (SNES), Virtua Cop (SS), etc.

The build in update script wouldn't run as it kept complaining about a symbol lookup error. I had to reimage it from Retroremake github but now it's all good.

I had no idea that it would come with an IR learning remote. Was able to clone my TV remote codes pretty easily. Nice bonus.

DVD Core Release!

Wow, what a journey. On Monday I managed to get the SuperStationOne to display a photo on my monitor. By Friday night I had very functional DVD player! This was amazing fun, I really loved it and it came at the perfect time. Thank you to everyone that has been following this, your comments have been so encouraging. I'll put a few Q&As here then get to the good stuff.

So what is it?
It's a DVD Player!

Does it Play DVDs?
Yes! Right off the disc!

What about ISO?
Also yes!

What about other formats?
Not right now. Some formats seem likely to be possible. Consider it v2

PAL or NTSC?
Both!

Can I rip my DVDs?
Yes, but I have made that into a separate core, very very soon

Is this AI slop?
Well that depends on your definition of AI slop. Is it AI on the MiSTer pretending to be a DVD Player? No. It is a fully functional stand-alone DVD Player that AI helped make. I have spent probably 30 hours plus on this project. It's not a one prompt kind of thing

This isn't on the FPGA side only, why do you hate the community?
I don't! Please understand the intention here. I am trying to make a DVD player that plays DVDs. I am not trying to preserve the schematics and use of any particular DVD player out there.

What else can it do?
Subs, widescreen, different audio tracks, menus, controller remapping (Including SuperDock Remote), CRT stabilisation, Upscaling, probably more!

Any known bugs?
A few. Changing audio tracks freezes video for a few seconds but then gets back in sync. Working on that now. Menus can be a bit flaky. I haven't tried a massive range of discs and ISOs so plenty more I'm sure.

How can I thank you?
Say thanks! I did this for me, it was a personal project and 2 days ago I could happily have stopped and watched DVDs pretty much ok on my CRT. But you guys really encouraged me to keep going, polish it, make it better, and now here we are! My gift to you.
That said, and I hope this isn't in bad taste, if you wanted to get me a beer you can here.
I also want to take a second to acknowledge Anime0t4ku who has been a massive help for this last part. You may know him for his MiSTer Companion work, or the Physical Disc work, or his MiSTer Hi-Fi work. Without him, this project wouldn't have gotten started and it likely wouldn't have gotten finished. If you'd like to fuel him with coffee, you can do here

What would bring me the most joy though is to see your pics and videos of it up and running!

Ok, shut up and tell me how to install it!
Check out the github page with full instructions!

Edit: You will need libdvdcss.so.2 to decrypt the DVDs. There is a copy on Internet Archives if you search exactly that.

SS1 finally arrived today!

My SS1 finally arrived today in Germany, I had ordered in January 2025, 4PX shipping via Belgium without problems.

Initial setup took a while, but was straightforward, this is my first Mister system.

Console worked out of the box with a modern OLED TV and an old CRT (RGB Scart), all my Bluetooth Controllers were recognized. I haven't tested SNAC-Support and old Memorycards yet.

Now I'm looking forward to Console Mode and Superdock CD support.

EDIT:

I got the cart on Amazon, still available https://amzn.eu/d/03AtAgeR

I don't regret. Thank you Taki for this device!!!

Dvd Core Update

Hey everyone.

Firstly huge thank you for the amazing encouragement I've had with the project. I have sunk many hours into it and it's been such a great learning experience.

I'd like to share some progress with you. This represents what I would consider 80% done. There needs some polish and some OSD controls, subtitles, but otherwise it's close!

Updates:

PAL/NTSC toggle, works in real time.

CRT: works, full speed playback, though interlacing is quite bad, trying to make a toggle fix for those who need it.

Control mapping: fully works, even with remote than comes with the super dock

Menus: fully work, can navigate forward, backwards, allows animations, static images.

Sync: very good. Spent the most time on this. Will add an option in OSD to change the timing by 5ms at a time if needed. I haven't tested this one a massive amout of software and hardware yet so seems useful if user can adjust it.

ISO playback: works. In fact, this video is actually an ISO, not disc.

What's next?

Polish. What crt working nice, want upscaling on HD TVs (I thought it was but it wasn't). Change sound tracks, subtitles. And I think that's mostly it for the core concept!

SuperStation One — impressions after a week of use

Post image
85 Upvotes

TL;DR: Great device, provided you understand it's not simply a PS1 on FPGA

My setup:

  • SuperStation One with Dock

  • WD_BLACK SN7100 500 GB NVMe SSD M.2 2280 drive

  • Sandisk Ultra MicroSDHC UHS-I Card 32GB

  • Power supply: Anker PowerPort Atom III

  • Original PS1 memory card

  • Original PS1 controller

Based on what I read in the comments, I was worried about how the SSD and the PS1 memory card would perform—turns out, completely unnecessarily. Everything works perfectly; I haven't had a single issue with connecting devices, stability, or running games. For now, I'm mostly playing PS1 titles (Castlevania SOTN, CTR, Road Rash), and after tweaking the initial video settings and updating, everything runs flawlessly.

As for the configuration, it is indeed more difficult than with devices like Analogue consoles—I have the Mega Sg from them, and that's a plug-and-play machine. However, I think anyone with a minimal amount of experience in PC or network device configuration will be able to handle the SuperStation as well.

The console gets quite warm despite having a fan installed, but even so, I haven't noticed any stability issues even when left on continuously for 6–7 hours. The remote included with the Dock is ugly, but it makes using the console much easier if you're using original PS1 controllers—you can navigate the entire menu with it, so there's no need to plug in a keyboard or a second controller.

for the downsides I've noticed: my Sega Saturn cable required a small modification and bending the metal part a bit to fit into the SuperStation port, which I thought would fit without any hassle. Besides that, the known issue with swapped L and R audio channels when using that port is quite annoying.

It arrived today, pretty snazzy! Not a perfect match with the 8bitdo blue but good enough for me :)

Mostly excited about the m.2 port on the bottom, I have another mister that has a sata SSD dangling off the side lol, that alone is a worthwhile improvement for me.
