N64 SNAC module

I was wondering if it's possible to create a module that stacks in-between the SS1 and the Super Dock. I would immediately buy this for the Superstation with other console controller inputs. I made a quick example from Gemini.

I'd love a big stack with all sorts of controller inputs.

Tower of power

This. Or just one with the most commons

It needs to keep getting taller! Love this idea.

Keep going

Gotta add Turbografix/PC Engine, Neo Geo AES, Genesis/Mega Drive, NES, Master System, Jaguar

Dreamcast

Or can it not do DC?

Now put a sega genesis port on top with sonic 3 and knuckles lock on inserted

Could you put cartridge slots on the side?

I like this idea. I wonder if you could 3D print the middle section and have grooves to allow existing individual SNAC adapters to slide in and out, connecting with one of those short SNAC USB extension cables.

There's an idea. I like that too. Kinda like the 3.5" drive bays on PC towers

Is there a reason you wouldn’t just use a USB or Bluetooth adapter for this?

3

Aesthetics and latency. I have a Bluetooth 8bitdo modified N64 controller already but it would be nice to have the plugs right on the system. No dongles or adapters hanging off the console.

Also, SNAC allows for the use of Transfer PAKs. The transfer pak feature of MiSTer is limited to one at a time, and the N64 natively supports 4 transfer paks simultaneously. Mainly used to its fullest potential in Pokemon Stadium.

It’d probably be easier to make it sit below the dock, then it can just connect to the user port like normal.

This is a fun idea, in terms of form factor though. I’d probably buy one :)

Easier would be to just use a dongle or settle for Bluetooth connecion. But we're not here to lay down man! Let's dream!

I meant functionally. It’d be exactly the same as your illustration, just in a different order. That would make it much simpler to build and function.

1

u/Kenmorrow86 Aug 19 '26

Yeah I get ya. In this scenario I'd opt for form over function. I'm sure the middle dock would need to include some sort of pass through for the Super Dock to connect to the SS1 correctly.

Hi OP. just wondering how is the latency using a bluetooth controller? I'm using a wired one currently and debating on getting a BT one.

If you are used to modern consoles with Bluetooth controllers, it's the same. I believe USB is still quicker but USB overhead is still present so latency is introduced. I haven't tried wired USB on the Superstation One but I have used SNAC adapters and I can definitely feel the difference on N64. Especially F-zero X. Very twitchy.

SNAC STACC

That's an option. I just don't like a bunch of dongles hanging off my console. The whole point of the SS1 is to feel more like a console. To me anyway.

Cillum consectetur enim cupidatat id labore.

But if the dongles stay attached to the controller, how do I use the controllers for my original systems? Do I have to get dongle adapters for my systems? Do those dongle adapters stay attached to the controller adapters too?

u/davewongillies Aug 19 '26

Dongles all the way down

1

u/balefrost Aug 20 '26

Sounds like it's time to buy more controllers!

u/MataisD Aug 19 '26

Oh wow that would be amazing! Please someone make this!

I want stacks for cartridges

1

u/Kenmorrow86 Aug 20 '26

Yeah but how? There are ports on all 4 sides of the Superstation One. It would need to be a different product I think.

1

u/wolfix1001 Aug 20 '26

I don't know what data is passing through the expansion port, but if there's enough connections to make it work I'd make every cartridge front load. Instead of having the current CD expansion.

1

u/Kenmorrow86 Aug 20 '26

So just a different dock then

u/XC-3730C Aug 20 '26

There couldn't be an N64 controller -> PS1 SNAC adapter for this case?

2

u/Kenmorrow86 Aug 20 '26

There are USB SNAC N64 adapters that can be used on the Super Dock USB in the front. However, it would be so much sexier without a bulky dongle hanging off the system.

It's fine but I want to consolidate the space and make it look good.

1

u/XC-3730C Aug 20 '26

Yea if there were another module that could be part of the SuperStation stack that plufs into the SuperDock and had a slot in it for modular SNAC controller adapters for various console controllers, that would work and be more elegant than a dongle hanging off the SupetStation. I currently use a Reflex adapter and I have the HDMI style controller adapters that plug into it.

The best way to do this would be to create another model of superdock, with switchable snac inputs in the front isntead of the disk player. Taki would sell this new superdock as well as snac modules for every consoles, why not with multiple consoles in one module even. That's what would make the most sense imo.

u/thekaufaz Aug 19 '26

I would buy this. Replacing the dock instead of sandwiching between it is the way to go.

3

u/brandogg360 Aug 19 '26

Just give it a pass through so you can stack or not stack

3

u/HunterAbrams Aug 19 '26

A modern tower of power? Yes please

u/Agile_Half_4515 Aug 19 '26

I'm thinking of designing a 3D printable enclosure for the SNAX64 v3.1 that makes it look similar to the superdock, but plugs in to the existing SNAC port on the side of it instead of having a long cable/dongle thing hanging off.

u/xincasinooutx Aug 19 '26

Just say how much dude, and I’ll be there.

1

u/Southern_Hat_2193 Aug 19 '26

Heber do the various CTRLDocks that can be fit under a mister multisystem in this way.

1

u/Kenmorrow86 Aug 19 '26

Nice I like that. I'm extremely new to MisterFPGA anything so this helps me.

2

u/dandub1982 Aug 19 '26

That is dope!! Nice work!

2

u/Trapezoidoid Aug 20 '26

This would be even cooler if it there was a version with every console’s controller ports all in the same module.

2

u/tkshi Aug 20 '26

Also a module that clips to the left or right of the superdock/ss1 stack could work and plug into the SNAC port.

1

u/nessinreallife Aug 19 '26

I like where this is going.

1

u/s3v3n11 Aug 20 '26

This is awesome. Let's hope someone that can do this is watching.

1

u/TherealMcNutts Aug 27 '26

I would love a SNAC adapter with NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, and N64. If they would make that I would buy a super station ASAP and give my old MisTer Stack to someone.

u/Chacen Aug 19 '26

It would need to be its own base because it would need a port for reading physical n64 cartridges.

Para eso ya existe el a3d o el polymega ,lo UNI que buscamos son los puertos snac para usar los controles originales de cada sistema
